Nigeria News today & Breaking news | Read Naij.com 24/7 / 2 days ago

- 1.7 million candidates are expected to register for the 2017 UTME

- JAMB has pledged to make sure the examination centres are increased

- Only 1,561,443 candidates sat for the UTME in 2016

Prof. Ishaq Oloyede

According to official figures, about 1.7 million candidates are expected to sit for the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

The Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Ishaq Oloyede while speaking to journalists at the Information and Communication Technology Retreat on Tuesday, February 14 in Abeokuta, Ogun state revealed some facts.

According to the registrar, the board is planning to increase its Computer Based Testing (CBT) Centres in order to the make examination exercise far better.

Speaking on the number of candidates, he said: “We are expecting 1.7 million candidates to sit for JAMB this year and we want to make sure we satisfy them within a week or thereabout.’’

Mr Oloyede also said while he could not guarantee a hitch-free examination, the innovations being put in place “will send some illegal operators, who are defrauding candidates in the past, out of business.’’

His words: “Frankly, I cannot promise a hitch-free examination because we are testing certain things.

“We are changing certain things; we want to question the status quo and we expect a fight back by interests that will be trampled upon."

Speaking on the state of the board, he said: “We are going to be as flexible as humanly possible; we are not promising hitch free examination."

The registrar also said that the major objective of the retreat was for stakeholders to critique the board’s processes, “because we will not want to continue in the wrong direction."

On expansion, he said the body plans to create new ICT facilities, and that prospective candidates, scholars, institutions and civil society groups were brought together to critique it.

He explained: “This is to enable us harvest good ideas that can improve what we are doing.’’

Mr. Oloyede also said that JAMB would soon begin the sale of forms for the 2017 UTME, adding that the board was also working on the possibility of conducting a mock examination.

Meanwhile, JAMB has warned prospective candidates, parents and guardians to dismiss reports that it had started the sale of the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

CrimeTwo Thieves Caught In The Act by belovedbest(op): 1:22am On Sep 17, 2015
Two thieves that have been terrorising the people of Ebrumede in Effurun, Delta State were caught and beat to stupor before being rescued by the men of Ebrumede Police station. They have traced a lonely Woman as she drove into her compound at about 8pm, but unknown to the thieves that some neighbours staying opposite the house have gone to call guys from a nearby drinking joint. One of them was identified as a regular customer that has stolen cars and other valuables from the people in the area. Report has it that he has once being arrested and released after serving his time at Okere Prison.

I doubt if there is a better name to call those bunch of players than being ridiculous. They've lost a golden chance, especially the confused strikers running into themselves always.

It is a matter of time before the wish of the moderator comes to pass. I seriously wonder how a public servant of her status would like to be a willling tool in the hands of our inconsistent politician, she will soon find herself lonely in "an issle of Pathmos" where she will learn the bitter lesson. Her over-zealiousness will soon land her somewhere. DSS that should be a silent security operator is now louder than "a nite of a thousand laff". Fingers crossed!

[quote author=dontjealousme][b]dontjealousme: Why should the rascal Aregbesola announce himself winner in an on going election? Causing voters to either vote for him or give up and return home. APC is a sick party. The election will be settled in court.

pdp was leading then APC started announcing themselves as winner of the election still in process. Can u imagine.

That is fraud.
IS THIS A JOKE? So, INEC is also now an APC member? Why is it difficult for Nigerians to reason straight. PDP was leading where? Or were you monitoring the election from a billaterally inverted position?

Thank God for Glo at the advent of GSM in Nigeria, an average Nigerian wouLd not have been able to use phone, but things have long changed as Glo now offers one of the most expensive tarrif if not the most with 50k/s. Could it be the package I am on or that is just how it is? Could there be a cheaper package, I still prefer it to MTN. Can someone help with info on a better plan?

It shall come to pass! I have always believed you. I'm not saying or expecting Keshi to fail but somehow someday, it will happen. Keshi must have picked one or two lesson(s) from Sia1's mistake especially with the so-called 'big boys'. Though I would have preferred the two coaching SE together-It's gonna be whao!

EducationRe: Private Or Public School. Which Is Better? by belovedbest(m): 9:24pm On Sep 18, 2013
The situation we've found ourseves in Nigeria is so pathetic; where no one may be able to cathegorically say either Public or Private schoo is better. I have taught in more than 5 different schools (from two states) and I can almost safely say Public school is better.........inspite of their many shortcomings. My parameters:
Private schools majorly operate as a business ventures where the sole aim is to better the lot of the proprietor(even at the expense of parents, studends and ofcourse the major victims-Teachers)
Hardly do they have uptodate facilities, ranging from sport field and equipments, well stocked Laboratory/Library etc(Govt may stock its schools once in a long while but that serves generation.
Workload per teacher is terriffic in private school unlike in Public where teacher might not have more than 5periods per week.
Specialisation/professionalism is more visible in public schools than private for example A math teacher, teaches chemistry, physics, even futher Maths and yet still a labour teacher.
Welfare packages and incentives.
Workforce stability(I hope you understand)
There are more qualified teachers in public schools.
Though private schools are equally in grades but overall Public to me is better!
Performance in National(Cowbell, Awokoya etc) competitions is a better yardstick. How many private schools have ever won any of these awrds? I can't remember one.
Though, I may also conclude that private schools do well in Primary sections but Secondary Education is too complex for most of the private schools.

Christianity EtcRe: Can God Lead You To Someone You Don't Love In Marriage? by belovedbest(m): 4:39pm On Jun 10, 2013
YES! It's like saying can God ask you to do what's not convenient. My wife never like not to talk of love when we 1st met, simply because she didn't know me, but she later did after almost 2 years. I equally struggled with the idea of marrying her but we have no regret for our decision till date(4yrs+). What matters is patience & understanding from the other party.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Do You Go To Church? by belovedbest(m): 4:30pm On Jun 10, 2013
I go to church;
1. Because it's a command 'forsake not the assembly of the brethren'
2. I go to sevice my life & destiny as word connotes 'Sunday Service'.
Just as we take cars to Mechanic workshop for better efficiency, so I takes my life to the One who know how I was formed.
3. To update my life.
4. To constantly scan, quarantine, shield my life and also to delete all forms of Viruse contracted during the week. abbl
