Politics › Fuel Scarcity: PENGASSAN Threatens Strike by BeeBeeOoh(op): 10:17pm On Dec 07, 2017 |
PENGASSAN has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the federal government to address injustice and lawlessness in the oil and gas sector companies or face a nationwide strike from December 18.
This is separate from the ongoing fuel scarcity across the country which the petroleum minister, Ibe Kachikwu, said on Thursday was based on inadequate supply.
Lumumba Okugbawa, General Secretary, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, gave the ultimatum in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.
Mr. Okugbawa said this was imperative in order to address anti-labour issues and lawlessness by some indigenous oil and gas companies and marginal field operators by relevant agencies of government.
He said if this was not addressed properly, it would culminate into the shutting down of all oil and gas installations, including disruptions to fuel supply and distribution across the country. The unionist said the anti-labour practice includes the termination of employment of any worker who indicated willingness to belong to the union.
“Those that are threatened and compelled to disown the union are then treated as slave workers within their own country.
“The case of Neconde Energy Ltd (of Nestoil Group of companies) is particularly worrisome as the issue of dignity in labour and infringement on workers’ rights to Freedom of Association is foreign to them.
“This has led to mass sack of workers that joined the union and dehumanisation of some in total disregard to rule of engagement and the laws of the land.
“The actions of companies such as Neconde in mass sack of Nigerian workers contribute in no small measure to the unending militancy in the Niger Delta.’’
He said Neconde had not only conducted itself as being above the provisions of extant laws and regulations guiding the operations of oil and gas companies in Nigeria, but also severally boasted that no government agency would call it to order.
“Having explored all options without getting the necessary understanding, and an apparent failure of relevant authorities of government to call to order these recalcitrant organisations especially Neconde, we are giving the federal government and its relevant agencies seven-days’ notice to embark on nationwide strike effective December 18.
“If government fails to direct the management of Neconde and other companies to recall our sacked members, as the only option to address this injustice and lawlessness.
“PENGASSAN appeals to all Nigerians to show understanding and to use this window to stockpile adequate quantity of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) and other petroleum products that will last them during the period as this strike will be indefinite.’’ https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/251766-fuel-scarcity-may-worsen-oil-workers-threaten-strike.htmlhtml

Politics › FG, States And LGA Share N532.7bn In October by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:51pm On Dec 07, 2017 |
The Federal, States and Local Government in October shared N532.7 billion which shows a decline of N25.3 billion when compared to what they shared in September.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mahmoud Isa-Dutse, said this on Thursday in Abuja while briefing journalists on the outcome of the monthly Federal Account Allocation Committee, FAAC.
Mr. Isa-Dutse attributed the decline to the decrease in revenue from export sales of $42.94 million due to a decrease in crude oil production by 1.25 million barrels.
He said even though the average price of crude oil increased from $46.29 per barrel to $48.66 per barrel, it was not enough to make up for the loss in production.
“Some of the issues that impacted negatively on crude oil production were attributed to ageing facilities which resulted to shut-ins and shut-downs of pipelines at various terminals for repairs and maintenance.
“Petroleum Profit Tax increased significantly while Import Duty and Value Added Tax improved only significantly. “Companies Income Tax and Oil Royalty recorded slight decreases in the month under review,” he said.
In summary, Mr. Isa-Dutse said after deductions as cost of collection by FIRS, Customs and DPR, the federal government received N205.7 billion, representing 52.68 per cent; states and N104.3 billion, representing 26.72 per cent.
The local governments, he said, received N80.4 billion, amounting to 20.60 per cent of the amount distributed.
Mr. Isa-Dutse announced that N40.8 billion representing 13 per cent derivation revenue was also shared among the oil producing states.
He said that the country generated N317.2 billion as mineral revenue and N124.4 billion as non-mineral revenue.
He said this showed an increase of N41.6 billion from what the country generated as mineral revenue and a decrease of N23.5 billion in non-mineral revenue from what was generated in the month of September.
Meanwhile the Chairman, Commissioners of Finance Forum, Mahmoud Yunusa, has apologised for the lateness in holding the meeting, which was supposed to have taken place on November 23.
He said the meeting was cancelled by the state governors due to discrepancies found in revenue figures presented by some of the revenue generating agencies.
Mr. Yunusa confirmed that the NNPC had increased what they had initially presented to FAAC as what they had generated after the states showed their displeasure.
He said that to avoid such occurrence, the states as a major stakeholder in NNPC, would henceforth keep “an eagle eye on the affairs of the NNPC”.
“Going forward we will be fully involved in what the NNPC does to avoid this kind of errors in future. We will scrutinise their books,” he said. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/251773-nigerian-govt-states-lgs-share-n532-7-billion-october.htmlhtml

