Big bumper. There are inhalers designed for children. You cant force this thing on them. They have a wider opening so when you place over their face, they get a certain amount of the medication. Bad technique and wrong inhaler is reason why a lot of people present to their physician with un controlled asthma

I would like to say it will make him go blind!!! Just habit forming. Better than visiting a prostitute. He doesn't have to dress up to masturbate and wont cost him money or his life

@isaacayomi. You need to find what the cuase of the discharge is first before you start to treat it. You are right in that if it is infective, both of you need treatment together. Suggest condoms when treatment is going on.

@tianshie. Make sure it was warts that has been treated with cryotherapy. Warts are usually viral in nature. The body should develop its own antibodies to this with time

1k001. Its nice to see a potential graduate from Dublin. I qualified from RCSI at St Stephen's Green sometime ago. Our hospitals were Richmond and Jervis St in those days. I did my house jobs in Edinburgh and Guildford. Assume being none EU for you would mean having to sit the PLAB on this side. My advice is to maximise your opportunities by sitting the American exam. The NHS is going down the pan here. I have a daughter in 3rd year med at Edinburgh. I would advice her the same although she is British.

Car Talk / Re: How Reliable Are BMW Cars? by Balogun(m): 9:54pm On Dec 05, 2006
BMW. Owned one from brand new. Trouble all the way. Looks good. Great to drive. But trouble. Cost an absolute fortune to run. Bought a new car for the cost of running the BMW in one year. My trouble was so bad I got £7000 back off BMW for the amount it cost me to maintain the car during the trouble period. Get a VW or Opel/Vauxhall. Last a long time and doesn't cost too much to run

Joshsy, you need to be patient with the replies you get from the docs. We are not permanently on line. One of us will reply your different queries.
Metridim, biological control of disease vectors is best read in the appropriate textbooks.
Alexitotee, most problems with premature ejaculation is to do with control and your being comfortable with who you are with. Mostly is all psychological and needs to be discussed with the two parties.
Gentleone, most of us get twitches sometimes in the upper eyelid. Unless it is something regular or permanent I wouldn't worry too much.

Welcome to the forum ajolayo. The nairalanders ask medical questions and several of us doctors try and give them answers. There is me, nicetohave and skidoc. I have not heard from nicetohave in a long time. He gives excellent advice. You are more than welcome to contribute. My interest is emergency medicine with interest in hand surgery. We have some medical students that ask for professional advice.

noble2007. we need to know what the cause of the ulcer is before you worry about alternative therapy. do you use non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs, are you a smoker, do you drink alcohol, tea, coffee, carbonated drinks. Is it an infection caused by helicobacter pylori. we take the holistic approach before we suggest therapy. If you are guilty of any of the above excesses, you need to stop. Let me know more about your life style

Lovely hospital the Northern General Hospital. Worked there many years ago in transplant surgery, general surgery and orthopaedics. You are definitely priviledged to be doing your elective period there. Good luck with your final year

sorry about that dominobaby. We are all different in out make up. Veins are usually subcutaneous, that is, below skin level. People with too much fat will not have veins show up more. The hotter you are, the more likely your veins will dilate. If you have blocked return of the blood back to the heart, again the veins will be prominent. Doctors put a tourniquet in your forearm or arm to make the veins stand up so they can take blood or insert a cannula. Hope that answers your question

kitaun. Your friend needs to see an Ear Nose and Throat surgeon. Remind him that anything smaller than your fist never goes in your ear. Cotton buds burst ears drums, they scratch the passage between the ear and the eardrum and cause infections.
charlo. See my previous posting on back pains. See a physiotherapist first and if that doesn't work, get investigations to make sure it is not something serious. A CT scan or MRI scan preferably. Xrays dont usually show anything except fractures!!!

esoneek. I am glad you have reached those dizzy heights of final year in medical school. If you have done your paediatrics you will know my good friend Afolabi Lesi. We were classmates at school in Dublin. I trained in Dublin. Unfortunately Nigeria has wasted too much money on things that dont make us grow old gracefully. I believe if they pay their well trained doctors, nurses, teachers and other professionals well, the country will be one of the best in the world. I am sure I am preaching to the converted. Without sounding mercenary my loyality lies with who can afford me

st1. sometimes when you move you bowels and there is a small amount of blood, it usually looks a lot when it mixes with water in the bowl. I need to know how old you are and whether this was fresh blood or old blood. This conversation might not be everybodies taste so you might want send me a private e mail!
sisisisi. I am trying to imagine the black spots on your wrists. Unless I see a photograph of it, it is difficult to give you any idea of what it might be. Sorry can't help with that. Your personal physician would be better help

mamasula/catherine. The more I read about your symptoms and family history, the more I feel your doctor should refer you to an endocrinologist. What your current TSH and T4 level might be abnormal for you. It still sounds like you are hypothyroid to me. If I think of any other diagnosis I will let you know. My belief is common things are common!

