“The superlative agitations and other change regime actions outside the ballot box soon take advantage of the peaceful protests to push for their separative agenda.

The meeting endorses the indivisibility, indissolubility, and oneness of the nation.

“The meeting took note of the devastating effect of the uncontrolled social media in spreading fake news. Therefore, calls for major control mechanism and censorship of the social media practice in Nigeria before it gets out of hand the.......

Education / Original Speech Of President Buhari. by Beadysworld: 1:24pm On Oct 23, 2020
For those who missed it yesterday and those who want a memory of the president.
President Muhammadu Buhari says:
“Fellow Nigerians,

It has become necessary for me to address you having heard from many concerned Nigerians and having concluded a meeting with all the Security Chiefs.

2. I must warn those who have hijacked and misdirected the initial, genuine and well-intended protest of some of our youths in parts of the country, against the excesses of some members of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

3. On Monday 12th October, I acknowledged the genuine concerns and agitations of members of the public regarding the excessive use of force by some members of SARS.

4. The choice to demonstrate peacefully is a fundamental right of citizens as enshrined in Section 40 of our Constitution and other enactments; but this right to protest also imposes on the demonstrators the responsibility to respect the rights of other citizens, and the necessity to operate within the law.

5. As a democratic government, we listened to, and carefully evaluated the five-point demands of the protesters. And, having accepted them, we immediately scrapped SARS, and put measures in place to address the other demands of our youth.

6. On approving the termination of SARS, I already made it clear that it was in line with our commitment to the implementation of extensive Police reforms.

7. Sadly, the promptness with which we have acted seemed to have been misconstrued as a sign of weakness and twisted by some for their selfish unpatriotic interests.

8. The result of this is clear to all observers: human lives have been lost; acts of sexual violence have been reported; two major correctional facilities were attacked and convicts freed; public and private properties completely destroyed or vandalised; the sanctity of the Palace of a Peace Maker, the Oba of Lagos has been violated. So-called protesters have invaded an International Airport and in the process disrupted the travel plans of fellow Nigerians and our visitors.

9. All these executed in the name of the ENDSARS protests. I am indeed deeply pained that innocent lives have been lost. These tragedies are uncalled for and unnecessary. Certainly, there is no.....

Crime / Lawmakers Ask President To Demand That Security Agency Nationwide Stop Shooting by Beadysworld: 2:45pm On Oct 22, 2020
Nigerian lawmakers have called on the government to ensure justice was given to people killed during the peaceful #ENDSARS protest that took place across the country.

About 63 lawmakers in a joint statement condemned the use of force against Nigerian youth especially the police and army against just to dislodge them.

The lawmakers stated that while some leaders of the protesters must be publicly invited to an urgent dialogue, security operatives, who opened fire on protesters must be identified and prosecuted.

The statement reads, “We are appalled by the reliance on force, intimidation and manipulation by government and security agencies in an attempt to break the protest rather than utilising globally recognised methods of policing in a democratic society.

“We are enraged by reports of shooting of unarmed, defenceless protesters by military officers at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos after the lights were turned off and CCTV cameras put off.

“We call on the President to give an immediate order to all security agencies to stop shooting at protesters.

“We condemn this action by government and security agencies. This is inexcusable and totally unacceptable. There is no justification whatsoever for security officials who are paid with taxpayers’ money to kill unarmed protesters.”

They urged President Muhammadu Buhari to address the nation and take concrete actions to respond to the demands of the protesters.

The lawmakers also said the President must commit in words and action to respect and protect the right to protest stating that we have gotten where we are presenting because the protesters were agitating for the president to address them with insurance but that did not happen rather they........

Crime / Soyinka To Governors Demand Immediate Withrawal Of Soldiers by Beadysworld: 6:28pm On Oct 21, 2020
Elder statesman, Prof. Wole Soyinka, has called on governors in states where protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad forced declaration of curfews to immediately demand the withdrawal of soldiers deployed by the Federal Government.

The playwright, in a message on Wednesday from his residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State, titled, ‘DÉJÀ VU– In the tragic vein,’ spoke on the backdrop of the reported killing of unarmed protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos on Tuesday night after a 24-hour curfew imposed on the state by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

There have been peaceful protests across many states in the country against police brutality and the F-SARS, a unit in the Nigeria Police Force.

The Nobel laureate said, “To the affected governors all over the nation, there is one immediate step to take: demand the withdrawal of those soldiers. Convoke town hall meetings as a matter of urgency. 24-hour curfews are not the solution. Take over the security of your people with whatever resources you can rummage. Substitute community self-policing based on local councils, to curb hooligan infiltration and extortionist and destructive opportunism. We commiserate with the bereaved and urge state governments to compensate material losses, wherever.

“To commence any process of healing at all – dare one assume that this is the ultimate destination of desire?– the Army must apologise, not merely to the nation but to the global community – the facts are indisputable – you, the military, opened fire on unarmed civilians. There has to be structured restitution and assurance that such aberrations will not again be recorded. Then both governance and its security arms can commence a meaningful, lamentably overdue dialogue with society. Do not attempt to dictate — Dialogue!”

