Trump bragged about renegotiating the costs of two Air force One plane. Initial estimate was $5.3 but Trump negotiated with Boeing president to $3.9B. As usual he bragged about it.

The airframe had been built for a Russia airline company that had gone bankrupt. Boeing wasn't really happy saying the deal cost them $2.5B loss in the process
In retrospect I think Boeing made sure Trump would never be the first POTUS to use it , delaying it to 2024. When he won, they pushed delivery to around 2035. So I think that's just politics because the most demanding part of a plane is the airframe. In any case the retrofitting is done by their contractor.

The current gift is being retrofitted by the same contractor ,scheduled to take 2 years. (USAF took 2 years to salvage 2 f35 jets that had crashed and partly burnt to the ground , a company like Boeing should obviously take less time with a plane that probably needed only finishing touches as a commerical liner.
Some.posts on X have claimed that Biden admin had initiated offers to buy the same plane,this has not been confirmed or denied. I doubt that Qatar just offered the plane out of thin air.
According to Grok,if the gift actually becomes operational it would be decommissioned first removing any security additions ,under control of DOD and NARA .Trump family would not use it all. It would however be under the presidential museum ,which can fundraise from it And if its still capable of flying DoD and NARA would strictly supervise it. Nevertheless it would be a good bragging right to the Trump presidential library. ( The settlements from his defamation suits eg Facebook and ABC are being channeled to his library)

My opinion.Why is Qatar gifting him. Qatar has been hosting Hamas leades including their billinaire head blown up in Tehran, they have funded Hamas to the tunes of billions. They built a high end residential estate in Gaza which IDF flattened ,it was hosting the Hamas top dogs complete with an "undergroud metropolis". With the gift,I am of the opinion that Trump ideas on Palestine and Israel has tacitly changed. There is no way Qatar gifts him without something in return, this has do with Israel and the Abraham accords.The position of Saudi and Qatar is that a two state solution for Palestinians must be on the table if they are to sign in ..

I've stated before ,the gift doesn't look good for Trump.

Trump is very unpredictable. I am sure they did not say take this plane and give us this or do that. But, their expectations are there. The optics of receiving a plane from Qatar just don't look good.

Their concern is the luxury jet gift , which is ironical because Boeing can't take a newer airframe,retrofit it with security ,comms, chaffs and flares, boardrooms etc for 8 years counting. The gift will be retrofitted to air force one class in less than 2 years.
Boeing last built the 747 airframe in 2022, a freighter cargo plane .
