Senator Dino Melaye has celebrated the rejection of an aide to the president Lauretta Onochie as a national commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Igbere TV reports.
Chairman of the Senate committee on INEC Kabiru Gaya had said in his report on Tuesday that Mrs Onochie did not satisfy the provisions of the federal character principles as there is already a serving national electoral commissioner from Delta State Mary Agbamuche-Mbu who was screened and confirmed by the eighth Senate.
Gaya (APC, Kano South) disclosed that the petitions against Onochie were against the backdrop of her involvement in politics and alleged membership of a political party.
The Senate at the committee of the whole subsequently voted against her nomination.
Reacting to the resolution, Melaye who is a former Kogi West lawmaker and member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) said in an Instagram post,
“Lauretta Onochie is out. Character is everything.”
Onochie’s nomination had raised dust among the opposition and political observers. INEC commissioners are required by law to be non-partisan.
During her appearance at the Senate last week, Onochie said she stopped being a member of the All Progressives Congress after the 2019 elections. However, she had sworn to be an APC member in a court affidavit.
A 21-year-old undergraduate of the University of Lagos, Chidinma Ojukwu, has narrated how she stabbed the Chief Executive Officer of Super TV, Usifo Ataga, to death in the Lekki area of Lagos State, Igbere TV reports.
She spoke at the Lagos State Police Command headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday after she was paraded as a suspect by the state Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.
She said,
“We were in the lodge smoking. He was trying to make advances on me. I was tired and he became violent on it. I let him have his way. Towards afternoon, he ordered roofies. We took it together and ate food. He became high. I was still not happy with the first one (sex) that we had, so, I was staying on my own, smoking and drinking. He, too, was on his own.
“He came to me and I was like I am not happy with what he did. I was like, ‘You don’t help me, you don’t assist me with anything, you are just playing with me around’. He was like, ‘Take my ATM and withdraw what you want’.
“He later became violent trying to get to me and I was resisting and defending myself. At some point, he hit my head on the wall and I also retaliated.
“At some point, he was chasing me around the kitchen cabinet. I took a knife and stabbed his neck. I approached the door and he followed me. I stabbed him twice on the neck side. I threw the knife to the bed and he was going for it but I also went for it. He dragged the knife with me and it broke and he fell on the floor.”

