Hello All,

I am new here & I have followed up on the previous threads.
I'm in my mid 20s and have a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from a Federal University. I also have 1 year+ of experience in working in an Agro-processing factory as a Production Operator. Mech. Eng as an occupation appears to be an obvious choice for skills assessment, but I understand one can stand a better chance of getting invitation using other related (lower skilled) occupations. Considering my profile, please what occupations and perhaps visa types should I consider at this stage. Thank you

It is up to you to look through the occupation list to find out which one aligns with your experience and skills. However, with the little info you have provided, it is better for you to remain in mechanical engineering. Automotive technician would have been a good idea if you had the experience.

If you aim for supreme points in English, you canat least get a 491 invitation.

Goodluck.

Hello gurus,

Please forgive my ignorance.
When an accessing body deducts 4 years from a 7 years experience, does this mean you have to fill 3 years in your skills calculator or the deduction is just for the skills assessment? Make person no make mistake chop ban

To play it safe, claim only 3 years. If you were onshore and will to fight the battle, claim the 7 years provided your occupation doesn't require intership or qualifying year to work.

In addition to what Tunlex01 said, before you set out to assess for an occupation, ensure that the occupation is on 189 list or is being nominated by some states. That it is on the state lists does not mean it is available for nomination. You have to check the occupations available in each state.

Thanks for this quick response...

I would have love that my wife should apply because she will earn more point on age and being a grad from OAU but most schools she worked for is not standard and the bank statement might be the issue even though we can still work out payslip for her because they re paid mostly cash ....

And do you feel anyone going between us should write IELTS exam?

Do you still feel my wife should apply instead of me pls?

Your wife has a higher chance of quick invitation compared to you. She should be the primary applicant.

You can get payslip, pencom statement and/or tax document.

lol. Bad guy 😂. Anyway, let me just get the license from Japan first. Shebi I can be applying for forklift role in Australia with it?

You will need the high risk licence in Australia to drive a forklift. However, the training there will introduce you to it and build your confidence. It is not difficult.

Why do you consider forklifting a high risk work?

The government classified it as high risk because its accident can cause serious injury and/or death.

Please these form 80, can we fill and scan all, or just in-text the pdf forms, then sign and scan only the last page? I don't want to hear stories that touch grin, so I'm thinking of scanning all pages, but the MB size will be too much. undecided

You can sign and scan only the pages requiring signature and then merge them.

@Bellong, thank you for your swift response, I will start the assessment once I'm done with my IELTS Exams, secondly the banking statements for the Assessment do they need all duration or only a few months. On TRA Website, Payslip is stated specifically for 3 Months but the Bank statement was not stated.

Few months should suffice. 3 months each year max.

There are 3 guys that have been on my mind for years since I deactivated my old moniker, because I lost touch with them.

One goes by the name Tugga. Not too sure it's his first name or surname . He's a medical doctor and I think from the middle belt. He has a Bible name of one of the prophets also. The other had the moniker name Bellong. The last is a pastor from the southwest who is a twin.
If you're any of them please send me a mail. I'd like to hear from you.

Happy belated birthday to Bodydiialect. She stood with me then, with very few others.

I can't forget them as long as I breathe and nothing would take away my love for them, even if they later turn on me.

God bless.

Welcome back brother.

Hello guys. I want to ask about chances of getting work as a forklift driver in Australia. I currently school in Tokyo and I just enrolled in a forklift driving institute and will get the licence at the end.

There are plenty work for forklift drivers. It is usually a 2-3 days training in Australia to get the high risk work licence.

Na alignment remain.

If you condemn someone and the person managed to win by hook or crook, no bi to greet him 'well done, we see your hand'?

Until he loses the case in court (if he does), I think it would be wisdom to align, keep mute or condemn on a neutral ground.

Happy new years ooo. Na you be this...

Thanks for your response @bellong. I did Master of telecommunication engineering in Australia, and I have gotten a positive assessment with EA for Telecom Engineer through it. Also, I have already done an expression of interest in that skill in some states in Australia without claiming points for work experience because of some complexities involved from my employers in Nigeria. But I changed my career during COVID-19 and have been working as DevOps/Cloud Engineer for over a year. I want to rely on getting assessment from ACS and, if possible, get points for cloud/DevOps skills too. Firstly, I want to know the right ANZSCO role to apply for as a cloud/DevOps engineer is not specified explicitly on the list. Secondly, I want to know if I can do the Post Australian Study pathway as my degree is closely related to IT.

Thanks for always helping

@Alphadoor, can you please help out.

