Politics / Why Is It Always About Political Parties? by bbxxxxxx: 3:43pm On Aug 14, 2018 |
I wonder how many Nigerians knew the political parties Hillary Clinton/Trump belong to without searching the internet, but I am sure majority knew both Hillary and Trump were the major candidates contesting the USA presidential election. The election issues were all about what the candidates were bringing to the table, debates were held by both candidates on several occasions (not the usual "in 15 minutes tell us how you will improve the economy" as seen in Nigeria). The voters decision were based on the debate and not on the political parties they belong to. This is why the elected officials feel the responsibility to perform, coz if they fail the people will see them as the failure and not the political party. So it's citizen first before political parties. That's why you do not see a party chairman telling Parliament who to lead them. If we don't stop this idea of making elections issues about political parties, this politicians will continue to disrespect the voters and think political parties first and the bad governance will continue. This politicians should take responsibility for their actions or inactions, and not the political party. You cannot arrest PDP /APC, but you can arrest GEJ, OBJ and GMB. The citizens should look beyond party, it's an insult to praise akpabio and accuse PDP of looting the state dry. That's the height of disrespect. |

GoodGovernance:was there a published order exempting adeosun from nysc. Even if, why will she aquire a fake certificate. The problem with this country is tribalism. Just see the way the Yorubas are defending this crime, same way they will defend obj and accuse GEJ of corruption because he refused to appoint people like adeosun as finance minister. I wonder if those senators could blackmail NOI. And for those Yorubas who are trying to justify it by claiming xyz also did not serve, they should realise that xyz did not aquire and present a fake nysc certificate to the senate. The IG should arrest this woman immediately without delay. Forgery is a criminal offence. |

Politics / Democracy Day 2018: Comparing GEJ Achievements In 100 Days To PMB In 3 Yrs. Reno by bbxxxxxx: 6:12am On May 29, 2018 |
By Reno Omokri For four months, patriotic Nigerians have been waiting for officials of the Buhari administration to take up the #BuhariChallenge and name at least one project that the Buhari administration has initiated, started and completed in three years. President Muhammadu Buhari bids farewell to the former President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan after a close door meeting at the State House in Abuja The funny thing is that if any administration is expected to act with dispatch on such a challenge, that government should be Mr. Buhari’s regime. In Nigeria’s post colonial history, no other administration has had the number of media aides that President Buhari has. President Buhari has the following media aides: * A Special Adviser on Media and Publicity * A Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity (the official spokesman) * A Special Assistant on Digital Communications * A Personal Assistant on Broadcast Media (Radio) (the most influential media aide of the President) * A Personal Assistant on New Media * A Personal Assistant on Social Media * A Chief Personal Photographer (Bayo Omoboriowo) * A Personal Assistant to the President and State Photographer (Sunday Aghaeze) It is rather telling that after having a record 8 media aides, President Buhari’s administration is still unable to take the #BuhariChallenge. As a matter of fact, after the President appointed Festus Keyamo as the official spokesman for his re-election campaign, I congratulated Mr. Keyamo and urged him to take the #BuhariChallenge to which Mr. Keyamo never responded. Why has the Buhari government not being able to name even one project initiated, started and completed in the last three years? The answer to that question is that the Buhari Administration is embarrassed to admit that the only project initiated, started and completed in the last three years by the present regime is the helipad built by President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura, his home town. I challenge any of President Buhari’s eight media aides, plus his lying minister of information and the spokesman of his campaign to rebut me if I am lying. In three years, the President has not conceived of and finished any project except a project meant for his own personal use.Therein lies the crux of the matter. Nigeria is being ruled by a man who thinks only of himself and not the people he should lead. Ask yourself how long does it take to build a school. Former President Jonathan built 120 secondary schools in his first three years and 12 universities within the same period (a total of 165 were built by the fourth year). President Buhari has not built even ONE school in three years which he initiated and completed, yet this is a man who claimed that Nigerian youths were uneducated, lazy and unemployable. If that is what he thinks about our youth, then why has President Buhari not built even ONE school to remedy the situation? How long does it take to build one hospital? Former President Jonathan built 15 hospitals in his first three years. President Buhari has not built even ONE hospital in three years which he initiated and completed, yet this is a man who spends millions of tax payers money that could have built hospitals on his UK doctors. How long does it take to build houses for the masses? In his first three years, Former President Jonathan built over 2,000 mass housing units which he initiated and completed. In three years in power, President Buhari has not built even one mass