Hackers, in the wee hours of Saturday took over the control of the Instagram account of Nollywood actor and lawyer, Kanayo O Kanayo.
The hackers go by the names @hacker_askadr37 and @1.shoot respectively on the social media platform.
Information gathered by Featured24 shows that while the former takes total control of the actor's Instagram page, he made a live video with the latter who is believed to be his accomplice.
The real identity of both hackers remain unknown as at the time of filing this report as the duo covered their faces with a mask which leaves only their eyes and mouth.
Information gathered from @hacker_askadr37's page shows that he is based in Nevada, a state in the Western region of the United States. Although, judging by their skin and hair, they are from an Asian country.
Photos posted on Askadr's page didn't show his face. It only show lavish lifestyle, apparently from money made from hacking and selling people's Instagram accounts.
Some fans of the actor who watched the live video jokingly told the hackers that Mr Kanayo is going to use them for rituals.
The reason why the hackers chose the actor as their victim is unknown likewise what their request may look like in other for them to release the account back to him.
The actor is notorious in many of his Nollywood movies for using people for money rituals.
The actor had on on Monday, March 1st 2021, celebrated his 59th birthday.
He also shared a video of himself showing off his piano skills.
Meanwhile, the hackers have threatened to hack several accounts belonging to celebrities while asking users to share the live broadcast from the now-hacked Kanayo's account to motivate them.
One of the accounts they threatened to hack is of popular crossdresser, Bobrisky. They said Bobrisky account will be hacked if they are able to get 1,500 live viewers. The viewers jump from 800 to over 1000 within 2 minutes.
The Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council in Edo State, Hon. Evbareke Jenkins Osunde has been caught up in a scandalous web.
The council boss has been accused of stealing the project of his predecessor and claiming same to be his.
Osunde had erected a big signboard to claim an already executed project, Ekae Market — a market built for the people of the area.
Written on the large signboard is "A FULFILLED PROMISE" with Governor Godwin Obaseki and Osunde's photographs on it.
However, residents of the town have claimed that the project was actually started and completed by Hon. Osaro Obazee who was Oredo Council Chairman under Comrade Adams Oshiomhole's administration.
The University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City has yet again found itself in the bad side of the students. The school has been accused of producing unsafe drinking water for students' consumption.
A reporter for Featured24 in Benin who bought the UNIBEN sachet water to ascertain the students' claims concludes that the water being sold to the students is truly unclean.
Close observation shows some particles moving around in the already sealed sachet water exposing how unclean it is for consumption.
Our correspondent who gave the school a benefit of doubt that the water could have been an old stock which has been packaged for long dug deep into the situation to unravel the truth.
According to his findings, the water being sold out for consumption were recently produced. This shows that the water is not going through proper process before being sealed in sachets.
The students of the school have vowed to sue the Management of the varsity for refusing to acknowledge the complaints of the students.
The students also called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to shut down the varsity water factory.
Meanwhile, in an apparent reaction, the Food and Drug Agency has vowed to shut down packaged water factories endangering Nigerians’ health.
But the UNIBEN management has now acknowledged the issues raised by the students, saying the matter was being addressed.
“The school is already on the matter please,” Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, UNIBEN's public relations officer, simply said in a students' online platform.
In many universities across Nigeria, there are certain types of dressing which are prohibited by the school authorities and are not to be worn within the school premises by students.
The management of University of Benin (UNIBEN), Benin City, has released a dress code book for students of the varsity.
The book titled, 'A Handbook on Dress Codes For Students', listed all the prohibited and the acceptable dresses for both the male and female students of the school.
Going through the book, Featured24 correspondent who was able to obtain a copy of the handbook discovered that wrapper and blouses or buba was included in the list of 'acceptable dress codes for female students'.
Adding to its outrageousness, students need to pay the sum of N200 to be able to get their hands on a copy of the book.
Prohibited code for the male students of the school include; Singlet (coloured or plain), Fez caps and dark glasses, Sleeveless shirts, Transparent clothing, Body hugs, Shorts, Ear-Rings, Necklace, Chain Belt and Low-waist trousers.
Dresses like Spaghetti tops, Long or short skirts with slit more than six inches above kneel level, Transparent clothing (blouses or skirts), One-handed blouses, Low-waist trousers, Rugged jeans and Wide-neck off-shoulder blouses and many others were prohibited for the female folks.
The launch of the handbook has raised many eyebrows with many students wondering why they have to pay to get a dress code book.
Meanwhile, in a reaction, the Students' Union Government (SUG) of the school said students should not pay a dime for the handbook as they are not aware of such levy.
While condemning management over the imposition of the N200 levy, the executive arm of the SUG said no agreement was reached between the Union and management before such decision was taken.
”For the record, there was never a time a meeting was called with the leadership of the Union to deliberate on any dress code or payment of N200 for the supposed handbook before the decision was taken by management.
“The Union, therefore, condemn, in a strong term, such unholy act by the University Management. We urge all our intellectuals to quickly discontinue payments for such items forthwith as it was never agreed upon between the management and the Union,” the statement said.
Similarly, the Parliamentary arm of the SUG vowed to resist such imposition on students, advising management to paste the handbook on 'notice boards' for students for free instead.
“Preferably there are ways to put this out to the notice of the general university community such as printing of banners at entry points, making a circular & pasting on notice boards.
“For the record, such impositions will be met with strong resistance anytime any day from students.
“Moreover, the way to curb indecent dressing is not and will never be through the sales of a handbook, no, instead it’s by creating awareness.
“I will not pay a penny, I advise all UNIBEN students to follow suit & post on their statuses that they will not pay a penny too,” a statement by the Union speaker read.
He lambasted the Professor Lilian Salami led administration, insisting that imposing any amount on students for the purchase of dresscode book was unacceptable.
“Prof Salami needs to understand that UNIBEN is not a company, it’s an academic institution with distinct managerial etiquette, also there are pressure groups/associations which naturally will exist & operate to secure the interests of their students,” he said.
Natasha Akpoti, a former governorship candidate in Kogi State surprised her follower as she gave him the sum of one hundred and fifty-five thousand (N155,000) to buy a sewing machine for his business, Featured24 reports.

