Politics › Northern Nigeria Not Afraid Of Restructuring - Tambuwal, Others Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 6:01pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
The Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, has said the 19 northern states of Nigeria are not afraid of the proposed restructuring of Nigeria.
Mr. Tambuwal stated this on Monday in Jos, Plateau State, at the annual Law Week and memorial lecture by the Nigerian Bar Association, Jos Branch for Justice Dauda Azaki, who died 20 years ago.
The statement came after a remark by his Borno State counterpart, Mr. Shettima, dismissing the clamour for restructuring elicited widespread condemnation especially from eminent southern Nigerians and groups from the southern half of the country.
“I can confidently say here that we in the northern part of Nigeria are not afraid of restructuring,” Mr. Tambuwal said. The Sokoto governor, who is a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, said contrary to insinuations that northern Nigerians were opposed to restructuring of Nigeria, saying those saying so were merely raising a false alarm.
Governor Tambuwal stressed that northerners were not afraid of the economic implications of restructuring, stating that most states in the north have enough mineral deposits to be self-sustaining.
He added that Nigerians from all parts of the country desire true federalism.
Speaking in the same vein, the Governor of Bauchi State, Mohammed Abubakar, said restructuring is a welcome development as long as the proposed restructuring will not ignite rancour in the country.
Mr. Abubakar urged that Nigerians to be properly educated on the issue to allay fears among some of them. On his part, Plateau State Governor, Simon Lalong, also called for caution on the issue.
Mr. Lalong said the agitation for restructuring almost caused the country another round of unrest.
“A misunderstanding of the concept of restructuring among the younger generation has also undoubtedly given rise in some quarters to the provocative and inciting calls for seccession and the dissolution of the Nigerian state,” he said.
Governor Lalong said while he supported the policy of restructuring, he however lamented that some of the agitations for restructuring had veered into hate speeches.
Returning to the topic of Monday’s event, Mr. Tambuwal admonished Nigerian judges and lawyers to adjudicate speedily on cases to avoid prolonging stay of persons awaiting trial in prisons
Earlier, chairman of the Jos branch of the NBA, Ralph Monye, criticised the prosecution of some judges in Abuja for alleged corrupt practices.
“I had strongly condemned that despicable act and in solidarity with their Lordships, I had predicted that the Judiciary, which seemed at that time to be under intense fire would surely come out unscathed. The dust has since settled and mist of the judges have since resumed in their places of primary assignments.”
Mr. Monye said practitioners of other professions were not being questioned for doing wrong, and call for the prosecution of some security operatives for inhuman treatment of citizens.
“The DSS (State Security Service) is still one of the security outfits in Nigeria with no one calling for its disbandment,” he said.
The theme of the 2017 Law Week of the association was: “Restructuring: A Panacea for Nigeria’s Development and Cohesion.” https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/251350-northern-nigeria-not-afraid-restructuring-tambuwal-others.htmlhtml

Crime › Imo Youths Kill, Burn Head Teacher Accused Of Sorcery (photo) by BeeBeeOoh(op): 4:27pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
A serving head teacher, Mr. Cosmas Nwaiwu, has been reportedly killed by irate youths from Nneoche Umuoma Nzerem in Ehime Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.
Nwaiwu, 57, who was said to have been killed on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 was the Head Teacher of Obolo Primary School, Ehime Mbano.
Our correspondent on Monday gathered that Nwaiwu was murdered on the allegation that he was “diabolically diverting the destiny” of three members of his extended family.
It was also gathered that a relation also accused him of being responsible for the death of her husband.
Sequel to these accusations, the youths of the area allegedly mobilised one another and besieged his house, murdered Nwaiwu and then burned his body.
Though Nwaiwu’s wife, Mary, could not talk when contacted on phone, a close family source told our correspondent that Nwaiwu was killed as result of envy by his relations who felt he had made progress in life ahead of them.
“He was not diabolical at all. As a teacher who was nearing the retirement age, he managed to build a bungalow of four rooms. But his relations, who neither went to school nor learnt a trade, cooked up the story that he was the one bewitching them.”
When contacted on phone, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, confirmed the incident.
