Maybe,the life of a pregnant woman may have been saved if the doctor that was to operate on her was not allegedly held by policemen enforcing the COVID-19 lockdown in lagos on the Airport Road, Ikeja, Lagos State.

We gathered that the surgeon was held for about one hour, as entreaties that she was on an emergency call, fell on deaf ears of police officers who where on duty.



After she was released, the doctor reportedly got to the hospital and discovered that both mother and baby were died.

Our correspondent was told that the incident happened on Monday, August 31 at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba, Surulere.

The deceased was identified only as Mistura.

A witness, who did not want to be identified, said the female doctor broke down in tears upon seeing that she could not save the victim and her baby.

He said, “The doctor is a woman. In fact, she was also ill and was placed on a drip at home when she was called about the emergency.

“Because her car was bad, she got a cabman to take her to the hospital. She left her house around past 9pm.



“Around 10.15pm, they got to the under bridge around Airport Road, where they met the policemen. They had been stopped by other policemen before they got to that particular spot.



But when she showed them her ID card, they allowed her to pass. “But these ones refused. After she showed one of them her ID card and said she was on an emergency to see a patient who was between life and death, the policeman ordered the driver to park. He took her ID card and asked her to prove she was on an emergency.

She went to meet another member of the team and begged him that she needed to leave immediately, and that the life of her patient was at risk.

She was in a nightgown; she could not even change when she got the call. But the second policeman shunned her.

According to Haruna, police detectives attached to Ogidi Division led by the DPO CSP Ekuri Remigius visited the scene and rushed the victim who was found in a pool of his blood to Iyi Enu Mission hospital Ogidi for medical attention where he was certified dead by the medical doctor on arrival.

He said a careful observation on the deceased body revealed a stab wound on his chest while a blood-stained Kitchen knife was also recovered at the scene as Exhibited.

The Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Victory has arrested a 16-year-old and seven other suspected smugglers of 1,522 bags of foreign rice in Calabar, Cross River.
Speaking to journalists during the parade on Wednesday, the Commander, NNS Victory, Commodore Idi Abbas, disclosed that the suspects were intercepted in two batches.Abbas said that the first group of four men were arrested on Sunday around Tom Short Island with a large wooden boat containing 1,482 bags of foreign parboiled rice.
He further revealed that the second group of four persons were arrested on Sept.
28 with two fibre boats, containing 40 bags of foreign rice, suspected to have been smuggled from Cameroon.
According to him, the confiscated items and eight suspects are hereby handed over to the Team Leader of Operation Border Drill for further investigations and prosecution.
“We have been up and doing as part of our patrol effort not only to check to smuggle but also curb all forms of criminality within our waterways.

The Nigerian Government said it has opened an investigation on the increase in subscription charges for pay-TV in the country on its citizens.

Nigeria’s Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) chief executive officer Babatunde Irukera in a statement said the investigation was in response to announcements by operators of different Pay-TV platforms in the country.



“Upon credible information, public announcements by operators, and consumer perception analytics, the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) have opened an investigation into the conduct of dominant Pay-TV service providers,” Irukera said.

Irukera said FCCPC’s action is in pursuant to the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) that established the agency.

DStv and GOtv subscribers are groaning after the Multichoice increased prices of bouquet twice in three months. The last increment came into effect on Tuesday.

MultiChoice said the latest review on the implementation of 7.5 per cent Value Added Tax (VAT) introduced by the Federal Government in early 2020.

With the adjustment, DStv Compact subscribers have their subscription raised by 13.3 per cent (N7, 900 up from N6, 975).



DStv Compact Plus subscribers have their rates increased by 9.8 per cent from N10, 925 to N12, 000. The DStv Premium was increased from N16, 200 to N18, 400 (13.6% hike).

Reacting to the price hike, Irukera said the FCCPC has conducted an investigation, pursued legal action in court to review the increase in charges.

Irureka disclosed that the FCCPC already “secured an injunction pre-empting price increase, entered specific orders regarding a provider, engaged in periodic surveillance and monitoring, and more recently inquired into a purported tax increase by at least one provider.

“The scope of the inquiry includes, but is not limited to questions about unfair dealings, unreasonable and manifestly unjust contract terms, abuse of market power, colourable pricing practices and other otherwise obnoxious or illegal conduct.

