Business › FG To Provide Support For Export Of 200m SIM Cards Offshore by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:44am On Dec 12, 2016 |
The Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Okey Enelamah, has affirmed that the Federal Government will continuing to support Nigeria’s first subscribers identity module, SIM cards manufacturing processing company, SECUREID Limited in its bid to export over 200 million SIM cards yearly to 19 countries in sub-Saharan Africa.
Enelamah disclosed this at the commissioning of the multi-billion naira of the firm in Lagos. He said President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration was ready to assist any local manufacturing company willing to export locally manufactured products offshore in a bid to attract foreign exchange into the country.
The Minister noted that the company is a world-class SIM manufacturing firm that will help propagate the present administration’s diversification agenda programme about Nigeria’s quest to becoming an industralised country by the year 2020.
Enelamah added that his ministry will give the required regulatory supports to make sure that the company succeeds in its chosen specialization.
He however explained that the federal government will support the private sector groups to succeed in their businesses by providing conducive enabling environment and level playing ground for them to thrive in their areas of specialisation.
According to him, the company-SECUREID Limited is an example of three critical proponents the present administration has identified in its quest to make Nigeria become a technology driven nation- entrepreneurship, manufacturing and ICT.
“What I find very interesting is that the company we are celebrating is an interception of three things that are vital to us as a country and to this government in terms of our strategy- entrepreneurship, manufacturing, whole technology and telecoms space. It’s not often you get a company that can somehow combined the sweet-side of the three components.
‘‘But it takes entrepreneur vision, drive and zeal to make it happen. As a country and a government, we must support more and more of our entrepreneurs to pursue their dreams and vision to realize and allow them reach their full potentials”.
He continued: “This plant is a world class technology based because of the sophisticated technology and equipment installed.
‘‘So what I can assure you is that we will continue to support you to produce more and more often of SIM cards and to add values to employment generation and improved on the administration’s import substitution strategy,” the minister added.
Also speaking, the Acting Managing Director, Bank of Industry, Mr. Waheed Olagunju, said that the bank will continue to support genuine manufacturing company with lending to grow their business and attain full potential.
He noted that it is time for the country to grow its non-oil sector to attain full development at a period crude oil is no longer attractive.
Olagunju noted that BoI is willing to lend to manufacturing companies in the country to get Nigeria’s economy out of being import dependent nation.
He added that the backward integration programme of the present government was key to industrialisation of the country.
He noted that the SIM card commissioning will create more employment opportunities which mean more workers will also pay more taxes which will be beneficial to Lagos state government. http://leadership.ng/business/563581/fg-to-provide-support-for-export-of-200m-sim-cards-offshoreLalasticlala, Mynd44

•Army rescues 16 abducted NYSC members
•Observers indict army, police over hijack of electoral materials
•APC’s Abe wins senatorial seat as PDP kicks The violence that characterised the legislative rerun election in Rivers State on Saturday has claimed the lives of some policemen. A senior police officer, DSP Alkali Mohammed of Mobile Police Unit 48, and his orderly were beheaded by unknown persons when they ran into an ambush at Ujju Community near Omoku in Onelga.
Three other policemen escaped while five others are missing. The police patrol vehicle, which was conveying the 10 policemen, was taken away with weapons by suspected hoodlums. Major General Kashimu Abdulkarim, the General Officer Commanding of the 6 Division disclosed this yesterday.
“The most brutal incidence occurred at Ujju Community near Omoku in Onelga where a police patrol team was ambushed. In the ambush, 10 policemen scampered into the bush.
“The Mobile Police organised a rescue mission. Regrettably, the team discovered that DSP Alkali Mohammed of Mobile Police Unit 48 was beheaded along with his orderly.
The patrol vehicle was taken away with weapons, three policemen escaped while five were missing in action,” Abdulkarim disclosed. The Nigerian Army also rescued 16 members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) who were abducted during the polls.
According to the GOC, “In Abonema, there were three explosions that created bedlam. Subsequently, 11 NYSC members were abducted along with electoral materials.
However, 10 of them were rescued two hours later by the soldiers while one was rescued about eight hours later. “At Emouha, Mr. Oblewaremu abducted five NYSC members with election materials in a Sienna bus.
The corps members were rescued while the suspect was handed over to the police.” Maj-Gen. Abdulkarim dismissed the claims that soldiers carted away sensitive INEC materials during the polls.
He said: “The 6 Division, Nigerian Army remained apolitical in the conduct of the election. Its soldiers provided perimeter defence to ward off hoodlums and miscreants. “Nigerian Army troops were, in no way, involved in any form of ballot box snatching, neither were they involved in the escort of politicians as alleged.
“They acted swiftly in response to security breaches in order to enforce the law, provide aid to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies, especially in areas like Abonema, Etche, Gokhana, Ikwere, Eleme, Tai, Khana and Omoku, amongst others.
“Susceptibility of mentioned areas warranted providing security for the electoral officials, voters, international and local observers, in conjunction with other security agencies by soldiers for a peaceful election to thrive in the environment.
“These were areas where armed men engaged security personnel. In Gokhana, armed hoodlums engaged the soldiers providing outer perimeter defence for the electorate.Several shootings were recorded in some communities such as Bodo, the home town of the Secretary to the State Government, B-dere and Mogho in Gokhana LGA, including snatching of ballot boxes.”
