The issue in Oyo wasn't some 'state' matter - there was Federal Intervention. The IG must have given the order to drop the charges, and there's no one else who can plausibly give that order beyond for GEJ. The police is a Federal Institution so I don't buy this 'state' excuse.

How can you exculpate GEJ from such a decision taken for his brazen political gain at the primaries?

If he can circumvent the judicial process just to secure his ambition to win the party primaries, what lengths will he go to if he gets further challenges down the line to his presidential goal? huh
If the above were to be the case, then the man wouldn't even have been arrested in the first place.

Why has GEJ said/done nothing about the terrible things happening in Ogun state with the ridiculous impeachment going on?

Why was Folarin suddenly acquitted of murder charges ostensibly to attend the primaries and support GEJ?

Can Beaf or any other GEJ supporter provide a simple response to this without any reference 'Atiku style failed politics'.
There are many really horrible things occuring across the Nigerian landscape. There are bombings, assassinations, lawlessness and brigandage. there are the recurring Jos massacres.

All these are things Jonathan inherited from past govts and not solvable in a day. However you would note that he has indeed begun the process of turning around the PDP (witness their transparent primaries). Lets give each state level problem a little more time, national problems first.

@Beaf, I agree with you that true federalism is the most important reform we need at this point. I will also add a solid education system that will produce Nigerians capable of rational reasoning; Nigerians that will think with their head and not with their heart; Nigerians that will look beyond age, tribe, religion, class, and focus on the overall interest of the state; Nigerians that will know that elections are about them and not about the politicians or who wins.

For example, if you graduated for the past 3 to 4 years, yet you have no job, your concern (if you have a brain) is who among the candidates has programmes to deliver jobs so that at least within the next 2 years, you will be employed.

Another example, If you have been scoring above 180 in JAMB for the past three years and yet you have not been able to secure admission due to the low capacity of our institutions, your concern (again if you have a brain) should be who among the candidates have programmes in expanding access to tertiary education so that any student with a JAMB score of 160 and above will be able to secure admission. And so on.

Yes Jonathan, Ribadu, Buhari, may win, but the question is, how will their winning benefit you? That is what should be the primary concern of well educated voters.

@Beaf while I agree with most of your insight to the problems of Nigeria, I do not however share your opinion that GEJ is the man to deliver Nigeria or even start the process. GEJ is a part of the cabal that has held Nigeria in bondage for the past 12 years and as such it is not in his interest to reform Nigeria. Nigeria needs a leader with no affiliation to or loyalty for the existing establishment.

For now, I am a Ribadu man. He was dumped by the cabal and wrongfully removed from office. Now he has joined the progressives and is a lot cleaner and vibrant than GEJ.
Thanks a lot for your post, progressive minds quite clearly think alike. You will also note that in tune with your position on education as a foundation for the the country's development, GEJ has taken on the education of the almajiri (including changing their curriculum to include Western education); this is a first in the country and a radical approach to employment, productivity and security issues in the North.

For graduates remaining idle years after school, there are a lot of promising economic developments (notably in the power sector) which will revitalise the Nigerian employment outlook. GEJ believes very much in that the private sector is the true driver of development and intense work is going on in these areas, from provision of accurate statistics (a first in Nigeria), to creating enabling environments (eg the financial help for Nollywood), there are also very exciting openings for private power generation. Please seek out the forward plans of the FG in order to key in, you too could become an employer and soldier in Nigeria's development, GEJ is opening up the field.

Where we disagree, is in your strange claim that GEJ is part of the cabal. There couldn't be a longer stretch from the facts on the ground. Bear it in mind that Jonathan is the reason Ribadu is campaigning today, he was sent into exile by the cabal, but GEJ erased their trumped up charges against him. A true democrat and respecter of the law!

