PoliticsRe: Buhari Backs CBN Over Old Naira Deadline Amid Outcry For Extension by Bebigiby:
"The Presidency in a statement said Buhari insisted that the deadline is “aimed at people hoarding illicit funds and not the common man, and that it had become necessary to prevent counterfeits, corruption, and terrorist funding.”

Terrorist funding? What is Emefiele still doing as Nigeria's CBN governor and why is he not in jail?

See https://saharareporters.com/2023/01/18/exclusive-how-investigation-secret-police-dss-linked-nigerian-central-bank-governor

Corrupt Buhari and his evil government can only deceive the gullible....

The Presidency, however, said Buhari notes the public complaints but assured that there will be no disruption in business and other supply chains of the economy as the deadline will remain.

How does this part of the report make sense? Businesses and supply chain already disrupted by the policy.... This government is a disaster!
PoliticsRe: Buhari Backs CBN Over Old Naira Deadline Amid Outcry For Extension by Bebigiby:
After reading the comments made on this topic, I can boldly conclude that we are in trouble. If this is how myopic many of our youths are then we have a long long way to go. It is sad to see many Nigerians who are suffering as a result of this evil CBN naira redesign agenda continue to support it. They say it will stop vote buying and I laugh. If Buhari's main reason for this policy is to fight terrorism and vote buying then we can say that CBN is no longer a monetary regulator but now a political tool deployed to serve APC agenda for the election......it is not CBN's job to tackle vote buying or insecurity......

How can Buhari who allegedly rigged 2019 election be concerned about vote buying in 2023 election?

Nigerians, especially the youths need to wake up to Buhari and Emefiele's deception and understand that the naira redesign drama and cashless policy is aimed at stifling opposition parties funding, destroying our economy and cash monetary system to further their digital payments tyrannical agenda.....note that this policy will not affect Tinubu....

They say.... Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me..... Nigerians be wise!

I've warned Nigerians severally on this forum that Emefiele's plan is to destroy Nigeria's economy and cash monetary system..... The last 8 years is a testament to the true motive of those running this evil government. It is indeed sad that Nigerians are left at the mercy of Buhari, Emefiele and the evil party called APC....

I still pity those jubilating and praising the evil CBN governor for the untold hardship unleashed on Nigerians over the naira redesign and cashless policy, it is only a matter of time you all will face the consequences when all is said and done.... In saner climes, public officials like Emefiele who was exposed to be funding terrorism (https://saharareporters.com/2023/01/18/exclusive-how-investigation-secret-police-dss-linked-nigerian-central-bank-governor), desecrated his office by meddling in politics (https://punchng.com/apc-chairman-confirms-emefieles-membership-says-cbn-gov-registered-feb-2021/) turning a sensitive institution like the CBN into a political theatre will be jailed and made to vomit the funds he embezzled (https://saharareporters.com/2022/12/14/how-nigerias-central-bank-governor-emefiele-diverted-n89trillion-stamp-duty-fund-private)

In my opinion this CBN naira redesign was unnecessary and has no benefit to the economy. By the time amount spent (embezzled) in redesigning the naira is exposed, it may not be child's play when compared to the recent Accountant General (AGF) scandal!
PoliticsRe: Let’s Use Old, New Notes For 6 Months — Reps by Bebigiby: 2:24pm On Jan 27, 2023
It is not CBN's job to curtail vote buying, if the only thing you can see in this policy is how it will affect vote buying then CBN has failed again in it's mandate. We have EFCC, INEC and other security outfits to tackle this issue, your sentiment should be directed at them on why they fail to do their job. The CBN deadline needs to be extended as it is unrealistic and will hurt our economy.

SpecialAdviser:
Thunder fire all you criminals. New naira note deadline remains. Go hug transformers

You want to share 5k to buy our future and see us suffer for nothing. Later you will be hearing budget padding here and there. God will punish all the people that have enslaved Nigerian masses. You buy their future and see your people JAPA from their father land just because of your greed.

How can a man be sharing 5k per electorate and still perform after election? Impossible!!!
The day I fell in love with Peter Obi is the day he dropped out of PDP primaries because he refused to share monies to delegates. A billionaire for that matter ooo. He later said he would rather prefer to lose doing the right thing than win doing the wrong thing. Legend!!!

How can Atiku be contesting president for the past 4 dispensations? Where is the man getting his money from?. Barawo. And some mad people are still campaigning for him and Tinubu. Just because of tribalism. As if fuel and food is sold in the market based on tribes.

Enough is enough, we either build our nation or we continue to be slaves living an unprogressive nation. I no get una time sef.
PoliticsRe: Let’s Use Old, New Notes For 6 Months — Reps by Bebigiby: 2:02pm On Jan 27, 2023
"....But it says that 2, 3 to 5 months after, even in June, any old notes presented to the banks shall be redeemed by the banks. That point needs to be made to the Central Bank and to the public. It has not been made. It’s a provision of law....."