Soyinka noted that he said in his message to youths at the Freedom Park 10th anniversary events on Saturday, October 17, 2020, that they brought fresh blood into tired veins.

The playwright also said it was bliss indeed to be alive to watch youths finally beginning to take the future into their own hands, adding that with the protesters’ roadblocks in Ogun State and elsewhere, it was all déjà vu– the uprisings in the former Western Region of Nigeria and the anti-Abacha movement among others...... read more herehttps://beadysworld.tv/soyinka-to-governors-demand-immediate-withdrawal-of-soldiers/

Politics / Call Off The Protest, Tinubu Urge Protesters by Beadysworld: 11:45am On Oct 20, 2020
Senator Bola Tinubu, National Leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), has appealed to youths to give peace a chance and call off the ongoing protest now.

The APC leader made the appeal in a statement on Tuesday in Lagos, urging the youth to give the government a chance to implement their demands. According to him, the demands for fundamental police reforms by the protesting youths are in pursuit of our aspiration in our national anthem “to build a nation where peace and justice shall reign”.

He said that a society where those who were paid from the public purse to protect the lives and property of the people become themselves threats to the liberty, safety and dignity of the people is not one fit for free and decent people to live in.

“Such impunity and lawlessness are incompatible with the values and tenets of a democratic society governed by the supremacy of the rule of law.

“But then, the protesters must admit that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration has acted with commendable dispatch by not only scrapping SARS but also accepting the five-point demand that triggered the protests.

“This shows a laudable sensitivity to the grievances of the youths. It is only fair

Protesters, mostly youths as early as 7 am trooped out in major cities in Lagos, Ogun, Edo, Abia, Ondo, Ekiti, Oyo,Abia, Imo, abuja and Ebonyi states blocking roads and calling for police reforms.

We have seen videos of Hoodlums mobilised against the PEACEFUL and ORGANISED protesters destroying properties (cars) belonging to the general public, protesters and inflicting harms on innocent citizens even before the Men of Nigeria Police Force, and they did nothing but look along in admiration because the order is from above.
Those attacking properties are HOODLUMS/ THUGS engaged by the enemies of the people and the #EndSARS protesters must be disassociated from them and their activities.

Other Facebook users accused Government of being behind the act, that is impossible for Government not to be involved just to get at the peaceful protesters, considering the fact that no security personal was on ground at the time.

The #EndSARS protest continued in different parts of the country on Thursday, with protesters repelling attacks from thugs and security agents.

The attacks forced protesters in Lagos to hire bouncers to increase security at the protest grounds.

In Lagos, tragedy struck when two people were crushed to death during the protest in the Alagbado area of the state.

It’s gathered that a motorist, Nike Lawal, was driving recklessly when she rammed into a tricycle and killed two people at the AIT Junction, Alagbado.

The victims were identified as Ojo Azeez, 27; and Yusuf Sodia, 26.

While the demonstration was on in the Ikeja area around 8 am, hoodlums, suspected to be members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, invaded the protest ground.

We learnt that the men were armed with cutlasses, guns and axes and injured several protesters.

They were also said to have vandalised vehicles in a bid to disperse the crowd.

Footage trending online showed some of the injured protesters soaked in blood while seeking medical aid.

Some of the hoodlums were alleged to have been conveyed to the protest scene in a government-owned bus known as BRT.

An eyewitness, Seyi Adebayo, said the thugs attacked the protesters on the claim that the protest was affecting their businesses.

After the incident, the protesters regrouped and continued their agitations.

Crime / Banning Sars Not Enough #endsars Campaigners Laments With Experience. by Beadysworld: 9:58am On Oct 13, 2020
Nigerians have disagreed with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Muhammed Adamu over his directive to ban personnel of Tactical Squad from performing certain low-risk operations including mounting roadblocks, stop and search duties etc.

Following a sustained campaign against the brutality of the FSARS on Twitter, Nigerians called for total disbandment of the Squad and initiation of a genuine restructuring of the Police Force.

In a swift response to the ban, Nigerians quickly reminded the IGP that he and his predecessors had issued such statements banning FSARS from same duties since 2017 without any adherence to the order by the affected personnel.

While Nigerians have again taken to the social media to vent their anger, prominent voices in the entertainment industry had joined in the protest. Azeez Fashola also is known as Nairamarley tweeted that Nigerians need to start protesting in real life and not just on Tweeter. we need to stop protesting on twitter because that’s all we’ve been doing, We need to protest in real life, that way they will take us seriously and know we mean it

On Sunday Omoyele Sowore, publisher of Sahara Reporters and a former Presidential candidate responded to Fashola expressing delight at his decision to hit the streets in protest. “#Revolutionnow movement doesn’t protest on twitter.

We put our boots on the ground. On #October1stProtest, our fighters took over the streets globally. It is encouraging to hear you are ready for direct action another artist,

Ayodeji Balogun also called Wizkid took on President Muhammadu Buhari and Lagos state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu in series of tweets to protest the brutality of the FSARS against Nigerian youths.

