If you read my post I made it clear that I was not in support of Nigerians participation in the last election…. I did not support Obi, Tinubu or Atiku, I’ve been a proponent for the total restructuring of Nigeria’s political system…. I had pushed and still continue to push for a reset of Nigeria’s political structure that empowers states and regions….. Nigerians can not achieve any meaningful progress without a total restructuring and decentralization of the government….. My guess is that you’re a Yoruba Man and your support for Tinubu is mainly tribal, this is understandable…. If Tinubu’s government was doing well, Nigerians will not be protesting…. There is nothing to gain by supporting a bad government…. The current economic crisis and the resultant effects of unabated increases in cost of living is not acceptable and that is why Nigerians are protesting…. You should be able to see that this protest is motivated by the poor state of the economy…. It has nothing to do with the last election or Peter Obi’s supporters…. The best thing that can happen to Nigeria today is for the country’s political system to be totally decentralized, let each state/region own it resources and run its government independently…. haffaze777: |
Tinubu’s refusal to address Nigerians over the nationwide protest is a clear validation that he is not fit to lead the country…. This is to show you that the protesters are right…. there is indeed bad governance in Nigeria…. Over 10 protesters have been killed already…. He does not care about the plight of Nigerians or the damage his government policies have done to Nigeria’s economy…. favor914: |
You can’t threaten me as we are not in a dictatorship…. Why not proffer solution to the problems facing Nigerians instead of resorting to empty threats….. haffaze777: |
An interim government is part of democracy as it is not a coup…. I did not advocate for the illegal removal of Tinubu…. Resignation and impeachment is constitutional…. Nigerians have the right to demand for the dissolution of this government if they have lost faith in the government….. they have the right to withdraw their mandate…. The current situation of the country has become unbearable for many Nigerians…. This is why this protest will not end until urgent action is taken to restore hope to Nigerians…. haffaze777: |
Yes this is why I will continue to appeal to Nigerians to look beyond tribalism and push for the establishment of an interim government to implement reforms needed to salvage the country before 2027…. Tinubu’s bad government has nothing good to offer Nigerians….. Kobojunkiee: |
You think it is a good? Some of you don’t know how severe the situation is in the northern part of the country…. This protest will consume Tinubu’s government…. seanfer: |
Many comments with fake likes on this thread are made by APC agents to downplay the issues raised….. your diversionary propaganda has failed as Nigerians know better…. Philipponzaghi: |
If nothing is done to checkmate bad government excesses, a time will come when Nigerians will look back and wished that they took the opportunities presented today to unite and salvage their country….. |
Tinubu can not succeed because of the corrupt and nepotistic structures of his government…. Those who believe that he has any plan on how to salvage Nigeria’s economy are only wasting their time…. The government is only good at taxing Nigerians, borrowing to loot and pushing propaganda to divide the masses…. Look at how much that he has borrowed since last year running into trillions of Naira and yet things are getting worse as cost of living continues to rise…. The truth is that Nigeria’s political structure is flawed, it doesn’t foster unity, Nigeria’s institutions have been weakened and compromised by those who seek to undermine the nation’s democracy…. We can not make any meaningful progress as a foundational reset is necessary to decentralize constitutional powers, this can only be achieved through an interim government….. Tinubu can not and will not change the status quo that brought him to power…. Salewa97: |
The situation has become unbearable that is why Nigerians are protesting…. You can not beat a child continually and expect the child not to cry…. You said that we should give the government time and I ask time to do what? Since May last year, what policies have the government made that have been good for Nigerians…? this government failed from day 1 by removing subsidies and floating the Naira without any preparation or assessments, they have shown no remorse by increasing taxes, borrowing and spending recklessly, buying SUVs while Nigerians bear the brunt of a hopeless economy, Nigerians can not continue to fold their arms and allow the bad government to continue to kill them…. If many Nigerians have chosen protest as a means of survival then no one can stop them from protesting as it is their fundamental right to do so…. Let Tinubu and those in government find a lasting solution to the problems affecting Nigerians or resign if they don’t know what to do….. Nigerians are already dying over harsh economic conditions, many more will perish before 2027 if nothing is done to avert the total break down of order and collapse of Nigeria’s economy….. Chinkoalhaji34: |
Tinubu cannot afford to change the status quo that brought him to power… his government is incapable of implementing the reforms that protesting Nigerians are asking for…. There is need for an interim government to address pressing political an economic structural issues affecting Nigerians before it is too late…. sIfioksq: |
