Politics / Re: Buhari Has Failed by BakireBulmaker: 2:20am On May 24, 2018
post=67820091:
[s]A party left the country in ruins after 16 years. It is now crying that the edifice has not been rebuilt in three years. Is it not easier to destroy than to rebuild? The rebuilding of Nigeria is proceeding apace. Another term for President Buhari will take the job very far. Consolidation of the good works is good prospect, not only for us, but also our children. Things may be tough for Nigerians now, but they are like birth pangs, which begin to fade at a point. And they are fading. A woman brings forth only with pains, tears and groaning. But when she beholds her baby, all those pale into insignificance. A new dawn, new visitation is coming our way. We can see the Promised Land. Nothing should stop us from stepping into it.

Archbishop Justin Welby, Head of the Anglican Communion Worldwide, told President Buhari in London "Great statesmen are those who run for the good of their country." Spot-on. The 2019 race is not for self, but for the good of the country. Discerning Nigerians did it in 2015. In greater numbers, they are poised to do it again in 2019[/s]

Just shut up, abeg angry

Nigerians are geting light, but Igbos and their baba are obviously not.

Sucks to be Igbos..

Don't be a stubborn goat! angry

Obasanjo and GEJ actually laid the foundation of whatever power improvement we are having today.

The foundation of a building is never seen or appreciated. Yet it is the most important part of a building and a lot goes into its construction.
Same goes for the power sector. cool

You are on a public forum where people discuss issues and exchange sane, rational views and thoughts, so, of what relevance is your presence here if all you have to offer is other people's opinions and non factual views that you yourself can not support with any sane and rational facts.?

If you are going to make claims, quote and debate other people, common sense dictates that you purvey your own personal views and assertions with credible facts.

Don't quote people or engage in any discussion if you have nothing sensible to contribute beyond other peoples baseless and ignorant opinion that doesn't jell with documented and historical facts.

Stop beating around the bush.
Just say you don't want to believe Tunde Bakare.
Nevertheless, it doesn't take anything from the fact.
Till today, nobody in the presidency is yet to fault him.

Well, it all balls down to trust. When the debate for fuel subsidy removal was on, the points made by SLS and NOI in support of subsidy removal were very clear to all, but the lackadaisical attitude of the government in going after the fraudsters led to the disapproval by the Nigerian masses.

And yeah, it was the Nigerian people that roundly rejected it then, not any particular cabal, Nigerians have always rejected and protested every single fuel price increase since as long as I can remember, so I don't see how the one of 2012 (almost a 100% increase) could have been any different, or the work of a cabal.

And what better way could GEJ have gone for the fraudsters than by removing the whole subsidy nonsense altogether

Had we allowed him, we would have overcome fuel crisis once and for all.

Of course APC borrowed more than PDP but giving the 16 vs 3 years is a sensational comparison to sway emotions. Firstly, as at 2008/2009, Nigeria was virtually free of debts and all the debts by PDP were only from 2009-2015. So if we must compare, it is actually 6 vs 3 years, not 16 vs 3 years.

And then if its analysed a little more critically, the only way to get out of a recession is to borrow and spend. As at late 2014 when oil prices was still up to $70, the finanxe ministry already predicted a major economic crisis and it stepped up borrowing to prevent a recession. We all know that by end 2015/start 2016, oil prices dropped further to $28, Nigeria's oil export also dropped by over 60% due to pipe bombings and in general, Nigeria's income dwindled by over 70-80% heralding the official recession in Q1 2016. Irrespective of the low income, Nigeria still had standard operational/recurrent expenses that needed to be met, salaries had to be paid, hospitals had to be run, armed forces had to be financed etc., and since there was virtually nothing in savings, borrowing was the only option.

So without much thought, I think it's quite clear to all why Nigeria had to borrow so much between 2015 and 2017. The question that really bogs my mind is why Nigeria had to borrow so much between 2009 and 2015 when oil sold for averages over $100, and when Nigeria received unprecedented high income.

@bolded
Yes the masses backed by the cabal wouldn't let GEJ completely remove subsidy - the largest single source of corruption in the country.

Maintaining pump price at N87/N97 made nonsense of whatever was the price of crude oil in the world market and what it should have profited us.

You don't seem to understand how capital intensive the power project is, building wind turbines that can can generate that much without building as adequate transmission power lines to evacuate what ever power that is generated is highly capital intensive

Don't quote me if you can not stay on topic or clearly articulate your own personal thoughts and positions instead of asking me to debate what other people are saying. I'm not debating other people and other people did not quote me, you did.

Stop spewing rubbish that you can not back up with your own sane and rational facts.

Don't be a goat!

I said I don't have time to start searching for links. I don't do such on Nairaland.

Rather, Tunde Bakare made the assertion and backed it up with figures and I saw it here on Nairaland.

Go and read my conversation with gavelslam.

Also read the opening post again to see Obasanjo's explanation of how the $16bn was spent.

I'm not admitting anything.

I'm simply saying OBJ could not have spent 16 billion dollars on electricity and if he did Jonathan could not have spent much more.

It's not like there was nothing before OBJ.

There was next to nothing before OBJ.

The current PHCN structure is his handiwork.

Fact!

It therefore means Jonathan probably spent nothing on same.

Power stations!
