The Ibom Golf project in my view is shabby compared to TINAPA.Gov. Attah should be very ashamed to even mention Ibom Golf project anywhere TINAPA is been talked about.Now check this out!Gov Attah spent something like $50 million(state money) on the ibom golf course and I hear it took 8 years to complete.Gov Duke spent $50million(state money, the rest was private) on TINAPA and it took 3 years to complete.
The ibom project would not have anywhere close to $5 million dollars revenue both directly and indirectly in a year.Employment benefits- say 150 jobs maximum.
TINAPA on the other would bring in over a billion dollars yearly eventually and 15,000 jobs directly. Indirectly, the benefits are limitless.
Point is : Duke used less money to achieve Tinapa!!It show the difference in the quality of both leaders.
Anyways

My2cents, there are many Golf courses, in Naija Ofcourse the common people know what golf is. I lived in Jos, and I went golfing a lot there(There are 2 golf courses in Plateau state), the courses are pratically filled with people of all demography.
Hmmm, U don seem 2 know what the average Nigerian is.If a take a survey and ask nigerians on the street how golf is played,99.99% wouldn't know.Truthfully, as "educated and aristocratic" as I feel I am, I don't even know how they count scores in Golf.Don't have the slightest idea what the game is about!!Not 2 talk of the average nigerian!

dblock,

I am impressed with your knowledge of economics sha. As long as you can back up what you have said (especially the 60% part. I am curious as to where you got those figures. Hopefully it's not based on what you read from some oyibo article as I am sure you know, they don't have our best interests at heart),
Hmmm, the real black market figures should be somewhere in the region of70- 80%.I did a thesis on this topic, and I must say, the figure is much higher than 60%.
Check this out, majority of the second hand vehicles coming into nigeria from Europe and USA go in thru Cotonou. Custom never records them, so it never reflects in official records.Thats how many other sectors are.SO U CAN IMAGINE HOW LARGE THE BLACK MARKET IS!

TravelRe: Visa Wahala: ! by beavers007(m): 5:37pm On Apr 12, 2007
I am with u on the boycott thing!!I have enough American and British Visas and I've never been treated badly by any of the embassies,but i feel the pain of lots of Nigerians.

The problem is that Nigerians are blinded by desperation and nobody is going to listen to u on the boycott thing.All those applicants at the embassy today are hopeful that tomorrow they will have a better life in America.

I guess u were in that exact situation 2 weeks ago and wouldn't listen to anybody saying you should abort your dreams 4 a boycott.

So my advice to u is this, go to a simple E.U country first(not those nasty coun tries U mentioned) and from there U can easily move around the world.
TravelRe: Pictures Of the Comissioning Of Tinapa by beavers007(m): 5:14pm On Apr 12, 2007
Then you might wanna hike!Or better still u can use a bicycle, i dont think thats 2 bad.It will take you a maximum of three weeks from lagos to calabar.Or best still use a canoe from Badagry.Those are the only other alternatives!

TravelRe: Pictures Of the Comissioning Of Tinapa by beavers007(m): 9:57am On Apr 11, 2007
@Babasin
Aero is the safest and best.They have new planes and they fly calabar from Lagos.Don't worry very soon international flights would be coming into Calabar. Robbery is worse in Lagos than on the high ways.So if you can survive the lagos road, i shouldn't think the highways would be too much of a problem.

Nahh, Go to Abuja to settle.
Tinapa doesn't have enough residential projects planned.

People, U wanna know how successful Tinapa already is? The number of interests we already have here is a sure sign of success.I guess many of us here would definitely love to visit Tinapa soonest and we would spend some good cash.
Obudu is already a huge success.Calabar already has the one of the highest flight frequencies in the nation.Very soon I think Calabar would be the destination to beat.
TravelRe: Pictures Of the Comissioning Of Tinapa by beavers007(m): 7:55pm On Apr 09, 2007
Haba Babasin
Tinapa is almost completely a privately funded project. Now ,14 nigerian banks, a couple other foreign investors, Walmart, Shoprite, a whole lot others wouldn't invest in a project that wouldn't succeed.Man, Tinapa has already succeeded.
I'm proud of that guy Duke, I wish he becomes president sometime and soonest.