Enwerem, a Superintendent of Police said, “We have arrested three suspects, including the President General of the community, Mr. Nnanna Okonkwo, in connection with the incident and thorough investigations are in progress.” http://punchng.com/imo-youths-kill-burn-head-teacher-accused-of-sorcery/

Politics › No Plans To Increase Fuel Price - NNPC Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:01pm On Dec 04, 2017 |
The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation has reiterated that there is no plan to increase the prices of petroleum products both at the ex-depot level and pump price ahead of the forthcoming Yuletide.
The corporation re-emphasised this in a statement signed by its Group General Manager Group Public Affairs Division, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, in Abuja on Monday
It said that the ex-depot petrol price of N133.38 per litre and the pump price of N143/N145 per litre had not changed
It noted that the corporation had enough stock of fuel to ensure seamless supply and distribution of products across the country.
It enjoined motorists and other users of petroleum products to disregard trending rumours in some online news platforms of an impending fuel price hike.
The corporation in the statement added that it had the full commitment of all downstream stakeholders, including petroleum marketers and industry unions, to cooperate in achieving zero fuel scarcity this season and beyond.
It further enjoined motorists not to engage in panic buying or indulge in the dangerous practice of stocking petroleum products in jerry cans at home.
It assured that its downstream subsidiary companies, namely the Petroleum Products Marketing Company and NNPC Retail Limited were fully geared up to ensure that motorists enjoy uninterrupted access to petrol throughout the nation. http://punchng.com/no-plans-to-increase-fuel-price-nnpc-says/

Politics › 20 More Exotic Cars For Reps Arrive, 100 More To Arrive, Each Unit Costs N17m by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:25am On Dec 04, 2017 |
Twenty more exotic cars imported for members of the House of Representatives have arrived at the National Assembly in Abuja, The PUNCH learnt on Sunday.
Findings showed that the additional 20 units brought the total number of cars delivered to 260.
It implies that 100 units are still being awaited to make the vehicles go round all 360 members of the House.
Otherwise known as ‘utility’ or ‘committee’ vehicles, the House is buying 360 units of Peugeot 508 for legislative services.
Each unit is supplied at the price tag of N17m. This leaves the total cost of the 360 units at N6.1bn.
Investigations indicated that the 20 units started arriving at the legislative building early last week and as of Friday, all had been delivered.
The cars were neatly parked at a filling station adjoining the National Assembly Annex I and II premises. The filling station and the premises are separated by a barbed wire fence.
One National Assembly official said, “These additions came after so much pressure was mounted on the Chairman, Committee on House Services, Mr. Nasiru Baballe-Ila, by members.
“You will recall that the delayed supply of the utility cars since 2015 has been a source of friction in the House.
“Many members are disappointed in Baballe-Ila that in almost three years, his committee and the bureaucracy of the National Assembly are unable to supply utility vehicles to members.
“You will recall that as recently as October, about 120 members still did not have cars. With the additional 20, it means that 100 more lawmakers will wait into the New Year (2018) to get cars.”
The PUNCH gathered on Sunday that Baballe-Ila had convinced the leadership of House in 2015 to opt for Peugeot 508 cars with an initial understanding with Peugeot Automobile Nigeria Limited to supply the units in phases.
However, PAN reportedly later became uncomfortable with the deal, while the committee opened the gates for several sub-contractors to assume the supply of the vehicles.
With the development, The PUNCH learnt that most of the units were not supplied by PAN, but by other contractors, who resorted to importing the units from outside Nigeria, especially Dubai in the United Arab Emirate.
PAN’s Head of Corporate Communications, Mr. Haroun Malami, told The PUNCH that his firm was no longer deeply involved in the supplies.
He stated, “The choice of Peugeot 508 against all other brands was based on overall value offered by the vehicle in terms of price, performance and residual value; the sub-contracting arrangement by the National Assembly was based on financial ease of transaction to the legislative arm.
“We are uniquely placed and committed to meet national and customers’ demand who are committed in meeting their financial obligation.”
Last October, some members had returned their cars to Baballe-Ila after they developed faults under 90 days of being delivered to them.
When he was contacted for comments on Sunday, the Chairman, House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Mr. Abdulrazak Namdas, informed The PUNCH that the arrival of the additional units merely confirmed the promise of the House to deliver the vehicles to members in batches.
