Foreign Affairs › Re: Comparing Argentina & Nigeria's Economic Reforms In The Last 2 Years by Basicend:
Racoon:
Argentina had worst problems than ours at the same inception. Argentina added about 38 billion dollars. In contrast, Nigeria lost almost 50% of its GDP under the same 2 years period.

Nigeria was once the country with the largest economy in Africa and one of the fastest growing economy in the world in 2014. Hence it a leadership problem. To think that some dunceheads took it to the abyss today is really a sorry thing for this nation.
A huge chunk of the economic fall came via gross borrowings and subsequent diversions of d funds to miscellaneous accounts, white-elephant projects and wrong priorities such as oil search efforts in the northern axis by the Buhari regime.

Naira was so much weakened due to accumulated loans and unwillingness to diversify and expand exports.

Tinubu carried the debris of the collapse. He (Tinubu) has been able to stabilize the Naira relatively.

However, he has not been able to tackle corruption, accessible and affordable utilities such as electricity, efficient telecoms, water etc which are the variables for powering the economy.

Tinubu tried to bring Nigeria to reality. Argentina currently owes IMF more than any other country in the world.

America currently have highest number of both commercial and military airplane stock in the world.
Mostly acquired during the economic boom era.

I believe the issue facing them currently is tied to inadequate maintanance. Collectively, it's a cost issue.

Mechanical failures are constantly yielding due to the rusty state of those aircrafts.

May be they should try and sell off some of them. If Nigerians buy those planes for example, you won't hear of crashes. Maintanance is easily a priority when the size is small or few.

They need to prioritize comprehensive maintanance urgently at any cost to resolve this.

True words from you brother.

You know they have cleverly gauged everything around money and result.

But in the eyes of the kingdom, there is a huge place from nurturing and bearing of the fruits. Which encompasses panting after God.

Financial rewards or results are just a bye-product of a truly yielding believer. It's not the main thing.

There is a place for struggle for every genuine believer before he climbs to measures of authority.

That's if, he truly subjects himself to climbing by the hand of God.

It is mammon grounds/alters that speak those kind of words.

Well, a man cannot give what he does not have. That's the issue.

Obavoh. You are doomed. After everything that happened to you, you've not taught yourself sense. After all the disrespect your wife and your people showed you it hasn't occurred to you that you are dealing with very dangerous people? You don't have a wife. What you have is a liability from a family of liabilities.

People who only show you love when you have money to spend are not people to be around with. Your wife watched as her mom carried a piece of fish from your food and your wife was okay with it? And you, having no dignity and self respect still went back to that home?

Na wa o. Your in-laws didn't see you finish. You saw yourself finish. Tueh!

afube:
Nigeria is not China's biggest market in Africa; South Africa is substantially larger!
Yes, you are correct.

But note that Nigeria is China's biggest consumer in Africa by trade volumes.

South Africa is largest by the reason of trade value. Which is due to Naira devaluation (almost by 300%).

So, the weight of transactions China will get from Nigeria is wider.

Xi better swallow his pride and go negotiate with the US. Nigeria and all African countries together don't make up to 40% of the purchasing power of the United States. Africa wey never see food chop na him China they hope to use grow their economy. If this impasse continues for the next 6 months a lot of Chinese factories will shut down and millions of Chinese will be jobless. China can't afford this they have billions of populations to feed and their factories grinding to a halt will mean disaster.
Both Xi and Trump will have to humble themselves. It's only a matter of time. They will get a deal done soon.

Effects spreads to both places; Walmart, Boeing, Apple, Tesla, Ford, American farmers, Chinese factories, Chinese warehouses, electronic and toy companies are all going down very quickly.

It's massive.

No one except almighty God can unseat an incumbent Tinubu as president.

Tinubu is not Jonathan. The man is a genius of a politician and power drunk. He knows the game well, and won't leave any space unchecked.

As for his performance in office, we are still reviewing it, and may still be subjectively negative.

For the first time, I am liking Atiku for being bold. He is the only opposing politician in Nigeria that is giving Tinubu raw watowato everytime.

Peter Obi is always mild, seemingly afraid and curny with use of his words, even at critical situations.

The only thing that makes me so scared of Atiku are his thievery tendencies.

Salute to him on this one.

Trump is crying up & down bcoz he is unable to bully and control China into submission, simple.

When you lose your competitiveness, you blame others for unfair trade.

When you over-spend, you blame others for over-producing.

When you punch others and suffering a backlash, you demand the other party to come talk to you.

Don’t forget America has benefited immensely past 3 decades from globalization.

It’s your domestic policies and not trade policies that led to your dire state today.

It is meaningless at this point.

Technically, a trading embargo has been fixed between both nations.

China stated last week that they will no longer respond. They will just ignore him.

The truth is America's influence and power has waned, and the growth momentum is in China's favour.

However, any of both countries can still cripple another. A very complicated battle.

China is the number one world power now
Truth is, China can cripple USA and USA can also cripple China. Power evolvement is in phases.

China is world's manufacturing (hub) powerhouse, while USA is the clearing house (the Central Bank) of global trade.

