I wish it was that easy

true and the women who stand up for other women are termed feminazis and man haters.

Um. it's the annoying complacency of people like davidylan that will keep us in the dark ages.

Someone I know was being beaten by her husband like a dog. She went to the police to complain and the police man said and I quote

"Go back to your husband you useless woman. Wetin, you no fit cook soup"

there are few topics that get me to post on nairaland and this is one of them.

It is inarguable that there is gender inequality in most parts of the world and it's manifested in different ways, the wage gap in Western cultures, female genital mutilation in lovely Africa, forced marriages and trafficking, some lovely chauvinist pigs here on nairaland .

OK you've got it, women get shafted all over the world. So why is it such a big deal if women are saying. Enough with this nonsense, women are essential part of the homo sapiens species, stop treating us like crap and take us seriously

p.s if anyone goes on about how women don't pay during dates and the like, SHUT IT. From my experience, just this past weekend I went to drinks and a movie with a guy and he paid for the drinks, I paid for the movie and it was not a big deal.

OK i should be working but I'm bored, so fire away
Fashion / Re: Wigs, Weaves And Perms Symbolize Self Hate by beebop(f): 2:15pm On Nov 25, 2008
-It is the one true way that can be used to discern a full blooded nubian king and queen from other groups,
bullsh-t

-It is curly because it follows the rhythm of natural divine motion which spirals or cycles,
bullsh-t

-Everything in nature moves in cycles and spirals; from planetary and galactic orbits to seasons to electronic orbitals,
true in some cases. but why is my poop cylindrical? isn't that natural OH MY GOSH, I'm not a full-blooded NUBIAN QUEEN. I need to go cry! My life is worthless!

-The nubian is naturally in tune with the cosmic rhythm thats why our hair has a 9 ether structure. It spirals out of its roots and coils like a 9,
for real! I feel so much more edumacated now.

-Those familiar with numerology know that 9 is the number of completion, wholeness.
ngwa, preach on

-Straight hair on the other hand, is a 6 ether, given that it comes out of its root straight as a result of disturbance, an inherent rythm that is not nsync with divine order, The antithesis of blackness.
Where is my razor. make i shave off the 'inherent rythm'. P.S Look at your dictionary before you start blowing grammar. in sync, nsync is the name of a thankfully expired boyband

-When you sistas alter your divine crown, the 9 ether structure of your hair, you automatically get demoted from your royal status of goddesshood due to lack of oneness with, and disconnection from, the natural cosmic rhythm.

THIS IS IT. I"M NO LONGER A GODDESS. damn, i'm missing out. where is the barber. i'm tired of my self-hate. I need to go natural to prove my 'blackness'. my life sucks. i'm a mere common person now.

abeg go find chill pill and do all of us a favor and overdose on it.

Romance / Re: Engaged, Pregnant And Competing With A Fellow Nigerian Woman! by beebop(f): 5:11pm On Sep 15, 2008
It irritates me how judgmental women are here. what's up with all this cow analogies, abi you've never trusted someone and had your trust broken. Now you're going on about how she should have closed her legs until she was married, don't you know how many married men have cheated on their wives. virginity is overrated, oh!
@ poster, nothing I can say that hasn't been said before. But seriously go live your life a happy and independent woman and give that child the upbringing he/she deserves. You don't need a man to justify your existence
Foreign Affairs / Re: Palin's (McCain's Vice) Teenage Daughter Pregnant by beebop(f): 5:09am On Sep 02, 2008
can we get the word fornicate banned from the lexicon. I've only heard judgmental nigerians use that word and it's so annoying

and while we're at it, please stop equating drugs and sex. It's not the same thing. I would like to think that if I had children, I wouldn't actively prevent them from having sex, just making sure they know the pros and cons and that they know to be safe and to respect potential partners and themselves. So that they don't feel like they have to go hide and do all this corner-corner.

go and research teen pregnancy rates in socially liberal countries with high levels of education. they are even begging people to have children there.

