GodCovenant:
God opened my eyes this morning, and I saw huge cobwebs all over my house.

I had a dream where my long-time enemy came to my house, and he said if I were aware that he was attacking me. I said, "Of course," or he thinks I don't know all this while.

Somehow I woke up and started praying. I then light my prayer candle. I have a lot of Christian songs, but in that moment I was looking for a mixed foreign Christian song that is soothing like blues.

I find one. Which lasted for 2 hours 30 minutes. After praying I use it to sleep as it was playing from my phone while my prayer candle was on.

I woke up this morning as I closed my eyes just lying down; I saw huge cobwebs all over my apartment with big, big spiders. The type you can't move around without them touching you.

But they are not visible to ordinary eyes.

I am just thinking how to remove them since they are not a physical thing.
Pardon my ignorance. What’s a prayer candle?

Most Nigerians... Infact most humans develop some kind of entitlement habits after a while of getting constant help. It's a normal psychological design problem. Imagine always giving, let's say a young kid, 500 naira every day for school. You would notice soon it becomes a regular for them, and they might even wait for you at some point. The moment you drop down to 200 or 100 or nothing at all... I will stop here 😂
I believe upbringing also matters. There's Somebody that I’ve supported so much & is not family. I realized over time ,I’ve given him free cash totaling around $500. He asked for financial support before employment cause he used to work in cooperate, but resigned for ministry. Being that it’s a mainstream church, he had to undergo vigorous training & testing before ordination. He got ordained & was posted near my grandma’s village. Actually 30 minutes drive and passes close to her home, on his way to the local town. He became friends with my aunt & has also visited grandma’s home in the past for an occasion I was hosting .
3 weeks ago, we lost an uncle. There was a pending hospital bill in addition to funeral costs. I requested for support from my so called friend. He said he’d call my cousin to offer a message of condolence & send some money. Guess what? Two other friends supported & my cousin updated the contributions list.
Dude gave nothing and never visited my family, despite being a reverend of the same church denomination. Matter of fact, he’s friends with their local Reverend. He never asked how the funeral went or how we are coping emotionally.
I was so upset, but decided to say nothing and acted normal. Am wiser now. Everyone gets their turn to face some difficulties. If he has a brain, he’ll never ask me for support. A mutual friend told me that the same guy called her to borrow some money from her. Since that time, he pretended to have forgotten and has never refunded the loan. People are super selfish. They don’t care when it’s not them in trouble.

LiteratureRe: Short Story: The Selfish Neighbor by Beey(f): 1:08am On May 13
tonystark007:
We had a small get-together in our compound one evening. That was actually the first time I properly spoke to one of my neighbors. Funny enough, after a few drinks, we discovered his office is just a few buildings away from mine.

Meanwhile, I had been living in that compound for over a year and we had never vibed like that. Lagos can be like that, everybody just minding their business.

Later that night, after everything had ended and people had gone back inside, I heard a knock on my door. I opened it and saw him standing there with a friendly smile. He said he’d like to follow me to work the next day since we were heading the same direction.

I said sure, no problem

The next morning, I came out and saw four people standing there. Him… and three others. Two guys and one lady.

He quickly explained that they were his colleagues and begged me to help carry them too

The lady alone looked like two people combined. Well, I just nodded and smiled. What else could I do? I told them to enter.

That evening, when I closed from work and drove out of the office gate, I saw the same four of them standing there, waving at me and smiling like we were friends

I just stopped and picked them again.

The next morning, I came out of my house and saw the four of them again

Ahh!
Do you people sleep here?

They laughed and said they came early so they won’t miss me.

I looked at my neighbor. He avoided my eyes at first, then gave me one small sheepish smile

I carried them again

For one month I carried this people every morning and evening

Then one day, my car shock absorber got bad. The car started giving me issues, so I parked it and took it to the mechanic.

That evening, my neighbor saw me outside and asked about the car. I told him what happened. He just shook his head and said, “Ah, car wahala.”

I said, “Yes o,” and went inside.

The next morning, I came out and stood by the road waiting for a bike to take me to the bus stop. As I was there, I saw my neighbor enter a car. It was an Uber.

He saw me. He waved.
I waved back.

And that was it.

He didn’t ask me if I wanted to join him or let’s go together, he just sat down at the back like a big man and they drove off

For the entire week my car was at the mechanic, I didn’t see those his colleagues. Not once.

The day my car finally came back, he saw me driving in and came to greet me like nothing happened. “Ah, it’s fixed now? Thank God o!” He even congratulated me.

The next morning, I came out… and there they were. The four of them, standing beside my car… Complete squad!

They greeted me, “Good morning, boss!”

Boss ke?

I smiled calmly, opened my car door, entered, and locked it.

They came and pulled the handle.

Nothing.

My neighbor knocked on the window. I wound it down small, just enough to hear him

He said, “We’re ready.”

I said, “SET”

He laughed, thinking I was joking.

I shouted, “GO!!!”

Then I started the engine and drove off.

The confusion on his face… beautiful.

In my side mirror, I saw all four of them standing there, looking like village witches and wizard WhatsApp group

Was I wrong? Do you think they deserved it?

The End

People are interesting. So within the one month period when you carried them, they never offered to fuel your car? I know that kind too well, have had my fair share with them. That guy has no shame. You ask for a ride and then bring a whole clan. Smh.

