Dsimmer:

Who doesn't know Edo are Yoruba mixed? Take Obaseki name for example. It's a Yoruba name. Oshiomole is a Yoruba name.

Okpe is a Yoruba name. Esan is a Yoruba name. Owan is a Yoruba name. Etsako is a Yoruba name. In fact, Edo as a whole speak a mix of Yoruba and Bini.

Bini king is from Oranmiyan ancestry. In fact, Oranmiyan entourages and chiefs were those who founded other towns in Edo. Owan still celebrate Oranmiyan festival till now.

Obaseki, Oshiomole Esan, Owan, Etsako are all Edo words. Do not misinform people

By the way what do Obasohan, Bazuaye, and Ize-Iyamu mean?

Obasohan, Bazuaye and Ize-Iyamu are big and illustrious families in Benin.

He is saying he has filial ties with those families, from his mother's side

The political forces in Edo will interplay and interface to produce the next Governor of Edo state.
Even as an incumbent, Oshiomhole is less than 5% of those forces. Oshiomhole is too small to unilaterally decide who becomes my Governor.

This is not a recent picture, it was taken immediately after the incident, the man on the right is a FAAN top official.

The Governor did enrol him in one of the best government schools in Benin: Edo college, but last I heard, the boy dropped out and is back in the street.

He might really be 15 today, but I sincerely doubt if the Governor still knows his whereabout.

This is probably a move to stop merger politicians and their likely-converts from congregating on board to strategize for 2015. Smart but retrogressive.

Politics / Re: Am Not Leaving PDP - Rotimi Amaechi by Baro(m): 11:27am On Apr 12, 2013
Speaking on the rumour that he was set to leave the PDP, Governor Amaechi said “I am still in the PDP.I am a member of the PDP. PDP is the only national party in the country for now. Why will one want to leave a national party and go to another party?” he queried.

Read the bolded, you will see it's a smart conditional statement, and i think the topic should reflect same; i.e I AM NOT LEAVING PDP FOR NOW. He kind of tied his membership of PDP to it's 'exclusive' national coverage, so what happens when another national party emerges, did i hear you say APC? Your guess is as good as mine.

These guys should please stop misquoting the Benin Monarch. Inasmuch as he will wish the Comrade Governor to continue in office, due to his massive infrastructural development and urban renewal drive, the Oba did not say the above headline on the said visit, instead he urged Oshiomhole to finish all on going projects(especially airport road) because they were beginning to take too much time.

Sports / Re: Nigeria Vs Ghana (3 - 1) On Saturday 25th June @ 4pm (All Africa Games 2011 Qualifier) by Baro(m): 9:45pm On Jun 25, 2011
I was opportuned to watch the 2nd half of the match live at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. Here are my observations.

Goalkeeping - - - -Nigeria
Defense - - -  -- - -Nigeria
Midfield - - - - - - - Ghana
Attacking moves - Nigeria
Finishing - - - - - - -Ghana

I will expatiate . .

Dele Ajiboye has the hallmark of a good goalkeeper; confidence, which his Ghanian counterpart lacked. He is got sharp reflexes too, i saw him make more than 2 one-on-one saves., and am cocksure, he was only replicating what he did in the first half.

The height and alertness of our central defenders was a great source of relief, as aerial balls didn't pose any threat. Although their marking was a bit suspect, but they made up with the former.

The Black Meteors overran our midfield, our marking was very poor, there was no ball winner in the midfield. I wonder what the blocking '4'
was doing, most of the balls won, was by the defence, and most of our attacking moves, came via the flanks, or from long balls from the defenders.

Nosa Igiebor who donned the no '10' shirt had a good game; unarguably a man of the match performance. He played with alot of composure and swag, holding on to the ball, and making sure passes, dribbles and moves. He was also the least wasteful in the attack. And i particularly liked the way he celebrated his second goal; don't ask me how or why . .lol.

Should i say it wasn't Odion Ighalo's day, as his precision on goal was defective, and he didn't show much class. I was told he missed the best chance of the game in the 1st half . . .Until when he was substituted, i didn't know it was the Naija media-friendly Granada star who was in the number '9' jersey.

Nnamdi Oduamadi
; the dreadlocked Nigerian player who wore the '11' jersey, is extremely skillful with alot of deft touches, and he cuts into the opponents defence with ease and dashing pace. But he doesn't mark at all, that made us lack attacking momentum on the outside left, because he just stands by the line waiting for passes. however he always delivered when they came.

Ekigho Ehiosun is a very good player; a workhaholic and forceful 'tsunamic 'striker, but he should learn to use his team mates when necessary. Guy. you can make a goal and not be the scorer. He single-handedly made 2 goals before my eyes, but lost both to the chagrin of fans, because he wanted to be the maker and the scorer.

The Ghanians were better on ground, while we were better on air. The Ghanians were fitter and had better team cohesion, whereas the Dream Team were more tactical and determined to win; they had that 'we-go-win spirit'.

Officiating was very fair.

On the whole, it was a match filled with highlights, as both teams gave good account of themselves keeping fans on the edge of their seats and on the tip of their toes . .However the climax of the day came, when Governor Oshiomhole
who watched the game from the state-box, came down to the tartan tracks and took an unexpected sprint round the stadium to thank jubilant fans, who in turn cheered excitingly, turning the stadium into a carnival of some sort. The victorious Dream team later joined the governor in the thank you lap with just 400 metres to finish point. And so the celebrations began!

Politics / Ex-gov Igbinedion Booed by Football Fans At Ogbe Stadium by Baro(m): 1:27pm On Jun 21, 2011
According to William Shakespeare, the evil that men do lives after them. That indication manifested yesterday when football fans booed former Governor of Edo State, Lucky Igbinedion and rained abusive words on him during the London 2012 Olympic Games qualifying match between Nigeria’s U-23 Eagles and Tanzania.

Igbinedion, who was among the dignitaries that watched the match, which Nigeria won 3-0, was booed immediately his presence was announced to the spectators at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, Edo state, Nigeria.

The fans were irked because during his tenure as governor of the state, the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, venue of the match, was in a deplorable state, forcing the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, to blacklist it from the stadia hosting matches of the national teams.

The fans unanimously chorused ole! Ole!! Ole!!! and called Igbinedion some unprintable names while the booing lasted.

As if that was not enough, one of the fans even jumped into the VIP area, where Igbinedion was seated with other dignitaries and rained curses on him.

As the ugly scene continued, P.M Sports sampled the opinion of the angry fans. One of them, Omosuyi Apeyi, said the former governor should be ashamed of himself, “because during the governor’s tenure, we football fans were denied the opportunity of watching our football stars live.

“And if not for our sports loving governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, who refurbished this stadium, we wouldn’t have had the privilege of seeing any of our darling teams and their players.”

Another fan, who claimed that he travelled all the way from Delta State to watch the Olympic qualifying match between Nigeria and Tanzania, said the former governor deserves more than the booing he got from the fans.

Igeniwari Emokpor, another football supporter queried the rationale behind Igbinedion’s decision to come and watch the match at a stadium he allegedly abandoned during his era as governor of the state.

According to Emokpor; “the booing was not enough, we would have mobbed him. He should thank the security operatives and the maturity of some of us. We would have mobilized the fans to lynch him”.
