Crime / What You Can Do When Stopped By Police by babino22: 6:15pm On Jul 14, 2015
PLEASE DO NOT BE AFRAID TO EXERCISE THE FOLLOWING RIGHTS

‘You have the right to remain silent’. If you wish to exercise that right, shout it so loud. Most Nigerians do not even know the meaning as simple as it sounds.

*As a lady, you have the right to tell the policeman that you want to be searched by a lady police and in case there is no lady police, the policeman can only search your car and bag. Same goes to the male.

*You have a right not to be arrested instead of your brother or father or any member of your family. For example, if your wife or son commit a crime and could not be found, the police have no right to arrest you. You can only follow them for questioning to aid their investigations.

*When at the police station, you must not immediately put a statement down. You can kindly demand for the presence of your lawyer before doing that. Avoid any tension

*Regardless of your immigration or citizenship status, you have constitutional rights, but your rights are limited as an unlawful immigrant.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

*Make sure you stay calm and be polite.

*Never interfere or obstruct the Nigerian police.

*Do not lie or give false documents.

*Do prepare yourself and your family in case you are arrested.

*Please be sure to remember the details of the encounter.

*Do file a written complaint

IF YOU FEEL YOUR RIGHTS HAVE BEEN VIOLATED

*PLEASE AND PLEASE, police misconduct cannot be challenged on the street.

*Don’t physically resist officers or threaten to file a complaint.

*Make sure you put down everything you remember, including officers’ badge and patrol car numbers, which agency the officers were from, and any other details.

*Get contact information for witnesses.

*If you are injured, take photographs of your injuries after first aid.

*File a written complaint and if you don’t know how to go about this, please use the “ask a lawyer box” for necessary guidance.

It depends on the given circumstance.
Take for instance the raped chibok captives, if they abort that pregnancy will it be termed murder?

YES YES AND YES. Those babies have the right to life.

Abortion involves terminating a pregnancy by the removing or expelling of a fetus or embryo from the uterus. This is sometimes due to the death of the fetus; however, it can also result in the death of it. Abortion is a very controversial topic because its frequency of occurrence, legal, cultural and religious status varies extensively in different regions of the world. There are many high-profile groups that champion either pro-choice or pro-life, and such organizations bring up a host of issues to further their often political agenda. Pro-life groups favor greater legal restrictions on abortion, or even the complete prohibition of it. They argue that a human fetus is a human being with a right to live, so abortion is similar to murder. In contrast, pro-choice groups argue that a woman has certain reproductive rights, especially the choice on whether or not to carry a pregnancy to term.
One of the most common reasons why some women want to have an abortion is because they have the desire to delay childbearing because they themselves are young. Other reasons include not wanting to stop work or schooling and/or because of financial or relationship instability. These reasons are consistent across numerous countries, including America. Most abortions that occur in the United States are obtained by women of a minority race because they are having higher incidences of unintended pregnancies. In developing countries, women have the additional concern of health risks and complications that occur as a result of unsafe practices in medical settings.
Some abortions happen because of societal pressures. This occurs to when there is little social support, when a specific gender of a child is preferred or when governments enforce population control, such as China’s one child policy. It is suggested that sex-selective abortion could account for disparities between the birth rates of male and female children in some countries. Many countries in Asia like China, South Korea and India have cultures that prefer male children.
When abortion occurs because of societal pressures, women sometimes have to resort to unsafe practices because the legalized healthcare route is not an option. As a result, countries that have restrictive abortive laws have more women that seek unsafe abortions. Unsafe abortions occur when they are performed by individuals without adequate medical skills or in an unhygienic environment. Such situations occur globally, and result in about 70,000 maternal deaths and 5 million maternal disabilities per year.
Induced abortions have aroused debate, controversy and activism because it is related to ethical, moral, philosophical, biological and legal issue. This is a personal topic because it touches on a person’s value system. Some pro-life groups have taken their case to the extremes and have targeted doctors and facilities that provide abortions with various types of violence, from murder to arson.

Career / Sleep Employed Wake Unemployed; Banker's Nightmare by babino22: 1:35am On Jul 02, 2015
As a bank worker, you can sleep employed and wake up unemployed just as the case of the people of Bakassi peninsular who slept as Nigerians and woke up Cameroonians. When employed in the bank just know that as far as the east is from the west that is how job security is far from you. On the account of downsizing, change of policies, meeting of targets and high level of unemployment, banks and other institutions have being laying off workers. Just of recent, one of the banks laid off over 200 workers in just two months in the name of downsizing, and this same bank later placed a recruitment advertisement looking for a new set of workers. The questions would then be; what happened to the over 200 workers that you rendered unemployed. Some bankers do unimaginably terrible things to stay on the job; ladies sleep with customers so as to deposit, the men have nothing to offer so they suffer the sack the most on the basis of meeting targets. When banks give you the target of over 300million then know that your days are numbered in the bank because you will need some politicians to deposit their wardrobe allowance before you can meet such outrageous target. A particular bank even told some shortlisted applicants that before they could get employed they must get depositors of 2million naira each.
Capitalism is the highest state of human slavery, our large population is being used against us as the capitalist (employers) know that millions are out there fighting for the same position you are holding presently, so they can afford to lay you off and bring in new ones. A country of over 160million with a large number of unemployed youths which result to very cheap labor with no law or body regulating worker’s treatment, then I can do and undo as an employer. Sometimes I look at our Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) as a purpose defeated association established just to go on strike when there is increase in fuel prices and when prices had being regulated then they go back to their shield.
Imagine a Nigeria with a functional body backed by law to go against unfair treatment of workers most especially when it comes to this issue of massive sack by mostly financial institutions. Institutions should be made to compensate workers who are unduly sacked; at least the people you are rendering unemployed should have something to lean on during the lag period before getting another job or advisably starting their own business. Nigeria should have a law to regulate the activities of these people on this aspect.

Talking about this lagos countdown thing, i was surprised why some people will choose to do cross-over to the new year in a place like that. At least i think it's best to commit how the year will be in the presence of the Lord. Talking about the performances at the event, why would i pay money to go and watch jimmy Jatt play music for me and the singers will just come and walk up and down on the stage and then go. I think it was yemi alade that really performed very well. They ought to have given her the award given to that patoranking sef.

Business / Exploitation At The Embassy by babino22: 4:25pm On Dec 12, 2014
I went to give some of my documents to someone at the US embassy, so i now realized that i had to do just one paper photocopy. Getting to the business center there with the paper in my hand, then all of them rushed me to come and do with them and i was like: it's just one paper na. I went straight to a lady to do it for me and when she finished she said: your money is 100naira. I laughed very hard hoping she was joking, when i got to know that She was serious i vex for her and told her it's 10naira, it was the mopo that followed me there told the woman not to worry that he'll pay for me. The mopo told me that even to staple is 100naira. I told the mopo that I'm coming to put my shop there.
