[s] Drakkernoir: I really don't understand the thinking of Nigerians.
A man that has been cursed from here to the moon suddenly becomes a saint?
A man that has no loyalty to any party, but decamps at the slightest opportunity when things aren't working in his favor is now the chosen one?
A man that has been declared fantastically corrupt by every politician past and present is now a saint?
He was VP for 8 years for crying out loud, fell out with his immediate boss...was ridiculed for buying everybody with his deep pockets, the same scenario is playing out and people are rejoicing.
Are we really ready?
The major bane in this country is the amount that has been stolen from the masses from past leaders..
One man comes and blocks all avenues, collects oil blocks from previously corrupt people.
Stops the federal government payment of staff for a previous presidents private institutions and u all think they won't rally to chase him out?
The only problem these past leaders have with buhari is fear of the unknown...he is rigid and determined. He has blocked their various sources of stealing public funds and the masses are rejoicing that they want to put someone that will open the coffers back
Nigerians need to wake up
The amount of money stolen by these people will buy some African countries...
If we make the wrong choice in 2019, mark my words, Nigeria will be sold.
Fela said it all.... We suffer and smile
What a pity. [/s]

Politics › Re: Corruption: The US Senate Report That Finally Nailed Atiku Abubakar by bedspread: 10:51am On Oct 13, 2018 |
[s] olamimd: A United States Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations has detailed how Atiku Abubakar while still the vice president of Nigeria between 2000 and 2008, used offshore companies to siphon millions of dollars to his fourth wife in the United States, Jennifer Douglas.
Specifically, the report said Jennifer Douglas, an American citizen, helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States through wire transfers sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts.
The US Senate probe was motivated by US government concern about corruption in the Third World and its corrosive effects on the development of honest government, democratic principles, and the rule of law.
The report unveiled violations of US laws by Atiku and his fourth wife, Jennifer Douglas. It also included revelations about Siemens bribe paid into one of the accounts, and it possibly provided the basis for Atiku being barred from entering the United States, since then.
This Report examines how politically powerful foreign officials, their relatives, and close associates – referred to in international agreements as Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) – have used the services of U.S. professionals and financial institutions to bring large amounts of suspect funds into the United States to advance their interests. Using four case histories, this Report shows how some PEPs have used U.S. lawyers, real estate and escrow agents, lobbyists, bankers, and even university officials, to circumvent U.S. anti-money laundering and anti- corruption safeguards. This Report also offers recommendations to stop the abuses.
Here is a summary of the report:
Atiku Case History.
From 2000 to 2008, Jennifer Douglas, a U.S. citizen and the fourth wife of Atiku Abubakar, former Vice President and former candidate for President of Nigeria, helped her husband bring over $40 million in suspect funds into the United States through wire transfers sent by offshore corporations to U.S. bank accounts.
In a 2008 civil complaint, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission alleged that Ms. Douglas received over $2 million in bribe payments in 2001 and 2002, from Siemens AG, a major German corporation.
While Ms. Douglas denies wrongdoing, Siemens has already pleaded guilty to U.S. criminal charges and settled civil charges related to bribery and told the Subcommittee that it sent the payments to one of her U.S. accounts.
In 2007, Mr. Atiku was the subject of corruption allegations in Nigeria related to the Petroleum Technology Development Fund. Of the $40 million in suspect funds, $25 million was wire transferred by offshore corporations into more than 30 U.S. bank accounts opened by Ms. Douglas, primarily by Guernsey Trust Company Nigeria Ltd., LetsGo Ltd. Inc., and Sima Holding Ltd.
The U.S. banks maintaining those accounts were, at times, unaware of her PEP status, and they allowed multiple, large offshore wire transfers into her accounts. As each bank began to question the offshore wire transfers, Ms. Douglas indicated that all of the funds came from her husband and professed little familiarity with the offshore corporations actually sending her money.
When one bank closed her account due to the offshore wire transfers, her lawyer helped convince other banks to provide a new account. In addition, two of the offshore corporations wire transferred about $14 million over five years to American University in Washington, D.C., to pay for consulting services related to the development of a Nigerian university founded by Mr. Atiku Abubakar.
American University accepted the wire transfers without asking about the identity of the offshore corporations or the source of their funds, because under current law, the University had no legal obligation to inquire.

Politics › Re: Why Nigerians Will Not Vote For Atiku by bedspread: 10:49am On Oct 13, 2018 |
[s] BafanaBafana: The emergence of Atiku as the presidential flag bearer of the PDP has been greeted with an unusual euphoria. This, from my experience would have been the same if any of the other aspirants had emerged winner. We saw such jubilations during the defections. It is understandable though because the anti Buharist have been at the loosing end ever since 2014, from the general elections to the president's health and to other elections held across the country. It is therefore not unexpected for them to celebrate every little issue, not minding how irrelevant it might be. Interesting to see is how they have been trying shop for selling points for their candidate. I saw something about Atiku being the largest job provider in the country. That's a very mischievous lie. He might fall somewhere around the bottom of the top one hundred employers of labour. Atiku has a lot of small businesses most of which are concentrated in Yola. Fruit juice/ sachet water company, radio/tv station, fast food joint (the most expensive in town), university to primary school, etc. And some other bigger establishments elsewhere. Most of these however are fronts used to clean his ill gotten wealth. If you are conversant with operations of drug lords, you will understand. As it is, Atiku is very wealthy. But his name hardly comes up when the wealthiest Nigerians are being mentioned. Just like the Babangidas and the Abdusalams. If you know, you know. Atiku has no doubt done pretty well for himself as an entrepreneur. But when you want to give someone a job, you ask for his experience and achievements in that field. The man has held public office before in the capacity of the vice president of Nigeria. What was his achievements? That is a question Atiku wouldn't want to be asked because when he was VP, he oversaw the privatisation of NITEL and the Nigerian airways which put over 100 000 people out of jobs without entitlements. If not that Buhari came to power, they wouldn't have been paid off till date. Futhermore, we also have a referral letter from his boss and this is what his boss has to say about him.
"What I did not know, which came out glaringly later, was his parental background which was somewhat shadowy, his propensity to corruption, his tendency to disloyalty, his inability to say and stick to the truth all the time,a propensity for poor judgment, his belief and reliance on marabouts , his lack of transparency, his trust in money to buy his way out on all issues and his readiness to sacrifice morality, integrity, propriety truth and national interest for self and selfish interest" Olusegun Obasanjo MY WATCH, Volume 2, Pages 31- 32.
That is Atiku in public service. He has not changed from what we saw in the pdp primaries where he bought his way. Someone said he will support Atiku even if he was a direct descendant of lucifer. That's a very honest stance. It's more noble than trying to paint him as someone who he isn't. As true and unfortunate it is that a lot of Nigerians are fraudulent and see nothing wrong with criminality, there are lots of Nigerians who will never support anything evil due to their upbringing, hence can never support Atiku.
A minor prophet has spoken. [/s] IRRELEVANT
