Properties / Re: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by BAMOFIN1: 10:06am On Feb 29
Hello people, I am erecting a building which is now to proceed to plastering, tilling and flooring of compound. Because of the more 100% increase in cement price I have stopped further work in the hope that cement price will come down. I need opinions of builders here whether they think or have information on if the price of cement will drop now that payment portals of cement manufacturers are re-opened or should I find means to buy at current price. Thanks.

You are forcing me to reveal my brand.

Well I use Eastman tubular batteries.

Genus is equally very good.

The high end ones like Luminous and Sukam are superb but their cost is prohibitive.
I appreciate. I will research both. Thanks.

[quote author=nikaShow post=128516322]I used the Mtn Lumos inverter for 5 years. Powers all the bulbs in my house , charges my phones and laptops , charges a rechargeable standing fan.

Paid it off and still using it 4 years later. Total of 9 years it has served me now.

Never touched it, no fault at all.

One of my best investments.

I now have added a Bona solar freezer and its complete setup. Solar freezer works with only one battery but 3 solar panels.

I bought an inverter to switch from the freezer to light when everything in the freezer is ice block but the inverter almost always broke down so I just removed it completely.

Leaving the freezer on the one battery alone , 2 years running now and everything for my freezer na ice block.

I am still on grid, but I only use Nepa for Washing Machine, Blender and Microwave. I outsource my ironing to dry cleaner.

I have never owned a Generator.

@nikashow pls what is the brand/name of that red battery you have used for 2 years ?

Most Indian brands should do.

They are mostly produced from the same source. It's Nigerians that give them the multiplicity of names you see in the market.
Thanks but I would have loved you, as an experienced user, to mention a brand or two based on your experience.

It's splendid!

I use a 3.5kva 12v kartel inverter and 4 220AH tubular batteries I connected in parallel to make 880AH.

I power virtually every thing in the house including an lg inverter AC for most of the afternoons , an lg inverter fridge/freezer and a bona solar chest freezer.

I've been fully off grid for going to 6 years by May and I don't have any regrets at all.

The installation was done DIY with little touch by my electrician.

Please which tubular battery brand do you use and how long can one hope to it? Also which brand do you know to be good and yet is not too costly?

We are back!

We hope this insightful conversation with Mr. Arnold Dublin-Green (Chief Investment Officer, Cordros Asset Management) makes up for our absence.

We discuss "The Past, Present and Future of Fixed income Vs Equities investing". He delves deep into how retail investors can structure their portfolio to harness the possible coming shift, mistakes retail investors make and how asking yourself, "what is in my hands?" can shape your investing practice/ world view.

Thanks for listening...

Dr. Awo, welcome back Sir. Please is there a way to download these interviews on my phone so I can listen to them offline and also have them permanently. There is a similar audio cast on YouTube called 'Chat with Traders' that one can download as a audio file. Thanks for the efforts from which I have learned a lot.

@Emmansoft, @Customstreet, @Mcy2 Please I already have stock account with Morgan Capital which I have found to be very okay.To diversify I want to open a second stock account with another low fees broker that also allows its clients direct live access to the trading floor, comparable to that of Morgan. My research on this thread pinpointed Stanbic brokers because of its relative low fees but going by the discussion here at page 6967 between BabsO2 and Omoeko to the effect that they monitor their orders to Stanbic through the portal of other stockbrokers, I now hesitate to go with Stanbic. Please which is the stockbroker whose fees is low and at the same gives investors direct access to the market like the Morgan's platform? My need is a broker with low fees (I do jijo) a platform with direct view of current market bids, offers and volume on real time basis. Suggestions are welcomed and I will do my due diligence before choosing. Thanks.
Thanks to @ymcy56, @1Kinhgy and @emmansoft for your responses.

Can people please give opinion on XVS Venus. It dropped from ath of $140 in April to as low as $14 last week which is 90% fall and it now hovers around $17. I dca into it at prices between $65-$30 cos its supply is not much, does burning at interval and seems to have respectable administrators. But in the last month and half it always fall more than other alts and never recovers when others are recovering. It is difficult to know the truth of what is happening to the coin from its telegram group because members are not allowed to express their views freely. I will like advice from those familiar with the coin. Should I cut my loss now (about 80%) and use the proceed to buy other serious coin or is there light at the end of the tunnel?