Politics › Re: Buhari Calls For 'TOTAL' Sharia In Nigeria by Beaf(op): 1:57am On Jan 17, 2011
gangar:
your article was ten years ago. Read an an interview with him on what happened,

I leave you guys with the excerpts from a buhari interview below

Question: General, I hope you’re aware that some years ago there was a controversy around a statement credited to you somewhere in Sokoto state in which you are reported to have said that Muslims should vote for Muslims. Now whether you were misquoted or not, whether you were misrepresented or not, that has caused some anxiety and some concern, understandably, to some Christians in the south of the country, in the Middle Belt, even in the north itself. So how do you intend to sell your candidacy to those people who have perceived you wrongly or rightly as a sectional candidate who is popular in the North because he is seen as the champion of Islam and Sharia? How do you propose to appeal to people who are concerned legitimately and anxious about you being a president who will implement Sharia nationally or who will limit the rights of Christians and promote the interest of Muslims? I want you to speak to those people.

General Buhari: Well, that perception remains. I know in 2003 I wrote to many Bishops and I could recall I visited (inaudible) in 2003 and 2007. As you said, it happened in Sokoto in 2000 before I participated in elections. The person who reported me by tribe is a Yoruba man, by religion a Muslim. He was not in Sokoto and does not understand Hausa, maybe he still doesn’t. How he got the story I don’t know. And the comment I made was that people in Sokoto know their people, that when the ban on politics is lifted they should choose the people that will represent them responsibly. This is common sense: if someone aspires to rule this country, he cannot afford to offend even pagans or even atheists—those who don’t even believe in God. These are the people that will vote. How can I say Muslims should not vote for Christians? Then do I expect Christians to vote me, a Muslim? I wrote to the Bishops. I explained to them, but I think, as you mentioned, perception, people hold on to their perception. Even the church leaders were careful to explain to their flock that there is no way any leader will, at the federal level, antagonize any of the religions. So, I wrote to the Bishops to explain but I am still very surprised that the perception remains.

So there is nothing I can do about it, but I will continue to explain my position. And I have backed it by facts that I have served the country’s military for 25 years. I did all the command and staff work, as a platoon commander to General Officer Commanding and the only still surviving officers that commanded three of the four commands in the Nigerian Army. And the Nigerian Army is about 75% Christian and nobody has ever said I took a decision against anybody because of his religion or his tribe. There are other tribes in the whole command. So, if for politically it sticks that I don’t like Christians, well it is very very unfortunate, but my performance in office at all stages has portrayed me as an impartial person, and I have believe that whoever is still bringing that case up, for whatever vote, will definitely fail in a free and fair election. The question of me being a sharia advocate and a hater of Christians has never happened and it will certainly fail.
Please note that in what you call a "defense", Buhari never even denied that he would implement sharia nationally. He simply dodged the question. WHY?

@IbrahimB
Thanks for your reasoned words. They are most welcome.

Easy for you and I to say, since we don't live in any affected areas like Jos. And I suspect that you (like me) can easily escape from Nigeria if Nigeria falls apart into chaos. But what about those who don't have an exit plan?
Well, those education programs you suggest will take 5 or 10 years to have an impact. And how do you know that education will even help things? You can only lead a horse to water, cannot force the horse to drink.
What coup are you talking about? The almajiri's do not command the army.
Simple observation shows that the cabal that has been shunted from power will go to any length, question is; why have they not been able to use their vaunted army? Perhaps the extent of their influence is simply the loudness of their vocalisations to which the weak have trembled.

Fear and intimidation have always been key weapons in their asernal. They have even threatened to shoot Jonathan several times, eg http://234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5512632-146/jonathan_honours_the_military_in_fear.csp

If neutralising their almajiri hoards is a 5 - 10 year project, then the only way to sort the problem in Jos (and elsewhere) is by staring the perpetrators directly in the eye with a mixture of diplomacy and hard action, just as govt is doing now. Appeasing almajiri's or quaking in fear because some loser has employed minors to storm the streets is the road to another cycle of failure. Times have changed in Nigeria, and they have changed drastically; it is now a World of merit where nobody will bow to ethnically driven terrorist tactics, its always better to get the terrorist.

The North deserves a better, dedicated and worthy leadership, and they will get it.

