Xavier5: SPY KIDS: ARMAGEDDON --- 3/10
An immature, juvenilistic, and unappealing movie with a super bland villain. Although its comic theme was good, likewise the actings of Zachery Levi, Gina Rodriguez, Connor Esterson, and Everly Carganilla as Terrence, Nora, Tony and Patty respectively, especially Everly and Gina.
When I saw Netflix as the studio behind the movie, I was thrilled, anticipating an intriguing movie like most Netflix films, but tragically, I was slapped with a Nickelodeon and Disney XD quality of film. Such tragedy. I guess the younger audience might find it interesting, I hope they do though.
Honestly, Spy Kids franchise has the potential of being a big scale, spy action thriller franchise, a worthy competition to Ready Player One, Mission Impossible, and James Bond franchises, but unfortunately it is sitted at the "Potential" court.
#Xavier why did you even watch it in the first place? Did you actually expect it to be any good? I refuse to believe anyone genuinely thought this movie would be anything but hot tràsh |

The Gaza conflict causing another war in AOT subreddits in the past few days and mods don delete posts tire I've noticed a lot of Palestinians support the Eren and Floch in AOT. They always be like, you would support what Eren was doing if you lived in a similar situation in real life... All over tiktok, Twitter and Reddit, these guys can't keep fiction out of a real war... And they ignore one of the main themes of AOT about how there is no objectively right side in war...every group believes they are in the right and the others are wrong...and everyone has different perspectives and as long as people hold on to these unbending beliefs there will always be human conflict

camri: Ishi, I want you to look into this. I saw this Ghanaian movie. A couple is about to get married. The bride invites her friends from abroad. During the traditional wedding, one of the Bride's friends confesses he and the groom slept together ten years ago in college, like a one nite stand causing the wedding to come to an abrupt end. i was now wondering, is that a genuine reason to call off a wedding or the writer was being petty. stop watching shîtty movies |

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Tom Cruise never disappoints.
Can't wait for part 2.
I think Tom Cruise will go underwater in part two. The man likes risking his life
I'm still amazed he did the jump off the cliff with a bike a whopping six (6) times while filming

NaijaMemes: Continuing on the ignorance of the average Nigerian, we can relate said ignorance to the movie section right here on Nairaland.
On most movie forums or groups abroad, you will see people dissecting movies from different angles. From the graphics, to the politics, to the themes and quality of writing. Also such foreign groups also tend to have a lot of members who watch movies at the cinema.
But come to Nairaland, and you will see all manner of reviews that have no context. 95% of the Nairaland movie forum don't even watch movies at the cinema.
The ignorance comes in their defence of not watching movies at the cinema. What they don't realise is that they are exposing their poverty based mentality when arguing against cinema movies. Now, it is not compulsory to watch all movies at the cinema but as a movie fan or fanatic, you have to watch some of the blockbusters at the cinemas.
The irony being that cinema tickets are cheaper in Nigeria than the west. A blockbuster movie costs at least 10 pounds in Central London. 10 pounds is 12,000 Naira at the moment.
There is a certain nuance that comes with watching a movie at the cinema during its release. For instance, Black Panther was a success because of its timing. It was released at black history month, and at a time when there was scarcity of black African heroes. The black panther movie was also a movement at the time with everyone coming out of the cinema with the cross-armed Wakanda greeting. Watching the movie four months later wouldn't have that effect. some people dissect movies here. I also do sometimes but not all movies are worth the stress when I'm not getting paid to do it. There is also the issue of posting spoilers which is frowned upon here. For the last point, watching a movie in cinema or at home has no implication on it's quality. Same as either watching a football match in the stadium or a public hub/viewing center or at home. The only difference is the experience. Some movies are made for the cinemas and some of these movies even use certain tricks to blind the audience into believing that the quality of the writing is actually better than it is. Case in point: Spiderman: No Way Home Objectively, No Way Home is at best a 7/10 but with nostalgia bait and popcorn crowd experience, many viewers during it's cinema run saw it as a 10/10 masterpiece. Once it hit streaming and people were properly able to dissect the movie without all the cinema noise, all the flaws were highly noticeable In fact, I would trust a review that was made after a movie was carefully watched over one that has its flaws hidden by cinema noise Lastly, some movies also release a slightly different version for streaming where they correct all the errors made during the rushed cinema release. You can even get a director's cut with added scenes that were removed during it's cinema run to cut down runtime Looking down on people's reviews cos they watched it at home is pathetic. Most movies don't cost more than #3500 to watch but it also takes a lot of time and stress to go to the cinema which people would rather use for other things... You should note that not everyone here even has time to watch movies at a single sitting...some watch in 3 sittings Some movies also are not even worth the money, time or stress in going to the cinema for them e.g Antman, Shazam, The Flash, Blue Beetle etc You can even add taste too. Some people won't make sacrifices to watch Barbie cos it's not really to their taste but they can find time to watch it on streaming in like 3 sittings |

blingxx: From the same studio that made "the boys" and "invincible" you should expect a lot of gore I don't mind gore that much... But I don't like senseless gore. The Boys has a lot of gore but the story, characters and world makes it relevant as it's trying to portray that Superheros aren't saints and what really happens when people have superpowers and we're allowed to exist as superheroes... Their powers don't just knock people out as we see in cartoons and Marvel/DC movies As long as Gen V also has a good story and characters, I'm up for it |

