goatandyam:that's why I said especially women |
madridguy:Terrorism is just one aspect of Islam's reputational problem and it's so cute how you switched from no Muslim can deny their religion to terrorists are freedom fighters. Forcing women to hide from public, is that one freedom fighting too? This thread is for moderate Muslims not menaces that further worsen the reputation of Islam, such as yourself. |
madridguy:Toh at the bolded. Of course a fundamentalist believes in extremes. Out of over 1.4 billion Muslims in the world, not one is capable of hiding his/her religion in certain circles. Toh |
madridguy:Well I live abroad and I know many Muslims who don't like to talk about religion and things like that. They just do it privately. I guess they are afraid of being judged |
goatandyam:lol, I believe some Muslims (especially women) are going to be apolitical and just follow the religious doctrines. Don't you think? For instance Dangote's daughters or children of the elite. |
Today is Friday and I wish all Muslims a peaceful Friday prayers. Non-muslims like myself form opinion of Islam by looking at Muslims and their actions. Our parents did not indoctrinate us to see islam the way we do. We just watch the news and interact with muslims. There are other religions like Hindu, Christianity and Buddhism with billions of adherents just like Islam. But Islam is one that spectacularly stands out as 'off-ish' to neutrals. Terrorism, violence, restrictions of women, hard-line laws, repression, political ideology, aversion to modernity etc are some of the things that Islam has become known for. Many Muslims feel uncomfortable identifying as Muslims in certain circles. How do you feel about the reputation of your religion? How does it affect you? Do you want the reputation to change or are you ok with it? Can we hear from you? |
budaatum:that's great. Hope you realise though that this is an exceptional case. Which means it doesn't represent the norm |
budaatum:tell me one Islamic society that gives women equal rights as men? |
EmperorCaesar:Lol, of course it's entirely weird to have more northerners in Lagos than in Anambra. BTW, how many northerners live in Ibadan compared to Lagos? |
AK481:no. Explain |
jazzman7711:Can? Yes. Will be? Probably not. Because our best days are fast going behind us. We are gradually losing our economy. It would take a major restructuring to start growing economy again. We also have not managed to put aside our differences after 64 years of independence. We are still as Awolowo described us, 'a mere geographical expression' Also 3 nations were brought together in 1960 to federate and form Nigeria. Gowon destroyed that by creating 12 states. Successive fulani military men managed to up that to 36 mushroom states that struggle monthly to pay salaries. Monthly minimum wage is less than 50 dollars and even that is hard for these states to pay on time. States created simply to share oil money and give undue advantage to North |
Exousiang01:Throwing insults about does nothing but expose you as someone to be ignored. My last reply to you |
Exousiang01:Lots of insults, little substance. Typical of a Nigerian. First of all, countries have supported countries to break up in Africa in the past. Somalia, Sudan and Ethiopia all broke up by groups that got foreign support. Also countries go against allies all the time. When the South Africa wanted to Anex Lesotho and Namibia, UK refused. Even though South Africa has a large British population. Russia and China may not be interested in fighting Nigeria today. However tomorrow may be another matter. Nigeria being invited to a BRICS meeting is of little consequence. Nigeria is not part of Brics and Nigeria does not hold any strategic importance to either Russia or China today. They may not interfere because Biafra means little or nothing to them. However Iran can interfere, has the capacity to interfere and has the incentive to Interfere. What they are facing today makes it even more pertinent for them to arm more proxies around the world and expand their influence. That is the only way their regime can survive. The Biafran territories have oil and gas that would appeal to them. And being able to defeat a Western-backed government in Africa sends a strong message to the west that Iran is not defeated. Lol Nigeria has said over and over they would not negotiate its unity. This simply means that no political mediums to achieve Biafra, only military ones. |
Exousiang01:Lol this is very funny and laughable. You are the one I should be telling this to. As we are currently speaking, many countries are arming groups in other countries to cause mayhem, to achieve certain objectives your apparently small mind won't comprehend. Nigeria is currently not a top 3 economy in Africa. Nigeria is currently not a top 3 oil producer in Africa. Why would a world power feel so particularly averse to having issues with Nigeria? Nigeria is under the protection of UK as its founder. Countries that align with or fear UK will not want to interfere in Nigeria. But that does not include countries such as Iran, China and Russia etc. They will interfere if they want and nothing will happen |
NaMe4:they can influence a change of government. Hell, they brought sit at home and it has been largely followed for 3 years. If they flex that change of government muscle, they will achieve it. They however play as being above Nigerian politics. One thing about Nigeria and Nigerians is they underestimate a security threat. Only a typical Nigerian would write off kanu and ipob as not being influential. Hezebolah had an army stronger than Lebanese military but never interfered in the governance of lebanon |
jazzman7711:Nigeria is not fast developing. Nigeria is not even among the top 20 fastest developing economies in Africa. But I like your patriotism. Hope your patriotism is to Nigeria and not to your ethnic group, otherwise toh |
