The laziness and pessimism is rubbing off on me even. I have started complaining about little things. I think it's a culture thing for people here to complain and act "unambitious"..

Then as for Nigerians having my back, no, I actively avoid them now. If possible I wil avoid myself too. I've seen enough Shege and bad belle from them cos how can you be 30years in this country and be threatened by my existence, when I haven't even spent 6 months? The attitude is scary AF, I am well received by others from other countries so I better stay away and interact from afar
I can relate to the "how can you be 30years in this country and be threatened by my existence, when I haven't even spent 6 months?"

I know one who is almost 40 years in the UK but act like she is in a competition with someone who came a year ago.

Nevertheless, there are good Nigerians in UK. Observe and filter them.

Lol, what about the many others who still have years to go.

They won't increase it to 7 years but they won't reduce it to 2 years either. Even Labour MPs would agree with the Suellas on the flight risk from the care sector.

Thank you very much for stating this fact.
A lot of people trying to jump on her do not want to understand that she expresses her sincere opinion without sentiments and "expected" emotions.

Hkana:
I don't like how the thread has suddenly taken a Everyone else-against-Zahra turn. She's expressed her opinions which she's entitled to and everyone else is as well entitled to theirs.
But the way it now seems as if everyone else is trying to have a go at her isn't right. With the tone of the messages, you guys would inflict bodily harm if she was close.

The fact that she's taking all the heat as they come shouldn't stop you guys from taking a pause. She has not said the far right guys are right. She's been a really helpful member of this community and if everyone else gangs up against her for daring to hold a different view to the popular sentiments here then we'd not be any different from these far righters.

It's scary out there, yes. I was paranoid walking back home from the mosque tonight but that shouldn't be enough reason to vent on some poor lady who's as much a victim as the rest of us.

Thank you for your kind response always.
I am actually asking about people on the old Healthcare visa rule whose sponsors do not have work for since they entered the country for some months now.

Some were lucky to get the supplementary 20 hours a week from other agencies but nothing from their main sponsors.

We are hoping that the present government will look into this.

Zahra29:
Not really, I think it is unlikely that there will be a blanket reversal of the new minimum salary threshold for skilled workers. Among other reasons, recent data shows that the number of skilled visas being issued since the increase has remained relatively stable.

They might however review the ISL and add on specific occupation areas that might be struggling a lot.

But if you were already on a visa before the new changes, then switching shouldn't be as much of an issue as you will fall under the old rules. Is this what you mean?
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by BeckyB1(f): 9:06pm On Jul 31, 2024
Great!
I am hoping the reviews going on now will positively change the Certificate of Sponsorship situation that is affecting many people in the country.... To make switching sponsorship easier.

Please @Zahra29, any hint about that yet?

UPDATE on Visa switch within the uk after curtailment

After a year plus in the uk with an unreliable employer that brought us in. No shifts, excuses, pregnancy redundancy etc. sought for cos for over a year and we no see. Decided to back down. Shockingly the employer curtailed our leaved without prior information. Para entered body as we have kids, properties etc. the day the we got the email from home office with 4 attachments of the curtailment letters, I was shocked, couldn't work, lost hope felt like my life has been cut short.
I came back home and told my wife that we MUST get cos within 7days if we apply the same strategy we used when we got from Nigeria. We swung into action, met a solicitor in London, that one too carry more para join our existing para say make we use our uk born baby get papers bla bla bla. I went through all the immigration laws, council website, citizen advice and even found out a help on it for displaced carers etc. from same website, it took me to another website that showed licenced health and care employers in the uk only. I had to add some tech skills in my search, applying to every part of uk from England to northern Ireland to Scotland to wales and gracefully I got this employer that is leaving 30 mins walk away from us, listened to our story, had interview and gave offer followed by a cos without a dime. Infact we told the employer we would pay isc after it was assigned, employer no gree I started suspecting the COS sef. All of these happened within 5 days. The employer assigned the cos and kept quiet. After like 3 more days we asked the employer about the way forward and employer said it has been done. We said ah ah, send us the document naaa, boom email entered and it was it. Employer hasn't done it before and we appeared to be the first to be assigned by the company, lots of mistakes including sub category, work duration (1 year then corrected to 3 years) and missing ISC charge. Sponsor note was added and we applied with priority as our 60 days is already counting down. Then emailed isc admin and business helpdesk including work sponsor team concerning the isc error and the payment ref that was made after the error. They acknowledged the email within 24 and telling us they have returned our application to case work and Within another 24 hours case worker approved it. Its been about 17days from the time of curtailment to successful application. From the time of visa application to approval was just 3 days with priority and id app identity check.
I am happy to share this post.
I hope this answers some people's question here on NL.

If you keep looking for/imagining racism, you will find it in some form. Most Brits are not racist today, they may have preconceived notions and might be reserved to start with, but most are fair and will ultimately judge a person on merit. If you work hard and are honest and open/friendly/polite, you will get on fine with most people in most places.

