I know many might take me up on this. I have come to find ( with some study and some observation), that the psychological make up of a man is such that he wants to be needed sort of like some 'security' a force always to the rescue. On the other hand, the woman likes to be cherished and adored and at times bordering on pampered. Thus a man will find it difficult to live a role in which the woman is totally independent on him, so the more a woman craves independence, the more difficult it is for the man to be in relationship with such. Call it complex or whatever its a build-up there from birth. If you doubt, consider how ladies (many) times like doors opened for them, like to have a man around to help carry that bag from the top of the wardrobe, and the joy of a man when he picks the bill for his woman, turn this around and there is wahala. You ca't blame guys from running away from such relationships as described, most men don't want to hear a woman tell him how she picks up the bills in the middle of an argument, and beleive me, most women would do that. ( Why am I always giving such long speeches?) |
Age Beeka is just amazing, I did not know I had so many co-fans, I have just been finding it difficult to get his album. He is also simply breathe taking on stage, I recently missed a show of his, and got to see the show on TV I regretted so badly that I was not a part of. I also learnt he went overseas to polish his music. Great things are happening from upland Nigeria, and these Jos and Abuja boys are showing that good music does not have to come out of Lagos alone. |
Ol girl, while I understand your plight, I think life gives to us what we desire, if we desire hard enough and know it well enough. The fact that you have not met a good Nigerian/African guy does not mean they are born yet or that there aren't any, it just probably means you have not "walked or worked" in the means of the good ones. I am sure it is just a matter of time before you find him, if you really want it. I know a few guys who I can vouch for, that tells me the good ones are still out there ( Don't know about them in the US O !) |
Alheri, please do the needful, the way you sounded, its as if you know it yourself that things are not the same. I agree with Seun that there is fire on the Mountain O ! I think you should evaluate and talk to your husband. If there are ways in which he has changed also, tell him, try and know what things he misses in you, now that you are married, and make out time and effort to rekindle. It is important. Marriage is a lifelong thing, there is the need for constant renewal so it does not get stale. |
Jummy, I did not say that men generally can't keep their "thing" in their trousers, I only said some men. Don't forget I am also a man. I agree though, that it is irresponsible on both sides. |
Players or playas, I think we generally refer to a player (playa) in this context as one who considers women a prowess. They could come in any form quiet or outgoing. the quiet ones are the worst cause they don't show it. The outgoing ones are better because they at least show and look it. Mean while there are also female playas!! Not everyone is a playa but of course everyone is a player in this drama called life. |
hot-angel, glad you don't need an answer, but I have to give this. NITEL staff had better watched their backs, there definitely will be some laying off, the extent is what no one can determine now, NITEL in a new dispensation will not need as many unskilled labour as obtains in NITEL. NITEL staff are largely unskilled, and there are too many redundant and underutilzed staff. Obong, we were told that as at three or so years ago NITEL had 450,000 lines that number has reduced to 250,000 or there about now this is courtesy of deregulation and of course NITEL's mis management. If Nigerians can hook up and buy why not, this companies are being badly runned to day because they are seen as no man,s property. The management has no stake besides their salaries in the company. If runned by people who have a stake in the business we surely will see improvement. The likes of Adenuga and Dangote( in the cement industry) have proven what Nigerians can do. And Globacom will be there as a second National carrier to balance the excesses whoever buys might have. |
The aggressive nature of the chinese in getting into Nigerian telco industry kind of worries me. The issue in privatising NITEL should be cash and pedigree. While these guys might have the cash, they do not have the pedigree. They are simply not operators, why has Ericsson, Siemens and Nokia not tried to buy in too, are they also not vendors and Ericsson and Siemens know NITEL well enough. As for foriegn investors coming in, it will be with Nigerians involved. And Obong, pleassssse, deregulation will further kill NITEL with its present structure. The best thing that could happen to the Nigerian economy is that NITEL be privatised and made effective. For example do you know NITEL has the cheapest sign in fee for their internet service? Do you know they have prepaid calling cards ? Do you know that NITEL has constatly been finding it difficult to pay staff salaries for a while now? Nitel as it is now is rather a drain on the Govt's purse, it should be put in a position to make profit ad serve its purpose and that is only by privatisation. |