rinzaugustine:Well, colonial borders in Africa has only been successfully changed twice. Bakassi was not one of them. Bakassi was never Nigerias. It was under our control but was never gazetted as ours on any colonial records. The two cases of south sudan and Eritrea were both by armed struggle. There are more internationally recognised claims to self determination, such as Palestine, or the Kurds etc. Is it Biafra that UN will leave all these to listen to? On what basis? In Africa today, Somaliland has been independent for decades but unrecognised. Even independent Northern Cyprus is unrecognised. No UN will give you Biafra. Only Nigeria can. And currently, Nigeria doesn't want to negotiate its unity. So basically if you want it, you fight for it. Full stop. |
Ojiofor:ideologically speaking is the main thing. Other things you wrote don't follow. Even oil smugglers are beating our navy not to talk of a sophisticated state like Iran. I repeat it to the roof, if they decide to arm a group in Nigeria, forget it. They will do it. |
NaMe4:just? All change in government is a quest for a shift in elitism. The whole idea of a coup or deposition is to change who call the shots. It is not 'just' |
Looking4Trouble:you didn't need to quote me to write this bro. Just write it and move on |
jazzman7711:lol, every single country on earth has developed better than their 1960s state. The problem is that while most countries in Asia and southern Africa has had accelerated growth, Nigeria's growth has been painful to watch. The road you see today here, you may not see tomorrow. The infighting and tribalism got worse etc. Regional governments maybe the other alternative but Nigerian governments have kept playing around this. Maybe outright disintegration is the next best thing |
gidgiddy:Are you telling me why Nigeria should disintegrate? I should be telling you bro |
Ojiofor:Iran can easily supply ipob. If simeon Ekpa can supply ipob with riffles and guns, Iran can supply missiles. There are a lot of unmanned water ways leading into Biafran claimed territories. Kanu escaped from one of them. It's so easy for Iran to this, they have gotten extremely good at it. Iran was supplying Taliban right under the nose of the Americans |
jazzman7711:Yes you are right. Nigeria has seen massive progress, compared to the bush we were in 1960. However, these has been almost entirely achieved through the sale of oil. Oil will be either finished or irrelevant within our lifetime. What will our children do then? If Nigeria is currently in this state of affairs where 80% live in multidimensional poverty when we still have the 8th largest oil deposits in the world, how will Nigeria be without petrodollars? Would it be a bad idea for manageable nation- states to be eventually created out of the current geographical expression called Nigeria which even the current sitting president said he didn't believe in? |
Exousiang01:Eritrea defeated Ethiopia with the help of Italy despite Ethiopia getting support of Soviet union. South Sudan defeated Sudan And Somilland defeated Somalia. The writing of the history of African borders has not finished my friend. Sovereign states collapse all the time, even the almighty soviet union |
gidgiddy:lol, this is wishful thinking. Nigeria didn't collapse in 1967 or 1993, it won't just up and collapse because Tinubu is President. Nigeria's economy and state is very similar to its neighbours around Africa. Nigeria doesn't have it worse. For Nigeria to collapse, something has to tip it over. It has to battle a great power like Iran or Russia etc. Otherwise, Nigeria will remain in this near-death state for decades and centuries and rag-tag groups like Bokoharam or ipob will keep being target practice for the equally rag-tag nigerian military that would be incapable of defeating Hezbollah in its current weak state |
Chibuzoc:Iran of 1967 was ruled by a British puppet king. Not today's Iran |
Ojiofor:lol, the Shiite movement in Kaduna was never militant. Who do you propose arms boko haram and how do they do it? Is there a border between Yemen and Iran. Many of you underestimate Iran because of the current affairs which is basically The U.S, Germany, and Uk teaming up with isreal to beat Iranian proxies. Iran can easily arm any militant group in Nigeria and make them stronger than the current nigerian military within 15 years. They have a very long verifiable track record of doing this, no be today. |
mymadam:e funny abi, but many groups have become what they were originally not, just to achieve their objectives. If ipob can start a Jewish movement, knowing the vast majority of Biafrans are Christians, they can become a Shiite movement too lol |
Flangelo12:why are you laughing. What are your thoughts |
Iran I see IPOB identifying with Isreal in the hope it will gain it favour and by extension, its support. However Isreal does not operate that way. Isreal has no foreign policy of arming groups. Besides Isreal has no problems with Nigeria and gains nothing from arming a group against the state of Nigeria. Israel is looking for legitimacy. Iran on the other hand has armed capable groups in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan, Lebanon and Palestine. These are just the ones popularly known. And make no mistakes, Iran is a very powerful country. Isreal may currently be winning against it but that is because of America and EU. Iran is one of those countries that stand on their own. It is also a cradle of civilisation and one of the richest countries in the world. It makes many of its own weapons and is the leader of the global Shi'ite movement and a potential superpower. Also Iran has a beef with Nigeria and has incentive to interfere. Nigeria has persecuted Shiites before. Also Iran may want to secure a foothold in Africa. If IPOB becomes a Shiite movement, it may successfully secure the support of Iran and change its reputation and strength, even if majority of Biafrans remain Christians. With Iran's support, the Alawiit of Syria which comprised only just about 20% of Syria ruled that country for over 50 years. Waiting for American or Jewish support for Biafra is of no consequence, they won't go against British interests. And neither will Russia help, they dont arm non-governmental groups as much as Iran. These countries have zero incentive to go against Nigeria However we know IPOB will rather fail than go Islamic...so go figure 🙄 |
Dtruthspeaker:like me? You have already decided i am going to hell? Lol. Have a nice life bro |