Foreign Affairs / Re: Obama Disowns Okereke-onyiuke, Others by beebop(f): 8:01pm On Aug 19, 2008
OK three things

1. She stressed that she wasn't raising the money for Obama's campaign directly, so I don't see how it's impacting his run. Do you think that the average person in Alabama is going to give a shit about if some people in a country they can't pick out of the map support him? No.

2. All these people going on about benefiting the poor. How do you know what initiatives she's done for the poor. All these passing judgment left and right. When you go to the bar, do you stop and think about how much good you'll do for the beggar on the street if you gave him the money for one beer? No. I'm not endorsing excess but seriously, people spend money on themselves. It does not make them horrible people.

3. I'm dismayed that people are castigating her based on her looks. (OK I admit my bias here, I know and deeply respect her personally) But a woman who has such a force of will and who has made it to the top of her profession in such a sexist, chauvinistic, deeply depressing society such as Nigeria deserves respect. I don't necessarily agree with many of her actions but you can't that away from her

she makes me proud to be female

Politics / Re: I Watched As Snipers Killed Six Kidnappers by beebop(f): 3:36pm On Aug 16, 2008
So what if he pays and they just take the money and still sniff you out?

At least, he made an effort. He let her rot for almost three weeks!! Look I believe that these criminals in the Niger Delta should not be supported and I'm glad that she lived (despite the psychological trauma) but this is evident of a larger malaise in this society. This belief that women are expendable. I'm sure he was already scouting around for a replacement wife.

If it was the other way round, walahi, he would be directing his wife to empty her bank account sharp sharp
Politics / Re: I Watched As Snipers Killed Six Kidnappers by beebop(f): 4:25am On Aug 16, 2008
if i was in a stinky jungle with blood all over and gangsters threatening to kill me and all my husband said is "god will take care of it". I'll f-cking break his balls.

and get divorced.
Politics / Re: I Watched As Snipers Killed Six Kidnappers by beebop(f): 3:49am On Aug 16, 2008
so between money and the life of your wife is some huge choice.

he no fit price?

the husband is an asshole
Politics / Re: I Watched As Snipers Killed Six Kidnappers by beebop(f): 6:27pm On Aug 15, 2008
wait, everyone is going on about tactical commando bullshit (even though that story has k-legs) and didn't even think about this ,

If you are kidnapped, wouldn't your loved one do anything to get you back safe and sound? EVEN paying ransom. It seemed to me that the husband didn't give a shit if his wife lived or died. Assuming the whole Rambo thing is true, wouldn't you be terrified that your wife would be caught in the crossfire?

Nigerian men!

Romance / Re: Why Most Guys Abroad Prefer Not Dating Maybe Marrying African Ladies? by beebop(f): 10:52pm On Jul 13, 2008
you keep calling all the women in this thread bitches. Can you get more original, honey, that's boring.

if black ladies are the worst you've been with, you my friend are the most sexist, arrogant, chauvinistic person it's my displeasure to 'meet'. I honestly wouldn't wish you on my worst enemy, I know a bunch of people from Portland and they are the most fun, openminded people I know, wonder which gutter you crawled out of.

Oops, I'm stooping to your level by calling you names. Final word of advice, do get that giant stick out of your ass because then you'll find out that life can be fun, 'kay?
Romance / Re: Why Most Guys Abroad Prefer Not Dating Maybe Marrying African Ladies? by beebop(f): 3:13am On Jul 13, 2008
oh and i forgot this gem

"African ladies note, especially if you live abroad, if you want to attract an African guy, you need to have your shit together and act like a lady. Always keep it cool and don’t be a bitch. Otherwise the White ladies are here to take over every African guy living abroad. Don’t say I didn’t tell you. In that case if you still insist of marrying African, you have to take your ass back home to African to pick out a timid uncivilized guy and bring him here and tame him to be fit to take the challenge that awaits him abroad. If you are African lady and you are worried that White ladies are taking your African guys. No worry, actually you should worry, but not too much. There are a lot of qualified civilized African guys back home if they are not already taken. Is time to get your act together. So, just don't do it, do it fast."