You’ve spoken well but the truth is that the situation has become unbearable that is why Nigerians are protesting…. You can not beat a child continually and expect the child not to cry…. You’re right that Nigerians had so many occasions to stop what is happening now but do we fold our arms and allow the bad government to continue to kill our people….? It is never too late to correct our mistakes even though it will mean paying the ultimate price in the process of doing so…. If many Nigerians have chosen to protest now then no one should be discourage them as it is only the one that wears the shoe that knows where it is paining him…. Let Tinubu and those in government find solution to the problems that Nigerians are protesting against or resign if they don’t have anything to offer….. |
Before the August 1 nationwide protest, I shared a list of workable demands that Nigerians should agitate for during the protest. The first demand I pointed was for Nigerians to push for the resignation of Tinubu and the dissolution of the government to pave the way for the establishment of an interim smaller government. This demand was borne out of the fact that Tinubu lacks the capacity to unite and lead this country, his government will not listen to Nigerians, the government is insensitive, incompetent, it is incapable of implementing political and economic reforms that protesters are agitating for. You can see that even after the carnage that was unleashed yesterday were several peaceful protesters were killed by trigger happy policemen, Tinubu has refused to address Nigerians or show genuine concern to the plight of Nigerians. If Nigerians truly want this country to progress, the number one demand for the nationwide protest should be to push for an end to this bad government…. Nigerians have a golden opportunity to move this country forward through this protest by uniting and capitalize on the momentum of this protest and push for a lasting solution to the nation’s problems…. It was unfortunate that many Igbo people yesterday decided to play tribal politics by not joining other well meaning Nigerians to protest…. obviously this decision was taken due to a widespread propaganda against them, it is true that collectively Igbos have been targeted continually by hateful propaganda perpetrated by malicious government agents and Nigerians, this was evident especially during the last election but two wrongs don’t make a right, the economic crisis facing Nigerians knows no tribe or religion as it is been felt by everyone, the Igbos even though many of them no longer want to be part of Nigeria should know that they can’t actualize their dream of a Nigerian Igbo president, Biafra or a referendum without the support of other tribes in Nigeria. This is not the time to push blames, it is a time to build bridges and show solidarity with other Nigerians. It will be detrimental for Igbos if they fail to sympathize with other Nigerians by continuing to play the holier than thou politics while the country burns over bad governance…. Above all, I hope that Nigerians whether north or south can look beyond their corrupt tendencies of collecting bribe and staging pro-government sponsored violent protests against peaceful protesters, I hope Nigerians can overcome their selfish tribalistic ways of sabotaging each other and come together to free the country from this cruel government and their political oppressors…. |
I left because the protest was hijacked to unleash violence…. How do you explain what happened today…. Many Nigerians collected bribe to stage counter no protest protest against protesters…. JagabanB: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzQPGXKtwsY Tinubu fail to address Nigerians as protesters breach Aso Rock police protection…. |
I was at the protest venue earlier today to join Nigerians in solidarity protesting against bad governance. Even though I knew that the government will not listen to Nigerians and will try to hijack the protest…. I decided to participate to support and make a stand against injustice. What I saw at the protest venue made me leave the protest. It was disheartening seeing government sponsored Nigerians mobilize against those protesting, I had sensed that the protest will be violent as these groups of sponsored pro-government protesters were out for mayhem…. I am yet to come to terms with mindset of some Nigerians sabotaging this peaceful protest even when it is done to force government to reverse terrible economic policies that they are facing…. As it stands this protest movement has been hijacked and won’t be peaceful anymore….I see many Igbo people laughing and mocking others for protesting even when current situation is affecting everyone….. It is sad but the truth is that many Nigerians are too selfish to allow this country to progress……. Nigerians are not ready for genuine progress…. The people will continue to suffer until we all learn to put aside our selfish tribalistic ways….. |
They came with coaster buses and barricaded the road at the stadium, singing praises of Tinubu…. I wonder if this people are same Nigerians complaining about high cost of living…. It’s a shame |
Nigerians are not ready to move this country forward…. it is sad…. |
These guys were sponsored to block us at Abuja stadium today tochifk:
|
It was shameful to see fellow Nigerians protesting against us who are pushing for an end to bad governance today…. Carrying government sponsored banners saying no to the protest while heavily armed police men barricade protesters from conducting procession into the city….. Nigerians are their own problem….