Buy 10 bags of Quality rice at 5000 naira per bag.
Share them into 2.5kg packs= 20 packs per bag.
Sell 2.5 kg packs in beautifully branded sachets to supermarkets,convenient stores,markets etc at 350-400 per pack wholesale.
Project Cost & Profitability.
10 bags of 50kg rice =200 packs of 2.5kg
10 bags 0f 50kg rice= 50,000 naira
Cellophane+Label packs=3 Naira/pack x 200= 600 naira
Distribution= 5000 naira
Marketing= 3000 naira
Miscelleanous=1400
Total Investmemt= 50,000+600+5000+3000+1400= 60,000
Return on Investment
200 packs at 400 naira each = 80,000 naira
You make a profit of 20,000 naira on your 60,000 investment.
It shouldn't take you 1 day to sell off 200 packs if you are a good marketer.On the other hand you can leave the marketing to an experienced distributor.
At 2000 packs a month or 80 packs a day you should be making a cool 200,000 naira per month on a 60,000 naira investment.
For a good sample of a nice pack, i can send u a mail.
There's a million other things you can start with a 100,000

Nairaland is the best place in Naija.Its like having 411(Information service), 911(emergency service) and room service all in one.Every question u ask,people answer graciously.I always feel like the best nigerians live in nairaland and Seun lives here the most(he has 13000+ posts) so he must be the best nigerian,
Anyways great job, i've learnt so much here.
But one question, Seun, whats up with da arrogaaaaaance!! I know, It's your world , Rule it!
BusinessRe: Moving To Nigeria To Start A Business by beavers007(m): 10:49pm On Apr 05, 2007
Your idea of localizing the products is just right.You Know, one of the most successful soap brands in Nigeria is Dudu Osun.Its the very local black soap that our forefathers used and yet the owners were able to make it into a premuim brand.Lux and Joy(most common brands) sell for about 30 naira while dudu osun sells for something like 80-100 naira.
So really I don't see the Asian brands as a major obstacle especially if you make your brand premuim.
Fact is - use of cosmetics is a class thing and most of those asian brands are competing for the lowest end of the market.
On the thought of producing 4 the poor children, forget it.These kids don't care much about toiletries.Focus on the emerging middle class.It is huge.
The perfume, nah, nah, nah!Ah ah, perfume is a signature statement.That is a whole different game entirely.Leave that one to the celebrities.
BusinessRe: Moving To Nigeria To Start A Business by beavers007(m): 2:09am On Apr 05, 2007
Good move Pepsi2.Business is good in nigeria.I returned over a year ago and really I'm impressed.Since you are Liberian American, if u can keep your accent down a little bit, u wouldn't need the constant security.However you might need them at your facility.Mobile police in the Niger delta cost us about 700 dollars per month for two.I guess Lagos would be cheaper.
As per serviced flats, those things are way too expensive.Some charge as much as 100 usd per night, others charge more.That's almost as expensive as manhattan or london. I'd reccommed u stay in serviced flats for a month then get a personalized place for the long term.
Don't forget that in manufacturing in Nigeria, electricity is the biggest problem.
Best of luck.

BusinessRe: Do You Have Many Ideas? by beavers007(m): 8:54pm On Apr 03, 2007
Great Fisco, I gat as many ideas too, I love ideas!!!.And Naija is full of potential to realize much of these ideas.Every where i turn, I see a potential goldmine!!

Pompey
1}I've gat a visciously radical idea for distribution in Nigerian movie and music industry.The market is large,potential is huge and costs very little.Very Far from what the average nigerian entrepreneur would imagine.I obviously woildn't give much details here,
2}I have another mean idea , It focuses on the young and upwardly mobile nigerian graduate (employed or unemployed) with entrepreneural instincts. In one shot, he is given an opportunity to invest and get returns on that investment, obtain funding for his/her dream business venture and at the same time be trained and guided in his new venture+ much more.Sounds senseless,but if u hear the full deal, you'll be amazed.And I tell u the market is so, so large!
3}The third one has to to with franchising, its also very radical.
These are the amongst the least from the whole pack. And all ideas are really costless.
Hala back pompey and I can spill a lot more details if u are truly what you say you are.