A man who is said to be a lecturer at the Federal University of Petroleum Resources (FUPRE), Effurun, Delta State, allegedly called school securities on students over blockage of his car by the students’ flashy cars.
The car of the lecturer, whose name is yet to be identified, was said to have been among the lecturers’ whose cars were blocked by the students’ cars at the car park following resumption of academic activities.

As plot thickens in the rumoured move to sack the Abia State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Rt. Hon. Cosmos Ndukwe over alleged anti-party activities, an aide to the embattled Commissioner has said that his principal would fight back if removed.
The aide stated this in response to calls for Ndukwe to resign or apologise to the speaker , Abia state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. (Engr) Chinedum Orji over Ndukwe’s unjustifiable attacks on the former, mid last year.
The call for Ndukwe’s resignation or removal came after the Commissioner, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, few days ago, played host to the Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, an All Progressives Congress (APC) Senator, at his (Ndukwe) private residence in Abia and subsequent alleged participation by the Commissioner in an APC Abia North Caucus meeting held at the home of the Bende Federal House of Representatives member, Hon. Benjamin Kalu.
Among those who have condemned Ndukwe’s actions and demanded apology to Speaker Chinedum Orji from the Commissioner include Deputy Chairman of Bende local government council, Hon. Promise Uzoma Okoro, Chief Ubani Dannie, Prof. Uche Chinonso, Pharm. Francis Chukwudi, Dr. Nwokeocha Alozie and other PDP stakeholders.
But responding to the calls for his principal to resign or be sacked, an aide to the embattled Commissioner, who craved anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said his principal would fight back if removed from office.
He called on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu not to listen to the voice of those he called “enemies of the state” who he said we’re on a sinister plot to distablize his government for selfish reasons.
He further reminded the governor that Cosmos Ndukwe played key role for his election in 2015 and reelection in 2019, and “it’s unafrican for one to bite the finger that feed him.”
He warned the governor and those scheming to remove his principal not to forget that Cosmos Ndukwe has been a top member of their inner circles, and “therefore has very sensitive information that will unsettle them if provoked.”
“Since when did it become a sin for one to host leaders of the opposition party?, I mean not just any opposition leader but a former governor of same Abia state. Everyone, including the governor have also attended events hosted by leaders of the opposition party,” the aide said.

Popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter has suspended the account of Omotara, a Nigerian social media influencer who was seen in a video making fun of a beggar, Featured24 can confirm.
Omotara was in the video seen making fun of a young street beggar in her car while driving and sipping energy drink.
The video which was originally posted by the influencer on WhatsApp was screen recorded by an unknown person believed to be her friend and uploaded on social media.

A hotel worker, Opeifa Abayomi has been accused of killing his wife for attending her elder brother’s naming ceremony in Lagos State.
Popular social media influencer, Pamilerin Adegoke, who made the accusation in a series of tweets on Monday stated that there has been trouble in the family of the deceased who happened to be his aunty since her mother-in-law moved in with them.
Pamilerin who is the nephew of the deceased revealed that Abayomi was always controlled by his mother since she moved in and has always done his bidding. He also promised that justice must be served to them.
“My Aunty’s husband (Abayomi Opeifa) just killed her overnight. Because she went to her elder brothers naming ceremony Abayomi’s mother basically control him on what to do and what not to do. When to beat his wife and when he should not allow his wife sleep inside. I’m not against your parents staying with you, but my aunty has never enjoyed her home since her husbands mother moved in.

He added that Abayomi, in his defense, stated that his wife drank a sniper which killed her after she wasn’t allowed into her home from the naming ceremony.
“He said she drank sniper, my aunty that has endured way more. It’s ordinary one night that your stupid mother did not allow her into the house she built for you guys that she will now drink snipper. Abayomi you will rot in jail. Over 7 years of bad marriage.
“You took her to the mortuary without informing the family. You and your mother killed my sister.”

