obailala: A very simple explanation, but there are 3 reasons why this wouldn't be understood by most people:
1. Sentiments: Some people hate the president so much that the emotions of hate has drowned their ability to reason, discern or be objective.
2. Hunger: Hunger has reset the brains of plenty people that they have lost the ability to reason, discern or be objective. With their brains reset, they now fall victims of the mental manipulations of people within category 1 above.
3. Ignorance: A lot of people (both educated and uneducated) are just ignorant and expecting them to discern might just be a chasing of the wind. Most people fall within this category, especially the multitude of illiterate or semi-literate compatriots we have on the streets. Imagine trying to explain the link between crude prices and the cost of bread to the okadaman or the market woman on the streets? It would most likely be a wasted effort especially with 'hunger' being in the picture. You cant really blame these set of people, especially the uneducated ones. But the unfortunate part is that some in this category are well educated; a friend of mine who even studied for his masters in the UK once asked me how the bombing of pipelines would affect him seeing that he isnt working in the oil industry and doesnt have oil wells. Such is the kind of reasoning we get from even highly educated ones. It is usually You've said it all. I just watch them and identify the categories they fall under. |

amInigerian: luvinhubby It is not about if our income has gone down by 60% or not. It is about if he is able to do anything about it.
The job description involved doing something about it (with results). Anyone who cannot handle the demands of a job, should honourably quit. It is not do or die. In the interest of the rest of the country, he should resign. Some people will mock but it will not matter. Anyone who can do the job should take over.
I did not vote Buhari but would have voted Ibrahim Shekarau. He was a faaaaar better candidate. Buhari is both bad for the north and bad for Nigeria. He is making it look as if this is what northern leadership can produce. He should resign if he cannot imbibe the right counsel from the right minds to salvage the situation. Being realistic, how easy do you expect running a nation of 180 million people on a reduced income by 60%? Okonjo-Iweala, Sanusi Lamido and Tinubu warned of hard times ahead but I don't think many people were listening. Even if we voted in Obama, we would still be here till we find an alternate source of foreign exchange. Exportation and industrialization is our only way out and that doesn't happen in a few months as people expect. |

Eluwilussit: You don't get it. Why is pmb looking for the same product that is no longer attractive in the North, instead of diversifying more into agriculture and some solid minerals that are readily available in the North? The way out of every recession is usually to pump cash into the economy and not to strangle it with austere policies. Make the economy bouyant and create economic activities and you will see people come to invest.
98% of current policies are anti-growth, economically. Even with crude oil prices and our production at record low, it's still our highest source of revenue. The money realized can be pumped into other sectors to develop them. |

Stop this rubbish talk. It's takes years and billions of dollars to maximize their full potentials in order to replace the revenue lost from oil production. Let the reality of the Nigerian situation sink in and go get ready for what more is to come...... rather than complaining. Nobody elected will perform magic without funds. |

Justcash: Scarcity drives up prices. High unemployment rate combined with high prices increases hunger and poverty. The solution is to use government expenditure to stimulate investment in the private sector with an expectation that it will facilitate domestic consumption and make the market more attractive for more influx of private investments. This will naturally create capitalist competition and naturally drive down prices.
You don't stall importation and increase prices in the face of high unemployment rate and low investment rate. You'll simply drive your country or business into an abyss. Contrary to what people are thinking, Buhari is hoping on God to answer the prayers of the pilgrims that he subsidized Forex for.
By the way, if this government continues the way it is going, you will go to the market one day and you will not find tiles to buy either because they will be too expensive or you just won't have the money to buy them. Until we diversify our sources of revenue to drive our economy and promote local manufacturing, there is no magician that can improve the situation overnight......... and also bear in mind that this diversification we talk about doesn't happen suddenly....... it's a process so Nigerians should get ready to face reality that there's no more free oil money to subsidize the economy any longer. The "Made in Nigeria" tiles have forced the prices down btw. |

luvinhubby: Have you also considered that volume of cargo import into Nigeria dropped by 50% in our ports, so is buying up the dollars that drove demand price up by 100%? Scarcity drives up prices. Import is low because there is little amount of dollars to fund our import based lifestyle where we import everything. Prior to the mopping up of the dollar from the system, CBN had approximately $600 million left in its coffers......... at the rate we were going, there won't be any left by now. Smart people are already adapting. I used to buy Spanish, chinese, Dubai tiles in the past, I go to the markets now and find out there's a sudden influx of made in Nigeria tiles. If they had sat around blaming Buhari, they won't be where they are now. |

Politics › Re: Distribution Of Capital Project In The 2016 Budget by ba7man(m): 1:48pm On Aug 30, 2016 |
PASCHAL28: I saw this post in Build up Nigeria with this statement. Some were thanking channels televison. The distribution of capital projects in the 2016 budget mirrors President Muhammadu Buhari's electoral victory of 2015. I actually thought he was joking about the 97%-5%, but hey, you can't argue with facts. Thank you Channels Television for this expose, but i disagree with these statements. there is no fact in what is presented here. i have seen this post during budget presentation before. you do not need to blame buhari here. i have said it time without number, our senators from south east needed to be recalled. they do not know what they want there to do. they are frustrating this government not to make in road to south east. i have evidences. for example,Buhari included 2 Niger bridge in 2016 budget. he included enugu-onitsha road,enugu-port harcourt road. but do you know that our senators were there, the budget provisions for these projects were slashed and some even removed, none of them uttered a word. if not that buhari insisted that his original budget be returned. these figures you see here will be very low. also, on the issue of amount, we have 5 states to compare others with 6 states. this year,we have a better share to compare what was given to us in 2013,2014,2015 and 2016 budget. i am not defending buhari. i am not his spokesman. but as a player in this field,i know what i am saying. In 2013, bayelsa state has only 8 Local Govts. do you know how much they got. what was given to bayelsa state as a state is more than what was given to south east as a zone. Also, you have to look at the projects the govt wants to execute. in the south east, we have 2nd Niger bridge,enugu-port harcourt road,enugu-onitsha road,nnewi-okigwe road,aba-itua-calabar road and the completion of dualization of owerri-port harcourt road. these are the projects they have for us in 2016 budget. most of these zones you see,it is only south east that has no rail project. the north central you see is the middle belt and they central to all parts of nigeria.most of the roads there needed to be completed so that people travelling to other parts of nigeria will have access to good roads and that is where saraki comes from. it is not buhari zone. and most of these projects were not new projects. what these government wanted to do is put in money and complete them before moving into new projects. download the budget from budget office website and see. look at that Kaduna-abuja railproject. it was not built by Buhari. but he made sure it is completed and put to use. look at enugu-onitsha road, they have done 30% work there. buhari voted 5billion for it to be completed. look at 2nd Niger bridge, there was no money for the project, but buhari voted 13 billion for it. Also did north central gave buahri his highest vote in 2015 election, the answer is no. it is northwest and north east. even what buhari got in south east is more than south south. so there is no basis for this article. my people are not well informed. What we want as a group is that let the ones appropriated be completed and new ones set up. also in considering new projects, we want Mr President to look at the possibilities of giving us railway from aba-onitsha and from onitsha to abakiliki. Thank you all Crap. There are northern states that are almost as big as the whole Southeast . Even Oyo State is as big as 3 Southeast states combined. Bigotry on tap destroys analytical thinking. |
