Crime / Re: Update On Adaobi Obih's Murder - Roommate Wanted For Murder by beebop(f): 12:50pm On Nov 25, 2013
I'm a black female who's had flatmates of a variety of races.

Worst ever flatmate was another black girl. If I ever got murdered by anyone, it would be her.

Second worst were a pair of North African sisters. Filthy goats, both of them.

Favorite ever flatmate was a white European guy. We got along very well, lived our lives separately but we both were very clean in shared spaces, could watch TV together on occasion and chat and have dinner and never ever quarrelled.

Please stop generalizing and blaming the victim. She did not deserve to die. I repeat before some morons keep going on about how she should have been careful. She did nothing to warrant her death and could not have foretold it. She must have felt that he was a responsible person who could pay bills on time and she could get along with him then all the better for it.

I hope her family gains the fortitude to bear her loss and justice is served to the vile murderer.

Read properly before commenting. I wasn't supporting him
kingthreat:

Madam, google the cost of Renal transplant in India. The highest cost is N5-N7 million. OJB is asking for 16 million. 10 million more of the surgery fees and you are here supporting him? Rather than support OJB, I rather go to LUTH and donate to those in need of just 5 million to save their lives. The sooner, you realise that this is exaggeration of sympathy, the wiser for you.

By now, OJB should have more than enough from celebs and anonymous donors so you tell me why hasn't the donations being called off? I am sympathetic. I love many of OJB's songs. But I definitely am not stupid!!!

I'm hesitant to comment on this topic as I've seen all these vile attacks on people who are not 100% in support of this.

Basically, the biggest issue for me is that every few months, there is someone getting attention on social media and the press for an ailment or another. This will inevitably create "donor fatigue" where people will be tired of being asked to donate to every cause of the minute and vilified if they decide not to.

So I do think it's somewhat unfair of OJB to request N15 million arbitrarily where it's a FACT that thousands of people will be happy to receive N3 or 2 million to go to local hospitals for renal transplants (by far the most common transplant there is) including aftercare (or even N6 million for India trips). So is OJB worth 5 lives (or another life that can be saved in India)? And I also see potential avenue for abuse where donations are not transparent, there is no breakdown of amount received vs costs anticipated. Transparency is important to set precedent so it can weed out the dishonest that WILL eventually try to abuse the generosity of Nigerians.

In any case, I'm glad that kidney diseases have been brought to the forefront and alternatives explored. And it highlights the sorry state of our medical facilities and the complete lack of any welfare state. Nigeria cannot keep crowdsourcing healthcare, it is not sustainable, sooner or later fatigue will set in. If we had any kind of government, they should ask themselves how Nigeria will move forward if we cannot even take care of our citizens.

I have nothing against people who are willing to donate. I have and will, time and again donated cash/time to causes/people I strongly believe in. I don't have unlimited cash and I know I cannot help everyone that comes to my attention and needs help. But before I part with my cash, I like to know that it's directly going to support the cause/person it was intended to.

gosh don't be gullible. Amosu created ONE LIMITED EDITION BOTTLE that was valued at that much (obviously inflated to appeal to the Porsche Center crowd). The champagne itself is probably priced above the already overpriced Veuves and Moets of the world to appeal to all the money miss roads in Lagos and Abuja where champagne consumption is skyrocketing.

ALL NA WASH - nice marketing campaign though, getting Don Jazzy to tweet. They got their name to shine bright above the Dom Perignons, very tacky though.

Next week all those fatty acids in the clubs will be flashing a bottle of "1 million dollar champagne'', retail price 8k max, club price 30k max.

Look up rules in other countries. Deaf people are allowed to drive in most states in the USA. Disabled people learn to adjust with other methods and indeed, can be more alert to their surroundings. A blind friend can 'see' a lot better than I can sometimes.

In this country, with this kind of prejudices, how can you condemn someone with a disability trying to make his way in life as best as he can. Show me how many people he's killed in 15 years of driving.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.

A woman's selfworth is not tied to her v.agina. Whether she is a virgin or no, her character, intelligence, and person should be far more important criteria than a thin piece of skin located in her private parts. Women should stop selling themselves short, biko, it's very irritating to read the million and one posts on someone's virginity. We're in 2013 not 1950, if you marry a virgin, clap for yourself. If you marry a good person, other people will clap for you.

The big two, Jumia and Konga, both have potential with some drawbacks. I far prefer Konga though.

Konga: Pluses: much better website with better interface, good customer service and the most important, on-time delivery (at least the times I've used it), Nigerian-owned (that's a plus for me). Minuses: not as stocked as Jumia, though I see now that they've started selling apparel, but I'm not too impressed with their selection.

Jumia: Pluses: Decent customer service, though honestly I get irritated when they recite their lines. Minuses: Disorganized, never got a delivery on time and got it wrong or not in stock or wrong item, overpriced especially their apparel section, dodgy antecedents, ugly and poorly-functional website

I strongly strongly recommend that you pay on delivery and that you inspect your item prior to paying for it.

