TheSuperNerd: Why bringing in plurals? Wasn't I clear enough?
The Number 1 stand alone best young midfielder on the Planet today is Pedri.
I clearly didn't say Best Young Midfielders. It isn't pluralised.
I said "Best Young Midfielder". So don't twist the discussion.
Pedri is the best young midfielder on the planet today, not Jude Bellingham and not anyone else. It's that straightforward and unarguable.
Address Komekn's Cap on Bellingham being in the best MFs conversation. Not best young MFs but Best MFs. That Cap is Crazy. Pedri being the best young midfielder in the world is not definite, you're just expressing your opinion. I've seen various opinion polls rate Foden ahead of him. All these are just individual talks to keep fans busy not definite. In some key areas both Foden and Pedri have their short comings but Bellingham appears to have a little bit of everything like a swizz army knife, same as Musiala. Eze would have been in the conversation if he was playing in the Champions league. |

TheSuperNerd: Jude Bellingham isn't "arguably" the best MF in the world. Not even close.
Best MFs in the world right now? We have several ahead of him.
Bellingham isn't even the best young midfielder in the world. That title belongs to Pedri.
Get your head out of the Queen's ass. She's dead already!!! Bellingham, Pedri, Musiala and Foden are the best young midfielders as it is. Forget cap |

ElSudani: I didn't say Nigeria can be self sufficient in every crop. But yes, Nigeria can be self sufficient in rice production and even have a lot for export. We can't achieve this level of sufficiency and compete at the global stage with the likes of China, India, Thailand, Australia etall. Not when you're producing 5tones per hectare at best. If it makes economic sense to produce rice locally, a bag of Nigerian rice should be 5k not #33k. You think you can export Nigerian rice x3 of Thailand and you will get willing international buyers? We have products which we grow cheaper, consume and export at profit. We should focus on that. This is like Micheal Jordan taking sabbatical from basketball to pick up golf and expect to beat Tiger woods to become world number1. |

ElSudani: China produces more than six million tonnes of cassava every year. That is not bad for a country that doesn't eat cassava as much as we do. I did mention weather and soil if you care to read my reply to you. Rice is a staple in the Chinese diet and they produce it more than any other country in the world. If Nigerians want to eat rice as well and they have the weather and the soil to support it the smart thing to do is to grow it themselves, unless you are trying to tell me rice cannot be successfully grown in Nigeria. That of course will be a lie. Good on China if they produce cassava but still doesn't negate my point. Countries have competitive edge in certain agro product. Unless you want to believe Nigeria can be self sufficient in every product, which will be wrong and myopic. For me, if we had edge in rice cultivation, imported rice with the logistics therein and tax shouldn't cost x2 lesser than home grown rice. It doesn't make economic sense to enrich a few rice farmers to the detriment of the entire country. |

ElSudani: The yeild per hectare is mostly due to the use of Fertilizer, nothing else. Do Nigerian farmers have the same access to Fertilizer and other equipments as their Thai counterparts? Do you eat cocoa on a daily basis? The Chinese are leading producers of a lot of food crops like rice, wheat, maize, soya beans etc, mostly for domestic consumption, is that a bad thing? Your argument doesn't hold water at all. Food production is not always for export purposes. If your weather and land is suitable what competitive advantage are you looking for, we are not talking about growing apples here. That's a simplistic take if it was all about fertilizer. In crop production you have various factors such as ecology, soil type, weather etc.. China for instance can't produce cassava with all the fertilizers in the world my friend. I took my time to give an overview of the concept of global trade. Importing rice and exporting cocoa balances trade deficit. With all the saving you made on rice import why is USD going over 730? The answer is simple, trade deficit. Importing rice was never the problem but rather our lack of export. |
Politics › Re: Peter Obi: We Will Remove Import & FOREX Restrictions by Barryseal: 8:54am On Oct 07, 2022 |
ElSudani: Nigeria should be importing rice rather than grow it? Who told you Nigeria cannot grow enough rice to satisfy local demand and still have a whole lot to export? What is premium rice? Are those countries growing their own rice in the sky? How is it bragging when you are able to produce what you eat ? Nigeria's rice yeild per hectare stands at 5tones, Thailand yield per hectare goes over 17 tones. The global rice index per hectare ranks Nigeria at number 68 out of 83. https://www.indexmundi.com/agriculture/?commodity=milled-rice&graph=yieldOga, we simply don't have a competitive edge in rice production. Invest same energy in cocoa, you will be world number 1. You get the point now? |

Perfectbeing: Rice increment is a small price to pay for getting to eat local rice.
Today Nigerians are still able to eat rice despite the increment.
You should be able to look at the end (the big pictire) and not just the beginning. Cheap rice was killing local rice farming.
Today, Nigeria is the biggest rice producer of rice in Africa. Millions of rice farmers are now richer compared to when rice was 9k. That is the big picture you should look at and not the price of rice. What is the demand for Nigerian rice outside this shores? How much foreign exchange have we gotten for this rice we are number 1 now according to you? Will USA import low quality rice from Nigeria at a higher cost than the premium product they get from Brazil, India or Thailand at cheaper rate? Do you know those millionaire rice farmers could have better served our economy if they were encouraged to produce ground nut, maize, cocoa, palm fruits, cassava, millet, instead of rice. We have a competitive edge in these products than rice. Instead we crippled our purchasing power to lust after rice just for bragging rights. Are we not better served importing rice and exporting 6 other cash crops to shore up our trade deficit? I'm tired of black people and their reasoning to be honest. |

