pu7pl3:I watched this anime some years back. It was pretty solid but didn't stand out enough to be memorable. It was good tho... |
Brokeloser:Checked it. This anime is a 4.6/10 on IMDB tho... And I saw some comments about it being LGTBQ or so... |
The Rose of Versailles (1979).....8.5/10 Synopsis - The story is centered on the true life events leading up to the French Revolution of 1789 and also covers the Revolution itself whereby the commoners and some other factions sought to take back political power over France from the ruling class/monarchy. This led to countless loss of life and so much human cruelty. The story is about 90% based on true life events but it's major protagonist is a completely fictional character called Oscar François de Jarjayes. Oscar was a member of the Jarjayes family who have been loyal to the Monarchy. Oscar, due the her father lacking a male heir was raised by her father as a man to succeed him. As a result, she joined the Royal guards. It is a tragic tale that retells the events leading up to the French revolution and many characters who played different roles in it. I had to do a little research on the French revolution after I finished watching and while the series isn't 100% accurate, it is mostly accurate and many of the major events and characters were captured in this 40 episodes anime series. It captures many major events like the Affair of the diamond necklace during which the people completely lost faith in the ruling class. .. When I started the story, I thought it would be like the usual Hollywood female power show with Mary Sue characters but the deeper I went, it became clear that this wasn't the case. Every character stands out with their own strength and weaknesses. Oscar struggling with her own identity and romance as someone who was raised as a man and who had fully accepted that identity, even if it meant depriving herself of love and attempting to shut out her feminine side and feminine emotions. Andre who loved and was loyal to Oscar but would not hesitate to call her out when he disagreed with her choices. Marie Antoiniette, the Dauphine of Austrian origin who entered a political marriage at the tender age of 14 with the French Dauphin (who became King Louis XVI). She was mostly portrayed as a timid but ignorant Queen easily manipulated and swayed by her own emotions and thus failing to see the plight of the common people. The way the story captures many events is brilliant. The soundtrack too was brilliant and fitting. The only downside is the animation. Since it was animated in 1979, the animation is not great.

Kaycee7:The highlight of season 1 of Vinland Saga was not the action, it was the story and the characters. Askeladd was almost like the main character of season 1. Canute also had good development in season 1...turning from a timid Christian prince to becoming someone who rebelled against God and wanted to even create paradise on Earth for those who he believed could not be saved by the trials set forth in the world by God (aka the Vikings) From that to even become a schemer who planned to usurp his father. And eventually he achieved same. Thorfinn was the only stagnant in season 1 and was criticized by Askeladd for refusing to grow up. Ask any fan of the series, the best parts of season 1 were not the action scenes. A show having action doesn't make it all about action. Season 2 has almost all the elements of season 1 but has very little action and a far slower buildup. That's why I think criticizing the season 2 for having very little action is not valid. Because the highlight of season 1 were not the action scenes... If Demon Slayer was to make another season with no action but just character writing and storytelling, then that would be a valid complaint because the highlight of Demon Slayer has been focused on the fight scenes. |
abduleez1:@ bolded Was Ketil ever a good man tho? He treated his slaves well and even gave them a chance to become free men but he never gave the same deal to Arnheid. He had a wife too but cheated on her with Arnheid. He must have known that Arnheid was with him against her will, but he made her stay with him because he loved her. She was his slave and never really had a choice. Technically, every sèx he had with Arnheid qualifies as rape. Although you can argue that based on the times he lived in, he could be seen as "good" compared to how others treated slaves. And it was the right of the owner to sleep with his slave. Aside that sef, Ketil was a coward using the reputation of another man who bore the same name. He was never this brave or strong warrior |
Ijustwantto:You just dey spam this thread... And don't jinx it... Maybe na your jinx even make them win |
abduleez1:The same season was called boring by some people who wanted action every second. Because most of the season was spent on a farm, they called it boring... They ignored all the character work. Even side characters like Arnheid were fleshed out. And her husband Gardar was used to critique the Vikings lifestyle and the regrets that come with loss |
Bacteria8:He didn't score on the night I quoted you. |