“The cars will come in batches until all the members have their utility vehicles,” he stated.
Efforts by The PUNCH to get Baballe-Ila’s comments failed on Sunday.
The All Progressives Congress lawmaker from Kano State also did not respond to a text message our correspondent sent to him. http://punchng.com/20-more-exotic-cars-for-reps-arrive/

Politics › FG Alone Cannot Provide Quality University Education - President Buhari by BeeBeeOoh(op): 12:41pm On Dec 03, 2017 |
President Muhammadu Buhari, has urged the organized private sector to play prominent role in providing quality university education, saying “government could not do it alone.”
He also urged all the universities in the country to justify Federal Government’s investment in them by striving to raise standards.
Buhari, who was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Anthony Onwuka, made the call on Saturday during the 47th Convocation of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) in Enugu state.
He acknowledged that universities had the potential and responsibility of training the human capital to drive various government initiatives.
He said: “Indeed government is mindful of the social role of universities in the uplifting of the socio-economic life of our country.
“Government will continue to give support to enable our universities to achieve the objectives which they were established.
“Universities on their own are expected to reciprocate the noble gesture of the Federal Government by striving at all time to measure up to the required standard to justify the monumental investment in them.
“The organised private sector should play prominent role in helping government to achieve quality education, since government cannot shoulder the financial responsibility alone.”
He congratulated the graduands and honorary doctorate awardees as they distinguished themselves that the university found them worthy for the awards.
“Use the knowledge acquired positively for the service of your fatherland. Let this recognition and honour spur you to do more to the university and humanity in general,” he said.
In his remarks, Chancellor of the university, the Oni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, commended the institution’s VC and Senate for the continuous training and graduating of high class manpower.
He lauded the school for honouring superlative achievers with the conferment of honorary degrees and honouring UNN retired professors with professor emeritus.
“I urge the graduands and the honorary awardees never to relent in being good ambassadors to this university and the country,” the Oni said.
Those conferred with honorary doctorate degrees during the event were Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammadu Sa’ad Abubakar 111; Chairman of Zenith Bank, Chief Jim Ovia and former governor of Abia, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu.
The Sultan of Sokoto was conferred with honourary Doctor of Law, Kalu, Doctor of Public Administration and Ovia bagged Doctor of Business Administration. http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/03/fg-alone-cannot-provide-quality-university-education-buhari/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Christianity Etc › God Himself Convinced Me Tithing Was Right - Pastor Adeboye by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:27pm On Dec 02, 2017 |
The General Overseer of The Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, has spoken again on the raging tithe controversy sparked by controversial On-Air-Personality, Daddy freeze.
This time he said God himself convinced him that tithing was right for Christians.
Recall that in a previous reaction to the tithing controversy, Adeboye warned Christians against the dangers of non- compliance to paying of tithe.
However, the cleric, on Sunday, 3rd December, 2017 edition of his Daily Devotional, titled: “Open Heavens”, said the command to pay tithes on one’s earnings simply places a demand on the Christian to trust God.
Writing on the topic, ‘Tithing Is Trusting’, Adeboye said: “To experience exploits in your life, you must have a personal relationship with God. You must believe that He lives and love Him with all your heart. You must also learn to trust in Him.
“The command to pay tithes on your earnings simply places a demand on you to trust God. Your response to this command shows the level of trust you have in Him. “If you can pay your tithes correctly, it shows that you trust God for your livelihood, but if you find it difficult to be faithful in doing this, it simply shows that you trust more in your earning than in God to sustain you.
“After I became newly born again and we were taught to pay tithes, I laughed and said in my mind, ‘These people do not know that I am a mathematician. If 100% is not enough for me, how can 90% be enough after I have paid 10% as tithe? Thank you very much! Even though these people are not educated, they still want to use their smartness to take 10% of my income from me. Let them try and take it’.
“However, down the line, God convinced me by Himself and I observed remarkable changes in my life.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/02/god-convinced-tithing-right-adeboye-speaks/

Politics › Jonathan Let Corruption Thrive, But Was Not Power Hungry - Saraki Says by BeeBeeOoh(op): 10:13pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
The Senate President, Bukola Saraki, on Thursday said he believes ex-President Goodluck Jonathan let corruption thrive during his administration, but was not a power hungry individual.