CultureRe: Eating At Funerals Is Wrong by Beey(f): 12:59am On May 13
dermmy:
All these celebration of life whatever na nonsense. A funeral should be a place of solemnity a place where people should think about the vanity of life and the essence of living life with purpose and doing good deeds. It doesn't matter how old the deceased is even if he is 500 years it does not call for merriment. This is why I love the Muslims they don't have time for all these nonsense.
We should celebrate people when they are alive. After death, they don’t see all the show & glamour all done in the name of celebration.
CultureRe: Eating At Funerals Is Wrong by Beey(f): 12:57am On May 13
DanOkonkwo:
This is my opinion regarding this matter, going to eat at funerals is not appropriate. A place of funeral is not a place of celebration or feasting but a place of solemnity but unfortunately some persons or most cultures has made it a must that food of assorted kinds must be prepared and people MUST eat.
I think that this part of our culture must be looked into, because I cannot imagine a family that is struggling to make ends meet still mandated to go through hell to provide a big burial where food must be cooked and served, just to bury a loved one.
There are even some that even go about in the community looking for funerals ceremony just to find where to eat and even go with extra.
Well if a man has the money to spend lavishly or call the community to feast in a burial, it's up to him but this should not be a rule.

What do you think?
Am a Kenyan from the central region of the country. Other tribes in Kenya have their own cultural practices which include eating and overnight home stay for the deceased.
When people from my tribe attend funerals in that region, they are usually hit by culture shock. In my tribe, those coming to mourn with you actually bring food and drinks to ease the family’s burden. We usually pick the body of the deceased from the morgue on the day of burial. We don’t do overnight stay. We do cook on the day of the funeral, but it’s a communal affair. People raise funds to offset the funeral expenses, with meals included in that budget. It’s not usually anything extravagant except the family is wealthy and capable of adding extras.
Imagine young children & mother left behind by their breadwinner. Instead of supporting them financially, people will be going to eat the little that’s left. Very inconsiderate.

omikel:
Good day Nairalander,
I will be brief with my story of how I conquered one of the cats that have been terrorizing us for years in our compound. If you like, call it ANIMAL CRUELTY, but if you read to the end, you will know what I have endured for long.
On this beautiful but hot evening, I wanted to go have my shower at the tap outside with the hope to cool my body temperature.
I felt something moved fast towards one edge of the boys quarter, my instinct doesn't deceive me, IT IS ONE OF THOSE UNCULTURED CAT that used to make irritating noise while mating behind our fence. I wouldn't know if they usually come from different places to have their usual DO THE DO at our backyard. I took no offence for them doing that because nature can not be cheated. But the problem is the noise at the wee hour of the night when one is supposed to be deep in sleep.
They will make different kind of Moaning like human and at times cry like a toddler whose biscuit was snatched by his elderly one, I don't know if anyone has had the kind of experience I am trying to narrate here.
But one of them ran into the hands of an angry man who the current situation on ground has made more angrier, like the yoruba will say "Ajá tó yó, kìí bá aiyo seré"
Na so I retreived back to my room to pick up my self defense tool any day (a matchet).
I tip-toed back and lay still in the dark with my touch light on the left hand and my thumb on its switch.
Cats are very sensitive and can see in the dark like tomorrow no dey, but na luck help me kill am this day "Oluwa lo funmi pa* 😁😁😁
Immediately I felt some movement again, my thumb was the first action taker on the switch of my Torchlight, gboa! Light everywhere, the cat's eye self is another version of Torchlight on me. But I summoned courage, it is either you die today or you escape and never come back to this vicinity.
We entered battle, I pursued the 'were' to one end where where it believe is an hiding place but there is no escape route except through where I was standing with my Torchlight beaming at it and it was gazing at me also. Who will make the first move?
I tricked it into believing I am tired, within a twinkle of an eye, I blinked the light by tapping the switch pim pim the mad cat want to run out of its enclave na so I matchetted it like a criminal who is about to steal phone through the window.
But to be sincere, the thing get power, with that one hit, I thought it will be dead, rather it make one hunch back style of defense, and began to make some buzz sound with its mouth and all its claws were sharply released out, na so I woos am the second time before it succumb to weakness and finally third hit made it surrender to alumuntu.
WTF! You ate a 🐈? Bro you no well. How? It’s beyond me. That’s why I’d turn vegetarian if I stepped foot into Nigeria, not unless the animal is slaughtered in my presence. 😂.I love Naija people, you rock and are fun to hang around and also you Nigerians make good friends. However, I’ve seen too much on this site, to just eat any meat offered to me. What do you mean you ate a cat? Good grief!! Indeed old age is not a prerequisite for one to see wonders. 😳

She did NOT marry him for money or the ₦10 million offer.

"It was God's will... He sent me and I have fulfilled it," she declares, insisting the marriage is pure divine instruction.

Meanwhile, Aboy sits quietly, looking completely disengaged, lost, and — as many online are saying — like he has "lost his spark" and is no longer happy.

This controversial OPM marriage has sparked massive debate across Nigeria: Is it God's plan or exploitation? Care or abuse?

A 38-year-old woman from Uruala, Ideato North LGA in Imo State, Juliet Igwe, has been arrested for brutally torturing her 5-year-old house help, Onyinyechi.

She allegedly:
- Poured boiling water on the little girl’s hands, peeling off the skin from her fingers
- Used an open candle flame to burn the child’s private parts (genitals)
- Inflicted multiple burns and injuries on her body

The suspect, who has three children of her own, claimed the child stole food. She was paraded by the Imo State Police and later remanded in prison on charges of attempted murder and grievous harm.

This is child abuse at its worst. A 5-year-old should never be working as a domestic help.

Justice must be served — no excuses, no leniency.
WTF!! What do you mean by 5 year old house help? That’s the age of a kindergarten kid. Where did she get the baby for a house help? This is proper child abuse.
