From my perception, it seems @LagosNIV didn't quite say such question was not asked, but the import has been misconstrued by the applicant. I for one do not believe previous DV application weighs per se, but could we in any way know why such a question may have been asked and then signal close of interview (that is, if transcript is correct) @LagosNIV sir? We love you boss.
Good question @OmoBendel24... Sincerely i just did not want to contest the position with @LagosNIV, someone i met at the embassy after my interview was asked that same question tho the person said NO, but in reality did apply for DV-Lottery in time past and was granted (Though, i told him it was wrong to lie to get a Visa).

However, this strengthened my personal opinion that the question was used as a decoy to know if an applicant had once nurtured an immigrant intent BUT if such applicant have a STRONG tie back home would be approved on that basis, and if he/she was in a 50/50 position in the calculation of the VO he/she could be disapproved.

Just my personal Opinion.

Thx for ur response. I think u misunderstood me,its not about convincing the vo of my reasons to be in the US its if not going to see my bro as one of my reasons is a red flag. I was just curious about that.
If you read the transcript posted yesterday on the applicant going to Los Angeles;

VO : Do you have family in the U.S.?
ME : Yes, my sister lives in Los Angeles, but we won't be staying with her though because we already made hotel reservations.

So that can never be a red flag...

Please everyone should just try invest time to read old threads, trust me the education is immense.

Thank you for the reply, please explain the ties in more details to me, i have 2 lands, one building, and a good job, parent wife, properties etc, is there any other ties more than this?
The VO's generally believe all of these ties could be faked and fabricated... be it land, building, job and so on.
I'm not in a position to better ascertain what your tie was or the defect the VO saw but I'm very sure your ties were not well represented by you.

To better help you, search specifically for the part 1 of this thread read it all from post 1 to 360 sumtin where it ended i can bet you'll find all your answers therein.

Hi everyone,
My training has been cancelled so I'm not going for that anymore. I still feel it'll be a good idea to get an American visa now that I out my mind to it. I just have a quick question,my younger bro is studying in new york... But when going I won't go to new york n not sure of visiting him on the first trip. Is there something wrong with that? Like my bro is in new york but I won't be going there?
Thx for ur response in advance
So what in essence do you need to be in America for? if you can't convince yourself about your reasons to be in America then you cant convince any VO.

Dear VO,
My wife and I went for US visa interview last year B1/B2, we were asked of our marriage date and some other questions which we answered ok and the interviewer said OK without checking our documents.

But lastly, he asked me if i had for once entered for US VISA LOTTERY before which i answered YES. He asked when i answered DV 2012.

And the VO REJECTED OUR VISA without any explanation.

(NOTE:
I entered DV 2012, I was a Lucky winner, but later they said there is a COMPUTER GLITCH which VOIDED the DV 2012 result that time
and when the re-selection was done i wasnt among the lucky ones)

Please what can be the problem is it that I was wrong to enter DV 2012.

Kindly reply
worried somebody.
To be very sincere with you the VO used that DV-Lottery question to know if you once nurtured an immigrant intent because he/she somewhat found out your ties as established wasn't strong but you looked good to get it. but as soon as he got wind of your past Immigrant intent which was not too long ago "2012" he/she had no choice than to refuse your application. Just my personal view tho....

This question was the last question the VO asked me when i interviewed... I had not participated in DV Lottery's and so i said NO and hence she approved afterwards.

NOTE: Participating in past DV Lottery(s) does not mean you don't qualify for a non-immigrant visa but your ties to your homeland. if your ties aren't strong and you have been seen to have once nurtured an Immigrant intent then you MIGHT be refused.

It's true... sometimes applicants even get upset and yell about it because they say we are the same VO that always refuses them but I can clearly see in their notes who spoke to them last. As a matter of policy we will send you to see the next VO if we were the last to interview (and refuse) you.
Wow.... Great info, Keep the good work going!

But can you withdraw from ATM with the new regulations?
Many are having big problems withdrawing money.
Nobody is having problem withdrawing, the problem is the exchange rate.... Like Someone wrote on my fb wall yesterday: The Banks are the new abokii in suite & tie, they are currently exchanging at the Abokii (parallel) rates if you use your ATM abroad instead of the standard CBN rates.

Pls house, is it compulsory I most hold money while traveling? I'm not staying in hotel and I can withdraw from ATM in the US. I was wondering if it's a requirement that one must travel with certain minimum amount of money.
Beware of anyone who requests funds for a BTA, or Basic Travel Allowance, as a requirement to depart another country for the United States. There is no such thing as a BTA. Again, there is no such requirement under U.S. law.