Mr. Saraki also said he believes the fuel subsidy scam under the former president was the largest single case of corruption in the history of Nigeria.
He said almost N1.3 trillion was stolen through the scam which he witnessed as a senator.
According to Mr. Saraki, he brought the fraud to the attention of the former president who he said lightly waved it aside by saying “You know, oil business is oily.”
Mr. Saraki was speaking at the book launch of a former Minister of Youths and Sports Development under the Jonathan administration, Bolaji Abdullahi, who is now the spokesperson of the All Progressive Congress, APC. The event took place at the Yar’Adua Centre in the Central Business District of Abuja.
The book titled “On a Platter of Gold” was written on how Mr. Jonathan became president of Nigeria in 2011 but lost the office at the 2015 general election.
It detailed how Mr. Jonathan rose from being a university lecturer to becoming vice president under the late President Umar Yar’ Adua and then President of Africa’s largest democracy, in less than a decade.
“Most astonishingly is the fact that he won with the highest majority vote ever recorded in the nation’s history,” Mr. Abdullahi said, referring to the 2011 presidential election won by Mr. Jonathan.
In his address to the gathering at the public presentation of the book, Mr. Saraki observed that Mr. Jonathan was not ready for power.
He, however, said the former president was not a man desperate for power despite the fact that power came to him without being prepared for it.
“I think it is us Nigerians that produce the kind of leaders we get. No matter what you say about him, I don’t think he was someone who was desperate for power.
“He was not someone that was prepared for leadership. Yes, by misfortune or fortune I keep on saying, we all know the right things but we don’t do it. We find ourselves sometimes blaming individuals, blaming others than ourselves,” Mr. Saraki said.
“I like to share one or two things that will probably summarize the former President Jonathan.
“I remember when I was then Senator and I came across this issue of fuel subsidy and the way the country was losing close to about N1.3 trillion. In the history of this country, I don’t think of any singular kind of level of corruption as huge as that. I had a motion already I wanted to present on the floor of the Senate.
“I felt as a member of the ruling party at that time, it was only proper I discussed it with the President (first), maybe some action could be taken so that I would step down the motion.
“I booked an appointment to see Mr. President. I went with my paper. I started with the background of how people bring in petroleum products. I said ‘Mr. President, in the past people used to get award letters from NNPC to bring in PMS, DPK, and make 10, 20 per cent profit.
“I said Sir, they’ve taken it to another level now. They get an order to bring in products, they don’t want to make 10, 20 per cent anymore.
“They will get an offer to bring in a cargo of 20,000 litres; they will bring in 5,000 to be stamped for 20,000 and instead of making 10 per cent, they make ten times the amount.
“I was telling the President, thinking the President would get very agitated. (But) He said: ‘Senator Saraki, you know this oil business is very oily.’
“I was stunned and taken aback!
“But in a way, that was Jonathan. In a sad way, that was who he is.
“And if you look at the second encounter I will recollect, it was the day I decided I was going to contest to be President. I felt that I didn’t want Jonathan to hear it as news, I booked an appointment to go and see him.
“I didn’t know what I was thinking that day. I went to the Villa. He said: ‘Come in, come in, how can I help you?’
“I looked at the President of a third world country and said ‘Mr. President, I came to tell you that I am going to be contesting for your seat.’ “Jonathan looked at me and said: ‘Oh, okay, good luck, good luck.’
“If it were any other person, maybe I would not have left the Villa! But that again sums up Goodluck Jonathan.
“I think it is us Nigerians that produce the kind of leaders we get. No matter what you say about him, I don’t think he was someone who was desperate for power.
“He was not someone that was prepared for leadership. Yes, by misfortune or fortune I keep on saying, we all know the right things but we don’t do it, we find ourselves sometimes blaming individuals, blaming others than ourselves,” Mr. Saraki said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/251129-jonathan-let-corruption-thrive-not-power-hungry-saraki.htmlhtmlLalasticlala, Mynd44 |
Politics › Maina: Former Pension Boss Didn't Travel Out Of Nigeria Since 2013 - Immigration by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:40pm On Nov 30, 2017 |
The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, Thursday said it had no record of any trip embarked on by embattled former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, since September 2013.