I made this post earlier today and it was deleted for no reason by Nairaland. I’ve always advocated for a progressive Nigeria and any post I make on Nairaland was made towards advancing national progress, nothing more. I did not join Nairaland to spread any propaganda as I am not a supporter of Obi, Atiku, Tinubu or iPOB as many may presume. If anyone doubts this you can read the post I made before the 2023 election here https://www.nairaland.com/7578573/take-tinubu-atiku-obi-sowore Even though some mods act sentimentally on how they moderate, I’ve never stopped believing that Nairaland can do better as an open platform for Nigerians to discuss and proffer solutions to various national issues…. There are those who join this forum for nefarious reasons…. For those whose job is to spread tribal propaganda and attack posts critical of Tinubu’s government or Nairaland mods who are sentimental in moderation I will once again state that the reason I post on Nairaland is simply to share my views on how to move the country forward and if anyone doesn’t agree with my post, you’re free to make a superior argument instead of deleting my post. Regarding the August nationwide protest, I stand by my conviction until proven wrong that an interim government is the best option for Nigerians going forward…. For those who are wondering what I am talking about, you can read the post I made below regarding this before it was deleted…. “Over the past one week, Nigerians have been mobilizing for a nationwide protest campaign that will start on August 1, while many news outlets are reporting on this, Tinubu and his government have been busy spreading fear and intimidation propaganda over the protests…. Instead of addressing the lingering issues raised by protesters, the government mobilized soldiers, police officers and paramilitary forces to take over the streets of major cities all over the country as a counter measure to stop Nigerians from trooping out in mass for the protest. There are armored tanks stationed in several places like markets, bus stations and places chosen by protest organizers. With every move taken by this government, it is glaring that this peaceful nationwide protest will be sabotaged by the government. Tinubu’s government has been incompetent from day 1, from lopsided nepotistic appointments to implementing anti-people policies that destroyed Nigeria’s economy and rendered millions of people hopeless…. From the callous removal of fuel subsidy to the irresponsible action of floating the Naira, Tinubu’s government has been on a roll dishing out bad policies and borrowing uncontrollable to the tune of over N20 trillion since he was sworn in as the president in 2023 with nothing to show for it. Tinubu’s government is anti-democratic, dictatorial, selfish, corrupt and insensitive to the plight of the masses. This is why Nigerians are protesting as cost of living is now to high and unbearable for many…. It is callous of this government that after failing to address the terrible economic situation Nigerians are going through, it still want to deny Nigerians their rights to protest? Last week, the protest organizers submitted a 14 point agenda for the August nationwide protest, this agenda’s revolves around addressing the fundamental problems of the country, including a demand to scrap the 1999 constitution and some other pressing demands like reversal of fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira. The protesters demands included what many Nigerians have been yearning for especially on the aspect of restructuring and anti corruption reforms. If eventually the protest starts, it is obvious that the current government will unleash a violent campaign against protesters, the demands of this protest will not be entertained not to talk of it been implemented. This is why I am once again appealing to Nigerians to instead demand for an end of the current bloated government and an establishment of an interim smaller government that will be tasked with a mandate of 2 years to implement the economic and political reforms that Nigerians are agitating for. Tinubu’s political ambition is not bigger than or above the lives of over 200 million people. He will not reverse the policies of floating the Naira and subsidy removal that plunged the nation into current economic crisis so protesting for his government to implement good governance to me is a waste of time and effort….This government will not listen to the demands of Nigerians