De-Group was founded at The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Saki satellite campus, now The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic in 2001 with the aim of building servant leaders, hence, it's slogan; "True leadership is servanthood"! The forum has been saddled with the responsibility of balancing qualitative leadership with servanthood leadership from inception. De-Group Socio-academic and Political Forum came into existence by coming together of some students of The Polytechnic Ibadan,Saki Campus who felt the need to change the political landscape of the institution at that time. The forum was established in the year 2001, few of the pioneer members include Busari Yakubu (Donbay), Koleosho Daud, Afolabi Ademola, Shokehinsi Lola, Adegoke Teslim among others. These people started deliberating on how to ensure the forum become a factor to be reckon with and bring about a change in the way student unionism is been run. Having realised the importance of the enormous task ahead of them, pioneer members started mobilising to gain the trust of the students and expand membership which yielded positive results in no time, as the group became the most sought after political group on campus. The forum started as a political group on campus with the motto 'No Retreat,No Surrender'. After a while it metamorphosed to a social-political forum with True Leadership is Servanthood as its motto. At this juncture the history of the group will never be complete without appreciating the efforts of the following distinguished indigene of Saki who stood solidly behind us and supported the forum to achieve her aims and objectives, for this we are eternally grateful to Alhaji Gani super, Late Alh Tijani (Tijafox), Alfa Rahman e t c. De-Group Socio-academic and Political Forum witnessed had its ups and downs. We have fought many battles, we lost some, we won massively too and all these was made possible by the collective efforts of all members of the forum. At this juncture, we remember some of our comrades who have lost their lives. May we all stand for a minute silence, may their precious soul rest in perfect peace. Amen. The forum as it stands today is still making significant progress in and around the world, and more importantly at The Polytechnic Ibadan,Saki campus now known as The Oke-Ogun Polytechnic. Our members are all over the county and in diaspora doing practically well in their chosen career. The forum parades astute businessmen and politicians who have contested for different political office in Nigeria and those that will still take a short in the forthcoming election. Ours is a forum that believes in excellence and distinction and we are working assiduously to change the landscape of politics and governance in the country. .https://infonets.com.ng/Thread-DE-GROUP-At-20-Through-The-Lens-Of-History |

President, Muhammadu Buhari has ordered Ministries, Departments, Agencies, MDAs, and business enterprises to grant access to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to their systems for the purposes of tax collection. This directive was issued on Thursday at the First Annual National Tax Dialogue organized by the FIRS in Abuja by the President. Buhari also ordered the FIRS to “immediately put all measures in place to fully implement programmes to stamp out Base Erosion and Profit Shifting in all of its ramifications and generally automate its tax processes.” He urged the FIRS to fast-track its digitalization of the tax collection process. “I have directed all government agencies and business enterprises to grant FIRS access to their systems for connection. We all are now living in a fast digitalising world. “As such, business transactions are continually being migrated from “brick and mortar” locations to digital places. “However, It is necessary for tax authorities to adopt digital means to efficiently track taxable transactions for the purpose of collecting taxes. “We also made necessary amendments to the FIRS Establishment Act in the Finance Act 2020 in order to provide the necessary legislative framework for adopting technology in tax administration,” he said. https://infonets.com.ng/Thread-President-Bunari-Order-MDAs-To-Grant-Access-To-FIRS-For-Tax-Collection |

Borno State Governor, Prof Babagana Zulum, said that for the sake of fairness, power should return to the south in 2023. He faulted the suspicion that any part of the country could not be trusted with power, perhaps for the fear of secession. The Governor of Borno State, Prof Babagana Zulum, said on Friday that for the sake of fairness, power should return to the south in 2023. He faulted the suspicion that any part of the country could not be trusted with power, perhaps for the fear of secession. He stressed that there was a need for fairness in the country, adding that marginalisation had become the loudest concern from the citizenry. He spoke in Lagos on Friday at the 17th Chief Gani Fawehinmi annual lecture, themed ‘The constitutional history of Nigeria’s dysfunction: Any pathway to indivisibility and common progress?’ which was an event organised by the Nigerian Bar Association, Ikeja Branch, to celebrate the life and times of the late Fawehinmi. The governor stated that one of the pathways to common progress was for fairness to reign in the country. The governor said, “I’m persuaded that other sections of the country should be given the opportunity to lead in 2023, why not? It is constitutional.” Zulum, who reeled out the criteria set by the constitution for anyone to contest the Presidency, as contained in Section 131 of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), asked all the persons from the South-East and South-South at the event to rise. He then told them that once they met the four conditions stated in the Section, they were also qualified to contest the presidency. The section reads, “A person shall be qualified for election to the office of the President if (a) he is a citizen of Nigeria by birth; (b) he has attained the age of forty years; (c) he is a member of a political party and is sponsored by that political party; and (d) he has been educated up to at least School Certificate level or its equivalent.” Speaking further on the issue of fairness as regard 2023, he stated, “Consequently, my response to the question posed by the theme of this programme is that yes, there are pathways to indivisibility and common progress; we must collectively agree that we need to do more to demonstrate fairness to every constituent part that made up this country. That is the constitution. “We need to understand that pedestrian suspicion is not an empirical or legal reason to deny any section of the country from participation in the leadership of this country. We are fast moving towards a point of inevitable tension. “One of the loudest concerns from the public is marginalisation. Therefore, we must as a matter of necessity create an environment that is conducive for everyone. People must feel the impact of the government and that government is responding.” The governor also said south-easterners should negotiate for power rather than expect others to leave it for them. He said, “To our friends and brothers in the South-South and South-East particularly, only God gives power but you have to negotiate for power. Negotiation becomes easier when you make friends across the divide. If we negotiate for power, we don’t always get everything we want, but we will normally mention every clause that covers everything we need. “I said this because I have heard many people say ‘they don’t want to give us power’ but assumptions and projections will never actualise your aspirations. We must all remember that God gives power but human beings negotiate for it. Every interested party must be prepared to negotiate for it.” The governor also expressed reservation over the age limit of 40 as the minimum to contest the presidency, noting that in many countries around the world, people below 40 had become world leaders. He said, “Let me state here that I have a problem with the age limit set at 40, because whatever is the logic behind it, it is difficult to consider it valid in contemporary times.” https://infonets.com.ng/Thread-For-The-Fear-Of-Secession-Power-Should-Be-Shift-To-South-Zulum |