According to the Comptroller-General of the NIS, Mohammed Babandede, Maina has not travelled out of the country since 2013, at least through the nation’s airports.
Speaking at an investigative hearing set up by the House of Representatives ad-hoc committee on his controversial reinstatement and promotion, Babandede also said the pension scandal fugitive has the dual citizenship of Nigeria and the United States of America.
While being questioned on Thursday, the Comptroller-General of Immigration explained that Mr. Maina did not leave Nigeria through any of its legal boundaries or airports since 2013.
“We have checked our records and we have not seen a single name of Maina pass through our airports since 2013 when he was blocked; so the record available to us shows that Maina has not been travelling.
“If he has been travelling, then it means he has not been travelling through an airport we can see. By law, if you pass through a border you are entitled to report to an immigration officer. So if Maina has been travelling from 2013 till date, we don’t know. If he has been passing through borders he has not reported to an immigration officer. As far as we are concerned, Maina has not been travelling since 2013,” Mr. Babandede said.
“We knew about Maina from 27 September 2013 when he was leaving the country and he was stopped at the Murtala Mohammed international airport because of the letter from EFCC.
“Prior to that time, Maina was never in our stop list. He has been a frequent traveller across airports. He has 3 passports. An official passport which has expired and has not being renewed; a standard passport which is currently valid till 2018 and an American passport.
“So in an addition to being a citizen of Nigeria, he is also a citizen of America. He has a valid U.S. passport which will be expiring on 26 August 2022.”
“On December 1st 2015 the EFCC gave us a letter directing us to remove his name from the stop list, which we removed. But when the case of Maina started and a directive was given by the president that he should be probed, we blocked his name again in our stop list. We blocked all his passports which means he cannot reissue his passport any longer and he cannot pass through our recognised borders.” http://dailypost.ng/2017/11/30/maina-former-pension-boss-not-travel-nigeria-since-2013-immigration/Lalasticlala, Mynd44 |

Politics › 2019: I Will Seek Your Vote Again - Buhari Tells Nigerians.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:02am On Nov 30, 2017 |
President Muhammadu Buhari has indicated his interest to seek a second term in office after the expiration of his first four years in 2019.
The indication came on Tuesday night when the President addressed a cross section of Nigerians living in Abidjan, the capital of Côte d’Ivoire where he is currently attending the 5th European Union/African summit.
He told a cross section of Nigerians that he will be seeking their votes in the future.
Speaking at the event, which was attended by the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President explained that such a gathering with the Nigerian community abroad was a milestone for his government. “First, I want to apologise for keeping you for too long seating, this is because I insisted on the governors attending this meeting.
“This is why I came along with them so that when we are going to meet you, when you are going to meet the rest of Nigerians, if you tell them that their governors were in the company of the president, I think that will be another vote for me in the future. I’m very pleased that they were able to turn up,” Buhari said as the hall erupted in laughter and clapping.
The decision of the President to invite the former Lagos State governor for the Abidjan is seen as a step in consolidating politically with major stakeholders for the forthcoming general elections. This is the first time Tinubu is travelling abroad with the President. Some APC governors have also recently endorsed Buhari for the 2019 elections.
The President, while apologizing for keeping those that came for the interactive session waiting, explained that he insisted on having Governors Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom) and Mohammed Abubakar (Bauchi) present so that Nigerians in Côte d’Ivoire from the two states will be happy that he was accompanied by their governors and that might earn him votes in future.
President Buhari also thanked Tinubu for bringing him a beautiful piece of information, which he was not aware of until now.
Buhari, however, did not disclose what piece of information it was, but promised to discuss it in details with Tinubu. According to him, “I also thank our leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has brought me a very beautiful piece of information, which I was not aware of until I sat down and read it this evening (Tuesday night). Thank you very much for your hard work and I will discuss that paper with you.” He said his support for the President of the African
Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, despite serving as minister in a PDP-led government was to further confirm his remarks at his inauguration on May 29, 2015, that he belongs to everybody and nobody in particular.
