Bundaweber:, ah ah, bros I fear who nor fear you. Lia dey learn from where you dey. For your information I was at both venue the people in today's rally were more. Infact the number of northerners in Buhari rally in Edo was shocking, are these people voting in Benin? I doubt. Urhoghide will win obviously, based on performance omosede will definitely win, I don't know of ihama. However the Buhari factor will give victory to most of the PDP federal legislators(aspirants) in Edo South. Oshiomole can continue to buy the bini chiefs, they only have one vote, the bini chief can continue to insult esama coz he is not a begger like them, they all have one vote. I repeat minus vote buying Buhari will loose by more than 70% in Edo. |

Lovemaester:with your 10k per vote or what, who are you mobilising, what reason(s) will you give as a basis for Edo people to vote Buhari, how many people were you able to mobilize for Buhari's rally. You are doing a poor job in mobilizing if by now the average binis want Buhari out. I stand by my word, if inec prevent vote buying Buhari will not get 10% of the votes in Edo State. Am happy the level of education and wealth of the Esan people has liberated them from the vote selling disease, thanks to anenih. If only my bini people can do same. 6 Likes 1 Share |

donphiilopus:The crowd was more than that of APC, a state where the national chairman is from. Even with the 1k per attendance and with the majority been northerners, the attendance was much less when compared to that of PDP. Was it not a shame that Buhari held a rally directly opposite a banner with an inscription " ASUU on Strike pls comply". Except you are not in Benin, Buhari will loose Benin by more than 75%, if inec is able to stop vote buying the margin will be more. 5 Likes 1 Share |

I don't knw of other states, Edo was 1k per attendance. You get a form at the venue, the form is collected by the ward chairman after the rally and the money is disbursed respectively. The budget as I heard during fighting in one of the ward in Lucky way was 1.5m. The party faithful asked the chairman to bring the balance of 900k for sharing. The chairman insisted he only collected 600k. The party faithful insisted its usually 1.5m and he should bring the balance out. The ward chairman was new though. |