The tax holiday given to the companies, was as a result of prevailing circumstances in the country, we all know the state of our power systems this and oter reasons means that more money will be invested in bringing in extra equipment ( as compared to other countries) and alot will be spent on generating power, I don't think its a bad idea to give this tax holiday to a virgin business (which was what it was ) to encourage investment. MTN made so much profit because they knew what it will take to make it here. |
Obong, I beg to disagree. Do we say that the investment of Japanese Honda as Acura in the US or Daimaler Chrysler, German owned and with a factory in the US means that the Americans are incalpable ? Don't forget that as far as telecommunications is concerned Globacom is playing its role and as shown us all what Nigerians can do. Besides, the work force in the result of the investment will be Nigerians who will receive training as a result of such arrangements and in turn put it back in the economy. I think Nigeria needs to embrace foriegn investment although regulated. The arrangement is also not an outright sale you know. |
My dear and I have a lot of petnames we call each other, sometimes baby, at times I call I Omotodun (sweet one) or omotochan , many times she just calls me by my "Oriki" (Yoruba pet names gven at birth) , mine literarily means " the one people beg to love" but of course she always points out that she wont beg. I am very traditional abi? |
The issue is this, taking the stats, of the 120 million Nigerians, many are in the aged (very aged bracket) that they dont need or even know how to use, there are also the children below use age, this is apart from the fact that within the use age there are some that can not afford it. Now, the 12million total we talk about now is also inclusive of operator marketing hypes, and many people have 2,3 or even 4 lines. The market is still open and unsaturated, but is it truly as unsaturated as we always make it out to be? |
diakim:What makes an advert is portraying a situation within human reason but above daily occurencies. Just like movies, a movie show the life of an average human will be boring, but the hypes in the highs and the lows gives it a rythm same thing with advert, why not talk about the royco advert, the Delta soap advert, where a navy guy send soaps to "refurbish" his babes face a few days before their date. So lets give to MTN, no advert is actually ever Nigerian or Briton or American. Besides some Nigerian folks are that romantic.mamba link=topic=50.msg464#msg464 date=1113756231:Why? The advert looks un-Nigerian. I want to agree with Mamba and others that no Nigerian girl is ever going to accept sunshine as a gift and be happy about it. We all know why. |
Ra:phew Ra Na you biko. Exactly my thinkin. Sunshine is a gift, its rising marks the beginning of a new day, every day has its splendid oppurtunities, so its a great gift to see the sun rise to give our lives a lift from the oblivion we all went int through the night. Jerry compared his girl to this gift and shared the view with her very romantic very creative. Lets forget that in this part of the world we are so accustomed to nature that we rarely treasure it ( which may be why some say its unrealistic), but it makes a point. Way to go MTN.............!!!!! |
delarontus:I quite disagree. M-tel is wholly owned by NITEL, so both companies will be sold together. What could happen is that the buyers will run the mobile subsidiary seperately as in the case of Telkom of SA which partly owns Vodacom. |
Quoting the press release, "The members of the new Consortium believe that the combination of Vodacom’s extensive expertise in African Telecommunications markets and Virgin Group’s proven skills in successfully operating in highly competitive markets, will prove to be a very attractive proposition for V-Mobile shareholders, staff and customers, and will ensure that V-Mobile becomes a far stronger company. " I think we should not see things as though we are being dribbled, the consumer will be the better for it, while the stakeholders want a cash in, this their 'marriage' will further expand the scope of the new company that will emerge. Guys these are boardroom intrigues. I am particularly excited at the fact that these guys are almost climb over each other to invest in Nigeria, our own Nigeria |
