A coalition of Niger Delta Youth has advised former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to suspend his presidential ambition.

The group asked him to rather sit back and play leadership role in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

The group also cautioned Senator Ben-Murray Bruce for flaunting Atiku, reminding him that Atiku was the reason that former President Goodluck Jonathan lost his reelection in 2015.

The coalition in a statement signed by its Chairman, Harry Lawson and Secretary, Preye Wilson, on Wednesday, welcomed the Turaki of Adamawa into the party but urged forget his presidential ambition.

The statement read: “We, the Niger Delta Coalition wish to welcome former Vice President Atiku Abubakar back to the umbrella, a party he formed with other eminent Nigerians in 1998.

“We wish to remind the former Vice President that he destroyed, battered and abandoned the PDP on the October 31st 2013 for a greener pasture in another political party when he was needed most.

“However, we welcome Atiku Abubakar back to the PDP, the party which he called his home. We are happy he has realised his wrong decisions and is back to make amends.

“Nevertheless, we wish to tell him that if PDP is truly his home as he has claimed, then we expect that he plays nothing less than a leadership role in the party. He should channel all his efforts towards the reconstruction, strengthening and building a strong political base for the party. He should truly be a leader and help the party develop winning strategies. He should help in reconciling and bringing back aggrieved members.

“We from the Niger Delta are still nursing the wounds over the role he played that frustrated the re-election of former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015. We are also aware that Atiku is wielding so much financial lobby in the Niger Delta to gather support for his Presidential ambition” they said.

“We expect that the former Vice President should for now bury his Presidential ambition as a display of uncommon leadership and as part of his atonement. He should rather work towards assisting the party to produce an impeccable and credible candidate that will help PDP wrestle the Presidency from the ruling All Progressives Congress, come 2019.”

The coalition also cautioned Senator Bruce for his recent romance with the former vice President at the expense of the region.

“We call on all the leaders from the region especially Senator Ben-Murray Bruce not to fall for his inducements but courageously advice him to be an exemplary leader and allow those who have been dedicated their energy and time to the party to take the shot,” the statement said.

Nigeria’s upper legislative chamber, the Senate, yesterday disclosed that it would pass the N8.612 trillion 2018 Appropriation Bill on December 19, just as it directed its Committee on Appropriation to ensure that the report on the budget is ready on the date.

Consequently, the apex legislative chamber adjourned plenary session to Tuesday, December 19, to enable other standing committees have enough time to engage the various ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) on budget defence having passed it for second reading.

The Senate took these decisions while it was considering the 2018 Appropriation Bill, which it eventually passed for second reading.

Speaking on the passage of the second reading of the budget, Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, said: “We know that the timetable is very tight. We will be suspending plenary for us to be able to start the defense of this budget. Committee chairmen and members should please ensure that we keep to this timetable.”

Saraki warned ministers and heads of agencies and parastatals of government to cooperate with the National Assembly during the budget defence to enable the apex parliament pass the bill on target.

“Let me respond with a general note of warning to all heads of MDAs to ensure that they strictly respect the letters of invitation and the timetable. This is not time for excuses for ministers or heads of parastatals to be travelling and not be able to attend their budget defense.

“We do not have the time. This is a very short timeframe, therefore, I expect all MDAs to be able to respect our invitation and be there on time so that the committees can wrap up and be able to present their reports by the time we come back on Tuesday, December 19.”

He also disclosed that a public hearing on the budget estimates during defence session might take place on Monday, next week.

“There will be a public hearing on the budget. We are looking at Monday, the 11th of December; however, in the next few days, an announcement will be made,” he said.

Also, the Senate has barred the executive arm of government from spending money from any amount arising from crude sales above the benchmark approved by the National Assembly in the 2018 budget.

The chamber cautioned that, for the executive to spend funds from sales above the benchmark, the National Assembly, which has the sole constitutional power of approval, must be contacted for appropriation of such funds.

To ensure compliance by the executive during implementation of the budget, the Senate resolved to insert a new clause into the 2018 Appropriation Act, barring the executive from spending any money realised from the excess benchmark sales.

The resolution followed a motion moved by the Deputy Senate Leader, Bala Ibn Na’ Allah (APC, Kebbi South).

Back then(8years ago) my friend was shot dead by the police(officer from Inland town police Onitsha), what was his crime? His don't want the policeman to take his bike away(ladies machine), the said police man told him no to drag the bike with him again or he will shoot him(he's inside the street not along the road mind you). Brothers and sisters, the policeman shot him at close range on the head leaving his brain spilled on the road, they immediately ran away with their truck, the guy's junior brother and elderly father went to the police station to make a report the incident they got locked up.

Though they were released late night that day, they policeman (shooter) got locked up the next day but to their utmost surprise the next time they visited, the guy has been released or transferred because he's no longer in the cell and the young man that was killed was buried months later with N120,000 police gave to the family.

Two persons parading themselves as officers of Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (F-SARS), have been arrested by Rivers police command.

The suspects; Kenneth Obunwa, and Oluwagbenga Abe, were apprehended on Tuesday morning at Igwuruta near Port Harcourt in Ikwerre LGA of Rivers state.

The state Commander of SARS, Akin Fakorode while parading suspects, said they were arrested after the command received a distress call around 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

He said: “F-SARS received a distress call that Obunwa and Abe, who claimed to be operatives of F-SARS, accosted Pastor Finan and his younger brother and subjected them to thorough search in their compound at Igwuruta, with undisclosed sum of money extorted from them.

“The suspects impersonated as operatives of F-SARS and they have been doing it for a while.

“We quickly responded to the distress call, because the members of the public adequately utilised the distress lines that we gave. We traced the impersonators and we arrested them.

“We have a lot of miscreants who are impersonating security agents, especially F-SARS, thereby harassing, intimidating and extorting money from innocent members of the public, who ought to be very vigilant.

“I wish to admonish members of the public that whenever they find operatives of F-SARS extorting money or persons claiming to be from F-SARS, but involved in impersonation, they should please notify F-SARS through these numbers: 08054000001, 08057000002 and 08057000003, as well as Rivers State Police Command’s Control Room numbers: 08098880134 and 08032003514.”

Fakorode added that the two suspects would be thoroughly investigated and would appear in court soon to serve as a deterrent to other criminal-minded persons.