And I watched the show where he made the statement, it was unrelated to the privatization of nnpc, he made the statement following an alleged report that he will enrich his friends, he gave a reasonable answer unlike the idiot in aso Rock that is enriching his family. Note that at the end of the statement he stated clearly that provided corruption was not involved all his friends will be rich. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / What It Means For IGP Idris Kpotun To Remain In Office by bbxxxxxx: 6:00pm On Jan 14, 2019 |
Available records say Idris Kpotun, who would rise to the exalted position of Police Inspector General, enlisted into the Nigerian Police Force on 3 January, 1984. Those sources say Mr. Kpotun was born on 15 January, 1959, meaning he turns 60 tomorrow. I’m using this medium for the transmission of birthday wishes to him. By virtue of his position, Mr. Kpotun, a public officer not a political appointee, is subject to the Federal Public Service Rules 2009. Rule 020810 (ii) expressly states that “the compulsory retirement age for all grades in the Service shall be 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service whichever is earlier” and “no officer shall be allowed to remain in service after attaining the retirement age of 60 years or 35 years of pensionable service whichever is earlier.” In other words, Mr. Kpotun reaches one milestone tomorrow, and passed the other 11 days ago. As per Police Service Commission guidelines, he ought to have proceeded on pre-retirement leave three months ago. Since the 3rd of January, there have been calls for President Muhammadu Buhari not to renew the Kpotun’s term, and the President has been sued by an opposition party, Action People’s Party over purported moves to extend his tenure. The anxiety is understandable as this won’t be the first extension done by Buhari. Despite admitting that they’d performed poorly, Buhari approved the extension of the tenures of the military service chiefs on 18 December, 2018. The police are not subject to the Armed Forces Act anyway. In his own reaction, Information Minister, Lai Mohammed, pointed out that both Presidents Obasanjo and Yar’Adua extended the tenures of Sunday Ehindero and Mike Okiro respectively. While Ehindero did serve until his 61st birthday in 2007, Okiro retired on 24 July, 2009, his 60th birthday. Why follow a bad example? This Tom and Jerry game with the IG begs the question of why, the government appears determined to keep Kpotun, and the opposition appears frightened of having him remain in office. In 1957, a 21-year-old who had just finished secondary school in Keffi, in today’s Nasarawa state, joined the police. This cadet was quickly marked out for great things and received the Cane of Honour as the best cadet in his class. He then proceeded to the UK for advanced training in 1965. Due to a shortage of manpower during Nigeria’s Civil War, he was recalled from England in 1968, and became a police commissioner at 32, the youngest till date. In 1981, President Shehu Shagari appointed him Police Inspector General to replace Adamu Suleiman who was retiring having attained the age of 60. His name was Sunday Adewusi. Mr. Adewusi, who died in 2016, had his otherwise stellar career tainted by an event two years into his tenure. As the 1983 elections loomed, it became clear that the power cabal around President Shagari was determined that he get a second term despite his lacklustre performance. One of the baits dangled by Shagari’s NPN was the prospect of a Southerner succeeding him in 1987. The most prominent Southern politicians of the time, Nnamdi Azikiwe and Obafemi Awolowo didn’t take the bait and ran under the platforms of NPP and UPN, while Northerners within Shagari’s own circles such as Maitama Sule and Ibrahim Tahir were unhappy at the prospect of their ambitions being shunted (or until 1995 at least). A certain Mamman Daura openly criticised Shagari. Southerners in the NPN somehow came to the conclusion that the zone (East or West) which produced the most votes for the NPN would produce Shagari’s successor in 1987. Cue a race to massage figures, and Mr. Adewusi’s police played a part in that drama. One of the more infamous incidents from the election was Shagari, observing a low voter turnout in Sokoto asking on camera, “Where are the voters?”, and that same evening a shot of Melford Okilo, Rivers governor, replying, “My voters are in the creeks.” Yet Sokoto ending up having an improbably higher number of votes than Kano. All of that was ensured by the police, and since then, Inspectors-General have played a dubious role in Nigerian elections. Concerns over the possible extension of the current PIG’s tenure stem from this unfortunate tradition. The conduct of security agencies has been flagged as a risk for the credibility of next month’s elections. The police have been identified as an unstable variable. If President Buhari extends Kpotun’s tenure, it is likely to be perceived as an indication that the ruling APC will use the police to secure illicit advantages in the polls. It will also be seized upon by political actors as a pretext for discrediting the elections, leading to more political uncertainty. The real lesson from this drama, is the urgency of a certain aspect of the Police Reform Bill currently in front of the Senate, sponsored by Bala N’Allah (APC, Kebbi). This aspect seeks to remove the appointment of the PIG from the President, and make it the domain of the Senate. That clause, if passed, will go a long way to depoliticising the position https://guardian.ng/politics/what-it-means-for-igp-idris-kpotun-to-remain-in-office/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |

Politics / Boko Haram Overrun Military Base Again: Kill 3 Soldiers by bbxxxxxx: 5:14pm On Nov 30, 2018 |
Boko Haram jihadists have killed three soldiers in an attack on a military base in northeast Nigeria's Borno state near Lake Chad, military and civilian sources said. Fighters from Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) driving in several trucks attacked the base in Cross-Kauwa village on Tuesday and engaged troops in an hours-long gunfight, the sources told AFP late Wednesday. "We lost three soldiers in the fight," said a military officer who asked not to be named. "The soldiers fought the terrorists but were overpowered and had to withdraw from the base," he added. A Cross-Kauwa resident said the Islamists stormed the village in trucks fitted with anti-aircraft guns around 8:00 pm (1900 GMT). "The insurgents fought the soldiers for three hours and forced them to abandon the base," said the resident who wanted to be identified only by his first name, Bukar, for fear of reprisals. Buba said troops withdrew to the garrison town of Monguno, 18 kilometres (11 miles) away while others stopped at another base in nearby Kekeno which Boko Haram has made several failed attempts to overrun in recent weeks. The news of the attack was slow to emerge due to a lack of communications in the region following destruction of telecom facilities by the jihadists. Boko Haram has in recent months intensified attacks on military targets in Borno and Yobe states in the northeast. Since July, AFP has tracked 17 attacks on military bases, most of which were claimed by ISWAP. In the most audacious attack on November 18, ISWAP fighters killed at least 43 soldiers when they overran a base in Metele village near the border with Niger, although soldiers who survived the raid said more than 100 of their colleagues were killed. On Wednesday, President Muhammadu Buhari visitied troops in Maiduguri, the epicentre of the insurgency and urged the military to show more commitment in fighting the jihadists. The Nigerian leader was due in N'Djamena, the capital of Chad, on Thursday for talks with his regional counterparts in a fighting force against the jihadists. Buhari who came to power in 2015 on the promise to end the violence has come under pressure following the recent surge in Boko Haram attacks as he seeks re-election in February polls. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/wires/afp/article-6441663/amp/Boko-Haram-kills-three-soldiers-overrun-Nigerian-army-base.html?__twitter_impression=true |

Politics / Consul-general: $1.3bn American Businesses In Nigeria Under Threat by bbxxxxxx: 7:02pm On Nov 06, 2018 |
United States Consul-General in Nigeria, F. John Bray, has said that $1.3 billion American businesses in Nigeria are under threat as result of instability in the exchange rate, policy inconsistency, poor electricity, dearth of infrastructure, regulatory and security issues. Bray has called also for increased investment in the education of the girl-child and greater political participation of women in Nigeria. Bray spoke in Lagos at the 2018 International Investment Conference with the theme: “Promoting Investment, Connecting Business,” organized by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). He said American investors have issues with how policies are made and changed, noting that it has the capacity to discourage investors in the country. The envoy said the development has the capacity to discourage any investor as there is no clear-cut obedience to rule of law to protect investors. He argued that the country has image problem which needed to be addressed urgently. Bray noted that though security concerns remain an issue, it is not enough to discourage genuine investors as what they need to do is just to take care of their personal or corporate existence. On infrastructure, he advocated the building of competitive infrastructure and stressed the need to connect cities and states for easy movement of goods and services. In another development, Bray has called for increased investment in the education of the girl-child and greater political participation by women in Nigeria. Bray in his keynote address on the second day of the 17th Annual Conference of Women in Management, Business and Public Service (WIMBIZ) in Lagos recently said: “Nigeria cannot achieve its dreams of a prosperous and inclusive society without reinventing its approach to how it is treating the overwhelming majority of the women and girls living in this country. “It may be up to you to change the tenor of the national discourse and prod Nigeria to place education and health, as well as the status of women and girls higher on the national agenda.” A statement by the Public Affairs Section (PAS) of the US Consulate General said Bray spoke on ‘Unstoppable You: Reinvent and Reinvigorate’ at the event attended by leading women from both the private and public sectors, and encouraged the women leaders to continue working to promote gender equality in Nigeria. He lamented that Nigeria is reportedly home to the largest number of out-of-school children in the world, and many of them girls. “If Nigeria properly invests in the education of women and girls, how many more Amina Mohammeds will represent this country on the world stage? If more women and girls are given equal opportunities, how many more Chimamanda Ngozi Adichies will be able to tell stories that enthrall the world?” Bray asked. He challenged the conference participants to press for greater involvement by women in the country’s politics, noting that removing the barriers to women’s full economic participation is important to an inclusive and prosperous Nigeria. He said: “WIMBIZ and various Nigerian women’s organizations can help Nigeria decide the course of its future and chart a course that will lead to a democratic and prosperous nation. You can start by working to ensure that the 2019 elections are free, fair, credible, and peaceful. That would be a great start,” the Consul General added. http://saharareporters.com/2018/11/06/consul-general-13bn-american-businesses-nigeria-under-threat |