Dear friends, please i have already applied for a visit visa to USA, do i need to make air flight bookings as part of supporting documents to present at the embassy?

Also do i need to do finger print and photo before the interview date?

Thank you
Question 1 - For now you don't need a flight booking... there's no point taunting the airlines when you don't have a visa yet.

Question 2 - Do you have your own hand scanner at home? If you do, you can..... Anyways, the embassy will do that for you when you get into the interview hall + you only need to go with just one 2 by 2 passport photograph.

When your situation changes....

But since you are going to school and you are only passing through the US, The Dominican Rep. is a former Spanish enclave, you can route your flight through Spain (Iberia).

Reapplying may just spell desperation, and then your intent start to show that you actually wanted to use the Dominican Rep. as a lie to run into the US.

hello house..finally went in for my interview today o ---so much crowd! i was like: why do we all have to be herehuh? Well, i answered that question myself in my head.

The VO that attended to me was a no-joke dude, straight face, refused like 3 people before me under one minute.i just told myself, its no do or die jor - i would jst visit other countries. So,

Transcript:
Vo: hey, you look stupid...go away.

me: noooooo!!!.....ok Just kidding --real convo:

Vo: Goodmorning
Me: Hi, Goodmorning
VO: why do you want to go to the US?
Me: Visit my closefriend and sightsee *he types*
VO: So what do you do?
Me: am an IT bla bla bla with Bla bla bla institution *he types*
VO: Where do you wanna go in the US?
Me; First stop is to ohio to see my friend but we have plans to visit other cities too
VO: Have you travelled outside Nigeria before?
Me: Yes, i listed the countries *he types and checks passport*
VO: Well, am sorry..you do not qualify at this time, picked up the blue sheet
opened my passport to slide it in, looked up at his screen, then paused and said " oh wait a minute, something came up" *my heart skipped a thousand beats* as i exclaimed "wow!"and he started typing again and again (i wonder what all of them keep typing with those fast fingers)

he kept trying to do something to my passport for a while then said " am sorry am having a little issue wit my system" ( at this point, my soul was at the mosque praying - was just my body at the embassy waiting)

then finally, he said "ok, here u go" (handing me the white paper for pickup)

At this point, i could only whisper a thank you.
Dont knw if he was kidding abt denying me at first or he actually saw sumthng and changd his mind--watever it was, he got me!

I honestly do not know what these people look out for, its amazing how they do these things to decide who to give or not. My advise is just: State the truth. Its better to be denied when you stated the truth, you know you qualify & wont misuse the privilege than to be denied if you cooked up stories.
Great news...

but that embassy crowed ehn.... Some peeps will be like "Today na Today"

LagosNIV:
Applying again is unlikely to result in a different answer unless you have some new information to provide - contrary to popular belief, refusals have nothing to do with the "intentions" of the applicants. Some folks just don't meet the criteria to qualify for a certain visa class, even if they have the best of intentions. This is dictated by U.S. immigration law.
So there you have it @Opsyafo...

Good day all I have been following this thread silently....just came back from the us embassy and I was disapproved. i applied for a b1/b2 visa because i was just passing through the usa to get to dominica.my interview went like this
v.o good morning
me good morning ma
v.o what r u going to the us to do
me I am just passing thru us to get to Dominica
v.o what r u going to do in Dominica
me I am going to school there
v.o are u married
me.no
v.o. do u have kids
me .no
v.o have u ever travelled before
me no
v.o what part of the us will u be going through?
me:newyork
v.o why must u go through the USA to Dominica when there are other countries to pass through.
me becos the USA is very close to the carribean island.
v.o u ineligible for this visa black black black u can reapply gives blue slip

please where was I wrong she did not go through my passport cos I have Dominica visa since that's my final destination. she did not check my documents... please help me I have booked my flight throug USA. I have a friend that went through that same route and hers was approved in abuja.....she advised me to do d same n mine in Lagos was rejected.... I am so pained.....can I reapply..... gurus in the house pls advice me.
I often feel sad when people with genuine visa intentions get denied... Anyway, i strongly think you should reapply because vo's make mistakes too and their colleagues do acknowledge this by eventually issuing the visa. And also note that if you've shown any act or sign of desperado or you gave innuendos that suggests that you are not what you are claiming you will continually be refused.