BankyGee: Gen V (2023) 9.5/10
I'm still surprised as to why this series is getting bad reviews online.
So far so good, this is my best series of 2023! It is nothing short of expectations and lived up to the hype. Gen V is a spinoff series that is set in the world of The Boys (2021), but in an academic environment with new, younger characters introduced. The first three episodes have been phenomenal and the series still carries the same energy from the principal series, The Boys, leaving nothing behind - especially the gore! I love the kind of "we can do anything with this series" energy The Boys universe is giving out, lol... Literally anything you can imagine can happen!
The writers are definitely doing a great job with the series as each new episode gets better than the last, the character development is on point and the story is not rushed. I hope the series keeps this energy or get better as new episodes are released!
Also the actors are well cast, their acting is on point and their characters are natural, not forced as we see in some flicks. This should be getting a 10/10 in my books, but I can't find a page in the book, so 9.5/10 will do. will wait for it to finish airing... I didn't know it had bad reviews... Why? Hope it's not just senseless gore Modified: I checked IMDB user reviews and I was shocked. I had to scroll down so much before I found a single positive review on the show... I'll probably still wait for it to finish airing or join when I free up my schedule |

Emotional bait
Despite this movie being popular, I had no idea what it was about. I always assumed it was some military based movie.
Anyway, I respect their work in shedding light on the human-trafficking market especially children being bought and sold...
Truly this is something that the Society tends to overlook. I didn't even imagine it was that rampant before I saw the movie.
Good job from the producers

brainhack: If this is true then it just shows that he didn’t analyze the situation thoroughly. Cuz now that he has been sealed, these humans are sitting ducks, Fake Geto can kill them with a flick of his finger.
It’s a lose-lose situation. He carried the two Ls. He didn’t eliminate the threat and he didn’t save the humans. You don’t want to see clips of American military carrying out operations and the cost (civilian lives) that comes with it. This is the real world.
Their death was inevitable from the beginning, he should have done the needful. Now the fate of the world hanging in balance (evil has the upper hand right now).
If anybody’s ideal can be said to be most flawed, I would say its Gojo’s ideal. I secretly hope he dies for it lol, now or in the future. (Spoiler Alert: Gojo d*** in the manga) it is a far harder choice than what you're describing... Would you use your own hand to kill innocent people who did nothing to you just because you're sure you can't save them all? Let's be real, even in his situation, most people won't do it... It's one thing to try to save people but fail at it... It's another thing to use your own hand to kill innocent people |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Baddestguyp(m): 4:41pm On Oct 02, 2023 |
brainhack: I was glad to learn Gojo had the cojones to kill Geto.
But Gojo not wanting to use domain expansions from the start cause he didn’t want to kill the humans present was a mistake:
1) It is obvious that those top tier cursed spirits wouldn’t face him without something sinister and powerful up their sleeve (going up against Gojo is suicidal). If I were Gojo, that was enough reason to kill them fast. 2) Gojo dying would spell doom on the world. Imagine such power imbalance, billions of humans in the world are at risk just cuz he didn’t want a 100 or so to die. 3) For every second wasted in the fight pain taken beatdown, it was obvious more humans could be diverted to the venue.
The optimal solution was use domain expansion from the start, kill Mahito, Hanami & Choso. Well that is what I would have done.
From comments on Reddit, So many people felt the same way too. No doubt Gojo’s moral compass is impressive but at what cost? Gojo doesn't really have a high moral compass imo... He is ready to accept the death of many humans if he sees it as inevitable...as shown in that battle... What he cannot accept is being the one who caused their deaths by killing them. That's why he held back, he doesn't want to kill humans with his own powers... It's Itadori that has a very high moral compass... That's why Gojo still used his domain expansion but limited it to a tenth of a second so that regular humans can still survive it albeit with some brain damage which they did recover from in a few months My own issue is Jujutsu High sending in only Gojo when it was obvious a trap had been set for him. Even regular humans who didn't know of his existence were brainwashed by curses into calling for him... That is a clear sign that the enemy was purposely targeting him...and they must have definitely prepared for him since his abilities were not even a secret... I get the idea of other sorcerers getting in his way and him being unable to go all out...but that's the same situation as him being surrounded by regular humans...he still couldn't go all out... |
TV/Movies › Re: What Series Are You Watching Now? Part 2 by Baddestguyp(m): 4:35pm On Oct 02, 2023 |
brainhack: Lol Mahito is one my favorite characters, he is so adapt at using his power he reminds me of Hisoka (Hunter x Hunter).
He would definitely be a very hard kill for anybody apart from Gojo.
One thing about some anime is that at some time, you sit back and think of the ideals presented. Sentiments apart Geto’s ideals were not utter nonsense, they were quite grounded.
As humans, we kill cows, goats etc for food, hunt them for pleasure because we are a higher life form. Curses are superior to humans shouldn’t this same ideal hold true. Sorcerer stand tall above curses & humans, why should they be in the shadows and take their place of authority over all? while I agree that Geto's ideals were not nonsense, they did pose some flaws... The fact that regular humans didn't know about the existence of curses... You can't really blame regular humans for everything when they do not even know they cause the birth and existence of curses... There is also the fact of punishing Innocents e.g kids and babies who have absolutely nothing to do with what is going on in the Jujutsu world |
