Food that has vitamins to maintain the wear and tear of your body. If you are fat, try to lose weight. Regular exercise. Common sense things

C2H5OH. Good diet is all you need to keep your bones healthy. I assume you are an adult and your bones have fully grown?

Carine4, this is like an osce exam!! Medical joke smiley.
Only thing that shows up there is anaemia. Low haemoglobin. Most of this should have normal range for you to know what is abnormal and what is normal.
Not sure what the units for your alk phos is. I am used to IU/litre. Maybe one of the other docs is familiar with that unit.
Also blood results are interpreted for different people and different ages. Hope that helps a bit.

shadegirl, have I missed a previous posting. Also can't seem to follow what your question is or information you are after. I am going to assume you want to know about candida infection being a complication of HIV or other diseases where the patient is immunocompromised.

Hello psalty. I am sorry to hear about your disorder, trichotillomania. I am unsure trying to find the solution to your problem on line is the right way about it. My suggestion is to have a chat with your family doctor (general practitioner in uk) and get them to refer you to appropriate expert. It might require combination of medication and psychotherapy. I will leave that to the capable hands of your family doctor

Dr Kathy and Naijaking, October will probably be my next visit to your beautiful city. Let you know the dates. Probably stay a week. When confirmed, it would be my pleasure to take you great people out for dinner. We could put all the wrongs in the world to right over dinner smiley

Allycat on behalf of the docs here we have accepted sparta's apology and now yours. Lets move on with giving what we do here. Good medical advice. Dont forget people, we do this for free in our own spare time. Bear with us and as allycat said a bit of civility from those we give advice to.
As a little aside to cheer people up, I saw Dr Balogun mentioned in Chimamanda Adichie's new book. Brought smile to my face. Do you think she has been on nairaland and been posting with pseudonym grin

Well done naijaking. There is this fallacy about staph in semen. No matter how many times doctors tell people about the fact that it is a contamination from the skin, there are some charlatans out there that keep diagnosing this.
Sparta read the first line. It is a misdiagnosis. End of story!!!!

Fruitsteps, for IVF it usually depends on where you live in the UK and what your status is!! As you might know, there is an element of postcode lottery with IVF here. If you have to go privately, I would go on recommendation of your own General Practitioner. They should know the best clinics in your area

belovevin, I am a bit confused about what you mean by waist pain!! Any particular part of your waist. Do you mean groin pain. Anyway, you need to be slightly more specific
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 10:04pm On Apr 20, 2009
ilovekezi, you have done the right thing in putting your problem to Dr Kathy. She will be best with answering your query

jovlar1979, there is very little to worry about. The old fashioned natural absorbable sutures such as catgut tend not to used often now. Dexon and other types of new absorbable sutures generally don't cause problems and they maintain their strength

Megastu, glad your daughter is better. They probably thought a lipoma!! With immunization you can get sterile (non infective) abscess. We try our best to help here
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 10:40pm On Apr 10, 2009
angee4real, my advice is to wait for Dr Kathy to give you honest medical and gynaecological reply. carnal as a matter of interest do you have any medical qualifications!!
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 9:55pm On Apr 07, 2009
Angee4real, I am unsure where your staphylococcus infection is affecting. I must assume from talks of infertility it is a gynaecological problem. I would advice you to pose your problem to Dr Kathy on the ObGyn thread. Try and be clearer though as would make it easier to reply
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 9:50pm On Apr 07, 2009
Megastu, sorry to hear about your 11 month old. Following immunization some people may develop a small swelling. Generally this tends to settle by itself. It could however become an abscess which might need drainage. How long has the swelling been there for and is your child symptomatic, that is, is she unwell with it. Ultrasound might help to see what it is and treated appropriately. Let us know how she gets on.

By the way Dr Kathy, I just spent a long weekend in your fair city there. Stayed on one of the hotels on 8th Avenue. Did all the tourist stuff. Totally jet lagged now. Was great fun though. Even went to Staten Island using the ferry from Battery Park. Next time probably stay a full week or two

Evy, you have to be patient. Us doctors on this site do this in our precious spare time. I am sure Dr Kathy will get to answer your query soon. We read your problems and sometimes need thinking time to give you best advice. I am sure she will answer your query soon.

Hi Naijaking. Didn't know you were in NYC. Just spent a weekend there. Did my tourist things. Mainly on Manhattan Island and Staten. Worried about going outside of Manhattan. Is it as dangerous as we hear on the news!!! A bit disappointed about the Earth hour on saturday night. They only switched off 2 things on Times Square. Keep up good work on this site

Couldn't resist it Kathy. Was checking out kiva.org as you suggested. Is it kosher!! Would my details be safe with them if I donated. I have heard of such things. So much easier to donate if you can give cash or pay at bank without divulging all your details on the internet
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 1:31am On Mar 03, 2009
I am sure I have answered this before!!!
Benefits 1. You dont have to get washed or dressed up for it
2. You dont have to take it to dinner
3. You dont have to make small talk for your sexual gratification
List is endless
Against 1. All what you mama told you about masturbation is true cool!!!!
Sports / Re: India Vs Nigeria: 99-1. Abeg Who Watch Am! by Balogun(m): 1:21pm On Feb 15, 2009
May I point out to most of you the story could be true!! I see gasps from everyone there. During the British rule in Nigeria, the Indian nation had already got their independence and some Indians would have been working in Nigeria. The Indians collected 11 players and Nigeria had 11 players. They played a game of cricket!!!! At close of play India were 99-1. That is 99 for the loss of 1 wicket. I could see how the ignorant press at the time would have put in the papers 99-1 to India. Most stories have easy explanations. End of thread.

Chriss2 you probably have wax in your ear. See nurse in your practice or your doctor. They would recommend drops to soften and dissolve the wax
Health / Re: Doctor in the House: Free Medical Advice Available by Balogun(m): 12:44am On Jan 23, 2009
Just like naijaking said the likelihood is that you have haemorrhoids. Not all haemorrhoids bleed. They sometimes thrombose, which means the blood in them hardens and gradually get smaller. As this causes pain, it discourages you from going to the toilet. This in turn makes you constipated. The constipation causes you to strain which makes it painful to move your bowels, causing you more constipation. And you go round in a vicious cycle. Hope I dont need to describe it in vivid detail!!! Good fibre diet softens the stools and means you dont need to strain

I would advice the moderator to remove enurayce post. There is very little fact in it. Kathyekiti has been doing a good job here and such a post is not welcome here!!
Health / Re: Hazards Of Obesity by Balogun(m): 10:25pm On Jan 18, 2009
Enurayce, I am not sure where you lifted the above article from, but most of it is rubbish. You are quite ignorant of the physiology, biochemistry and anatomy of the human body. I would advice you not to peddle any of this rubbish.
For those of you that are overweight, it is important to get advice from your physician or dietitian

Hi kathyekiti. There must be a whole load of excitement in America at the moment with Obama. Makes us all realise with extra work and luck we can all make it to the top. From the advice you and naijaking give here I am sure you are at the top of your professions. Me, I am sticking now to lecturing med students and junior doctors