Both are the 2 major super powers in the world currently. Managing and sustaining power is delicate, continuous and requires a lot of tact and skill.

Very true words!.

China's trade expansion speed and efficency is exceptional.

They have almost covered the entired world, and have taken over from USA long time ago.

It is easier for China to find new markets for diversion becoz of Trump's mis-behavior.

See where China is as at 2024; once they get pacts with Canada and remaining parts of Europe, they literally own the world in trade.

US market can be overlooked really.

😂 we spoke about this shit some days ago, if China wants to hit the US, they should just cripple their cellphones and computers production lines
America has mistakingly put too much power in China's hands.

They slept further by diverting too much focus to wars/proxy wars and mass defence spendings, whereas, China quietly continued to build their research, tech, and global production base over the years.

Trump has displayed extreme rudeness and arrogance to the world and it's leaders. He has also lost the good faith and trust of allies.

He has put US in a very serious situation.

Stop trying to cripple China, it's late already.
Just strategically find ur current strengths and expand/improve on it.

Lol. Trump has caved in again. Now 2 times within the last 24 hours. The rich oligarchs in his team have put him under immense pressure.

He just exempted smartphones, laptop computers, hard drives and computer processors and memory chips from the 125% tariffs.

He felt China is like EU, Canada and the likes. He is still dreaming of a call for negotiations from Xi.

Whereas, China has slammed the USA a further increase in their tariff to 125%.

The point is more countries are trying to make friends with China now, b'coz its hard to trust US leadership for direction any further from this point. So, they can gradually diversify their exports.

More so, Chinese has been used to suffering for decades, so they will adapt, but Americans can't manage real suffering. .

The cards are actually with China, and that's why they have been very quiet.

Trump has just made a very big fool of himself globally.

My point is from international business perspective or any business for that matter equals tariffs on a situation where you’re the one selling more and making more money from the business relationship, equal tariffs is not fair on the other party that sell less

The best the US can do is renegotiate the terms of trade with China to make it balance on both sides
Trump is still waiting for Xi to call him. . Lol.

intellectual property theft is less than 10% reason for the trade war.. 90% of it is tarrifs, China tarrifs the US more than US tarrifs China

that is why you cant easily find a Chevy Camaro in Beijing

Nigeria doesnt steal intellectual property from the US neither does Canada- but both countries came under Trump tarrif recently - so all these is all about balance of trade, lets keep it simple!
What gave China the idea to be able to produce exactly the same products that American companies manufactured in their backyards?

That's the origin of the whole issue.
China was Trump's target, those other countries u mentioned were just pawns.

Today they (China) can threaten America and the likes, becoz they can create similar things (with more population) that gave those countries an edge initially.

China's loss - India's gain

whatever China can produce - India and Vietnam can

Now anyone who ever made a Billion dollars in his or her life is way smarter than you who cant boast of 100 dollars in your miserable bank account
America and it's companies will cry again if they engage India.

India have same issues; a massive population of very IT and tech-inclined people.

Therefore, intellectual property theft that led China to clone American products will only continue there.

Another issue is the logistical process and infrastructure of China is very efficient and wld be hard to substitute.

Vietnam, perhaps Yes. Okay.
Foreign Affairs › Re: Trump lowers reciprocal tariffs for 90 days, imposes 125% on China goods by Basicend:
All I can read are quite humbled and weakened words from Trump.

China has just 16.2% of her total exports to the USA. An average Chinese investor saves about 30% of proceeds and minimize loans. So, they have prepared for this day, and can diversify their market gradually.

He knew Americans are badly feeling the heat now, and he may roast them into poverty.

He had reasoned that with 125% tariff on China, the US economy may not sustain high tariffs concurrently from other countries. He shouldn't have folded na. He needs 90 days to do a viability check.

China will surely hit back. Coz they have a point to prove to him.

Those technologies would be obsolete in few years time without further research and development. This is where the US has an edge and China is lacking. Most innovations like lithium battery used in those vehicles you mentioned originated from the US. And the future still holes more! China only copies and mass produce.
Technologies are birth in laboratories of research institutions and not in factories. Think of what is going on in institutions like Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Yales and Tufts etc. These are the best brains in the world. China does not come close and they know it. That is why their elites would pay any amount to for their wards to attend these colleges.
Currently, China does almost same weight of research and direct innovation as USA in several key areas.

USA had diverted their research fundings to war weaponry and proxy wars within the last few years / decade. Hence the waning.
Foreign Affairs › Re: China Imposes 84% Import Tariffs On US Goods by Basicend: 1:32pm On Apr 09, 2025
Apple moving factory to India is just an impulsive decision that will not address the core issue.

India, Malaysia, Taiwan, Singapore etc all have the same intellectual property theft tendency that made China a cloning and manufacturing giant today.

Yes, those companies are trying to outsmart high American labour cost, but they should be wise to site their factories in African countries or places like Jamaica, Vietnam. This category of people will not be bothered about stealing your coding or tech secrets. And as such, America will be less bothered about rising competition and intellectual theft.