You talked about closing borders, it's Buhari that did that, and yes that was a good measure, Nigeria rice production has really boosted and that saves us billions yearly. When we can produce rice, why import it. I think I have enlightened you enough, just go through my posts slowly and learn. It's time we understand the concept of global trade. Your imports are other country's export and your exports are other countries import. You should be more worried about trade deficit than all these ban this ban that. Whats all this hullabaloo about rice?! Have local production driven the prices down? Does it make sense to you that the rice you produce is x3 of what you get when imported? You don't have a competitive edge in rice cultivation than say Brazil, India or Thailand my friend. The attention the government gave to rice would have paid off if it was same attention was given to palm, ground nut or other cash crops which we have a global competitive edge, so you import another countries export and they import your export. In a nutshell, you put your best product forward, that's the concept of global trade. |

baretalk: quote author=Barryseal post=117329324] Oga in this 21 century, you can't isolate yourself from global business by banning importation. You raise import taxes and encourage local production just like Trump did. Fund your education sector and research institutions to reverse engineer and localize machines and equipments. The import duties you tax on imported products can be used to fund business ideas just like the Tony Elumelu foundation.
We are in the 21st century. You need smart leaders who will think outside the box for goodness sake. Go back to school and learn English, restrictions is different from ban, restrictions means, not allowing things we can produce come into Nigeria, and increasing quality control, not just allowing things we don't need inside. A nation's earnings must be more than his expenditure to other nations, and this can be done by increasing export and restrictions on unecessary imports. Nigeria has been importing too much, too much of what we don't need we are spending money on. When trump came in, he imposed a lot of import restrictions, and this boosted employment for Americans as home industries produce and sell more. We should concern ourselves with Nigeria and Nigerians first. Utilizing monetary and fiscal policies to give home industries an advantage is what every nation does. Especially a nation like Nigeria who can not really compete on production, we must protect home industries to grow, provide Nigerians jobs, expand the economy, export and earn foreign exchange, this is the trajectory we should be heading.
Raising import taxes is part of import restrictions!
See why I called you people half baked
Don't you know too much importation causes inflation?
Too much cash in circulation without much production activity, just spending, money ain't spreading, we are not expanding. I stopped reading when you asked I go back to school to learn English. You lack Basic online etiquette for further engagement. Bye |

baretalk: The way to true prosperity is creating production units, manufacturing, processing of agro based products and natural resources to finished products and exporting. Importing enriches only the importer business man, clearing agent, and customs, but when you encourage investment and production, you prosper the nation and earn foreign exchange. Nigeria is worlds largest importer of champagne, rice etc, we have been importing, that is what killed our currency and economy. When we took IMF loans and had to follow their instructions on free trade and open borders, our naira started crashing. Obi is not smart enough. we all are random, even Obi, because he has not helped anyone. Simple and clear, you can't grow your economy, create job and create opportunities by being a buying economy. This container mentality of igbos is what obi wants to use in Nigeria's advanced economy. Obi can talk a lot but he really can not make us prosper. Listen to him talk, he is not smart. How can you earn foreign exchange by importing?
When you import you have to buy dollars to pay, in the international market, this will keep devaluing our currency against dollar. Obi is a one eyed man, he is good for blind Igbos but dull to be Nigeria president. Only a lame will support what obi says. With the padlock on our economy and import restrictions as it is, we have more companies packing up and international airlines suspending flights to Nigeria. |

Our people need to be exposed at early stage to standard facilities like this one, it boosts their morale, builds confidence and produces a better crop of athletes. Every facility must not be built primarily for international tournaments, how many of such can one country have the opportunity to host in one decade? Which local athlete is based in Eket? Let's be serious, please. Athletes training facilities should be in the state capital or university training facilities like in other countries. That tartarn track could cost close to 500M+ and this won't be regularly used in 10yrs. Lack of feasibility study before embarking on projects like this, is the reason why our facilities lay farrow and die out. |

Danielnino00: Im afraid the Nigerian football league system may not allow Remo Stars to hit the heights they are capable of. Things such as poor officiating, home win syndrome, fans violence, lack of sponsorship deals and no TV view in the league are a threat... But their academy could return a lot of investment for them if they run it right..
Another club that's making impact is Vandrezzar FC.. Though unlike Remo, they don't have their own stadium yet and I don't think they have an academy too.. They should try and buy the slot of one of these NPFL clubs.. I like Vandrezzar. They understand what packaging means. If allowed, they look like a team who can invest heavily in facilities. I saw Asisat Oshoala's academy, their gym and training facilities looked impressive. Back to Remo, I am more concerned about what they are doing in their academy. With time, they will dominate Nigerian football. Their U17s battered teams in the last NPFL u17 competition. I wish we can have a fully developed Junior league. That's what the Nigerian Amateur league was meant for but it has been run-down with corruption. Games at that level are openly sold to the highest bidder. Transactions are done in the open at that level. |