Please what determines the price of us-dt at bi-na-ce p2p market? Is my observation that the price rises whenever there is dump of betecee. Also is it cheaper to buy us-dt after midnight?. Secondly, does us-dt and other stables really keep their value even if the market crashed as it did in 2017? I will appreciate responses from old hands. Thanks

@longlife, @samguru please do have any info indicating that NPFMCRFBK will NOT pay dividend for 2020 year end? I read thorough above report and there is a confusing sentence that the management has not recommended payment of 20k dividend. At page 52 the report states: 'The Board of Directors, pursuant to the powers vested in it by the provisions of Section 379 of the Companies and Allied Matters Act of Nigeria
(CAMA), 2020, has not proposed a final dividend of 20 kobo per share (31 December 2019: final; 20 kobo) from the retained earnings account
as at 31 December 2020. This is subject to approval by shareholders at the next Annual General Meeting'. Am I misreading?

@ Lion123, @feelamong I have just concluded an extensive research on Cryptos and bitcoin in particular and have resolved to buy some bitcoin and maybe some etherum to hold as buffer against Naira devaluation. At this stage I need guidance of Nsempa members that have diversified into Cryptos on a)whether to wait for bitcoin to pullback before entering or it is better to enter right away. b) from point of view of capital preservation and possibly appreciation is it better to buy bitcoin or etherum? c) which is the best exchange/app to use in buying Cryptos in Nigeria when the aim is not to trade, regarding safety, ease of withdrawal and low fees and d) If a trade fails is it that the exchange already know my Cryptos code for the brief period they have it in escrow? I am sorry to bring Cryptos questions to this thread but I know this is where I can get unbiased answers. Responses I got from other forums were from those trying to market their link and were not objective. Thanks

On November 11th I posted the above and few days after that post the market went down. MCY56 came out to reprimand me for advising people to trade with caution, even though I never mentioned her in my post. But I ignored.

When the market is on a bullish run all of us can claim to be experts but it's always sure that at some point water will find its level.

Nothing beats what I call Commonsense investing by using the EPS ,the Dividend yield and stock Liquidity as your basic insurance against an unexpected downturn in the market contrary to what some have been saying here. When you start valuing Nigerian stocks using standards that are beyond these Commonsense metrics you are already playing Russian roulette. This is not NYSE, this is Nigeria home of possibilities and shocks.

For those who bought high during the bull convert those investment to long term assets, it's a cycle the market will go up at some point. If you bought dividend paying stocks that's better.
You are so right Sir. From the moment I started relying on these factors you mentioned I have always made profits from NSE. Thanks for putting it so succinctly. I need only add that one should also know that the market is cyclical so there is need to enter low, even if you have to wait months before buying.

We usually leave very little stocks like 5 shares or less when we sell our holdings in a company to avoid having to process E-mandate all over again when we reenter. I have observed that when small dividends , say N5, is credited to your bank account, the transaction charge deducted is usually more than the dividend paid, and you get a balance less than you had before the dividend. Has anyone a solution to this problem?

If I had seen this thread earlier, I'd have cautioned you travelling to Uyo via road. You probably should have taken a boat from Creek Town to Oron and use the road to Uyo. Due to the deplorable road situation, it's shorter. People have spent more than five hours on that Calabar - Uyo Road. Five years ago, the trip took not more than two hours and not more than an hour seven years ago (circa 30 - 45 mins).

@Gerrard59 I served in Uyo many many years ago and I have always wanted to revisit. Activated by this thread I have just booked ticket to arrive calabar airport later this week. My plan is to explore calabar for two days and then move to Uyo for two or three days. I find your suggestion of travelling by ferry from creek town via Oron to Uyo very attractive. Can you help find out and give more detail especially direction on how to get to the ferry loading point and how safe the ferry ride is. Awaiting your reply. Cheers

What is your background? What type of business have you done in the past? Why did you buy the property or how did you buy the property?

What is the source of the fund used in buying the property? What is the current condition of the property? Is the property currently generating any cash flow? How long have you bought this property?

Your answers to these questions will determine the type of counsel I can give you.

Sir emmanuelewumi, I thank you for the response. I am semi-retired from the professions and have no practical business experience except for completion of a course in mini importation which shows me I will not be able to cope with importation, hence I am looking for alternative storage based business to put the warehouse.