It is obvious that many reacting to this post did not read it. What house of reps is pushing is inline with best practices as regarding CBN naira redesign policy. They are simply following the law as stated above. Emefiele's reckless actions and impunity needs to be curtailed to restore sanity in our polity. Again those supporting this CBN deadline are too self-centered to see the negative impact it is causing on our economy.
BusinessRe: CBN Bans Dollar Charges On Domestic Transactions by Bebigiby: 1:49am On Jan 27, 2023
How can a seating CBN governor who has desecrated his office as a card carrying APC member (See https://punchng.com/apc-chairman-confirms-emefieles-membership-says-cbn-gov-registered-feb-2021/) deserve commendation from Nigerians?

You're naive if you think Emefiele's new policy will stop vote buying. Also the last time I checked it is not CBN's job to combat vote buying or insecurity. One will ask what then is the job of INEC, EFCC, ICPC, Police and our other security outfits? (The CBN is not INEC neither is it a department of the Nigerian police force).

You said "If emiefele didn't dump the kids gloves and chose to go hard-core, the Naira was confidently heading to a #1000 to the dollar...." Again it is Emefiele's fault for the astronomical rise in exchange rate, seem you've forgotten CBN banned sale of forex to BDC (See https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/475998-breaking-cbn-bans-sales-of-forex-to-bdcs.html) and also threatened to stop selling forex to banks. If you really think that Emefiele's recent policy will stop Tinubu or help Nigerians then you don't know what's going on. As I said in my earlier post he is not on your side.

ehissi:
I think this statement is purely sentimental, the only reason you still have an economy left is because of emiefele.

For the record, the CBN govenor is not responsible for managing economy, that bulk stops at the door of Mr President......

Currency, regulation of financial systems and title of exchequer of the Nation, that's his responsibility.....

It's just people look up to him to balance up, when the executive make a mess, and this government's mess is a shitload of a mess!!

His Job is on economic issues is to complement what government is doing, how can an exchequer compliment a government whose official policy is borrow to fund consumption?

No policy to boost local trade or manufacturing.

For the record, as far back as 2018, analysts opined that the actual value of the dollar to the Naira was actually #1200, emiefele was serious wedging the himself between that value and what we have today...

THE MAN DESERVES COMMENDATION AND NOT CONDEMNATION!

And another thing, Please the election is actually the incentive for his current actions. He is not really trying to boost the naira magically to #200 to the dollar......

Considering how politicians use dollars to large volumes of cash against electoral expenditure, he is trying to wedge himself to force a steep decline in value!

If emiefele didn't dump the kids gloves and chose to go hard-core, the Naira was confidently heading to a #1000 to the dollar and would have gone further beyond that if not for this new policy direction.....
BusinessRe: CBN Bans Dollar Charges On Domestic Transactions by Bebigiby:
I will say any monetary policy that takes away people's ability to choose, is bad and must be rejected. The deliberate effort by CBN to destroy Nigeria's cash monetary system, should be of great concern to everyone.

In 2015, naira was N197 to $1 since then we have seen how the bad polices of Buhari's government and Emefiele's devaluation of naira have led to the astronomical rise of naira to N800 to $1. It is unfortunate that there are still Nigerians on this forum who are praising the CBN governor and applauding every evil policy Emefiele unleash on the people. We can only look back to see the true intentions of the men behind this evil government and how callous they are. They have ruined the economy and destroyed the gains Nigeria made as at 2015. I hope Nigerians see through the veil of Emefiele's deceit and know how he contributed in destroying our economy.

A leopard can not change it's skin, Emefiele is not on your side. He is actually destroying our economy and monetary system with each new policy. What good can come out of this evil government? Election is in few weeks time and you think Emefiele who with his bad policies took the naira from N200 to N800 to $1 will magically boost the value of the naira.

ehissi:
If only I know what emiefele is thinking......but in my opinion, the reason why most people want the CBN govenor to extend the deadline is the reason why he really shouldn't!

For the first time, the CBN govenor is in a position of power, February is supposed to be that time year when an unusual amount of money will be in circulation, dollar and Naira....

He is trying to boost the value of the naira by restricting the actual use of the naira and triggering a hyper demand......

Also if he is thinking, what I think he is thinking, use the excess old notes in the system as leverage especially in the rural areas to pull the unbanked into the banking system!!

So this I think will work, refuse to extend the deadline, allow the elections and the protest following invalidated currency to increase, then let people change the money on the grounds that it must be deposited in a bank account!!

Place restriction and charges accordingly on certain volumes of cash accordingly, that way people don't use it as a business, where one person is helping 20,000 change old notes.....