Sam Milla: The greatest weapon of women is their mouth.
They can tell you things you never dream of hearing in your life time. They can run their mouth from morning to night especially when they see their faces on tv or magazine. They always think that they married the wrong man especially if they are making enough money for themselves.

It requires a very restrictive man to avoid beating them all the time.

I don't like or endorse what the 'blade guy' did but living women must learn to avoid saying certain things. Anger can cause anything.
Little wonder people kill their wives daily in USA.

You, sir, are a pig. YES I said it with my mouth. I should hope never to encounter an individual like you in real life who cannot control his impulses.

I guess I should stop being shocked and disgusted by what some Nigerian men spout out but this time, I'm ready to puke.

1. NONE of you know the character of Reeva Steenkamp. HOW can you be so quick to judge that she "provoked" him. What ever happened that night, SHE DID NOT DESERVE to lose her life. And to even justify her death by saying that "some" women are whatever kind of people is plain disgusting. Pistorious HAS HIMSELF TO BLAME for losing his career over his trigger finger, accident or not.

2. I've said it before and I'll say it again. There is NO amount of provocation that warrants beating or murder. NONE. WALK away and be the bigger individual. I have seen men beating women on the slightest (non) provocation and there should be a special place in hell for those B.astards. If you come across "troublesome" women, LEAVE. I don't even know where you come across these people, no man in my immediate family or any man I call friend has never HAD cause to beat a woman.

May Nigerian women be saved from these men who will kill. maim and beat a woman and blame it on them.

Last time I looked, we were in a democracy which allows us to question the decisions of the state government and even deem them as idiotic or inspired. Living in a country as corrupt as Nigeria is, I'm sorry if I shouldn't be skeptical and just swallow everything our dear leaders shove at us and not express my "opinion" and keep quiet.

I'm not sure what privileged economic information that the governor has that is not manifested in the state that is outwardly one of the worst places I've seen in my life, economically speaking. FACT and not opinion.

With this note I'm off. Enjoy your hard earned lucre from spreading propaganda and telling citizens to keep quiet and stop questioning. I hope you can sleep well at night

Eko Ile:

You don't know how to read or you are just hopelessly reta..rded. The state made a decision to build a airport based on their needs and the governor justified the need with sensible economic reasons and realities. You don't have to agree with him based on your own layman opinion, but he's the governor and he's privileged with economic info that you don't have.

What you have is opinion and nothing more so keep quiet with all that gra gra nonsense. Learn to respect other peoples opinion no matter how well reasoned you sound to yourself.
Politics / Re: Bauchi To Spend N7.9billion On Airport by beebop(f): 8:09pm On Jan 27, 2013
Eko Ile:

I bet you call this rubbish a well reasoned argument. My numbered points are there if you know how to read and comprehend. The fact that you think your points are well reasoned doesn't mean its well reasoned to the next man.

Please make your point if you have any or move on.

grin Is your a.sshole tingling? Other people have made good points that doesn't warrant rehashing. The further questions raised that I do not see any of your a.rselicking answers to are, IS there a COMPARATIVE advantage to having an airport in Bauchi State? Can the money invested in the airport not be spent in overhauling other primary industries that can potentially involve a lot of LOW SKILLED labour with tangible RETURNS over time? If I was making a cost benefit analysis (Google it), would 7.9 billion spent on an airport make enough returns that will warrant the investment?

I said that I have been to Bauchi state and my responses to these questions have been articulated well enough by people above it. Now YOU are making a case for the airport SO ANSWER these questions. I have seen your responses and they are not satisfactory
Politics / Re: Bauchi To Spend N7.9billion On Airport by beebop(f): 7:22pm On Jan 27, 2013
Are you a special assistant of chopping money in Bauchi state?

People have come with well reasoned arguments at the pointlessness of building an airport in Bauchi and your only rejoinder is to insult them

Come with well reasoned arguments with economic benefits on how an airport is a superior investment to basic primary industries such as agriculture or even education and we can talk.

I have been to Bauchi state in the last year. I have also been to Yankari Game Reserve which has totally fallen apart. Come again with a proper argument and for now, you are talking out of your arse
Eko Ile:

All your doom and gloom opinion is really pointless. They reasoned back in the 80s that this Airport is in their future based on their needs as articulated by the governor and not on your internet opinion and second guessing.

The airport is not even ready yet, but you've labeled it a white elephant. You are walking faster than your brain .

Nairaland / General / Re: 90% Of Rape Cases Are Self-inflicted - Katsina Attorney General by beebop(f): 4:04pm On Nov 26, 2012
Well over 90% of sexual assault victims and domestic violence victims are women. By any standards, in any country, women are disproportionately victims of sexual assault. Eliminating violence against women (if that is ever possible) will eliminate the VAST majority of violence. Women have been marginalized for so long especially by nincompoops like that donkey Attorney General. One day to recognize the fact does not negate the fact that all forms of violence is abhorrent.

solbil: i understand the victims also and sometimes have a role in cases like these, but the issue with blaming them is; we trivialize the gravity of the offence commited by the perpetrators. We make the perpetrators feel like they gave to the victims what they deserved.

