Politics / How Many Of Us Abroad Has Borrowed From Banks And Not Paid Back by BAC: 11:11pm On Aug 25, 2009
We were not labelled as criminals, where we. We gave the debt collectors a run for their money didn't we. It is time to confess. So lets know your own story.

If you do that in Naija EFCC will lock you up and throw away the key. Without the due process. Niaja for show.
Politics / Re: Waziri, 100 EFCC Men Storm Lagos To Arrest Debtors by BAC: 11:02am On Aug 25, 2009
Criminal offence is difference from a civil offence. Borrowing money and not pay back is not a criminal offence. Efcc leader is truly olodo.
Business / Re: How Much Did You Exchange The Dollar For Today? by BAC: 9:14pm On Aug 24, 2009
if we see N200 a Dollar I won't be surprise. So take cover. All bank employee take cover the banks are about to sneeze.

otokx:

The press is printing all sorts of rubbish YES but neither AKINGBOLA or CECILIA have any thing to say. Why should a bank grant loans to buy its own shares? It is greed that has been exposed; for crying out loud these people were not poor but still they wanted more. Just look at that falcon securities guy; 80 billion. I mean that is criminality of the highest order. CBN has every right to step in before the whole system self destructs. SOLUDO went about it quietly by pumping 100 billion into INTERCONTINENTAL alone and yet it could not save them and that was in march. 4 months later 120 billion is being pumped inside and yet even that now is still not enough and some people are saying AKINGBOLA should still be left there. That guy should be in jail.

Can someone in Nigeria give this guy a hard knock please! Get his brains started. Ask yourself is it a criminal offence in Nigeria to borrow money from the bank and not pay? If you don't know the constituion. Answer is big NO, All bank employees in Naija, watch out , Some of those banks are about to sneeze.

Not only banks though, other sectors will suffer as well. Unemployment will be the order of the day. Mr president you need a knock on the head as well. This people should be solving the problems not creating a mess.
Politics / Re: Akingbola Defies Efcc; How He Escaped To London by BAC: 10:30pm On Aug 23, 2009
I am fed up of you guys. Bad mouthing someone that has not stated their own side of the story. Do we have to give you a hard knock on the head to get your brains started again? or is it just because it is made in Nigeria brains.

I say lets wait for the truth to be revealed just too early to judge. The press is printing all sorts of rubbish so let wait,
Politics / Re: Akingbola Defies Efcc; How He Escaped To London by BAC: 12:20pm On Aug 21, 2009
Guys , it is too early to come to conclusions. if the man travelled to London on friday do you expect him to be back in a few days?

It is not good to spoil people's image. I am sure this man is a man of integrity working in an environment polluted by crime. Some are commenting on his residence in Ghana,  If you have to opportunity to have residence abroad I am sure you will do the same. But as you don't have keep your mouth shut, if not God can never promote you to that level

so guys leave the guy alone. To run a bank is not easy. That the debtors cannot pay the money they owe does not necessarily mean the bankers did not follow due process. And at the end of the day bankers are there to take risk.

So keep your mouths shut. and watch,

This is the kind of thinking that makes me sick, if after you spend all this time in UK and can not understand that you did not make UK what it is, but the citizen did then your wasting your time there my brother. It will be better you dont  tell poeple your a Nigeria, what positive step have you taken to improve the so called mentality that frustrates you, rather its the British mentality that is better, Bros' they are not in anyway better, our battles are diffrent so we should never think like the British.
Thank you.
So back to the main topic what is the present exchange to the $ still 156 at black maket in Abuja

@Ericbon

My statement should not make you sick at all. I am sure you must be very sick now that the empty headed fools running the banks have carried all the money in Ghana must go, and left no collareral

BAC,

I dont know which state you live in USA but I have been in this USA for 28 years. I will rather see the $ exchange for $1 to N1. Likewise, all this outrageous exchange is not good for Nigeria. I pray that one day it will exchange for $1 to N1. Where are you during Udoji money? Did you get Udoji money? Did you realize how prosperous Nigeria was then. This is the kind of prayer you need to be praying and not $1 to N200. Why dont you think N1 to $200. Look at Zimbabwe today $1 is excahnge for 1.5 million of their local currency. I dont know which planet you live in by wishing your country this kind of exchange.
Personnally, if electricity is stable and crime is down, then I will move back to Nigeria because 28 years is enough in USA.