A Nigerian man, Adediran Rotimi has accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of illegally arresting him at gunpoint after they broke into his home.
Featured24 reports that Rotimi was among nine suspected internet fraudsters arrested and paraded by the anti-graft agency on Wednesday, October 14 in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According him, he was arrested for owning a laptop and smartphones despite the fact that he has nothing that could have incriminate him.
Rotimi said he was in his room sleeping at around 4am on the day of the arrest when operatives of EFCC who broke into his apartment.
“At first I thought they were armed robbers because of their mode of operations but after seeing their jacket I was calm since I don't have anything incriminating on me,” he said.
Rotimi further narrated that it was after he reached the commission's office at Ibadan things turned to worst for him.
He said his pictures alongside with others was taken and uploaded on social media platforms despite the fact that no information was carried out to confirm that he was involved in cyber crime.
He added that it was after his pictures was posted online and was tagged a suspect that the commission decided to carry out investigation.
“Later I was handed over to I.O (Investigation Officer). Three people search my phones and Laptop for over four hours they even took it to their ICT but nothing incriminating was found,” he said.
Rotimi said that his situation worsened after he was given a bail condition which he could not meet up with.
The bail condition, according to him, includes; one lawyer, two sureties with landed properties in Ibadan and must be a tax payer for at least 2 years.
He further revealed that he was charged the sum of two hundred thousand naira (₦200,000) “for offense I know nothing about”.
“I was in the cell for two days and I had unspeakable experience in that cell only God will deliver me from the mental disturbance and emotional disorder, I keep asking myself what did I do wrong? No evidence in me but yet detained,” he said, adding that he was able to meet up with the bail on the third day.
Rotimi said on getting back to home, he came to meet nothing as his apartment was robbed after EFCC broke into it and left it opened after the arrest.
Properties like plasma TV, every appliances in his room was stolen, including foodstuffs.
Expressing disappointment with the anti-graft agency, Rotimi said he the commission do carry out research before making arrest.
This is not the first time the anti-graft agency would be called out for illegal arrest and parading of suspects.
In September 2020, a lawyer, Tope Akinyode argued with the commission on Twitter over how the latter parades suspects.
According to the lawyer, media and public parade of suspects have no legitimacy under the Nigerian judicature. The only exception to this is ‘Identification Parade’.

No less than three persons have been confirmed dead as a truck, laden with loaded crates of beer on Sunday fell in Lagos.

Famous Nigerian gospel artist, Tope Alabi has said nobody can put her in bondage over the type of dress she can wear for being a gospel artist.

The 50 year old singer further stated that she can wear any dress she deem fit as long as it did not expose any part of her body expect “God says, Tope don't wear that”.

A Nigerian man, Uthman Samad on Wednesday asked Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai to give an update on his son enrolled in a public school.
It will be recalled that on September 23 2019, the governor had publicised the admission of his six year old son, Abubakar Al-Siddique, in a public primary school in the state.
However, Samad, in a follow up on Abubakar's education took to his account on popular micro-blogging platform, Twitter to call on El-Rufai to inform the public about how the boy is faring.
“Dear @elrufai, on Sep 23 2019, you publicised the admission of Abubakar Elrufai joining a public school here.
“I just want to know how the boy is faring and what class is he now sir?”, Samad tweeted on October 28, 2020.
Abubakar's enrolment to primary one in Capital School Malali in 2019 follows a promise made by his dad in 2017.

Osun State Governor, Gboyega Oyetola has relaxed the 24-hour curfew order imposed on the state for the second time.
This was contained in a statement released and made available to Featured24 on Wednesday.
According to the governor, the curfew is now to run from 6 a.m to 8 p.m.
The statement read; "Following the review of the security situation in the State, we've decided to relax the 24-hour curfew declared last Saturday to avert breakdown of law and order. Effective from tomorrow, Thursday, October 29, the curfew will run from 8:00pm to 6:00am daily, until further notice.
“This means members of the public can now go about their activities between 6:00 am and 8:00 pm daily. Security operatives will however be on ground to enforce the new curfew directive, as part of efforts to maintain law and order across the State.
“I commend citizens and residents of Osun for their understanding and cooperation in the last few days. I urge you all to continue to be peaceful and law abiding. As a government, we will continue to make efforts to protect the lives and property of our people.”

