Benin was attacked because they refused to play ball with the White folks.

The Kiriji wars were largely slave raids of the hinterlands using guns and cannon gifts from the White men.

The Abeokuta war was for control of the direct slave trade access to Badagry from the hinterlands.

Black folks did the dirty job of raiding slaves, sell and exchanging them for more guns, alcohol, mirrors and such..... many got rich off the slave trade.
