CultureRe: Why Do We Spend So Much On Funerals? by beninman1(m): 10:12am On Jan 14, 2010
Not a problem to be lavish in a funeral but on one condition:
You did everything possible to give the deceased a lavish lifestyle when he/she was alive.
If not, then clearly it is the height of foolery and wastefulness.

I recall a particular episode in Benin City, Nigeria about 20 yrs ago.
The decseased was ignored by his children when he was alive. They never bothered to renovate his house or even provide him with aircondition. But alas, when he died, the so called children suddenly elected to 'tuuch up' the yard and guess one; fitted an a/c unit in the living room for lying in state.
Of course, they got all the 'bullets' and curses from well wishers who knew the family.
Some asked; how can your father enjoy this a/c or sudden luxury when he is dead.

It is fair to conclude that some of all this rubbish spending is done as a show off

PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Interviewed By BBC: He's Alive Afterall! by beninman1(m): 11:33am On Jan 12, 2010
maybe OBJ can help us with this one,
He can set up a public call like he did before Yar Adua was sworn in, ala, "Umaru, where are you? Are you dead?"
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Interviewed By BBC: He's Alive Afterall! by beninman1(m): 10:41am On Jan 12, 2010
Though i do not wish a fellow human dead, but unfortunately i am still not convinced that it was the voice of Yar adua.

I have actually played the interviewed for the 51th time and am still not convinced.

Even if it was his voice, then we have a major issue cos he sounded very frail and nowhere near a quarter or half recovery
PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Interviewed By BBC: He's Alive Afterall! by beninman1(m): 10:23am On Jan 12, 2010
Sadly, i agree with you. All this seems to be pointing to the end.

PoliticsRe: Yar'adua Interviewed By BBC: He's Alive Afterall! by beninman1(m): 10:13am On Jan 12, 2010
I played the audio recording on BBC site like 50 times and i have to say, the more i listen, the less convinced i am that it is the voice of Yar adua.

This voice sounds like a simulation. Someone is acting and trying to fool us.

If indeed, Yar Adua was ready to speak to the press, why not use NTA? Why BBC and why no video recording?

Also, why has he not encouraged the Senate to send representative to visit him in Hospital so they can see first hand.

All this is extremely shady

PoliticsRe: Bomber Had No Passport -- Was Smuggled Into Airplane (Eye Witness) by beninman1(m): 8:44pm On Dec 27, 2009
Yeah NCAA confirmed he checked in fine in Lagos and that all docs were in order. They claimed he only had a shoulder bag and had no check in bag.
They also claim his ticket for his entire journey was bought in Accra on 16th December and that it was paid in cash.
All these was revealed in a press conference by NCAA spokesman which was aired on AIT internation during their 7pm (UK time) news
PoliticsRe: Bomber Had No Passport -- Was Smuggled Into Airplane (Eye Witness) by beninman1(m): 8:10pm On Dec 27, 2009
Also, if he had no passport on him, how come authorities were quick to establish his true identity.
PoliticsRe: Bomber Had No Passport -- Was Smuggled Into Airplane (Eye Witness) by beninman1(m): 8:09pm On Dec 27, 2009
It is doubtful if he didnt need to present his passport in Amsterdam. It is only in rare instances if you were lucky enough to get what is normally called 'an onward boarding pass' from your origin (in this case Lagos) that you are allowed to board your connecting flight without passport check.
However, this system is archaic and i dont think it exist anymore due to security concern.
Last time i heard about an onward boarding pass was over 15 yrs ago
PoliticsRe: Real Pic Of Mutallab by beninman1(op): 4:19pm On Dec 27, 2009
Drama continues,
Guardian News have now withdrawn the picture earlier circulated on their front page and website today with the following statement:

APOlOGY: The photograph, which was widely circulated on international wire service, and which appeared on this page earlier (and is published on the front page of The Guardian today) is not that of Farouk Umar Abdul Mutallab, who was arrested on Christmas day for attempted terrorist act on a Northwest Airlines. The error is regretted and we apologise to the person (and his family), whose image was wrongly published. Editor

PoliticsRe: Real Pic Of Mutallab by beninman1(op): 11:19am On Dec 27, 2009
I have just confirmed that Guardian news got ther picture from Facebook page of Abdul Mutallab.
However, it is yet to be confirmed that it is the same Mutallab cos his personal info is limited on Facebook page unless he adds you as his friend, huh

I agree with similar threads being merged if it comes to light that they are same but what i detest is the abuse that some people throw all for this.
We do not live in perfect world and people might open new threads in a hurry. Abusing them wont help, it would simply prolong matter cos they too would also fire their bullets leading to a shambolic or juvenile forum.
There are easier and more mature ways to resolve probs of this nature.

I participate in loads of forum and even owned one myself but i must say this is the one and only forum where i see too much abuse being hurled all over the place. No need for this.
PoliticsRe: Real Pic Of Mutallab by beninman1(op): 10:50am On Dec 27, 2009
If anyone doesn't have a brain, it is you and no one else.
Your style of writing says it all.
I would be wasting my time engaging your in further chat, Mr Bandwidth, I know it all!!!Mr my father owns here!!!

You can write whatever you wish but i wont bother with you anymore. Silence is best answer for your type.

I must admit i wonder why there is so much abuse and tribal trash on this forum. Surely, we as a nation are better than that.
This is a forum and not a war front.
Let' s us be civil. We can argue without abuse or tribal assault. I believe it is those who can't win an arguement that chose to derogatory words and abuse.
PoliticsRe: Real Pic Of Mutallab by beninman1(op): 10:36am On Dec 27, 2009
What exactly is silly in someone trying to post 2 versions of the pictures?
Is this wrong?
All that has been done is to highlight the fact there is an older pic and a much younger school boy pic being circulated

I can see the western press have a pic of suspect bomber which some claims was obtained from Sahara Reporters.
It shows a young male of 16-19 age range in my opinion wearing a white collared shirts with most of the top buttons opened.
However, i have just seen another picture on guardian website which looks completely different from this pic being paraded all over the place.
Will upload shortly
PoliticsRe: Nigerian Banker Claims To Be Father Of Suspect Terrorist Bomber - Sky News by beninman1(op): 10:20am On Dec 27, 2009
Yeah thats correct. i agree with you.
But the thing here is that i hope for his sake, he acquired this property thru legitimate means cos naturally spotligt would shift to his background etc.
Police would be interested in bank accounts, assets to see if and how there is link to terror funds