The President was reacting to Adesina’s gratitude to his administration for supporting him to get the job, leading to him becoming the first Nigerian to head the continental bank since it was set up in 1964.
He said: “The President of the African Development Bank (AfDB), who forgot to mention that he was serving in the PDP government as minister, but all the same, I picked him and recommended him for AfDB. I think it emphasized what I said during my swearing in that I’m for everybody, I’m for nobody. As long as you are a Nigerian, be prepared to be on the receiving end from me.”
Adesina, in his remarks, noted that the economy picked up soon after the President’s health, adding that “so it seems there is a correlation between the President’s health and the improved economy.”
On security, Adesina said the bank has released $250 million for the construction and rehabilitation of the North-East, destroyed by the Boko Haram insurgents.
“I was with you in Paris where you led the efforts in reviving the Lake Chad Basin. As you know, Mr. President, the bank is very strongly behind that. We put in $250 million to support the North-East of Nigeria rebuilding. I know you were criticized for rebuilding, but I don’t see anything wrong. If things get destroyed, they have to be rebuilt and the African Development Bank has contributed $250 million towards that,” he said.
He also told the President that the AfDB has constructed a big building behind the Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja. He said it is the first of such building by AfDB outside its Abidjan headquarters, which he will want President Buhari to commission. https://newtelegraphonline.com/2017/11/ill-seek-vote-buhari-tells-nigerians/Lalasticlala, Mynd44 |

Alariiwo: What did you suffer? And who send una message.
I gave an answer to the question asked ok? Even before the war, SE was just a red mud enclave with thatch-roofed houses and thick forests. Calabar was more developed than any SE capital then. The war and destructions opened up so many places you have now. This is pictures of Onitsha Anambra state before the civil war. Happy viewing https://www.nairaland.com/3738481/pictures-onitsha-before-civil-warLast Bullet: SE is a red mud enclave, why don't you wanna let go of that red mud region defacing your paradise?? TheHistorian: Firstly,Whatever you suffered(most probably the Civil war) wasn't a fault of anybody...any fuçking body. You were all gullibly deceived by a hairy chest dumbass into the creation of an imaginary Biafra that will never exist.
Moving On,The Civil war was not only fought in the SE,it extends to parts of SS yet these people does not litter our hearing with lamentations and blame-trading.
Like WTF!...SW leads bruv. You still saying what he said, so I guess my comment above will still serve as an answer to you. Goodnight |

Alariiwo: It's very visible to even the blind.. SW is the best.
The SE surprisingly falls in the least position despite their small size and landmass. Northern zones are just there, fairing well.
SW contributes the largest IGR to Nigeria. Over 60% of total revenue generated in the country. You are free to compare southwest to southeast when she must have suffered what southeast suffered, picked up and rebuilt her cities with her sweat without waiting for the government to do so for her. Thanks |
Politics › Sale Of Nigerians In Libya, A Slap On Our Face - Senate by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:47pm On Nov 29, 2017 |
The Senate has begun the investigation of the alleged sale of illegal African migrants “mostly Nigerians” as slaves in Libya, which it described as a slap on the face of Nigeria.
The probe was based on a motion moved by Senator Baba Kaka Garbai (Borno-Central) at the plenary on Wednesday, entitled, ‘Urgent Need to Protect Nigerian Citizens from the Libya Slavery Auction.’
President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, said there was the need for Nigeria to do more to protect its citizens.
He said, “As a country, truly, it is a slap on the face of all of us if Nigerians can be treated in this manner. Like somebody said, Ivory Coast that is not as big as us is taking action to see how they can bring their own citizens back. We need to be doing similar things.”
The lawmakers unanimously granted prayers of the motion, including to “condemn in totality the current depravity and sheer animalism being exhibited by these Libyans selling fellow Africans as slaves.”
They also urged the Federal Government to urgently investigate how many Nigerians were affected by the slave sales.
The lawmakers also urged the Federal Government to urgently commence the process of repatriation and rehabilitation of Nigerian citizens “caught up in these despicable treatment and human rights abuses http://punchng.com/sale-of-nigerians-in-libya-slap-on-our-face-senate/