Besides, Africans/Nigerians have just as many stereotypes and isms against white people. "They are lazy, they are not clean, why don't they wash their trainers, they are not home trained etc etc" - these are examples of comments I have heard made against Brits, which is obviously not nice and we would cry racism if they made similar comments against us.
I wish I can get the opportunity to meet you. Maximum respect to you for your contributions on this platform.

So others are getting interviews because of bribery? That’s such a presumptuous and careless statement to make. If you are getting a lot of rejection emails from the NHS, perhaps you are not doing something correctly. Most of the people I know who got a job with the NHS not only took their time to answer the questions correctly, but they went the extra mile by emailing the contact information at the bottom of the job posting.
Thank God for the people you know and I just learnt a newinfo from your comment about emailing the contact information at the bottom of the posting.

My statement was not presumptuous or careless. I guess you have not seen it happening around you. Some people I know also think that I am not doing my best because I do not have a positive result yet.

I will go the extra mile as you have stated. Please, can you give me the link most of the people you know used to apply? Thank you.

You're welcome ☺️

8 months, wow, and all this time you haven't had a shift from your sponsor? Some agencies are really evil, how do they expect people to survive?!

Anyways, it's good that you're looking for another sponsor, hopefully you'll find something soon. Have you tried the NHS, especially trusts in more remote places?
I keep getting unfortunate emails response from the NHS I have been applying to. I recently learnt another way to apply and I have revamp my CV, and will continue to apply.

But things are happening inside the UK ooo.

While a lot of people are getting unfortunate emails, a few are getting interviews and employment because "dem dey pass back door after some hand greasing"

Did you fill in a starter form ( previously called P46) when you started your second job? On this form you should have ticked that this is not your main job, so HMRC is informed that it is a supplementary job.

From a tax perspective, I don't think it's a huge issue because HMRC will make any necessary adjustments if you've been overpaying or underpaying tax.

From an immigration perspective, the implications are that your sponsor's license is at risk of being revoked if they are not able to provide the required shifts. Also the time you've spent won't qualify towards ILR as you are not working the stipulated number of hours under the conditions of your visa. So try and find another sponsor asap if you aren't already looking.
@Zahra29, thank you very very much for your reply. I was actually hoping that you will reply me and you did 🙌🏽🙌🏽.

I have been applying to get another sponsorship for 8 months now but no luck yet 😭😭.

I have been working as a support worker for autistic and learning disabilities people for about 8 months now.

Greetings All.
Please, I need clarification, and want to learn...

I am on a COS visa, and my sponsor have not given a shift since I arrived, but I have been doing my supplementary 20 hours with an agency and my tax code is 1257L.

Someone told me a few days ago that the tax code the agency is using for me is wrong as they are not my main employers.

I want to know the implications of this please.

If you haven't completed your studies, with proof from your university that you can share with the home office, it's very unlikely you'll be allowed to switch your visa status in line with recently implemented rules.

Can you apply for a visa extension since your school has approved your course extension?

My employer have nothing for me for over 3 months. I have been doing the 20 hours for over a month now.

But what kind of training will take 2 months?? They keep coming up with different time wasting strategies when they know they do not have jobs to offer.

AvailableD:
Hello all,

I moved to UK with my family and its been over a month now, my employer said I will undergo a 2 months training, I want to ask and know if I can start doing extra 20hours in another care home or I should wait for my employer, I don't know if it will be a problem when applying for ILR.

Thank you very much for this response. God bless you for being so kind with your words.

jedisco:
They change it from time to time. During covid, it was relaxed. Later brought back and relaxed again until end of August.

Paying for COS is not advisable but from an economic standpoint, I hardly see the difference between that and loads of people who pay much more for an obscure masters and then end up working in or paying for another COS in the care sector. Most Nigerians who pay huge sums for masters do that for the sole purpose of migration. From most, the direct care route would be a better option.

What you could do is try and target NHS HCA/support roles in acute or mental health trusts that ere eligible for sponsorship. Also, might be worth checking if your original sponsor can second you to another agency with vacancies. The second agency then pays you through your sponsor.

Also see if you can use your free time to learn some trade that you could do as a side job for your 20hrs when you get an NHS sponsored role. In the end, you'd be allright.
TravelRe: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 3) by BeckyB1(f): 8:21am On Oct 09, 2023
I wish home office can change the 20 hours a week rule for those whose sponsors do not have any shift to give.

A sponsor brought people in with an offer letter of 40 hours a week shift but ended up having no job to offer. She even told this people to pay her £150 for an online care certificate training link.

Many care homes and agencies that have jobs are not willing to give more than 20 hours a week shift to those who are on Tier 2 sponsorship.

Taal17:
I doubt the abuse of COS is their primary concern. People are willingly paying to get COS . Most of that cash paid isn't traceable to the specific care agency. Ppl probably paid middlemen and likely they paid the naira equivalent .

It's the optics of reducing net migration, as well as the news coverage of people with families stranded in the UK.selling ALL their properties move to the UK. That doesn't help the politics of the party next year.

if they were truly invested in stopping the abuse of COS care jobs they would do more than just remove COS license (which doesn't stop the care agency from operating).
They won't cancel that category either not whilst NHS gan has shortage.