Abdulkarim also denied claims that the army connived with some politicians to influence the outcome of the just-concluded legislative elections in the state.
“The allegation that soldiers carried out killings and mass arrest in Tai and Gokana Local Government Areas during the legislative rerun election is false. “In addition, the allegations made by some respected politicians regarding deep involvement of soldiers during the elections were aimed at tarnishing the positive image of the army.
“These people (politicians) allegedly accused soldiers of snatching ballot boxes, illegal escort of some politicians and arrest and detention of voters during the elections which is totally untrue.
“Members of the public should consider these weighty accusations that present soldiers in a negative manner as mere farce to garner public sympathy,” he said.
Meanwhile, some officers of the Nigerian Army and operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) yesterday arrested some chieftains of the PDP.
The security operatives allegedly disrupted the announcement of result by INEC staff that did not favour the candidates of the APC. In Ikwerre Local Government Area, a team of police officers held the council’s caretaker committee chairman, Samuel Nwanosike, other PDP chieftains and Electoral Officers hostage. Sources said that one CP David, who was in charge of the senatorial zone, led hundreds of police personnel in the operation.
In Emuoha Local Government Area, soldiers invaded the area and arrested John Wokoma, the caretaker committee chairman at the council secretariat, and whisked him away to an unknown destination. The Rivers State Government said that the operation was led by Col. Ali, acting on instructions from the Brigade Commander.
Sources said that before Wokoma’s arrest, the soldiers had chased away the agents of the PDP. In Ahoada West Local Government Area, operatives of SARS in the company of a chieftain of the APC, shot sporadically and chased away all PDP agents at the collation centre for Ahoada West.
At the INEC office in Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area, soldiers and SARS operatives allegedly chased away party agents, corps members, newsmen, and observers after using an Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to block the entrance to the collation centre. https://newtelegraphonline.com/rivers-rerun-police-officers-beheaded-5-others-missing/Lalasticlala, Mynd44

Politics › Rivers Rerun: Army Reacts To Wike, Others Accusations.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:49am On Dec 11, 2016 |
The 6 Division, Nigerian Army, Port Harcourt, has said that the allegations made by Governor Nyesom Wike and other politicians, accusing the military of involvement in the Saturday legislative re-run elections in the state are aimed at tarnishing the image of the army.
Maj.-Gen. Kasimu Abdulkarim, the General Officer Commanding of the 6 division reacted to the allegations in a statement made available the Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Sunday.
Abdulkarim flatly denied accusations that soldiers were involved in mass killing and arrest at Tai and Gokhana Local Government Areas of Rivers.
“It is true that soldiers of 6 Division Nigerian Army provided security during the Rivers legislative re-run election.
“These people allegedly accused soldiers of ballot box snatching, illegal escorts of some politicians, arrest and detention of voters during the general conduct of the elections.
“The weighty nature of these allegations could cause members of the public to view soldiers negatively, hence the need to adequately inform the general public on the true perspective.
“The public thus need to consider them as mere farce to garner public sympathy,” the GOC said.
According to Abdulkarim, the 6 Division, Nigerian Army remained apolitical in the conduct of the election. Its soldiers provided perimeter defence to ward off hoodlums and miscreants.
He said that the troops were in no way involved in any form of ballot box snatching, neither were they involved in the escort of politicians as alleged.
“They acted swiftly in response to security breaches in order to enforce the law, provide aid to the police and other security agencies especially in areas like Abonema, Etche, Gokhana, Ikwere, Eleme, Tai, Khana and Omoku amongst others.
“Susceptibility of mentioned areas warranted providing security for the electoral officials, voters, international and local observers, in conjunction with other security agencies by soldiers for a peaceful election to thrive in the environment,” he said.
The GOC said those areas were violated by armed men, who engaged security personnel in shootout.
“In Gokhana, armed hoodlums engaged the soldiers providing outer perimeter defence for the electorates.
“In Abonema there were three explosions that created bedlam.
“Subsequently, 11 NYSC members were abducted along with electoral materials.
“However, 10 of them were rescued two hours later by the soldiers while one was rescued about eight hours later.
“At Emouh five NYSC members were abducted with election materials in a Siena bus.
“The corps members were rescued while the suspect was handed over to the police.
“Several shooting were recorded in some communities such as Bodo, the home town of the Secretary to the State Government, and Mogho in Gokhana Local Government Area, including snatching of ballot boxes.
“The most brutal incidence occurred at Ujju Community near Omoku in Onelga where police patrol team was ambushed. In the ambush, 10 policemen scampered into the bush.
“These attacks are reasonable evidence of violations of breach of law and order which portray the area as a flash point.
“In spite these barbarism, soldiers acted with civility and professionalism in guaranteeing peaceful election,” he said.
Abdulkarim said that the army as a respected institution with constitutional responsibility to safeguard lives and property, could not watch miscreants and hoodlums abduct, maim and kill innocent citizens, especially “in senseless attacks.”
He described the accusations of soldiers partisanship as “sham and phoney”.
He said that the division would continue to remain apolitical in the ischarge of its roles. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/rivers-rerun-army-reacts-to-wike-others-accusations/175481.htmlLalasticlala, Mynd44