Goodluck Jonathan's Presidency has proven to be a total sham!. . .his PDPerian style of leadership is not much different from the previous administration's approach mostly highlighted with unquenchable thirst for power and a personal interest in the national purse. His character has also been badly affected to the extent where reasonable and smart Nigerians will rather believe the earth is flat than believe the first three statements that proceeds from his mouth. The moments that led up to election has proven beyond measures that the dude even though experienced in political affairs lacks the basic elements of quality leadership and agility.

We all have read news about how the President once blamed an unfortunate bomb blast on "Northern elements", a claim which till date lacks credibility. . . .more news of how Mr Jonathan spent the National resources recklessly importing dustbins, celebrating anniversaries, bribing delegates, bribing individuals and groups, all directed towards a selfish political end, . . to add to the fury, this same character has refused to deliver on his promise of fighting corruption, rather, the Haliburton probe report was thrown to the bins, and murder suspects set free, solely to add to his winning numbers at the PDP primaries.

These and more portrays the incumbent as a man without clear directions and one afraid to step on toes even if it meant for the good of man and country. How anyone will wish for this man to remain in power for another four years is beyond me, simply because he promised infrastructures and federalism. . .Hell, even the late Yaradua promised a 7 point agenda!

I have waited patiently for the "Ribadu" side to tackle the realistic scenario's below should the totally impossible happen, this is my third reminder, yet none have taken it up. Why? shocked

Interesting debate! The all conquering (albeit mistaken) corruption killer, Ribadu cannot fight corruption in high places!
What then are his credentials for the presidency? His experience is Nil and like Atiku, he will not even carry his own local government in an election. What are the credentials being preached? How can a man who is unknown in is home state be pushed at Nigerians? There's something fundamentally wrong there.

Ribadu, no doubt is a relatively good man as far as the Nigerian political scene is concerned, but his archilles hill is that he has zero experience of life outside a uniform.
He would do well to gain some experience in the diplomacy, patience and wisdom that are required to socialise and sell ideas in a civilian setting.

The man is so unprepared it is shocking anyone would devote a second to his already marooned dreams. Some might consider that statement harsh, but picture the following:
[li]By some miracle of tectonic proportions, Ribadu wins the election[/li]
[li]The House of Reps is 90% PDP[/li]
[li]The Senate is 90% PDP[/li]
[li]26 governors are PDP[/li]
[li]Ribadu storms in and begins ordering everyone about. . . 2 and a half weeks later, Ribadu is impeached[/li]
[li]Or, Ribadu smells the coffee, and since he cannot investigate corruption in high places, he simply joins in and pops champagne[/li]
Reality check. . .

Pointblanknews.com learnt that at his briefing with select media chiefs in Abuja on Thursday, Ribadu said he would not bother himself with the integrity of politicians who elect to sponsor his campaign.

When asked at the Wuse , Abuja briefing to justify his alliance with Tinubu who has been accused by his EFCC of laundering about N20 Billion of state's cash, Ribadu said “ I won't bother myself with the integrity of politicians that will sponsor my campaign as long as they won't keep their stolen money in my pocket”
http://www.modernghana.com/news/296644/1/2011-i-wont-bother-myself-with-the-integrity-of-po.html

Nigeria needs a cool, wise head like Jonathans, not boxer and wrestler types who have not given due consideration to the responsibilities they so casually propose to bear.

Jonathans quiet way is what the anti-corruption battle requires, the recent PDP primaries is an example. Compared to all other parties, it was a showpiece of excellence. We all counted the votes out of the transparent ballot boxes together. Way to go! cool

Here's another as well:

Nigeria: Former Ruler Calls for Imposition of Islamic Law Muhammadu Buhari, who ruled Nigeria from 1983 to 1985 after a military coup, has called for Sharia law to be imposed on the 123 million population, of which at least 40 percent are Christian. An Agence-France-Presse report quotes Buhari as saying, “God willing, we will not stop the agitation for the total implementation of the Sharia in the country.” In February up to 3,000 people were killed in riots when Sharia was imposed in the state of Kaduna.

Almajiri's will always be used by the vultures that colonised the North and brought rampant illiteracy, deseace and poverty to the region. Nigerians will continue to face up to them, the country belongs to us all.