It can work

It is obvious that with each new policy, CBN governor Emefiele is an enemy of this country. Nigerians should be vigilant and question every new monetary policy introduced by this evil government. There is a deliberate effort by CBN to destroy cash based monetary system in favour of digital payment to further their tyrannical agenda. It is sad that we have no one left in government or the national assembly to reign in on the executive arm and forestall the gradual destruction of our country.

Emefiele has gone rogue, intoxicated with power as he dish out policies with out any form of accountability or oversight. I just read that the house of reps is threatening to arrest him and other bank officials over their refusal to honor screening invitation see https://www.channelstv.com/2023/01/26/naira-notes-reps-threaten-to-issue-arrest-warrant-on-emefiele/

The major issue ain't just the charge on the excess cash. You'd need to state a reason why you need the excess while submitting your TIN (for corporations), Any recognized national means of identity, BVN and the banks GMD/CEO approval is required. Secondly, note that you can only access above the limit (if approval is given) once a month.

It is being linked to BVN so having multiple accounts won't help.

This might greatly reduce kidnapping or ransom money becomes lower as cash won't be readily available and local kidnappers have no know-how to create an untraceable account to receive transfers.
It will not reduce kidnapping or crime. The high crime rate in Nigeria is as a result of bad economy and unemployment. CBN cash withdrawal limit policy will not benefit Nigerians and the economy.

Let me correct a fundamental mistake, money belongs to government not individual they assigned a value you hold. (You have no privacy of what is not your property)

Also, cash cost is bore by the government not individual. (Printing, logistics and security)
Literarily government owns the physical currency and coinage in your pocket but you own the value of the money in your pocket, you're technically wrong when you say government assign value to currency as the currency derives it value from trade and other economic activities of the people. Without people's faith in naira it becomes a worthless piece of paper.

CBN has the power to make monetary policies, devalue the currency, recall cash and issue replacements of the same value. Also, CBN do take in damaged bills from banks and destroy it, issuing new bills to replace it.

This could also happen if CBN were to redesign currency and then recognize a flaw, requiring additional changes.

You said "You have no privacy of what is not your property..." wow that's an interesting statement, Nigeria constitution supersedes all government policies as the right to privacy is one of the fundamental human rights entrenched in the Nigerian Constitution. See https://streetlawyernaija.com/section-37-38-right-to-privacy-freedom/

You said "Also, cash cost is bore by the government not individual." Well it is tax payers that fund government so it is the people that bear the cost of printing naira currency.

You fail to see the bigger picture regarding CBN cashless policy and eNaira CBDC which is bad for Nigeria and need to be scrapped.

I think the main issue with electronic payment system is reliability and security of funds. It shouldn't be an issue to track what you are doing with money if it's legal.

You see 90% of cash my movement is illegal. £50 transactions are not the target. Also, the cost of maintaining cash is huge on government so it just make logic sense to cut back.
You said "It shouldn't be an issue to track what you are doing with money if it's legal." Yes that's why I said it should be left to the individual to choose and not by government mandates, people who want to use electronic payments are fully aware that transactions are logged so that's not an issue.

You said "You see 90% of cash movement is illegal." If I choose to withdraw all my savings in the bank in cash does that make it illegal? I think it is wrong to generalize that 90% of cash movement is illegal as people have different spending habits and not many like to use electronic payment systems. Cash enables you to spend without any middle man which is good for privacy and control. I am guessing you made this assertion due to the high rate of insecurity in Nigeria as terrorists, kidnappers demand ransom in cash. I understand your sentiment, I will maintain that Nigeria's security challenges is mainly as a result of our bad unproductive economy and unemployment. Making polices that will limit cash or scrap cash as means to fight insecurity is like putting lipstick on a pig. There are still genuine reasons why law abiding citizens use cash as opposed to electronic payment. Cash is not just for criminals, anyone proposing cash as been part of the problem for high rate of insecurity in Nigeria is only been naïve. Before the advent of debit/credit card payments, we used mainly cash in the 1970s/80s/90s and you can attest to the fact that Nigeria had less security challenges back then.

You said "....the cost of maintaining cash is huge on government so it just make logic sense to cut back" I believe you're saying this because you prefer electronic payments and you're used to it. Government policies are not always based on logic as human beings are not computers or robots, good monetary policies are not made based on cost but wide consultation of all stakeholders including rural dwellers, businesses, traders and market women (Especially those that use cash for business transactions)

BusinessWhy CBN eNaira And Cashless Policy Is Evil by Bebigiby(op):
In the last thread I created titled "Why CBN Cashless Policy Is Bad For Nigeria" I listed 7 reasons why CBN's cash withdrawal limits and cashless policy is bad for Nigeria. You can open the link open link to learn more.

https://www.nairaland.com/7474034/why-cbn-cashless-policy-bad

In this thread I will share a video that analyses the implications of CBN's digital currency eNaira using UK's new CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) as a case study.

