Very simple the person who wants to pay £30 Million for him.

But Awaziem and Omeruo playing in dead Segunda division and obscurity of Croatia are great.

Players and valuation these are chalk and cheese. We've seen players valued at 100M not worth anyway near it.
I guarantee you, Brighton are looking at Bassey's profile and not performance. This was the exact Reson MJ wasn't a first draft NBA pick. You claim to be a scout so you should understand what I'm saying.

Awaziem and Omeruo aren't in this discussion. They have their career trajectory and as native Africans, they have done relatively well for themselves. They have both been in the books of Porto and Chelsea. Played at the highest level in Spain and France. I don't really know what you have against them.

Swear to God that you watched one Ajax game this past season? Did you watch them against Liverpool? Did you know Bassey got more than 10 match of the man award this past season?
I watched all Ajax game that Bassey started. Timber was more at fault for goals conceded by Ajax than Bassey but the fans always turn on him cos they spent 28 million on him., therefore they expect him to stop all the balls from going in which is not humanly possible. Yes, he do make mistake sometimes but who doesn't.
The Ajax team Bassey met was in disarray. The midfielders were some of the worst set of players in Ajax history. Bobbery, Tadic and this Tottenham guy were also struggling in attack. It got to a time that the coach had to play Kudus their best midfileder as a 9. Whenever Kudus start in midfield Bassey plays better cos Kudus can hold the ball and carry it forward.

Ask yourself why Brighton wants both Kudus and Bassey together?
Watch ball and stop displaying your silly ignorance here!

This tweet explains it better
You watch every Ajax game and you don't know Bassey isn't so good in possession and playing out from the back, a system Ajax is renouned for?
Did you watch Vermalean and Vertogen back in Ajax to understand the football IQ Ajax required from their CB?
Even for the Super Eagles, he struggled to do the basics against Ghana. At a point he couldn't even trap the ball, he was promptly yanked off. People like you blamed the pitch and weather(night game). A country like Nigeria cannot have a defender at Ajax and he's not the first name on the team sheet. But what do we have?

and do I seem like one who hype players unnecessarily? Bassey did enough to merit he’s move to ajax just that it didn’t work out as expected

You fail to put into consideration that it takes some players time to adapt to new environment while others adapts faster

I am a kin follower of Ajax and watch their matches via espn and I must tell you that Ajax team of last season was trash. No player was exceptional unless maybe kudus to an extend

Bassey from the games I saw him play for Ajax wasn’t as bad as the Dutch media painted him maybe because of the price they bought him. I believe u saw him against Liverpool and Napoli in the ucl

Also for De Zerbi to go for him it implies that he has potentials that still need to be worked on

Technique or whatsoever they are players that hv it in abundant as hyped here but still languishing in lower tier clubs with escape route very slim

As for Okoye he was among the top 5 goalies in the Dutch league for 2 seasons before he got signed by Watford. He earned he’s move to England. Okoye didn’t earn the move because of his Caucasian mother but because he worked and earned it

So carry your bias mentality shift
For over 4 generations, Ajax have seen some of the finest footballers in the world, it's insane to think they have a particular bias against Bassey, a player they had high hopes for when he first arrived.

Even in chaos, good players still standout. For instance, You can't look at Chelsea's last season amist the upheavel and say Thiago Silva, Reece James, Chilwel, kovacic etc are all bad players.

For your information, Ajax problem last season wasn't goal scoring, only 1 team outscored them all season.
They had a very unstable defence partly due to Bassey's lack of position awareness, he lost his place at the end. A point Bassey himself agreed to when he said he was learning from Timber and Alvarez sitting on the bench(screenshot).

Secondly, his ability on the ball is comical. Simply not Ajax standard to put it mildly. His level is the Scottish league, harsh truth.
His profile being a left footed CB (a rarity) appeals to scouts. He wouldn't get this far if he was right footed. He will be exposed at Brighton.

because it didn’t work out for him at Ajax?

Na una go condemn quality but hype trash.

That Ajax team is toxic and the media in Holland haven’t been nice to the guy judging by the fact that he is in he’s first season with them

New country, league and style of play but you forget that it takes some players time to adapt to a new league and system

Letting him go after one season is one big mistake I knw Ajax will regret. Bassey is fast, robust and good on the ball so I believe that De Zerbi will bring out the best in him at Brighton if the deal goes through

Bassey has the qualities and in the right age to turn out to be a monstrous CB/LB in the nearest future
Listen, when profiling a player, look beyond nationality if you can, possibly remove all personal bias.
Bassey has a decent profile, in terms of age and position CB/LB. Beyond that, he is found wanting in very key areas. He lacks discipline and his technique is very suspect. Ajax got him to replace Martinez and you can see the drop off in quality.
You must be one of the jokers who thought Okoye was going to be decent at Watford because he's Nigerian.. Lol

Havertz was brought to strengthen the entire frontline.
His being a backup for Saka is more in case of injury or fatigue not necessarily as a sub.