I am not based in USA. I am in the UK. Trust me, if you have lived on the US for 28years, even if crime in Nigeria is reduced and electricity is constant and Dollar is N1, you still cannot leave in that country. The mentality of the people in Naija will frustrate you.

I think the Naira would continue to be vunerable until we become a PRODUCTIVE country,we import too much, all our needs are basically imported,

we import fuel
we import rice
we import cloths
we import bicycles, cars, books, watches, drinks, the list goes on and on,

The US is the most productive country on earth, yet our leaders claim we copy the US system of government, the US is forever creating new products, innovation is key to their survival.

I guess,my imput is out of frustrations, school fees, tax, bills , seeing your investment crash is not a good sight. My farm needs imported feeds, even the local ones produced here need imported inputs.so we are all affected by the devaluation,I guess the only ones benefiting from this are the leaders who are busy stealing the money.

Good luck ,

F

Haaa you forgot to add empty Perfume bottles to your List. If people can import empty perfume bottles, trust me anything can be imported to Naija.

Guys in the house, I am not saying Naira should go N120 or N200. Where ever it likes, it should go. Who cares. All I am saying is I have positioned myself. If I rake in profits at N200 my prayer may turn to N120 who knows. I have properties in Niaja and my income from those are coming down, but rental income is rubbish money.
I have made a deal for a 4 acres of land, final price has been agreed, The money is ready and it is all in £££ and payment is not due till Dec. £ has been rising against the dollars if naira in turn fall against the Dollar, I will be laughing to the bank. if i decide to sell the whole lot of land next year, either naira is strong or not, I command my price, But who wants to sell? not me,

But in naija either you guys like it or not, If you don't pump enough oil out now naira will fall.
Except one of your University students down there has made a saleable product that can knock out Microsoft windows or Ipod. As long as Nigeria depends on oil, the country is sitting on a table with one big leg.

So apologies to those I have offended and him I have caused.

You don't get it Fhemmmy, my family in Naija are doing all night to get this thing to N200. So take cover,
Business / Re: How Much Did You Exchange The Dollar For Today? by BAC: 1:19pm On Aug 04, 2009
This is not rocket science. It is for sure that naira will be losing value, Even if oil is consistently over $70. The problem is the level of oil coming out of Naija? Don't forget Oil is a futures commodity, it takes time for change in inventory and price filter through, The South south people are your problems.

I can't wait for N200 - $1. It is coming so those in Naija should take cover,

Our investments at home - Nigerians abroad
By Olaolu Afolabi
Saturday, August 1, 2009

NOWADAYS, as a result of the economic situation in the world, Nigerians in diaspora have devised means of making investments with their hard-earned money. They are now making investments in real estate, stock exchange, transport sector and many others.

Most of remittances from abroad these days are for one investment or another. Nigerians abroad have resorted to investing in local markets with the belief that it will yield dividends. Some of them indicated their investments in the country in this online chat:

I left Nigeria about 10 years ago. Initially, I used to send money for the general upkeep of my family at home. Later, I realised that the earlier I started a small project at home, the better. Already, I own an estate with six three-bedroom flats in Ibadan; three four-bedroom flats in Lagos, another three-bedroom flat in Ibadan, and some landed properties. Here, there is limitation to the amount in your bank account. So why putting much in account and be prosecuted? I’ll rather send it home for a worthwhile venture. I have a developer who handles the project for me, together with some members of my family. I have no problem whatsoever. –Ade

••••••••••

I have got so many things I am laying my hands on for now. I can’t live here forever. I dream of going home one day. I am into auto sales. I buy cars here and send them home for sale. I have people who handle that for me. The proceed is sent to me for another deal. It has been worthwhile. That’s how I get going. In fact, I am surviving this period of economic meltdown because of those sales. Recently, I shipped about 10 cars of different makes to Nigeria and they had been sold. People in Nigeria get money to buy those things, for sure. I won’t mind making cool money from such business. For now, I’m not thinking of any other investment. –Titi

••••••••••

I have made a great deal of investment in the stock market. To say that I almost passed out due to the shock in the market was an understatement. I lost a lot of money. Of course, no one could be blamed. I am not resting. I’ll still make more, though with caution this time around. I know when the meltdown is over, I will have reasons to laugh. For now, I can only consider options of buying landed properties in remote areas. I’m only afraid of these omo onile brouhaha.–Uche