In response to a tweet from President Buhari wishing United States President, Donald Trump, “quick and full recovery from Covid-19” he said: “ Donald Trump is not your business! Old man! Police/Sarz still killing Nigerian youth on a daily! Do something! Nothing concern u for America! Face your country!”

Politics / President Buhari Has Ordered Police To Harass #endsars Protesters—aisha Yesufu by Beadysworld: 6:03pm On Oct 12, 2020
One of the leading voices of the #EndSARS protests rocking different parts of the country, Aisha Yesufu, has alleged that the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has ordered the men of the Nigeria Police Force to attack protesters expressing their dissatisfaction over the brutality and extrajudicial killings by the operatives of the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the police.

Yesufu, who spoke in a Facebook Live Chat on Monday afternoon, said had the President not given the instruction, he would have sanctioned the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, for the several assaults on #EndSARS protesters by his men across the nation.

It has been reported that the attendant street protests which led to the disbandment of SARS turned violent in some parts of the country, with a protester identified as Jimoh Isiaka, shot dead in Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Saturday.

Buhari in a video on Monday subsequently said he had ordered a probe into the killing of the young man while noting that officials of the disbanded team found to be responsible for wrongful acts would be brought to justice.

Yesufu during the chat hailed Nigerian youths for “breaking the yoke of oppression” by trooping out to protest all over the country.

She said, “There is an order from Major General Muhammadu Buhari that they should shoot and clamp-on protesters. He is the Commander-in-Chief and he is the one who gives the final orders.

“The President has been on the streets several times protesting. He is the one who was teargassed in Kano when he went to protest that he lost the election with his running mate, Chief Chuba Okadigbo, who later died from the gas inhalation.

“He went to court. Femi Falana was his pro bono lawyer and it was said that the police have no right disturbing anybody, all they have to do is to protect people and it is so sad that it is the same President today who is clamping down on protesters Innocent Nigerians stopping them from exercising their legal right of expression.”

The reason I feel so convinced is the fact that Major General Muhammadu Buhari is the Commander-in-Chief and all the buck stops at his table. Anybody acting contrary to his instructions will definitely get a query and you see they aren’t getting any query. That means they are doing exactly what he wants them to do.

More than one week after the renewed call for the prescription of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad, the attendant street protests have turned violent in some parts of the country, with a protester identified as Jimoh Isiaka, shot dead in Ogbomoso, Oyo State on Saturday.

Apart from Oyo, the #EndSARS demonstration was marred by violence in which started bin Owerri, capital of Imo state when a police officer assaulted protesters physically and Osun, Abuja and Ogun, where a crowd of agitators stormed Owu festival on Saturday, demanding to speak with former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was at the event.

The nationwide protest was reignited last week following the shooting of youth reportedly in front of a hotel in Ughelli, Delta State, by some FSARS operatives who drove away from with his SUV.

The police have said the youth didn’t die, but the report has it that the youth died.

The Nigeria Police Force consequently banned FSARS and other special tactical squads from carrying out routine stop and search.

The protesters, however, claimed that the police authorities had not shown enough commitment to reform the dreaded police unit over the years and called for its disbandment.

Despite the Force’s call for calm, the protest raged on in several parts of the country, including Lagos, Delta, Imo, and also gained traction in the United States, United Kingdom, South Africa and Canada.

The protest was described as the most trended issue on Friday globally, according to @BBCAfrica, as Nigerians abroad joined in the demonstration. A rally is billed to hold in London on Monday.

Amid the protests in Nigeria, young Isiaka was reportedly killed by a trigger-happy policeman in Ogbomoso on Saturday, and yet unconfirmed case of one person killed in Allen avenue Ikeja Lagos with seven others sustaining varying degrees of injury.

Confirming Isiaka’s death, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, via his Twitter handle @seyamakinde, described the situation as regrettable and promised that investigation would be carried out into the incident.

He said the killing and assault on peaceful protesters were an indication of government failure and urged the residents to carry on with their protests peacefully.

He said, “I have received with deep sadness the news of the passing of one of our children, Jimoh Isiaka, who was shot during the #ENDSARS protest in Ogbomoso. He later died at Bowen University Teaching Hospital, Ogbomoso, earlier today (Saturday).

“Also, at this same protest, Abdulrasaq Olawale, Oluwadamilare Gbolohunmi, and five other persons sustained injuries and were taken to hospital for treatment. This situation is highly regrettable. I have contacted the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Nwachukwu Enwonwu, and other relevant agencies, and investigations into what led to the unfortunate incident are still ongoing.

“I pray that God grant the parents of Jimoh Isiaka the fortitude to bear this irreplaceable loss.”

Makinde said the situation called into question why state governors were called the Chief Security Officers of their states whereas they did not have the necessary powers to control the police force.

“Peaceful protests are a big part of our democratic process. The right to freedom of speech and assembly are guaranteed by our constitution, and I will never support any attempt to rob citizens of their fundamental human rights,” he said.

However, Oyo CP, Enwonu, debunked Isiaka’s killing saying that the police only repelled the protesters with tear gas.