housing scheme which he initiated and completed. Yet, the President goes to Commission mass housing schemes built by state governments with fewer resources than the Federal Government. The sad thing is that no less than 18 of Nigeria’s 36 state Governors can boast of multiple projects that they have initiated, started and completed in the last three years, including and especially, Governors Nyesom Wike, Akinwunmi Ambode, Ayo Fayose and Aminu Tambuwal. But that is only half the story. At a plenary session of the Nigerian Senate on March 7, 2018, a Senator from the President’s ruling All Progressive Congress said: “Without fear or favour, the Peoples Democratic Party, in 16 years, borrowed N6 trillion and this (Buhari’s) government in three years, has borrowed N11 trillion” So, not only has the Buhari regime not initiated, started and completed any project in the last three years (other than the Daura helipad), the same government has borrowed ₦11 trillion in three years which is double the ₦6 trillion the PDP borrowed in 16 years. What did the Buhari government do with the money? As Omawunmi sang ‘if you ask me, na who I go ask?’ Perhaps the President used it to pay the salaries of his eight media aides! For those who will ask me if the administration I served in has a better record than Muhammadu Buhari’s administration in terms of projects, policies and programs, I will republish a list of former President Jonathan’s 100 days achievements and my readers can compare and contrast it with the advertised ‘achievements of the Buhari government as it marks three years in office. 24 Key Economic Achievements of Former President Jonathan’s 100 Days in Office • Just Few Out Of Many Listed 1. Nigeria’s oil industry expanded by 20% and we reclaimed our position as Africa’s largest oil exporter which we’d hitherto lost to Angola. 2. Recognized by OPEC in July as the 2nd largest oil exporter 2nd only to Saudi Arabia. It is the first time Nigeria has recorded such a feat. 3. Inflation rate has been reducing as the administration enforces tighter fiscal policies. 4. In June the Consumer Price Index showed an inflation rate of 10.2% which dropped to 9.4% in July being the lowest rate in the last 4 years. 5. Foreign Reserves rises by 10% to $35 billion. 6. Nigeria’s GDP growth rate month over month has continued to grow from 6.7% in May to 6.9% in July of 2011. 7. Nigeria declared top three investment destinations in Africa (number 2) by the independent Africa Business Panel in the Netherlands. 8. Nigeria now generates power at her highest level ever (4000mw) which is still far from enough but which will improve monthly. 9. Nigerian Railway Corporation commenced Mass Transit Services in 5 of 6 geo-political zones. Last zone will come on stream by year’s end. 10. With establishment of the Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA), President Jonathan facilitates direct investments into infrastructure with priority areas being Power and Roads. 11. The Federal Government also awarded contracts for various road projects across the country whose impact will soon be felt nationwide. 12. Launch of NigeriaSat-2 and NigeriaSat-X Satellites to expand Internet Bandwidth and provide early warning to prevent natural disasters. 13. President introduced the policy of engaging the Private Sector on kerosene pricing and price reduced between May and September, 2011. 14. Recognizing the sacrifices of youth corps members, President approved upward review of allowances from 9,700 to 19,800 Naira. 15. Implementation of Minimum Wage Increase for Nigerian Workers to 18,900 Naira monthly. 16. 35% Slot For Women in the cabinet. 17. Deepening Security and expanding Peace in the Niger Delta. 18. Reduced kidnapping in South East with implementation of President’s order establishing the 14 Brigade of the army in Ohafia, Abia state. 19. Maritime Safety has been ensured and stabilized in the last 100 days. 20. A stellar cabinet comprising former MDs of the World Bank & Goldman Sachs, Chairperson Accenture and multiple PhDs. 21. The National Automobile Council established an Automotive Development Fund to resuscitate the automobile industry and generate jobs. 22. Approval for genuine foreign investors to obtain visas at the point of entry to facilitate FDI investments. 23. Model Skills Training Centers in Abuja- collaboration between Industrial Training Fund & the Institute for Technical Education, Singapore. 24. Establishment of the Nigerian Vehicle Credit Purchase scheme. It is instructive to note that while President Jonathan achieved all these and more in his first 100 days in office with the aid of his full cabinet, President Buhari, in comparison, was yet to appoint ministers or establish any policy direction for his administration at the 100 day mark of his government. Politics / The PDP Brought Garba Shehu To Limelight. PDP Is His Mother And Father! Reno Omo by bbxxxxxx: 6:08am On May 23, 2018 |
