The President, Bola Tinubu, has written to the Senate seeking its support on the deployment of military personnel to the Niger Republic.
He also sought the backing of the legislature on the cutting off of electricity to the country.
The PUNCH had reported that Niger’s democratically elected president, Mohamed Bazoum, was toppled by his guards.
Tinubu, Nigeria’s president and the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States, had on Sunday met with some fellow ECOWAS leaders to discuss appropriate ways to restore democracy in Niger.
The leaders of the West African regional bloc met to discuss sanctions to be placed against the military personnel who toppled Bazoum on July 26, 2023.
The President’s letter read, “Political situation in Niger. Following the unfortunate political situation in Niger Republic culminating in the overthrow of its President, ECOWAS under my leadership condemned the coup in its entirety and resolved to seek the return of the democratically elected govt in a bid to restore peace, ECOWAS convened a meeting and came out with a communique.”
The president further sought support for, “Military buildup and deployment of personnel for military intervention to enforce compliance of the military junta in Niger should they remain recalcitrant.
"Closure and monitoring of all land borders with the Niger Republic and reactivating of the border drilling exercise.
“Cutting off Electricity supply to the Niger Republic, mobilising international support for the implementation of the provisions of the ECOWAS communique.”
“Preventing the operation of commercial and special flights into and from Niger Republic; Blockade of goods in transit to Niger especially from Lagos and eastern seaports,” he added.
Tinubu also told the Senate that the country was embarking on sensitisation of Nigerians and Nigerians on the imperative of these actions, particularly via social media.

Just see below an unfortunate post put up yesterday by one fellow AfricanColumbus.

Many more of these treasonable posts have been put up lately. Why should certain fellows let our democracy be destroyed because of their selfish agenda; because their candidates didn't win elections!
This highly treasonable offence perpetuated by these unpatriotic individuals is unacceptable and denounced by all well meaning Nigerians.
This treasonable posts can put this forum into trouble with the National Security/DSS.
I think Nigeria should be the only country in the world that people can just post anything online, especially treasonable posts.. You DARE NOT try this abroad.. both in Europe & US. You'll be found, caught and tried immediately!
Seun, pls I advise you to put a reign on these individuals immediately! Thanks I hav a feeling u hav never stayed abroad. |

Puss360: It's obvious that men can't do without sex... Infact sex can never satisfy a man .... And they live to prove to the whole world that they are very capable... They keep wanting to marry a virgin... Yet their sex mileage is very high... Okay, after getting married to this virgin, they still go out to cheat , sex more... I keep saying it, Marriage isn't a charity home where a woman is given accomodation out of pity .... A woman who knows dat Life doesn't start or end in this marriage will know enough not to tolerate the frequent rubbish a man throws her way.... What excuse or statement will you present to justify your Promiscuous life as a man?? Rubbish... Na from blow fight dey start... If you as a woman don't take offence for the little inconsequential vibes of infidelity from your husband, one day him go carry olosho from the next street enter house... If u like be claiming feminist, u wasting ur time.ur husband will cheat n theres nothing u can do.u dnt hav a dick so u wont know how it feels to hav one |

The problem ECOWAS will encounter is a lack of public support from Niger Republic civilians. Yeah true.if its military no problem.bt if d people u wanna free dont want d freedom then its gonna be difficult. This niger issue is not an easy one.It is insulting for a country like mali n burki to threaten ecowas Nigeria.