jpmoriarti:It's fake. Champions League on Friday isn't possible |
DieRich5:No mind them. Hollywood dîckriders. The clôwns will watch so many poorly-written shows and call them peak, but will dismiss a well-written anime as "kids show" and think they are smarter |
DeeScan:From what I've heard, it's not the same as the movie. It follows different sets of characters but set in the same world... Personally I can't remember anything about the Terminator movies. I didn't like them back then and I have no interest in rewatching them... But I will watch a summary and then watch this anime |
DeeScan:I watch based on interest, or general reviews or recommendation. I don't watch every anime. Even though I've seen many anime, I am still very selective and I drop shows a lot. If I'm not enjoying a show, there is no point torturing myself further...unless I return to the show later if it interests me |
Looking at the new Champions League format...I am excited for the fixtures to come in this new format. But at the same time, I am concerned for the players, and not only because of the huge number of games. With this new format, every match is important and goal difference will be a huge determinant. This means there are less chances to rest players as every match is very important to avoid playoffs as only 8 teams will get automatic qualifications. With our paper thin squad, we still can't afford to rotate and this might lead to our squad completely drained before January. We don't have a reliable backup LB or RB. We don't have a DM. We don't have a LW. We only have 2 fit CBs with no backups To fight Madrid's super team in the league, we also have to play to win every game. How much more can this paper-thin squad take? If we get one more injury in a major position, we are fûcked. When you look at things, you realize that despite Madrid having a very shaky start to their league campaign, they are in a far better position than us. They have so many players they can afford to rest and rotate and they just need to get their team playing well together and they will be good. We on the other hand are walking on thin ice, with any little shake and we could collapse. Huge shame to the board and Deco for this shambolic Summer window |

Kaczynski:Big lie. Cyberpunk Edgerunners wasn't trash Ooku The Hidden Chambers wasn't trash |
They want to kill PSG ![]() Psg's opponents - Mancity Bayern Munich Atletico Madrid Arsenal Psv Salzburg Girona Stuggart

Players we pursued this window - Xavi Simon's Nico Williams Dani Olmo Rafael Leao Chiesa Jonathan Tah Bajcetic Cancelo (loan renewal) Rabiot Who else? |
From reports, our transfer window has closed since the club has no plans to sign any other player in this transfer window... Na till January... This is probably our worst summer window in decades. We came into the transfer window with positions to fill like - LW and DM Summer window is closing and we still have no LW or DM. Now we got weakened in several positions as players left or are injured. We also only have 2 CBs and no proper backup for LB or RB In other words, we are cooked... We need at least one LW, DM, LB, CB, RB We kept barking at players throughout this window yet the only played we managed to sign is Olmo ![]() |
phr0nesis:First season was underwhelming... Not sure if it's worth continuing |
Terminator Zero anime out on Netflix Let's see if those "anime is for kids" clique will watch this

oliverano:We had not won there since like 2018 |
I never want to see Ferran in a Barca shirt again. The club needs to unregister him. Ter Stegen is finished. Martin should never start a game again. LW is dead
|
oyaskii:Hollywood has always been about playing it safe. That is why we get constant reboots or revival of dead franchises to milk and squeeze them to the last drop... Look at the superhero genre. most superhero fights in Hollywood come down to simple punching and kicking despite the vast powers of many characters.... There is always the issue that directors feel something is too bizarre for the but screen |
oyaskii:Depends on what you mean by original idea. You can borrow from previous works while adding a new spin that makes it feel fresh. A combination of multiple genres can also lead to great works like Attack on Titan or the Songs of Ice and Fire If you mean whether it's possible to make a new movie without any idea that has been explored before, that's unlikely For example, the fantasy genre has limitless possibilities as it's basically up to the extent of the writer's imaginations... (Unlike the fraudulent multiverse). Unfortunately most fantasy shows/movies especially from Hollywood just rehash the same thing --- dragons, magic spells, fairies, goblins, vampires, etc All of these fantasy/mythical creatures and powers were created by people, why can't others invent new ones? |
Chiesa will cook in this squad... He knows how to make those runs and unlike Ferran, he has end product |
More cast for One Piece season 2

abduleez1:This might be one of the few anime I would watch first in English dub to be honest. Saw the trailer in both Japanese and English... And LOTR just feels much better in English |
izombie:The same anime is better than 90% of the shows you've watched. Looking down on a show because of its medium is so stale. We are in 2024...anime is mainstream... If you don't rate them, that's on you but it doesn't change the fact People go dey hate on anime, yet they waste their time watching stûpid shows like Acolyte, Blacklist, She-Hulk and the likes |