The PDP Brought Garba Shehu to Limelight. PDP Is His Mother and Father! Quite unfortunately for President Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, my attention has been drawn to some hypocritical statements he made to the media. After attacking former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, and the Peoples Democratic Party, Garba Shehu has taken to attacking me directly saying: “Tell Reno and his friends that Nigerians want their moneys back and they should forget about presiding over the affairs of this country.” It is so sad that Mr. Shehu would choose to go the route of hypocrisy. What do I mean? Let me explain. Garba Shehu was Special Assistant on media for years during the Peoples Democratic Party administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo. Garba did not resign from that government. In fact, Garba Shehu was affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party for 12 good years. He has been in the PDP for more years than he has been APC. He was in the PDP longer than I, Reno Omokri, have been associated with the PDP. Garba Shehu cannot deny this because his office was opposite mine at the Presidential villa between 2003 when I returned from the United Kingdom and 2005 when I went to the US. Garba shehu used to craft very strong anti Buhari press releases for the PDP during his 12 year sojourn as a PDP member, which included years spent as SA media under Obasanjo. Now he crafts press releases for the same man he once attacked against the same people he once praised! Garba is the epitome of AGIP-Any Government in Power. I am the epitome of loyalty. There is no basis to compare myself with him. I follow my conscience. Garba follows his stomach. I challenge Garba Shehu to come out and tell Nigerians whether I am lying? Or does he want me to provide proof. Garba Shehu would do well to remember that I am a very meticulous record keeper and fact provider! Garba Shehu attacking the PDP is like a child attacking his own mother. The PDP brought Garba to limelight. The PDP is Garba’s mother and father. When Garba Shehu indicts PDP for 16 years of alleged ‘misrule’ he should accept responsibility for 12 of those years. Instead of being a hypocrite, Garba should tell Nigerians where: * Where their $25 billion NNPC money is * Who reinstated and double promoted Maina * When Babachir will be prosecuted * Why the ES of the NHIS who was indicted for misappropriating ₦ 10 billion was restored. * Who owns the Ikoyi billions. Nigerians would recall that in a statement issued by Garba Shehu during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s birthday last year, President Buhari called him President Obasanjo a statesman ‘with commitment to good governance’. Today, the President is hinting at probing Obasanjo’s alleged $16 billion power project contracts just because Obasanjo is against his reelection. War on C̶o̶r̶r̶u̶p̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ opposition! This is the type of hypocrisy that President Buhari and Garba Shehu are known for which is why Nigerians are determined to Change the Change in 2019. Politics / IMF Doubts Nigeria’s Capacity To Repay Debts by bbxxxxxx: 4:51pm On May 22, 2018 |
The International Monetary Fund on Monday expressed concern over Nigeria’s capacity to repay its debts and stressed the need for the Federal Government to mobilise more revenues domestically. The Washington-based fund, at the public presentation of the Spring 2018 Issue of the Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa, said the public debt in the region was on the rise. IMF Senior Resident Representative and Mission Chief for Nigeria, Amine Mati, said, “The number of countries in debt distress has increased. From six countries in 2014 to eight in 2015, to 10 in 2016, and today 15 countries. These are low-income economies. “Now, I know the question that is going to come from here is: Where is Nigeria? Nigeria is not considered a low-income economy. Nigeria’s debt stock figure, which is 20 to 23 per cent of Gross Domestic Product, is still quite low by any standard. The issue is capacity to repay the debts. So, interest payment to revenue is an issue.” On the need to ramp up domestic revenue mobilisation, Mati put Nigeria’s total revenue at six per cent of GDP. “There is a lot that can be done to increase revenue very quickly,” he said. Noting that Value Added Tax rate had been quite low in Nigeria, he said doubling the compliance on VAT from 25 to 50 per cent would increase the VAT ratio from 0.9 per cent of GDP to close to two per cent. Nigeria’s debt stood at N21.73tn as of December 31, 2017, compared to N12.12tn as of June 30, 2015, according to the Debt Management Office. The DMO had said the composition of the debt stock as of the end of 2017 showed that external debt was 26.64 per cent of the portfolio, up from 20.04 per cent in 2016, while the domestic debt was 73.36 per cent, down from 79.96 per cent in 2016. The Director-General, DMO, Patience Oniha, in her remarks at the event, said the government had been working aggressively to shore up revenues as well as reduce borrowing costs. “The debt service is a function of the interest that you pay on those borrowings as well as your revenue. The critical part is that revenue has been low relative to the size of the GDP. So that has to go up,” she said in an interview on the sidelines of the event. According to her, there is an aggressive drive to raise revenues through the Voluntary Assets and Income Declaration scheme. Oniha said, “What are we doing on debt service? The new debt management strategy, which we started implementing last year, seeks to moderate the growth of interest expense by shifting some of the borrowing externally. “If we were borrowing on the domestic market, last year we would be borrowing at about 16 to 17 per cent and early on the year, 18 per cent. But we went to the international market. So rather than borrow that $4.8bn that we borrowed in the international market in the domestic market, we borrowed at below eight per cent. If we raised the money in the domestic market, we would have had to pay those high rates.” The DMO DG said the government saved over N70bn from, estimated on a per annum basis, from that exercise. “We are still borrowing because there are provisions for borrowing in the budget. But in terms of how much it cost us to borrow, we are working actively on reducing that and reducing the refinancing risk that we had with Treasury bills every 90 days, every six months.” http://punchng.com/imf-doubts-nigerias-capacity-to-repay-debts/amp/?__twitter_impression=true |
