Education / Re: Does First Class Degree Guarantee One A Job? by Barney001: 7:07pm On May 10, 2020
ModestGal:

Thats one of the mistake I made in my life and still regretting it till now. First class is a waste of time and thoughts. If you are connected, not an introvert, then you have a chance, if you are not, please I beg you, while in university, concentrate on things you can do that would bring you money and make you happy in life. Just make sure you don't go below second class upper.
Nigeria is a failed country.
I wish I did this when I was in the university, I was busy making sure I was doing well in academics, I also registered for a 4years Arabic course which I finished. I wish I knew my advisors were merely myopic, I wish I had concentrated my energy on learning TECH skills.
I wish I had used my school fees to purchase Tech equipment and learn the skills, some of us fall into the category of bad advice. I regret the day I saw my result and it was full of A's in 100level first semester, that was my motivation and every body started telling me I would made a first class up and down, and telling me not to relent. I wish I had relented, but I was stupid to keep pursuing nonsense
Hmm...

But why would you study Arabic course... cuz I don't understand oo

Didn't you see other courses like engineering, law or even medicine... Or was it a parent factor that made you do it... ?

Cuz I think that course is pretty useless in Nigeria ...even abroad sef...Wetin you want use am do undecided

Webscraping is used for research purpose, web indexing, web mining and data mining, online price change monitoring and price comparison, product review scraping (to watch the competition), gathering real estate listings, weather data monitoring, website change detection, research, tracking online presence and reputation, web mashup and, web data integration.

It depends on what you want to achieve, you need divers techniques and tools
Yes I know... But I was asking about the future of webscraping in Nigeria....

It seems the demand is not really here at all...

Data science is not as easy as it seems. You need a degree to even be considered for employment abroad. Also, it's not just python skills you need. You have to learn Excel, Tableau, SQL etc. And also, a strong mathematics and statistics background. Choose what comes easy to you, not what sounds fancy and trendy, so you don't get frustrated. Life is short.

Django is about backend web development. Anyway, you do you. Lol.
You made a lot of sense bro..

Well like I said before... I'm not sure of which one I want to venture in...

Still on python basics....

Maybe when I'm done with that... I'll know which is right for me

You seem to know a lot about data science tho undecided

You know... webscraping,data science....

I'm still thinking whether to go into django... The whole python application stuff is just wide... So I don't have any major for now...

Programming / The Future Of Web Scraping by Barney001: 8:32pm On May 09, 2020
Hi guys,

So I was checking out on of the major applications of python and I found webscraping.

Has anyone ventured into webscraping here or knows about the demand of webscraping in Nigeria?

Saw a lot of jobs on upwork about webscraping but I want to know if the demand here is hot....

I just finished learning the basics of programming and I'm at the place where I have to decide which niche to specialize in. So I've been doing a lot of research. I initially considered web development, but my findings are not encouraging.

Web development is not the hot cake anymore. Nowadays, with the availability of templates and CMS like WordPress, websites can be built in a few hours by literally anyone with a little technical skill. It's basically a drag and drop process.

Freelance platforms has been saturated by people charging cheap prices to develop websites. Clients are not willing to pay more and rightly so. It is discouraging and not worth the time and effort needed to learn all the HTML, CSS, JavaScript and the backend. Why waste time and effort when I can just get templates and WordPress, Wix or Joomola.

I think I'll have to consider native mobile development, data visualization and analysis, or enterprise software development.

Do you think I'm wrong? Or do you know any lucrative web development niche? Please let me know in the comments section. Thanks.

Lalasticlala.
Which language did you use to learn programming.

Programming / Re: Share Your Road map To Becoming A Web Developer. by Barney001: 5:30am On May 03, 2020
Taofeekdboy:
To get started, I am a Graphic Designer and was tired of doing one skill, I venture into programming.

I started learning Python which took me 3 weeks to master all the basics, then I was like is that all?. I made a research on mobile development and web development, opted for web development, decided to go for Django because of its heavyweight and full stack development over flask. Well it has been 6 months of learning Django, the learning curve gets deeper everyday and have built alot of projects with Django such as; functional blogs, Super Heros websites I built for my company, colleague management system I built for my company as well.

In between, I was learning Javascript, mastered the basics within a week because of my Python knowledge, I started learning React, I built some websites with Django as my backend, React as my frontend, apps like where you can search for player and team details in the world.

My Learning Curve
Python(Advance python)
Django
JavaScript
React
Angular(little knowledge)
Java(intermediate)

Right now, I am working on an ecommerce website integrated with stripe payment, music app with React and Django.
It was not that easy combining all of this with my job but dedication, passion have made it possible.

All courses I took are from Udemy and Mosh Hamedani, the latter is a guru and a good mentor.

Wow...you've done things ooo

Do you have that mosh hamedani video.... The complete one?

I've only watched the 6hrs video that he made on YouTube...there seems to be more

Programming / Re: Which One Is Better: Python Django Or Php? by Barney001: 8:41am On Apr 25, 2020

I am a self taught developer who started with python and ever since then I have been working on a lot of its framework, its syntax is straightforward and it's basic is simple to understand as well. You can give it a try and you won't regret you did.
Thanks man
Programming / Re: Which One Is Better: Python Django Or Php? by Barney001: 8:33am On Apr 25, 2020
LSarcastic:
First of all, you shouldn't compare Django and PHP. One is a Python-based framework while the other is a language. Comparing them is like comparing apples and baskets. So I'll assume you mean, Django VS a PHP based framework(let's use laravel).
Secondly, I'm a Python guy and I would say that no one is better than the other. They both have their pitfalls and strengths. Django has a steep learning curve while laravel is easier to grasp since you could already build your website with plain PHP.

- In terms of speed, Django takes the lead(In real life, language does not determine speed, the architecture of your code does)
- In terms of speed in getting your web app up and running, Django takes the lead
- In terms of Job opportunities in Nigeria for the web, PHP takes the lead
- In terms of startups, Django takes the lead
- In terms of community support in Nigeria, PHP takes the lead(This is very important)
- In terms of cost to set up, PHP is cheaper. I hosted my Django web app https://www.bonychicken.com with roughly 25,000 naira when using PHP would cost me a little over 7,000. I just needed Python's ML capabilities.
- In terms of future relevance, Django would do. Python is really gaining ground fast in Nigeria.
- In terms of versatility, Django is better, Python is general purpose so...

So, I'd say it depends on:
- What you want to build. If you're building something that will require Machine learning and dealing with data, use Django.
- If you just want a web developer job, learn PHP
- If you want to be popular, learn Django
- If you're bored, learn Django
Okay...yeah I saw my mistake ...its laravel and django I was supposed to compare...

Guess I'll continue with python then....

You said you were a python guy...Hope you don't mind me asking...if you work as a freelancer or for an IT company in nigeria?

Damn...I just checked your website and I must say you're good...like really good...
If that was all django then ...I'm all for it

They are both good.
Facebook uses Php, Instagram uses python.

Choose the one you're most comfortable with.

I'd choose python tho, cos of it's simplicity and also, your can use python for other awesome projects e.g Machine learning, normal scripting .......
Thanks...

it depends on what u want, if u want a job in Nigeria or u want to freelance with ur programming skills, then go for php, but if u want long time investment, skills that will not fade out soon and u also want to be versatile then I will advice to choose python.
Python and JavaScript's will not fade out in next 10yrs
Uhh...does that mean python is not really in demand in Nigeria?
