Science/TechnologyRe: Ajaokuta Steel: Time To Break The Deadly Conspiracy Surrounding by babamajor: 5:10pm On Feb 01, 2016
God wil realy bless u for ur efforts on how to move the nation forward by bringing ajaokuta back to life but dont be surprised if noting tangible comes out of it.
Nigeria is a terrible country that u wil be surprised some people wil be waiting for them to be bribed befor somthing can be done about it.
Talkin frm experience there was a time i was to execute a project in kwara state during sakari era, after d governor has aproved d project of just 2.4million on getin to the ministry we are told that som people has to take frm d money right frm d comisioner for agric who alredy took 600k frm d money to chief accountant nd so on at d end of d day they told us that money left for d project was 1.2million, i av no option than to just quit nd let go of d project.
So this is how things are so bad in naija.

AgricultureRe: Fish Farming Or Poultry Farming. by babamajor: 4:57pm On Jan 25, 2016
He its a good thing that u are tryin to established ursef rather waitin for jobs in an economy where the only thing we rely on is oil.
I read all d sugestions offered to u on which is d best of of the two by u neva mentioned in ur post if u av acquired any form of trainin on both or any of the two.
If u av not done dat then pls dont just waste ur money, beta get trainin befo u plan to do anything but if alredy av hav an idea, then wit ur 100k my advise is choose catfish.
Let me tel u why, one i belived dat 100k is all u av nd of u choose poultry like u say u want to sell eggs, if u buy day old chicks it means u wil wait d next 16 to 18 weeks befo they start layin nd if u buy point of cage at 10 weeks, it means u cant buy means nd lets assume u buy 40 at 800each dats 40k nd 6 more weeks befo some start to lay at d ration of 200 to 1bag of feed per day means like 22kg per day den multiply dat by 42days den all ur 100k is almost finish cus dont foget medications nd recurrent expenditures light light mimimum 6years in d night so dat they can eat cus if they cant eat in d night u prolong their day of maturity.
While point of lay is almost same wahala wit wat i just highlighted in point of cage but stil u wil av few birds nd d eat they wil be consuming after sellin d eggs cus u hav few birds mit make d profit so little.
Rearing fish is less streesful cus u can start wit wat we cal VERTUAL POND, dat means built wit blanks nd carpet so dat d carpet wil retain d water. That wil be so cheap less than 10k wil do dat nd if u buy like 100 juveline dats 2weeks old so can start wit dat but source of water very very important.
Dont buy more than 100 cus u mit tink u av money by d the time u start feeding dem at 2% of their body weight so wil kno u dont av much but u u are lucky to get good species as juveline den in 90days u can sell all nd reinvest ur money again.
Which u best of luck in which eva u choose out of d two.

Good day all, Am a fresh graduate (waiting for service) . Please have considered starting my own business thanks to nairaland. The dilemma now is I don't know which to choose though have read a lot online but am not convinced yet.
I have a half plot of land around that mowe/ibafo area, Ogun State which I can make use of (family own though). Please any experienced farmer's advice in house is highly welcomed. I should be able to start with 100 thousand naira. The pros and cons of both, Thanks.[/quote]

AgricultureRe: My Step By Step Journey Into Poultry Business ( Pics) by babamajor: 10:19pm On Jan 24, 2016
My brother am happy to read frm somone like u who is intrested in agriculture nd tryin to start somtin frm d scratch.
Its a good step but if i wil advise u raisin 20 layers is not d way to start cus at d end of d day because they are few they wil eat more feeds than the amount u wil sell d eggs.
U shuld av started by raisin broilers wen festive period is comin like 12weeks befo cus they grow faster nd u wil make more profit which can be turn round quickly.
Raisin layers frm chicks wil take like 16weeks befo they start to lay nd u continue to feed them even if they dont start at that 16weeks.
So choice d easiest nd easy to sell.
Buy like 10 or 20 broilers nd start once they are 8weeks inform people in ur area that u av chickens to sell during d comin festival so in that case they wil be ready for u nd if u are d trusted one some dont mind givin u some money befo den so as to make it easier for them too.
Anyway this was how i started like 15years ago.

[REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START CHICKEN
tosongolabeaty:
5 REASONS WHY YOU SHOULD START CHICKEN POULTRY FARMING THIS YEAR ! Why Choose Poultry Farming?
One of the reasons behind the dramatic rise of poultry farming in Nigeria is the non-dependence on educational background. Every citizen can practice the occupation, irrespective of his or her educational status.
The profession can also be pursued with limited capital and resources, but huge return on investment is assured, if you are meticulous and diligent in how you set up and run your operations.
Another reason for the rising success of this field is the growing rate of chickens. A chicken becomes fully-developed and matures quite faster. For instance, a goat takes a time span of 2-3 years to mature completely, but within 28 weeks from birth, a chicken can reach a fit state and size that it can be sold at market.
Let’s take a deep look into the benefits of poultry farming in Nigeria
1. Reproduction Rate of Chickens: Business in Poultry Farming in Nigeria never leaves you bare handed because you never run out of stock. An average chicken hatches eggs almost every day and four times in a week. Some breed of chickens can produce around 325 eggs a year. By this account, your chickens will produce one egg a day that you can sell every day of the year. leaving out some dry days. If these figures are anything to go by, a chicken can give birth to another chicken twice in three days. Talking bigger, if you breed 500 layers, they will reproduce an astounding 12,000 chickens within a time gap of just 40 days.
2. Chickens Mature Faster: As discussed earlier, a baby chick becomes a full-grown, egg-bearing chicken in a jaw-dropping 28 weeks. This means a pullet is ready to be sold in market as a full-feathered chicken in just seven months. Taking into account such a fast-development process, a farmer can reap returns on investment within 34 weeks of the farm being in operation.
3. Large Markets: The demand for chicken never dies. In fact, it is always there and increasing. In Nigeria, a chest of smaller eggs is purchased for N500-N550, while the bigger ones demand an asking price of around N600-N650. A crate contains 30 eggs. Therefore, you will be receiving approximately N300,000 if you have 500 healthy chickens.
4. High Value, Good Price: Without a doubt! Raising your own flock of chicken will make you realize how lucrative poultry farming is in Nigeria. A customer in Nigeria can easily shell out N2000 – N2500 for a fertile layers chicken. Multiply the amount with the cost if you have 12000 layers in your farm. Now do you see how lucrative poultry farming is in Nigeria?
An old layer chicken in Nigeria costs around N1000 to N1200. If you had 500 old layers, you can make up to N600,000 residual income. Then use this money to reinvest to buy a new younger and more fertile flock of layers chicken. Every 12 to 24 months you can continue this cycle for continued success.
A 7-week broiler sells for N100.00 to N1200.00. A broiler aged 12 weeks and above will sell for N3000 to N4000.
4. A Rich Source of Protein: Poultry products are a tremendous source of protein, and a key nutrient for a healthy mind and body. Protein is essential for body functioning, energy and muscular development. Also, poultry products are delicious, great in taste and can be used in a range of Nigeria, African and worldwide dishes. For these reasons alone, it is safe to say that the demand for poultry products will never diminish.
For me, poultry farming is the best bet if your considering entering the lucrative world of agriculture. Do you agree with the points that I’ve made in this post? Please share your thoughts and any experience you have had with poultry farming(thanks for reading and your comment #prophet_TOSIN_olabode)

Natural disaster can occure at anytime nd u must av somtin to fall back on to quickly rectify the problem. This is not to discourage u but to prepare ur mind for d future bcus i av over 15years expirence in d business of poultry nd dont let profit be d main reason while u are goin into d business but rada intrest, bcus profit mit not come as expected as u tink but wit zeal nd determinations u wil be successful in d business.