For several days, Nigerians across the country has been calling for an end to police brutality in the country especially its notorious unit, the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
However the protest has continued to lingered on despite the disbandment of the controversial unit of the Nigeria Police Force which was accused of killing innocent youths unjustly.
The disbandment was officially confirmed by the Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu earlier this week who announced the creation of new outfit, Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) to replace the defunct SARS.
Popular Nigerian rapper, Falz has openly rejected calls to have a virtual meeting with Inspector General of Police Mohammed Adamu and other government officials.
Organised by the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the meeting is expected to have Sunday Dare, Mohammed Adamu and the National Human Rights Commissions in attendance.
The Youth Virtual Town Hall Meeting is scheduled to hold at 3 pm on Friday.
Reacting to calls to join the meeting, the Law graduate and son of popular Human Rights Activist, Femi Falana, who has been at the forefront of the EndSARS protest wrote; “I will not be on this panel. I was given false information.
“Plus there is no need for all this please!! The agenda is clear #5for5 #SARSMUSTEND,” he said.
The call for the Rapper to join the meeting comes after he wrote a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
According to the letter, Falz is demanding the reconstitution of the National Human Rights Commissions (NHRC) board.
The letter follows the treatment of protesting Nigerians calling for an end to police brutality in the country.

Six Shot, 5 Stabbed As Hoodlums Attack EndSARS Protesters In Edo (Photos, Video)
Suspected hoodlums on Friday attacked protesting Nigerian youths calling for an end to police brutality in Edo State.
Armed with dangerous weapons like guns, cutlasses, the yet to be identified thugs attacked the protesters who gathered at Ring-Road, leaving many with injuries.
It was gathered that six of the protesters were shot by the hoodlums while no less than five were stabbed.
As at the time of filing this report, no death is recorded from the vicious attack.

This comes amid the ongoing protests across the country by youths demanding an end to police brutality.
Taking to his Instagram and Twitter accounts to share the letter, the Law graduate and son of popular Human Rights Activist, Femi Falana, who has been at the forefront of the protest asked Buhari to treat the letter as urgent.
“ @muhammadubuhari Please treat as urgent!,” he wrote.
The letter titled REQUEST FOR RECONSTITUTION OF THE GOVERNING COUNCIL OF THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION FOR THE DISCHARGE OF ITS FUNCTIONS WITH RESPECT TO CASES OF HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS IN NIGERIA read;
“I hereby write to Your Excellency as regards the above topic.
It has been brought to my knowledge via a statement by your Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adeshina, that the Federal Government has accepted the 5-point request of the ENDSARS protests presented by well-meaning Nigerian youths.
"This statement went on to state that there would be an independent investigation Panel to look into the violations of Human Rights by the defunct SARS and other segments of the Nigeria Police.
Quoting Mr Adeshina's statement : "The Forum agrees to the setting up of this independent panel by the National Human Rights Commission within the next one week"
It is pertinent to note that Section 5 the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Act 2010 empowers the National Human Rights Commission itself to receive complaints and investigate all alleged cases of human rights violations in Nigeria and make appropriate recommendations to the President.
The detailed and concise provisions of this Section adequately empower the Human Rights Commission to look into these cases by itself. The Commission need not set up another panel for the exercise of its functions.
More importantly, the National Human Rights Commission ought to have a Governing Council under Section 2 of the National Human Rights Commission (Amendment) Act consisting of the following people:
(a) a chairman who shall be a retired Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria or the Court of Appeal or a retired judge of the High Court of a State;
(b) a representative each of the following Federal Ministries- (i) Justice; (ii) Foreign Affairs; (iii) Internal Affairs;
(c) three representatives of registered human rights organisations in Nigeria;
(d) two legal practitioners who shall not have less than ten years post qualification experience;
(e) three representatives of the media, at least, two of whom shall be from the private sector;
(f) three other persons to represent a variety of interests; and
(g) the executive secretary of the Commission. As it stands now, the National Human Rights Commission has remained without the Governing Council since 2015 and still remains without it. The unfortunate circumstance has led to the aggravation of human rights abuse.
According to Section 7(3) of the National Human Rights Commission Act, the Executive Secretary of the Commission does not have the power to act without a Governing Council.
In the light of the foregoing, I hereby call on Your Excellency to immediately reconstitute the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission and to do so publicly as well as transparently in order to restore the confidence of young Nigerians in your proposed police reform process.
Failure to do this would force young Nigerians to believe that the continuous refusal to re-constitute the Governing Council of the National Human Rights Commission is a deliberate attempt to mislead us into thinking genuine efforts are being made at reforming the Nigeria Police, when in truth the opposite is the case.
“I am confident that Your Excellency will grant my humble request in order to guarantee the protection of the fundamental human rights of all Nigerians. Yours faithfully,
