AT last, the highly publicized unveiling of Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles’ coach will take place on Tuesday, the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has said. The unveiling ceremony earlier fixed for last Friday in Abuja failed to materialize, prompting some Nigerians to insinuate that the NFF is holding out May 29 for President Goodluck Jonathan to hand over government before announcing a coach of their choice, instead of Keshi. But the NFF boss, who spoke with The Guardian on phone from London yesterday, declared that the unveiling ceremony would hold on Tuesday. “We are unveiling Keshi as Super Eagles coach on Tuesday unfailingly. Take me for my word. It must take place on Tuesday,” Pinnick told The Guardian. The NFF Secretary General, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, had told Nigerians categorically early last week that the new Eagles coach would emerge on Friday. But it never came to pass. In fact, some journalists who thronged the NFF office in Abuja on Friday in anticipation of the unveiling ceremony, left angrily with a feeling that Nigerians had been taken for a ride by the NFF. But Pinnick said that the NFF does not have any hidden agenda concerning the unveiling of Keshi as Super Eagles coach. However, the NFF boss may not be on ground for Keshi’s unveiling ceremony on Tuesday in Abuja. He revealed yesterday that he would meet with officials of a kit manufacturing company in London on Thursday. Stephen Keshi, 53, a former captain and coach of the Super Eagles, is expected to sign a two- year contract with the NFF. His first assignment will be the qualifying campaign for the 2017 AFCON in June against Chad in Abuja. However, some Nigerians have vehemently kicked against the idea of bringing back Keshi, after failing to qualify Nigeria for the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea. Rather Yemen and U.S government were in constantl talk to know the situation at hand. Now everything is gradually returning to normal. How are you even sure that the want to come back? Have you seen or heard them say that the want to come back? |

[b] The Federal Government is making arrangements to evacuate Nigerians from conflict- torn Yemen , the NAN reports. A source in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told NAN in Abuja on Friday that no fewer than 46 Nigerians had already been identified in Yemen . The source, who preferred anonymity , said the Nigerian government had been in constant touch with the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia for the implementation of the plan . According to the source , the delay in the evacuation was because Nigeria did not have a mission in Yemen . “ Nigeria is evacuating its citizens in Yemen and a list of Nigerians in the country has already been compiled. “ The first list has no fewer than 46 Nigerians identified to be resident in the country . Already, the Nigerian Mission in Saudi Arabia is coordinating the evacuation . “ Nigeria does not have a Mission in Yemen but Nigeria’s mission in Saudi Arabia is coordinating the evacuation , ” the source said. The source said Nigeria was committed to safeguarding the lives of its citizens wherever they are in the world . NAN reports that governments of several countries including Germany, France, Russia, India, Egypt and Somalia have sent ships to transport their citizens home from Yemen . However, the US has said there were no immediate plans to evacuate its citizens from Yemen . The US State Department ’s website states : “ There are no plans for a US government - coordinated evacuation of U. S . citizens at this time. “ We encourage all US citizens to shelter in a secure location until they are able to depart safely. ” In mid- February , the US government closed its embassies in Yemen and evacuated its personnel. Last month, all Yemen ’ s airports shut down operations amidst heavy fighting , making it nearly impossible to leave the Gulf state by air . Since March , a Saudi- led coalition has been launching airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen as part of the campaign to restore the government of fleeing Abd - Rabbu Hadi.