••••••••••

I sold my house to raise money to travel out of the country, together with my family, about 15 years ago. Today, I can speak of having about five structures in different locations in Nigeria. Though it was painful selling off the properties then, I think the benefit now is immense. I have a duplex where I reside any time I come to the country. I have other houses which are on lease. Aside that, I have some investments in stocks. As a matter of fact, I receive bonuses and dividends at every year ending. Though it is not very encouraging now due to the financial meltdown, I know once things become okay, my money will be worth it afterall.–Isabella

••••••••••

Investments? I have so many in Nigeria. I have friends back home whom I supply okada to from here and I make money. After every sale, I invest the profit in other ventures. I can bet it that it is worthwhile investing from here — the yield is high. I can supply anything from here and make my money from it. Whatever they need from Nigeria, I can easily get it here. I use the proceeds to acquire many properties; land and houses in many parts of the country. –Jacob

••••••••••

I am still young, so, I am not in a hurry to build houses in Nigeria. All I want is how to make more money from here. I am presently running two boutiques in Nigeria. I know what guys and ladies want and I always get it for them. I have access to latest wears here. It is easier to buy such dresses here. –Goodness

••••••••••

I don’t send money home, but I do send electronics. My people at home help me to sell it at reasonable prices, with a condition that part of the money should be used for a viable project. Through that, I have been able to acquire many properties at home. I bought a land in a remote area recently. I was later told that a telecommunications company wanted to acquire the land. It was a very good offer and I was able to make money from it. –Sukyakma

••••••••••

Funny, isn’t it? That a Nigerian will stay here without making efforts to invest at home. Well, I don’t believe any Nigerian should stay here and not think of something that will help multiply his money. As a matter of fact, I am into so many investments in Nigeria. I participated in virtually all the public offers in the stock market. I have structures on lease in different parts of the country. I am into auto business, I buy cars here, send them home and sell at good prices. The proceeds from the business are invested in other things. Virtually every Nigerian I know here is doing that. You can’t store up money here. Even dollar is not valuable here, but send it home, and it becomes gold. Every month, I am into one project or the other. Whenever I decide to come back to Nigeria, I am sure I will be able to live well for the rest of my life. –Tito

••••••••••

I asked myself; what can I do to generate money? What problems could I solve that will make me richer? I got a good answer. Nigerians needed generating sets to cushion the effects of poor power supply on the economy. I have an arrangement with a company here from which I get generating sets in quantities and ship to Nigeria. I have since established a company dealing with the sales of the goods. So, once I send them, the company helps with the sales. That’s what I am doing and I can tell you, it’s worthwhile. –Tunde

••••••••••

What’s more? I have tried so many investments at home and I have failed. I had my money in some failed banks in Nigeria. Stock market has not even encouraged me since I lost a great deal due to the global economic meltdown. I think my only consolation now is an acre of land which still belongs to me. I don’t know if it’s bad luck, but I’ve not been lucky to invest at home. I am not thinking of coming home now, even ever. I am satisfied with life here. My family is here, so, no need to bother about any home. –Belly

I may be able to sort this out. I know Dr bernard the controller general, but the problem is that I don't like asking people for favour, I will call him and mention the discussion on this tread and lets see what he says. If you don't see the customs there any more, that means its Job done. Please note: If they are working within the confines of the law, then nothing anyone can do. And I can't push him to take action as I am an ordinary man and I don't live in Niaja.

So fingers crossed,

In the UK we are watching Nigeria closely. I don't know how they will sustain the strength of Naira in the long term when the amount of oil barrels coming out of Nigeria has reduced considerably. I am waiting to see where we are at the end of next quarter. Naira is not set free yet in my own opinion DYOR

25% refuse to think and the last 65% would rather commit suicide than think.

I don't mean to pry in y'all business, but something here really intrigued me. First off you sell empty perfume bottles? Wow, never heard of that. Second, why would anyone need a CV, proof of sales and 3 letters of sponsors (reference letters) to sell empty bottles? Please if I may ask, on average, how much do on of these bottles cost? and what is the capital potential in this? In addition, I assume it commission based pay, so can you please tell us how someone gets paid from this kind of project? Why am I not surprised, someone needs to be educated to sell bottles, wow, what level of education  are we talking about here and please don't tell me is at least (Bachelor's degree) because that's an (go figure). Please highlight further because this is getting interesting.

What do you mean ,  you need a masters degree to sell them bottles and Nigerian degree is not accepted, You think say na joke,  They are N250 per bottle, it is a new trend, Wait for a year or so muguns like TemmyTanny will drop their unmoving car sales business to sell moving empty perfume bottles.