protesting because it is highly corrupt, incompetent and incapable of implementing good economic reforms…. An interim government is the only way forward for Nigerians… For Nigerians to achieve genuine progress from this nationwide protest, here is a list of a 3 point workable agenda that Nigerians should demand for during the protest based on order of implementation…. AGENDA 1: Remove Tinubu as president either through willful resignation or forced impeachment, followed by a total dissolution of the current bloated government AGENDA 2: Establish a caretaker interim smaller government setup with a mandate of 2 years to implement the points listed below. - Stabilize the economy by cutting the cost of government, implement immediate reversal of fuel subsidy removal and floating of the Naira policies. Establish a corrupt free fuel subsidy scheme, reverse sale of NNPC, sack current NNPC management and revive one national refinery (Port Harcourt refinery) within 5 months period. - Establish a new remuneration scheme that will ensure that Nigerian workers are paid a minimum wage that reflects economic realities to boost Nigerians purchasing power and revitalize the economy…. - Constitute a national reformation agenda that will entail representation from each geo political zone with a mandate to overhaul the 1999 constitution or replace it with a people-backed constitution through a sovereign national conference followed by a national referendum. The provisions of this new constitution should scrap the senate arm of the Nigerian legislative system and make legislative job a part-time endeavor - As a matter of urgency, draft and implement provisions for the total restructuring of Nigeria political landscape towards decentralization to uphold Nigeria’s diversity, foster peace through resource control, decentralization of constitutional powers and regional development. - Implement the unconditional release of Nnamdi Kanu, all Endsars and human rights activists political detainees - Reform the nation’s security agencies by sacking all current military and security chiefs benefiting from widespread insecurity and terrorism across Nigeria - Reform the nation’s anti-graft agencies (EFCC, ICPC…) by sacking all current heads of the anti-graft agencies and empower the anti-graft agencies to investigate and prosecute corrupt politicians and judges that have denied and continue to deny Nigerians access to justice - Setup judicial panel to probe and prosecute all past and present Nigerian leaders over looting that they supervised while in power, recover their loots and deposit it in a special account to be used to fund education, healthcare and infrastructure - Reform the nation’s electoral body INEC by sacking and prosecuting the current INEC chairman, reconstitute the Nigerian electoral body INEC to remove corrupt individuals and partisan backed operatives appointed to manipulate elections. Establish diaspora voting rights for Nigerians outside the country AGENDA 3: Once the electoral reforms and all other reforms listed above are done by the interim government within 2 years, a free and fair election should be conducted to usher in a new Nigeria founded on justice, equity and fairness…. This is what I believe Nigerians should protest and agitate for…. This is what must be done now to salvage the country and put it on the path of greatness…. Tinubu’s government of propaganda will not listen to the demands of protesters and is incapable of implementing the reforms I listed above…. An interim government is what Nigerians need now…..” |

The protest is not restricted to only a few Nigerians as you too can protest and share what you think Nigerians should ask that will make Nigeria better and last for a long time…. Optional09: |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Art8AlZPug Tinubu remains defiant, refuses to accept demands as protests start early in Abuja |
Tinubu and his APC political allies have succeeded in brainwashing and dehumanizing many Nigerians, it was shameful watching people troop out today to protest against the August nationwide peaceful protest…. Sometimes I feel as if it’s too late to salvage this country as Nigerians appear to be architects of their own problems…. Based on how desperate the government has shown to be against the protest it is obvious that some Nigerians will be recruited to sabotage the peaceful protest and turn in to a violent protest…. Nigerians are their own problem…. It’s sad…. specialmati: |