@LadgyG and @chloe7 How are yall. Nice work here on the USA thread.

Please i have an important quick one oh, I am filling the Non-immigrant D160 form for my mum who plans to visit the USA in June for a Christian Conference before i remembered that my mum has been to the united states twice on visit visas and the last time in 2007 for same conference.

so i am thinking, am i filling the right form so? is she not suppose to be applying for a dropbox or something?

Please i am familiar with uk and other countries but not yankee mehn, abeg help me clarify. Lastly, she is applying from Abuja.
Thanks

"One who ask questions is wise"
You did not state if she was issued a 2years B1/B2 visa or was just given a Month/6 Month or less visa.

However, you can only qualify for a Dropbox if:

The applicant’s last visa interview resulted in an issuance;
The applicant was ISSUED a TWO-YEARS B1/B2 United States visa;
The visa expired no more than TWO-YEARS prior to re-issuance;
The applicant has never been arrested nor had an encounter with law enforcement, customs, or immigration officials in the United States.

Hello ma people.. The likes of lady G, chloe, and other guyz which there name is not familiar to me. I great you all for the great work you have engaged into in this forum so far.
I wish to ask some ques as regard.
Ma interview is in next month which is early march. I am a Doctor going for conference base on ma profession. Just want to ask if i need to attach ma marriage certificate to the document i'm taking along. i am going alone, no family attache.. Or anything you think it will be necessary to take along so that i will not be left dumbfolded. This is ma first time applying though.
Thanks in anticipation
Good Morning Doctor....

You can go with your marriage certificate just in case the VO has any doubt he/she may ask you for the certificate.
And while attending a conference it's not necessary you go with your family except you planed a vacation alongside your conference.
Also go with your conference invite, they may not ask to see it though...
Lastly, be prepared to defend the reason you are attending the conference and how it helps you or your job.

I was at stanbic head office today, StanbicIBTC is selling for 210 -$1 if you look at that display board you will see we buy at 203 we sell at 210
Most banks are selling for 199.50 it's only standard chartered that I heard that sells for 197 and a 1% commission charge
Wow..... will try my bank GTb. they just suck these days cos all they think of is how to deduct and milk you of your dear cash, i never considered them at all.... Now you said most banks sell at 199.50 will go there to whine them 1st cos you might be in a dream and GTbank has deducted half your cash only to wake up and it's real... (you can group them with MTN and Nepa #TeamIllegalBill)

@Chloe7 whats the criteria for getting it via other banks, but for the Ajose Adeogun branch of Stanbic i visisted today i specifically asked and the lady checked on her system and confirmed that they sell at 199 or so...

Please where can I get BTA . The black market rates is outrageous. Please I heard banks are not selling . Please I need an honest help .
Was at StanbicIBTC today and they said i can get at the normal exchange rate of N198/$1 but......

1) I have to open an account with them, (trust their process was relatively easy compared to other banks, no NEPA bill needed)
2) I have to give them a 2 weeks notice prior to when i'll be travelling (My trip is still a month or more away)
3) I have to provide them with Flight booking
4) Lastly, they must see my passport & visa while making the 2 weeks prior application for the dollars.

The good news is that i dont get to pay the 400+ exchange rate... i even asked the lady multiple times to be sure they are offering the dollars at the normal exchange rate not the parallel one with no extra charge(s) and she said yes!

So... this is useful info for others!

On the form the question is very clear... it says (MONTHLY SALARY) which is what you must state and if you do pay yourself a monthly salary from your business then i could advice you add 'em up but if you don't then state just what you earn from your civil service job.

Greetings to everyone,
Pls I nid clarification here on what to fill as my monthly salary In my Ds 160 form.I'm a civil servant with monthly salary Of 110k but my job gives me time to do additional business(poultry)though not registered with CAC but fetching me average of 180k monthly after d deduction of 7workers salaries, expenses incured such as vaccinatn and medication as well as the feeding of the birds in my farm. Can I fil 290k as my monthly salary?I'm a bit confuse here.Cos,110k is small and my bank statement shows my monthly salary and trasaction of my poultry farm business.kindly help me
The last person who posted his transcript (check above) runs only his personal business and was interviewed based on that, even in the US people run 2, 3 or more jobs.... IMHO i think you should feel free to fix in all that you earn if you truly do. VO's will always ask for clarification and then you can drop all this analysis you just posted..... as long as you are not misrepresenting and misinforming.

Good-luck sire!