Thanks for your response @bellong. I want someone that has gone through this route for more advice. I would not mind if you can refer me to someone that can help or even if anybody on this platform can help. I need this urgently. Please help in any way you can.

Can you explain what you need advice about. It will make it easier for referral.

To begin with, what is your qualification? How many years of experience do you have in your proposed occupation and any previous experience in any occupation.

Please how can a spouse add points to the main applicant? I graduated as a lawyer years back in Nigeria, and I only practice for the NYSC one year program in Lagos ministry of justice in their citizens mediation centre where we do more of legal mediation as a means of settlement. Can the one year fly for credential assessment in order to boost hubby’s point? I have reading 7.5, listening 8.5, writing 7, speaking 7.5 in my ielts and I’m 32 years.

As previously advised up there, he can choose any civil engineering technician related occupation that aligns with his current skills. He can even assess as a bricklayer with his qualification if he has the experience.
He cannot meet the qualification requirement for skill level 1 occupations. Outside that, he has variety of options.

For you, you cannot give him points with skills assessment except in English test. This is because the assessment for legal profession is completely different just like medicine. You must first be called to the bar in any state in Australia before you get a positive assessment.

Thank you so much @bellong, @tunlex01 and other experts in this forum, for always helping. Please, I will appreciate guidance from anyone that has gone through this route (i.e. ACS assessment after changing career, especially to DevOps/Cloud Engineer). I am thinking of choosing analyst programmer as the option in ANZSCO Code. Please help in any way you can or refer me to anyone that can.

I am not an ICT person so might not be able to provide specific assistance except general counsel.

What exactly do you need?

ICT Support Technician is not a Skill level occupation so you are covered. Your degree might be assessed to be AQF associate degree equivalent but it will still meet the qualification requirement for the occupation.

Yes, you stand a chance.

Yes please

Yes, you can get a job that can offer temporary skills shortage visa. Getting such job is dependent on your skills and the ability to sell yourself.

If you are a geotechnical engineer, you can get one easily. There are other occupations like that in very high demand.

@bellong please advise..I'm currently working as a Desktop Support Engineer with 5 years of experience and Diploma in IT, Diploma in hardware and networking with 3 Microsoft Certifications.
Should I choose ACS (ict support engineer)or TRA (custom support officer)for my assessment. My role fit both positions. I'm applying for 491 or 190 visa Sub class. I'm preparing for my IELTS soon(April/May)
Age 32
Exp 5 years
Qaul: 2 Diplomas and Vendor Certifications (Azure Admin, Security Analyst and Microsoft 365 Administrator). I have ComPTIA A+ & N+(expired)
English 10/20
Been living in South Africa for the past 6 years
Spouse: Single
Working with SA work Permit

Firstly, you need to check the skill level of the occupation. I think ICT support engineer is a level 1 occupation requiring a bachelor degree. ACS does do experience in lieu which will make you lose experience points.

ICT support requires a diploma or so. In addition, you have to check if the occupations are being nominated by any state.

Going by points you can gain, I will suggest the support officer with TRA.

If there is a state nominating the occupation when you are ready, you can have a fair go.

Hello, how about getting a job from Nigeria in Australia and the firm is willing to assist in the process of you getting there. How does it go?

Your question is not clear. Are you asking if it is possible to get a job from Nigeria and be sponsored for the visa?

University of Ilorin

Your qualification will likely be assessed as an associate bachelor degree. Chemistry technician is the best bet. The one year will be used as a qualifying experience by VETASSES.

Thank God I didn't listen to this advise sha grin

This behaviour is why people sometimes do not respond to questions.

You asked a question and he gave you an answer based on experience and understanding of the migration act. Even if it didn't go as you envisaged, it shouldn't get to the point of spiting him. It isn't appropriate.

Please do you advise me to use B.Eng Electrical engineering obtained in 2006 from Unizik but started working in power sector in 2013 or use M Eng Power and Machine Engineering gotten in 2016 from Uniben for my assessment.

Prior to 2013 I worked in Telecom industry for 5yrs but it's different Anzsco code with Electrical Engineer I'm going for

What's the implication on points if I use:

1. B.Eng. 2006, Electrical experience 2013- 2023 ie 10years

2. M.Eng 2016, will my 2013 - date experience count or Experience starts counting from the date I obtained the M.Eng ie 2016- 2023 Ie 7years.

Which of these two should I stick to for maximum point and easy assessment.

Why I wanted option 2 is that my Master's thesis will count in my CDR for EA assessment

You can use either or both. Engineer Australia will still award you the full points if they judge your experience to meet ANZSCO requirements. The Bachelor degree is the minimum qualification required for the occupation. EA is more reasonable than VETASSES.
