You are correct about rip off merchants. They are many and all over the place.
Infact, it wont be an exageration to state that one can build a second home easily with all the wastage and cheating incurred building one house

PropertiesRe: Cost Of Fencing In 2010! by beninman1(m): 8:20am On Aug 09, 2010
As a very rough guide, at least 1 million cos i know someone who spent 500K on one side of fence. plot was 658sq m. 500K was spent on one of the long sides - raft inclusive; blinding plus 2 rows of raft.
Hope this helps.
PropertiesRe: Pvc Ceilings by beninman1(m): 9:52pm On Aug 07, 2010
Well, for the type you can see in the pic, it cost about 350K for materials and labour it covered the entire ceiling of the top floor of a house consisting of 4 flats - 3 bedroom per flat.
Not sure what the square metres area was but i guess if you picture a block of 4 flats with 3 bedrooms per flat and consider the ceiling area for top floor, you might be able to relate it to you bungalow
PropertiesRe: Cost Of Barb Wire For Fence by beninman1(op): 11:39am On Aug 06, 2010
Does anyone have any ideas as to the pricing and costing of barb wire for fence security.
I am referring to the barb wire rolled on top of normal block fence secured with angle bars which have been fixed into the top of fence.

Plot is a standard plot in Sango tedo area (Lekki express). 18m by 35m (approx)
BusinessRe: Ebay In Nigeria by beninman1(m): 11:34am On Aug 06, 2010
It would be difficult to accomplish something like ebay in Nigeria for the obvious security reasons.
e.g. Despite the constant investment into online security by ebay dot com, we still have tons of episodes of fraud, theft etc.
People create bogus ebay and paypal accounts, list items for sale which are non existent and simply varnish into the thin air.
To curb this, ebay and paypal Uk now carry out electoral roll validation to confirm new members addresses and would sometimes ask for copies of photo id and utility bill to be sent through. The purpose of this is to identify you and trace you in the event that you act dishonestly.
The biggest problem with a 9ja version would be how to validate and track people down. The site would need to build trust so as to encourage more buyers and users to the site. This is what paypal and ebay have achieved by offering a buyer's protection in the event of item not received.
I am not being negative cos you can have an ebay equivalent in 9ja but whether it would be popular and secure remains a doubt.

It is PVC ceiling tiles. if you look closely, you can see the electrical wiring popping out ready to receive ceiling light fitting
PropertiesRe: Pvc Ceilings by beninman1(m): 10:17am On Aug 03, 2010
See picture of what PVC tiles look like.
They come in different colours but this one seems okay due to its wooden effect colour in my opinion

Well, as it stands no one can ascertain for definite if this is Lekki or not.
Hence i suggest we stop running the place down cos we do not have irrefutable evidence to back up these pics.
For all i know, this may well be Benin city, the town of my birth (no joke) cos flood can happen anywhere if there is an absence of good
physical planning.
A friend of mine lives off Uselu-Lagos Road in Benin back in the days and his home is prone to constant flooding cos of absence of good drainage .
My point is - flood can happen anywhere. Let's us stop bashing Lekki non stop.
I agree with expert with rgds to his suspicion on the time stamp on pics. It doesn't stack up.
I wouldnt be surprised if it comes to light that these picture email has been in circulation for sometime
PropertiesRe: Still Thinking Of Living At Lekki? Check Out Photos. Man Vs Nature by beninman1(m): 9:01am On Jul 10, 2010
aasog:
This isnt a result of location: But simply put: poor planning.

The house is probably built with low DPC (Damp Proof Course). Which is why so much water got it.

Secondly, most of the streets in Ajah, and Lekki are yet to have good drainage systems such as canal, gutters, etc, its still a fresh virgin locale.

And thirdly, the engineer and the owner obviously didnt know this is what they would be dealing with and didnt look for a way to maneuver unneeded water out of the compound. All this is easy, if properly planned for.
The Chinese are building a multi-billion dollars refinery around Lekki. If nature cant be tamed, those guys wont chose Lekki as their location.
Suggestion for all: dont economize when building close to the sea or water lodged. It could render your project useless, such as this one.
I completely agree with this comment. The DPC is very low hence why it is flooded. It is the consequence of porr planning

SportsRe: How I Stopped Messi –enyeama by beninman1(m): 5:03pm On Jun 14, 2010
Just seen in today's Daily Mirror (UK) that Messi praised Vincent for keeping him at bay with six fine saves while speaking to Daily Mirror.
He said 'The keeper was phenomenal and i congratulate him. The important thing is that we created chances and we are perfectly happy'.
SportsRe: How I Stopped Messi –enyeama by beninman1(m): 1:16pm On Jun 14, 2010
Why can't he brag or celebrate. He had a good performance and is worthy of praise.
He saved us and did what Almunia of Arsenal couldnt do against Messi in the Champions League.
The goals Messi tried to score against Enyeama were similer to the goals he actually scored against Almunia.
Let's hope Enyeame keeps his focus and continues to shine ,
PoliticsRe: Benin Monarch, Traditionalists To Curse Criminals by beninman1(m): 8:21pm On Jun 08, 2010
I fully support the cursing concept cos it is for a good curse
i.e. to rid Benin of these kidnappers and evil doers.

Some people might say it is traditional bla bla bla or it wont work, but let us wait and see.

Time will tell.

Overall, i am pleased the Oba is greatly concerned with the problem that he wishes to do something about it.
At least, he isn't causing trouble or making a fool of himself like that someone from Akure, did i say Deji??

PropertiesProposed New Law In Lagos Prohibiting More Than 6 Months Rent In Advance? by beninman1(op): 10:23pm On Apr 27, 2010
Can anyone comment or confirm if it is correct that Lagos state Govt is about to enact a law that stipulates that no house owner should charge more than 6months rent in advance in the first instance and then afterwards monthly rent would be charge.
Was told the bill is presently at its final reading in the Lagos State House of Assembly.??

How can this be true and how feasible is this
SportsRe: Okocha: We Were Treated Like Kids by beninman1(m): 10:06pm On Apr 27, 2010
Okocha no doubt had a brilliant carreer. Am impressed. However, i find it cowardly that he failed to confront the issues he mention.
Surely, not right. There was no point suffering in silence and then having a poor outing at the WC.
Oliseh was right in all respect. Kudos to him