He was a RW when at Bayer. He plays AM for Germany. Personally I don't see him as a striker and from what Arteta said, he will be deployed in midfield.
He could have evolved to become a striker later in his career. His case is exactly like Kelechi Iheanacho. Recall Kc was a SS/RW/AM in his formative years and probably the best teenage footballer in the world, but got converted too soon to become a top9. His growth has been staunted since 2016.
The benefit for Arsenal here is that Harvetz haven't been at Chelsea too long so he can be salvaged. Arteta is confident.

Unfortunately we don't anchor ⚓ prominence and capacity on history.

As it stands Aston Villa, West Bromwich , Wolverhampton W, are all much bigger clubs than Birmingham City.
True. But you don't completely wash away history and in terms of size I'm referring to what the club represents and the size of the city.

You're way off the mark man. Jezz! This boy signed his first professional football deal at 17 with Birmingham a club he's been with since he was 8yrs old. Players sign professional deals at 17.
How can you deceive your audience saying his shirt number was retired just because he signed a pro deal with his boyhood club?

For crying out loud, Jude Bellingham was a star boy of the city of Birmingham (the 3rd largest city in England after London and Manchester). He almost singled handedly saved them from relegation winning man of the match almost every week. As a gesture to inspire others kids from their academy they made a preemptive call to retire his number. His relative success with England and Dortmund in addition to his €110M Madrid deal means the club’s management were absolutely right to bank on him.

If they did that's purely based on sentiment. My question remains what did he achieve there?
On what basis will a club formed in 1875 retire a player's jersey number? How many Jersey numbers have they retired in their history if any? You call it an out of the blue sentiment?

Not necessarily at the bolded. Dortmund scout young players with high potential from any league, be it Austria, Championship etc.

What had Sancho done to show he was a consistent outstanding exceptional performer before they poached him?

Granted he was young, but what had Bellingham done in the championship, before they poached him? Several players have in the past delivered similar output but didn't end up in a Champions League club.

Birmingham retired Jude Bellingham's no 22 shirt and he was just 19.

It's time we accept our place on the global food chain.
We simply can't compete for talent with the big boys. We are like Burnley or Sunderland competing against Psg or Bayern for talent. It's that big a joke...

If Ngr can make back to back world cup Semi finals then we can contest with the Super national teams.

Making back to back world cup Semis will be likened to Sunderland taken over by Saudis with an investment of $2B in players, management, sports science and facilities.

Who will be that NFF president/ board who can make good investment with brilliant strategy from top to bottom in revolutionizing our local football structure to incubate talents who can force their way to a brilliant back to back brilliant world cup runs?

Barry man,I thought it was Nigeria vs Guinea Bissau not Nigeria vs Morocco...I hate stats or theoretical analysis when a team lost to very low team, truly it happens in football but this team needs better coaching and Peseiro is failing in this regard.
Shock results like that do happen every now and then. To be objective, the Guineans didn't deserve the victory based on the balance of play but regardless history will always record they beat Nigeria in Abuja.
On a better pitch, those overhit final passes will connect and we won't be having this discussion.

As much as Pesieros record looks poor, but to be fair, he wasn't the reason we lost yesterday. If Chukwueze, Osimhen, Simon and Lookman composed themselves better, we would have scored 3 goals between them.

Tactically, Pesiero withdrew Iwobi and made him the ball progressor in CM next to Ndidi whose limitation is well known. Most of the build-up play went through Iwobi as a result and it was OK and we dominated as expected against a lesser opposition.

The fault line for me was the attackers who looked to make hasty decisions when they were close to goal. There was simply no calmness or clarity in thought when we got close to their goal which is sad. Crosses were over hit, final passes were misplaced and shots were poor.

Uzoho for me, had one job. He had to be quicker off his line, since the team was pressing high up the pitch. A keeper like Ederson would swept the ball away before the Guinean made contact with the ball.

Funny enough, Akinsanmiro also featured briefly for Remo in the NNL/NPFL thanks to his prodigious talents.

When I first dropped, in late December, Akinsanmiro's brief analytical profile here (like I do for other youngsters from the local scene) and even stated that he is bound for Inter Milan, hardly anyone paid attention to it. Only a few like TheGoodJoe and co.

Now that January came and my post is confirmed, see how some come out and start talking about him as if they have known him since forever.

I have uncovered players almost no one on this thread knew about before other Journos caught on.

Akinsanmiro is one. Gift Emmanuel Orban is another. Jamiu Musbaudeen is yet another. Just to mention a few.

I have talked about other young Naija Talents as well and will keep uncovering more for Public attention.

I dont follow this thread back to back but I know you've played up a few names like these. Would have been better if there was a separate thread for that.

Remember when we had a convo and I said that Remo had the closest thing to be called a football academy. I wish they could open other centres around the country to follow the template of INDEPENDIENTE DEL VALLE of Ecuador probably get to work with Aspire guys to have these catchment areas set-up across the country.
They will make a killing if they do this. It will be like blood money. Talents yakpa

Balogun is made for the top. The kid will grow to become one of the most deadly strikers in the game. Doing this in his first season as a professional is pure madness. Earlier in the seasons he wasn't getting much attention, I dropped this comment about him.