“This investigation is in order to address the Commission‘s concerns and publicly expressed consumer dissatisfaction with Pay TV services.”

The cleric, who was one of the people sent to Mekkah for Umrah (lesser Hajj) by Zamfara government in 2017, was alleged to have been caught with 1,497 red capsules carrying substances suspected to be tramadol trafficked via Ethiopian Air Flight 402.

He was later charged for drug trafficking, an offence punishable by death by the Public Investigation and Prosecution Bureau in Jeddah and the Saudi Anti-drug Agency.

Jeddah Criminal Court said his offence contradicted section 1 of Act 37 of anti-drugs law of the country.

But while giving final judgement on the case, the court ruled that the prosecutors failed to prove his evidence against Ibrahim who earlier pleaded not guilty to the offence. The court dismissed the case. Ibrahim Ibrahim has also regained his freedom three years after his controversial arrest. : Twitter Ibrahim’s hope of returning home was, however, dashed as authorities continued to seize his travel documents, consequently forcing him to stay in Saudi Arabia for three years. There was confusion on Saturday at the Great Salvation Christian Centre, aka Father’s Church, on Ako Aro Road, in the Ifako-Ijaiye area of Lagos State, after a man, Iberemu Osadebe, disrupted an ongoing wedding in the church.

He claimed that the bride, Gloria, was his wife.

We gathered that Osadebe had a traditional wedding with Gloria after they had a son together.

He, however, became sick for about five years, during which the time he sold most of his property to seek a cure.The Imo State indigene was said to have later travelled to his hometown in Isiala Mbano, where he continued the treatment.

Our correspondent gathered that he was on the sick bed when he received information that his wife of 20 years would be getting married to another man on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

The 43-year-old was said to have developed high blood pressure, which affected his speech.



He returned to Lagos on Friday, a day to the wedding, and reported his plan to disrupt the wedding at the Agbado Police Station.

Upon arriving in the church around 11am, some of the church leaders, who recognised him, appealed to him to let the matter go, which he rejected.

Security guards on the premises, however, bundled them out of the church, as pandemonium broke out in the assembly.

Osadebe, who spoke to jornalist amid stutters, said he was shocked that his wife betrayed him.

He said, “I was in a relationship with my wife for 20 years; we had a child together in 2011. My mother objected to our union because she is not from my tribe, but I said I loved her.

A tenant, Adekunle Adeyemi, has gone into hiding after allegedly stabbing a co-tenant, Stanley Dickson, to death in the Grammar School area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.

ENUGU—THE Supreme Court in a landmark decision, has upheld the right of a female child to inherit properties of her father. By this decision, the apex court has voided the Igbo age-long law and custom which forbid a female child from inheriting her late father’s estate.

A former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, has apologised for referring to a journalist, Eyo Charles, as “stupid”.

Fani-Kayode said this in a statement on Wednesday.

He said, “I met with my advisors till late last night and I wish to say the following.

I hereby withdraw the word ‘stupid’ which I used in my encounter with a journalist in Calabar.I have many friends in the media who I offended by losing my cool and using such words. I hereby express my regrets for doing so.”

The former minister, however, denied allegations that he was threatening to harm the Daily Trust reporter.

I do, however, wish to state categorically that no threat of physical harm was ever made to the journalist in question and neither did I send anyone to threaten him.

• Being over the age of 40: Although sleep apnea can happen at any age, the condition is most common among those over 40.

• Having a large neck: In men, this is considered as having a collar size of 17 inches and above; in women, 16 inches and above.

• Being overweight: Excess fat increases the amount of tissue in the neck, therefore placing pressure on the airway and increasing the chance of breathing being interrupted.

• Smoking: If you smoke you have a higher chance of developing sleep apnea, because of the irritating effect of the smoke on your throat tissue.

• Drinking alcohol: If you consume alcohol, especially in the evening before bed, this makes OSA worse because it both slows your breathing and makes your breath shallow.

A 26-year-old man, Patrick Onoja Igah, has been arrested for allegedly raping a 7-year-old girl inside the 7th wonder church premises in Owukpa area of Benue state over the weekend.


The spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Anene Sewuese Catherine, who confirmed this to LIB, said the suspect lured the victim who was out to buy something for her parents, into the church premises where he raped her.