Virgin group has antecedents of turning markets around and driving down prices, I think that is one thing we need in the telecoms industry in Nigeria. as fo Seun's fears, I think our business men have proved their worth and they can't be thrown aside by any Richard. Glo gave MTN a run for their money despite being whole owned by a Nigerian from scratch, the competition might even be healthy. Besides the market is large enough. As for M-tel, it is better privatised, and I thot Virgin was interested in buying Nitel and Mtel. |
GSM in Nigeria The right of excusivity given to current operators expires in January 2006, do you think the Nigerian market is saturated? Would it make business sense for anyone to vie for a new licence? |
Seun:Seun you are not totally right on that sometimes say hi to a girl, get her number and she gets yours the next thing will be one or two texts at best a call and then "please send me 750 recharge" Ironic most of them are on the 750 network. I know because I have had such from girls I don't even have plans of seeing again. I have a metjod of shoving them off anyways, only my baby deserves it, come to think of it she rarely even asks |
sage:The sage himself, where did you get those stats from ? A distant relationship works if both parties have been to gether for a while and get to really know each other, then the cyber and tele flows can truly flow, how can you tell someone how you feel about them when you say it and for once ( or a few times) you cant get to look into their eyes and read their expressions and they seee yours expressions are the vehicle on which emotions are carried, words can very easily be vain.... |
love4ever:Love4ever you sabi well o!!! But don't you guys think that anyone can be anything across the air the metals the optic fibers, and all the things that make up the net or even the telephone system, but then they could be other things in flesh. Distant relationships are workable but foundation has to first be built and that is not cyberly (permit me), I am in one, I can tell. |
allen ,EFCC can not do anything in this issue, the main is that tell us your tricks and your styles so that we ladies will know how to avoid you peopple. Mosiate you funny o !!! make butcher show cow trick. You don hear that before? I dont mean to offend ladies by this expression, but coming to think about it a girl who falls for a player's tricks acts like one (a cow). They are simple, just lies, a right thinking lady should just look and look hard, not fall for superficial things. However the one way to not be played ladies is avoid sex before marriage, this is coming from a brother, if you fall you are on your own o!!! |
The reports of the experts, while not conclusive, leaves much to be desired. We are in a country that is truly volatile. While I don't believe the citizens of this country have the stomach for an all out war, the skirmishes that we have experienced many times have always led to destruction of life. We also know that such skirmishes have been brought about by a few individuals who use such situations to score politcal are economic goals. Such people can also now capitalise on such reports and make their followers go on rampage. I am sure if any other country generates a report like that on the US they would have received very sharp reactions. We should remind the experts of the days of segregation in the US. Did it lead to rebellions? Nigeria is a country that is diverse containing subsets that are further diverse. The South of Nigeria has uncountable number of tribes. Some of them don't trust the igbos one bit - will they be willing to go with them? What is presently considered Northern Nigeria includes the North central which has Tivs, Jukuns and other minorities. What will be their fate under the major Hausa tribes? The country is better as one and a break out will be disastrous. To that extent the experts might be a bit correct. |
Guys leave Seun; no one can be an authority in everything. He has given a 'politcal 'answer to the several calls. U na wan arrange babe for am??!!! ("do you want to arrange a girlfriend for him?") |
I will like to create another school of thot which says " double dating is no issue". Commitment only goes with marriage. The only thing is the need to be as truthful and fair as possible to both parties (if you can), if not you will be guilty of a crime, not of double dating but of "419ing" |
Date a married man? I think that is the height of irresponsiblity on the part of any female! Agreed, some men can't keep their thing in their trousers, but does any intelligent, right thinking lady have to be the WC into which they pour their excess fluid? Or the machine upon which they realise their sexual urges? A lady with respect for herself will realise she should not be second fiddle or a play-thing for any man, no matter the reward. What goes around would definitely come around. |