Note that i used "victim" and not "women" . Women are not only victims of things like this. I think we shouldnt be celebrating any world day for violence against women. Instead we should be trying to eliminate all kinds of violence what so ever

How is it insulting to inquire how a not-for-profit organization gets the wherewithal to buy private jets costing untold millions in a country where more than 70% of the population cannot eat three meals a day.

How is it "touching your anointed". UGH I'm so disgusted.

BTW I've volunteered and worked for several not-for-profit organizations and I tell you, everyone in those organizations (many of whom are atheists) can think of MANY MANY things to do with $40 million.

On a lighter note I wonder who I'd rather chill with in the afterlife. The many dedicated atheists I've met who work and make sacrifices for others on a daily basis and are amazing human beings. Or the pompous arrogant private jet owners who are treated as demi-gods by their sheep.

Where is it recommended, which studies and which sources can you provide that proves that children on seeing private parts at an early age teaches sexual habits Please properly vetted scientific studies not bible class

I dunno why this is getting me up in arms but seriously, I had an uninhibited father who I regularly inadvertently found naked from an early age but I ONLY realized the s.exual function of private parts around puberty (WHICH is normal, I don't recall ever "playing" around or even being particularly interested pre-puberty). I don't think the human body is sinful or something to be ashamed of. I'm not an exhibitionist or someone who struts around naked at home because I'm innately shy but I've never seen bodies as PRIMARILY sexual.

This is the same people that will castigate a woman b.reast-feeding as exposing her b.reasts lewdly

ileobatojo:

It is recommended at a certain age to not expose yourself in front of children especially opposite sex children. Probably around the age of 4 or 5 or so is the recommended age. It doesn't mean you are an abuser if you do but you want to teach age appropriate sex education. Why are you interested in teaching your 4 year old about adults private parts? They can be taught about their own shikena. Maybe even mention that opposite sex have different parts but they don't need graphic anatomical details about this topic at this age. Also you want to teach and model to them that private parts are private. How can you teach them not to show their private parts to others when you model that it's okay to put yours on full display?

Again it doesn't make you an abuser or a bad father but there is some validity to your wife's concern though she may be on the extreme opposite end of you.

As a girl child who saw her father's and brother's things ALL through my childhood, I was remarkably uncurious about it, I remember calling it their "pee pee".

It's only when I was an adult capable of making my own decisions when I first came up close and personal with an erect blockus and realized that it can do things other than pee

and friends and neighbours, IT'S ONLY G.ENITALS.

So basically to poster. Don't mind those idiots saying that you are ruining your (girl) children's lives because they accidentally walked into your room and saw your blockus. I never even thought about the fact that my male relatives had them. Now it's another thing when walking into daddy and mummy getting busy, that just scarred me for life. Focus on being an interesting individual, loving, well-read, exposed, ambitious etc. Find what's more important to you in life and focus on that.

Awesome thread!

I'm not quite the traveler Mr BrownJay is but I have lived (a year or more) in five countries. The US and the rest in Europe - so most of my travel experience has been in Europe, some Asia (Hong Kong), the US/Canada and as I'm now in Naija for the moment, I'll be doing some extensive travel of Naija through work.

Last summer was hilarious though; Poland and the Czech Republic. Prague is super touristy now and expensive compared to the rest of the region so I did not enjoy it as much. I found Warsaw dreary and Krakow is almost Prague-levels of touristy. Very few blacks in Poland but wow I got HIT on by some men in Poland. HIT on, which stunned me, considering that most Polish men have girlfriends at 18 and marry them by 24. Also endless amounts of vodka, as I was hanging with Poles. ENDLESS. But I had more fun in the Czech Republic, in Olomouc btw Krakow and Prague. LOVED it, Moravian wine, as much pig as you can eat, delicious beer. I got stared at a bit much though, considering I was traveling solo but managed to link up with some fellow tourists for some SERIOUS drinking, I even developed a taste for Becherovska. Hoping to try to go back this summer, and also hit Hungary.

Germany kind of sucks but Berlin is amazing. AMAZING. complete blur. I used to date a guy who lived in NRW but that region sucks. Except Cologne, but it's not that exciting either.

just read this and want to respond to @gabylynn.

AFAIK, there is no travel ban on HIV positive people on entering the US (http://travel.state.gov/visa/laws/telegrams/telegrams_4631.html) the ban was lifted a year ago, I would travel with a copy of the State Dept circular if I were you so you'd know your rights and if you were stopped, you can educate travel officials. SO technically you should be able to travel with your antiretrovirals but anything can happen knowing naija but in the US you technically should have no problems. BUT if you're having your baby in the States, I'd imagine that it's IMPERATIVE that your doctors in the US know your status so that they can limit transmission to your child. If you're in contact with an obstetrician in the States (you should be! if you're planning to deliver there. ESPECIALLY a high risk situation like yours), they take patient confidentiality seriously and they wouldn't disclose your status to your family.

Hope it helps. Research thoroughly (information on travel bans is easily available online), find a trusted doctor, be safe and good luck