I've stated in previous threads that the deliberate effort by CBN (Central Bank Of Nigeria) under the leadership of Emefiele to gradually remove cash and force electronic payment is ploy to further centralize government control and create what many people call a beast system where people will have little or no right to criticize or influence evil government policies (A Financial Prison like China's social credit score system but worse)

It is unfortunate that many Nigerians are still sleeping or unaware of the evil digital control grid that Buhari's government is gradually implementing with the recent launch of the eNaira CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) see https://enaira.gov.ng

Don't be carried away by media propaganda that there is no plan to replace naira with the new CBN controlled eNaira as that is the plan. In order to understand the implications of CBDC, watch the video below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kazsyWAeiUk

We can't ignore the many benefits that come with electronic payments. You see, the main issue here is choice. People should be allowed to choose between cash and electronic means of payment. There should be no deliberate government policies to kill cash as a means of payment (But Emefiele continues to roll out evil anti-cash policies). Both cash and electronic means of payment have disadvantages so one can't replace the other.

The gradually removal of cash and enforcement of electronic payment by CBN is bad and if nothing is done by Nigerians or the national assembly to stop it, will eventually create a totalitarian state in Nigeria were we will lose our privacy and rights to criticize or hold the evil government accountable. We must reject and reverse these policies now if we are to maintain a free society in future.
PoliticsRe: Cash Limits Not Anti-People, CBN Insists, Reps Knock Emefiele by Bebigiby: 10:38am On Dec 23, 2022
This CBN policy is a clear violation of your right to earn and spend your money. No one should dictate to you how you should spend your money and the amount to spend since it is your money. I've read reactions of Nigerians who are supporting the cash withdrawal policy as a good policy and I wonder on what premise is it good to violate people's right to access and spend cash?

Many people are saying that this new policy will combat vote buying in the next election and insecurity. The last time I checked it is not CBN's job to combat vote buying or insecurity. One will ask what is the job of INEC, EFCC, ICPC, Police and our other security outfits? (The CBN is not INEC neither is it a department of the Nigerian police force)

How can CBN under the leadership of Emefiele implement such an intrusive policy without consulting with Nigerians and without the input of the national assembly?

Nigerians should reject this evil policy and urge the national assembly to reverse it. This policy will only benefit the banks (Charge more transaction fees and implement predatory policies), the ruling party (APC) and Emefiele the CBN governor (It was revealed in 2021 that Emefiele registered as an APC member).

Cash has been in existence as a legal tender long before electronic payment system. How does this apply to your statement "If over 200 million persons are allowed to make a choice, then nothing will work...." I've listed reasons why a pervasive cashless policy like the one CBN is proposing is bad for Nigeria.

You said "Governance is not about taking populist decisions but taking hard and fast decisions for the betterment of the country....". If you think CBN's new cashless policy is good for the country then tell us why.

You said "Also, you lack knowledge of macro economic analysis for you to say Emefiele's policies damaged the value of the naira..." Since the emergence of Buhari's government in 2015, can you count the number of times Emefiele has devalued the naira even after assuring Nigerians that it won't be devalued? Can you count the number of monetary policies introduced by Emefiele only to reverse it due to the negative impact on the economy?

You said "Now, if the inflow of dollar is restricted due to global economic meltdown while our insatiable lust for imported goods increase daily, what do you think will happen...." I am not disputing the fact you made regarding dollar and imported goods. The reason for this thread is not exchange rates or importation but CBN's new cash withdrawal policy which is a violation of our right and bad for our economy. The deliberate effort by CBN to remove cash and force electronic payment as the only means of payment is wrong and must be rejected if we are to maintain a free society.

Both means of payment have disadvantages so one can't replace the other. The new cash withdrawal policy will violate our right to earn and spend. This policy is bad for the economy as it is been forced on Nigerians.

Also, you can see overtime how Emefiele's bad policies have damaged the value of the naira so we deserve better as a nation. The new cashless policy is bad.

In an ideal situation, Emefiele should've been removed as CBN governor based on the revelation that he registered as an APC member in 2021 and allegedly bought APC presidential nomination form. The level of impunity, brigandage and lawlessness exhibited by Buhari and members of his cabinet is appalling. The house of reps and senate should initiate the immediate reversal of the cash withdrawal limits imposed by CBN.....

The new CBN cashless policy is a clear violation of your right to earn and spend your money. No one should dictate to you how you should spend your money and the amount to spend since it is your money. But then this is Nigeria were it seem anything goes under Buhari's government. I've read reactions of Nigerians and listened to some government officials applaud the CBN cash withdrawal policy as a good one and I wonder on what premise is it good to violate people's right to access and spend cash?

Many people are saying that this new policy will combat vote buying in the next election and insecurity. I laugh because the last time I checked it is not CBN's job to combat vote buying or insecurity.