as an African lady living abroad I take great pleasure in disregarding every bit of your condescending, dumbass statement. Trust me, I'm not lacking in any guy to date, african or otherwise. Anyone can date whoever the Bleep they like, it's not like a fish market. Wake up honey, it's the 21st century

@poster
"the relationship ended because she doesn’t seem to listen and take instructions" - ummm ok

your entire boring bible of how to stereotype this and that type of woman made me shake my head. Are you Mr. Perfect? I think not. I think the woman who can't "take instructions" must be thanking her stars day and night that she escaped from your sanctimonious clutches.

*snore
Romance / Re: Urgent:ladies This Is For You To Respond Asap:thanks by beebop(f): 2:50am On Jul 13, 2008
jeez, someone is acting like a teenager here. No is no and doesn't mean that you treat her like an enemy.

as for the "running her mouth like the ladies always do" comment, generalize much? Maybe you need to reevaluate the way you treat women and then they will be falling into your lap and not laughing into your face
Romance / Re: The Sexes Are Equal: Not The Same Abilities, But Equal Weight! by beebop(f): 12:08am On Jul 01, 2008
dictionary.com
submissive
1. inclined or ready to submit; unresistingly or humbly obedient: submissive servants.

methinks this word is way overused. I only go to church in nigeria but I remember one time the pastor was talking about traits of a submissive wife and he yelled that a submissive wife should wake up at 4am to cook her husband's lunch before she goes to work and come back and wash his feet.

he was referring to a family where the parents  are joint breadwinners. my response was to make a bored face and continue daydreaming

Now, it's reasonable to understand that there are certain tasks in a family that the woman is socialized to perform and vice-versa, but when two people are joint breadwinners is it not reasonable to understand that the tasks should be evenly shared?

I'm not married, but I do have a boyfriend who cooks and cleans (and even bakes for me) and even though we most likely won't get married, i don't think that he's going to change if and when he does

then again he isn't nigerian
Romance / Re: The Sexes Are Equal: Not The Same Abilities, But Equal Weight! by beebop(f): 11:57pm On Jun 30, 2008
please this submissive wife bullshit has got to stop. submissive wife = doormat.

what's wrong with mutual respect and sharing?

what is that place? the kitchen?

where women can sit docilely waiting for their man to come back from wherever and give them the STDs they picked up on the way home
Romance / Re: Dating Younger Girls! by beebop(f): 12:45am On Apr 01, 2008
switcher sounds exactly like the retarded little boys i do my best to avoid. yawn

on the other side of the spectrum. my current boyfriend is 10 years older than me, has a great paying job while i earn zero, has much more education than i do. however, he doesn't condescend to me and we can and do talk about a wide variety of things. i have my pride, i occasionally pay for drinks/dinner on our nights out. i stay within my limited budget and he doesn't 'supplement' my income.

pity that we might soon break up if i move

TV/Movies / Re: Movie Recommendation Thread by beebop(f): 11:15pm On Dec 25, 2006
Huge movie buff here,

hm, OK non mainstream (Hollywood i mean) films
Korean director Park Chan Wook, Old boy, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance--- quite violent, but stylized and very mesmerizing. Tarantino copies him
French films-- District B13, L'auberge espanole someone mentioned La Haine, but check out other films from the director Mathieu Kassovitz, don't remember offhand, if you like Count of Monte Cristo check out the french version with Gerard Depardieu, long but worth it, Cache etc,
Spanish: y tu mama tambien, Maria full of Grace, Motorcycle Diaries, habla con ella
City of God--- great Brazilian film

I could go onnn, new favourites, Little Miss Sunshine, absolutely delightful, haven't seen The Departed or Babel but heard good things about it, Casino Royale is yummy,