Blackhope, thanks for the enquiry and possible debate you could start. I did my training in the UK, so my knowledge of sickle cell is what I have read in the books and minimal amount of patients I have dealt with. I have done some search about nicosan/niprisan. These drugs developed in Nigeria are going through the different phases of development. Some of the figures I have seen, I am not wholely certain of the statistical significance. It has however been given orphan drug status in the EU. This means it is expensive to develop or not profitable. It is considered in this end of the world to be a rare disease!!!

Theopops, sorry I never got back with your answer. I need more information like is this girl on any type of contraception. What is her general health. Is she anorexic. There so many reasons to have a small flow of the period. There must be a gynaecologist in the house. Nigerian doctors in the UK make the best obstetrician/gynaecologist

mamasula/catherine. I would get your doctor to check your thyroid levels. You might have low thyroid level called hypothyroidism. This is easily treatable by thyroxine tablets. Important to check the thyroid function tests before treatment

Treatment for arthritis depends whether it is rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis. It usually starts with what are simple analgesia like paracetamol when bad. As time goes on you might want to add non steroidal antiinflammatory drugs assuming you dont have any contraindications to taking them. The next level might start needing a rheumatologist input. Which type of arthritis do you have and what level are you

Thank you very much for the support. You can never please everyone all the time. Drinking plenty fluids is ideal. Eating adequate amount of fibre is also good. The less constipated you are the less you strain. If all fails, you doctor might recommend banding of the piles. Thats further down the line

Eurphoria, having looked through this forum. Most advice given is generalized advice. Some people send personal e mails when they want further advice. I am sorry you feel this way about this forum. My advice for you is to keep out of it and seek medical advice from your own private physician. You are not forced to partake in this!!! Last post on this to you

Whytee. Growths in back of hand can be easily removed under local anaesthetic and sent for histology. Important that whoever removes it clears the full margin.
Wumine. Depending on where you live and what your family history is. Cervical smears are the only regular check up done by doctors for women and you should examine your own breasts for unusual lumps regularly. Men are meant to examine their testes every month or so. Most men do this subconsciously everyday!!!

Back pain. One of those bug bears in the life of doctors. Most back pains are due to musculoligamentous problems. This means all you need is adequate pain relief. It is a vicious cycle. The pain causes spasm and the spasm causes more pain and it goes on. When it gets bad you might require muscle relaxant like diazepam in addition. In summary codeine/paracetamol complex, anti inflammatory like Ibuprofen/Diclofenac and diazepam if there is spasm. The only time a doctor needs to be involved is if you have difficulty with passing urine or moving bowels. Physiotherapy also helps

I quite like the new way of spelling pneumonia! smiley This very much depends on the cause of your pneumonia. If it is a bacterial cause, the most common, then the treatment is with the appropriate antibiotics. Most respond to penicillins and cephalosporins. Off course in this day and age of viral infections like HIV you might need antivirals in addition. As pneumonia causes a lot of fever, dehydration is one of the main problem and also need to keep your body ticking with appropriate calories. Worst type of pneumonia might need physiotherapy/oxygen therapy (those are the ones that need hospital admissions)

Small penis is a genetic problem. Weak erection might be due to lack of proper stimulation. Do you get weak erection when you masturbate. Weak erection can be treated with quite a few things. This includes sildenafil or any of the phosphodiesterase type 5 inhibitors. Premature ejaculation is an age old problem. This is all psychological. You need to make sure your partner and you are in control of your heightened stimulation. Avoid alcohol. Have a sympathetic partner that loves you

Onitcha, we are all different in life. Some people are tall, some are short, some have big joysticks, some have not so big joysticks. It is not what you have, it is how you use it. The average male size is about 6". I wouldn't go for any of the traditional doctors. There is nothing they can do. There are some surgical interventions that are expensive. There is the release of a ligament at the base of the penis and introducing some of the fatty tissue from the body that has blood supply around the shaft of penis. Too complex and not worth the stress.
