You can't pay an American $15/hr and still buy three boxer shorts for $5 or headphones for $5 for example.

In the pre world war 2 era America was a net exporter. Enter China and Bill Clinton. Chinese labor is cheap and they are able to manufacture at lowest cost. Which big companies want never mind its slavish labor.
My research tells me that helping china would turn it into a democratic nation, apparently that never happened.
As for global supply chains China is world manufacturing factory and that cannot be easily replaced as most production has shifted there.
Again china was the leading world power centuries before. i would think they want that back.I read somewhere that they build 30k kilometers of roads every year.