The likes of Gbawe are preaching the politics of ethnic bigotry and cowardice, while the rest of us are embracing a new dawn where merit, not ethnicity is king.
For your info, GEJ's govt has kicked off a project for the FG to educate the almajiri, with Western education forming a part of their curriculum. This will make them into productive, rather than destructive cogs in society.
In the meantime, rather than profer or key into solutions, the Gbawe's of Nigeria continue to propagate and encourage the primitive politics of ethnic bigotry with statements of startling shamelessness like the below:

Gbawe: April is beset with unpredictable scenarios . I have stated it many time that abolishing zoning , with a GEJ win , may not happen , without serious reppercussion, when it is the most clannish region in Nigeria that loses out. The ACN , CPC and ANPP are all showing tacit acquiescence with zoning with how they are all fielding Northern candidates in their Presidential slot. Some of us educated folks , in our high-handedness, simply do not understand the sheer number of malleable illiterates running around joblessly and aimlessly. We think things can happen and consequences be damned , simply because we want it to , when in reality our Nation may not be ready for such events.
No sir! We do not give in to terrorism in any guise.

“Jonathan is not comparable to the other candidates like Ribadu or Buhari. It is like the difference between a people coming into a fight with an elephant and the other party coming with a tortoise.

You people keep decieving yourselves, thats how crackpot theories start. What GEJ did to Atiku is known as "strong tin" in Warri parlance.

pro01:
Master strategist? Since when did jonathan even need to strategize about anything himself? It is rather hilarious that anyone would think that Dr. Jonathan (as a man, not as president) is a better strategist/politician than the veteran gladiator called Atiku. The thing is just that as president and Commander-in-Chief, Jonathan has easy access to the best and brightest political 'thinkers' in the land who are backed by the majesty of state power to fashion the most ingenious strategic moves possible. In other words, the sheer quality and quantity of political manpower available to Jonathan - buttressed by the incalculable advantages derivable from his presidential incumbency - makes it almost impossible for any 'ordinary' politician to defeat him in a game of wits and strategy. So if Jonathan is making moves to reconcile with the likes of Atiku and Ciroma (with the 'no-victor-no-vanquished' gospel) in order to neutralize their angst and facilitate a smoother sail to victory in the presidential election, it is extremely unlikely that such moves originated from Jonathan's own political skills. His inner caucus of advisers, thinkers, and strategists (who are necessarily the best in the land) are to be deemed responsible. Jonathan himself is still largely naive politically as compared to the seen-it-all-and-done-it-all Atiku. But I expect him to learn pretty fast on the strength of the ongoing fierce politicking preparatory to the main election proper.
Story, story!
Deafening defeat is always accompanied by tales of denial and total disbelief. I'm sure Atiku still believes he won the primaries, even though he had to make so many fake phone calls to cover his grief!! grin grin grin

It is your story and it is a lie. That crap was forged when Ribadu was in exile, now the man is back and has said it repeatedly, that the story is false. So why are you lying?
Its a funny game, especially when exactly like Atiku, both GEJ's main opponents are tiny regional players?

Keep on with your toilet politics, you are only decieving yourself and no one else.

I de laf O! Ask Atiku where his heap of lies got him. grin grin grin grin

And then there was another case of sufficient transaction that has to do with Bayelsa State. About a woman who did a business with Bayela State- contract it was 70million Naira of sufficient fiduciary report that we got. We investigated it and there was nothing connected with Mrs Jonathan. Even as at that time those who were desperately looking to make a political mile out of every opportunity decided to use that to link it with them simply because they wanted to kick them out of office at that time. It's not me that can help people in political things. That's indeed that was what happened

Up to this very moment I ask people to bring out the case file they talking about. While she was invited or take a statement or anything. And you want me to come out and because I'm contesting against them? no never.

Atiku tried the lying route and failed woefully. That should be a lesson for all, GEJ has ushered in an era of clean politics; it is a period of great change for Nigeria. We utterly reject petty politics, mudslinging and libel.

@truly
Ribadu himself says your story about Patience Jonathan is a lie. So what are you arguing about? Do you just like lying?