Crude oil is really a curse to Nigeria, years back Nigeria exported palm oil, even funded her budget with proceeds from palm oil then but look at how Nigeria has forgotten about palm oil and became so lazy because of crude oil. Malaysia took palm seed from Nigeria then, Nigeria even taught them how to plant the seed then but, Nigeria imports palm oil from that same Malaysia now. What an irony |

Food › Nigeria Spends $3.2bn On Importation Of Palm Oil In 10-years by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:54am On Dec 07, 2017 |
Nigeria has imported palm oil worth over $3.2billion in the last ten years, LEADERSHIP can authoritatively report.
Findings by LEADERSHIP revealed that the nation imported a cumulative 4,760,000 tonnes of palm oil from 2007 to November, 2017.
Palm oil, hitherto one of the nation’s major foreign exchange earners in the early 1960s is massively imported into the country from Malaysia and Indonesia.
Recall that Nigeria was the largest producer of palm oil in the world with a market share of 43 per cent in the 1960s. But currently, it has a world share of 2.9 per cent, with Indonesia leading by 33 million metric tonnes, Malaysia, 19.8 million metric tonnes; Thailand, two million; Colombia, 1.108 million metric tons and Nigeria, 970,000 metric tonnes.
Palm oil that used to be Nigeria’s biggest export produce before the discovery of crude oil has now been adopted by Asian countries earning over $25.2 billion in exports.
With domestic production currently standing at 970,000 metric tonnes in Nigeria, the country needs an annual 2.7 million tonnes leaving a deficit of 1.73 million tonnes. It was further gathered that despite the high exchange rate and price, the shipment was increased by 12 per cent as global price hit $718 per metric ton.
The price of the commodity, which was $663 per metric ton in July, rose to $718 per ton this November based on high demand by indigenous manufacturers.
According to statistics exclusively obtained by LEADERSHIP, Nigeria now import between 400,000 to 500,000 Metric Tonnes of palm oil from Asia to bridge domestic production. With the country importing 4.7milllion MT at $663 per MT between 2007 to 2017, the country had spent a whopping $3.2 billion importing what can be locally produced.
The breakdown shows that in 2007, Nigeria imported 451,000MT of palm oil while 410,000MT was imported in 2008; 425,000MT in 2009; 435,000MT in 2010; 440,000MT in 2011.
Also, in 2012, Nigeria imported a whopping 470,000MT of palm oil while 518,000MT was imported in 2013; 506,000MT in 2014; 263,000MT in 2015; 400,000MT in 2016 and as at November 2017, 450,000MT of palm oil imported into the country.
Records from the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) also revealed that MASCOT Munchen, is expected to deliver 8112.17 MT of Crude palm oil at Josepdam Terminal on Tuesday. Also, Apapa Bulk Terminal Limited (ABTL) at Lagos Port Complex took delivery of 4,000 tonnes from MV Lady Dahlia, bulk carrier, in the first week of this month, while MV Hamour Endurance is awaiting to discharge about 5,000 tonnes at JosepDam terminal, Tin Can Island Port.
In August this year, three vessels berthed at the Lagos Port Complex and Tin Can with 32,483 tonnes of the commodity. At ABTL were MV GSW Forward and MV Marios G ships, laden with 16,300 tonnes and 11,483 tonnes respectively. Another ship, MV Theresa Success, investigation showed, has also offloaded 5, 000 tonnes of the product at JosepDam terminal.
Findings also revealed that between January and April this year, 50,010 tonnes of the commodity was shipped to the country. According to investigation at the Lagos Port, MV SeaPrice discharged 15,000 tonnes in January; MV Chemtrans Havel, 10,700 tonnes in February; MV Star Ploeg, 16,400 tonnes in March and MV Mid Nature, 8,000 tonnes in April this year.
Following the high demand for palm oil by Nigeria and Ghana this year, a shipping line, CMA CGM in August, imposed a new cargo protection service for shipments of the commodity into the country. http://leadership.ng/2017/12/07/nigeria-spends-3-2bn-importation-palm-oil-10yrs/