There is no better time than now, its even better wen u dont have big capital cus the little money u wil invest now is not somtin that can ruin ur life, so if u start small u wil learn how to fall nd rise quickly.
If its just 10 or 20 broilerz u can start wit start now.
If space is d problm look for used tires nd start wit 20 to 50 snails cus one its chesper to raise nd expensive to buy so u wil make so much profit frm raising them nd guess wat u dont spend much to feed them cus they eat anytin vegetables whic u dont even av to buy pawpaw leaves nd left over foods but u must be careful wit dat cus too much salt in the food can kill them.
They eat in a night only so u av time to do other thingd so jus come in evenin to giv them food.

Who say you have to spend fortune to have a successful breeding operations. Here are few shot from my 3bedroom apartment. I use just one of the room aside my farm as experiment and see what I have.

I did this to complement 'robonski' article on the need for grow-out farmers to own their own hatchery. I set out to design a easy to construct and easy to manage sit-at-home wooden vat for our breeding pleasure

Whatever your capacity there is always a design for you: Water Recyclelatory System, Plastics flow-through, wooden, concrete ponds etc. We solve all your breeding related problems.

Our fish industry must survive against all odds. That's our determination and our aim @ solving our problems.

Woodshavin is d only tin acceptable cus d birds are still very young nd can't see well, if u use saw dust they Wil be eatin d saw dust thinkin it's food nd it can cause damages to the birds health, but woodshavin is biger nd it Wil be difficult for them to swallow, thereby reducing d problem u can encounter befor they recognize food.

CareerRe: About Relocating To Nigeria From The United States by babamajor: 7:02pm On Jun 16, 2015
First am not too sure if this news is genuine or not, but if its real then u must not make d mistake, one am a citizen of America too but can't understand wat u mean by monkey they work baboons they chop. Fine America is designed in such a way that they want u to spend every money that u make back into d economy nd that is y their economy is very strong, bcus u Wil av little money to save. But govt giv tax returns at d beginning of every year, so if u are working nd paying ur taxes, I beliv wit that u can start doing something in naija, but since u said u are a student nd if u are in debt of student loan it's Wil be difficult for u to av money except wen u paid off ur student loan. If u don't av a debt hanging on ur neck I see no reason to u Wil be desperate to go naija. Go home is good even if it's to go nd work but u must av a plan b, incase thing don't go as expected. Let me now use myself as an example, I intend coming back home finally in 5years time to come and establish a farm business, but now am putting up properties so as to av a stable income wen I come home nd not be desperate to depend on d farm too soon. I intend building 4 houses wit hop that collectively I should be making like 2million naira as rent on all of them per year, so wit that I don't av to be afraid of settling down in naija. Am also a Lagos nd ibadan person so I choose ibadan nd d first house in under construction now cus lands are still cheap in ibadan nd rent has started coming up there too. So.try nd invest first in naija, be for u relocate even if u decides to follow ur career, it's not a crime if u are making money by d side.

PoliticsRe: Unemployed, Poor Nigerians To Get N5000 Monthly – FG by babamajor: 4:06am On Jun 15, 2015
There is no big deal in giving d unemployed 5000 per person a month. All d government need is to make sure that all those who are employed nd. Companies paid their taxes. America has 57million people on food stamps, nd each get $200 a month. Not a dime is frm d government pockets rather it's we that are working that is feeding them.e.g I paid $800 a Mont as tax, it means I alone is feeding 4 people a Mont. D advantage of this on d economy is that since d money is for feeding, it means more people Wil go into food business cus people av money to spend nd this Wil allow govt to make more money by coletin taxes frm d food vendors , farmers nd transporter nd d middle men so d economy Wil be growing.

D best options in this case one let a lawyer be involved nd he shuld be giving six months notice to quit, but how that plays out depend on u, tel him at d end of his tenancy u Wil giv him money for 3monts rent that he is paying now to move out, but if he refuse d money, den u av to meet d New landlord nd reach a compromise wit him to take d 3months pay frm u nd he too shuld bear extra 3 months rent so that d guy Wil av d maximum time limit allowed by d law. I had a similar experience too wit my ibo tenant too in Lagos nd I gav him six months to leave nd he left on d last day. He was there for four years nd I d not increase d rent for d time he was there but dats people for u.
