The action scene at the beginning was some real John Wick stuff...

I'm not sure if this will be a single season mini-series...
But I think it shouldn't go past 1 season...

Blue Beetle (2023) - 9.4/10

All I can say about this movie is damn! This movie is a masterpiece and a beautiful work of art! It could easily pass as my best movie for this year! Acting, checked, action sequences, checked, story, checked, humour, checked, cinematography, checked, pacing, checked - Blue Beetle is perfect!

The emotions in the movie, the balance between the comedic, tragic and heroic parts is something that should be studied. The whole family thing feels real, not Fast & Furious-ish and is relatable. I've not gotten this kinda satisfaction from a DC movie in a long time now.

Becky G as Khaji-Da's voice is just perfect as she's one of my best female musicians, her voice and sense of humour is sooo on point. The entire cast was perfect - something you can't take out of the DC Cinematic Universe, right from Zack Snyder till date 👌🏾

Lastly, the reference to the famous Scorpion's "Get over here" from Jamie was raaaaddd 🥶👊🏾😂

Blue Beetle kick-starting the James Gunn era of the DC Cinematic Universe brings a new feeling of hope for die-hard DC fans. Quality over quantity anytime, any day 😎

I always talk about my lack of investment in JJK and this is why. What was this guy's character arc? He literally failed at every step, didn't get a satisfying climax or reunion and more or less got off-screened.

It's like Gege Akutami is more interested in subverting expectations and avoiding shonen tropes such as "nakama power" and fanservice than actually writing a story that makes you feel.

I'm sure most JJK fans can connect with the characters just fine. For for me though, it's like I've just been looking at cool fight after cool fight for the past couple of years.

I think that's the point of his character. He was the strongest of his generation, he had the strength he desired to protect those close to him, yet he couldn't...

He tried to protect his friends e.g Geto...innocent civilians, tried to protect his students, yet he was unable to do so...

I saw his arc as more of a tragic arc...
I don't read the manga but I know the JJK world is pretty cruel...

Deaths in JJK aren't supposed to be heroic...they're mostly quick and unexpected...

Gojo was never going to get an Erwin kind of send-off...
That's not how JJK does things...

Plus I think the character of Gojo realized the same thing too...

His powers does that to others and his character was the same...

And that's why he still trusts his comrades and expects them to someday surpass him

I'm really excited to start this maybe tomorrow. I've seen a few Korean movies with similar premise and I so love them.

Old Boy (2003).... 8.9/10

This is a premium tier dark twist of fate. Damn. Revenge served icy cold. Never seen a revenge thriller this dark and patient. A deep sad tale. Started out as something funny and edgy to driving full throttle into a dark, gritty and vengeful tale.

The ending scene was downright hilarious as well as heartbreaking at the same time. Damn piece of acting performance. True pain depicted with emotionally expressive perfection in this scene. One of a kind performance that could easily pass off as reality and original. What some might call method acting.
The third act is one of the greatest and darkest take I've ever seen. Shït got wild real quick.

Perfect Blue(1997).....8.5/10

A great and a weird movie at the same time. It perfectly blurs the line between what's real and what's a figment of ones imagination. It's a chilling psychological thriller with jarring moments you wouldn't guess would be shown in an animation.
It was so raw and unflinching.
It tells a story of a pop singer venturing into new grounds as an actress. Things takes a dark turn when she decides to leave her teenage girl band for a career change; which makes her begin to question her very being. Her purpose? The Real Deal or an Impostor? What's real? What's not?

Perfect example of animation being a medium and not entirely for kids. This is an animated film but pretty much not for kids. I give it to Japanese filmmakers. These guys go out of their way to perfect their storytelling whether it's animation or not.
This is not what you'd expect even for a dark animé. There were scenes that was pretty much uncomfortable despite being an animation at that and pretty old design style.
The score was gripping and fitting with the scenes giving more bite to each scene.

Reminds me of Black Swan.

I love everything comes together in the last 10-15 minutes of this movie

They sell them through secret autions that only their staff and a few connected people know about...
