However, the company which was awarded the contract to upgrade the website said it received only N10m for the job, adding that it was mischievous of the state government to state in its records that N78.3m was given to it. Seriously??!? the company confirmed it only received N10m!!! If our secondary school students were properly trained, I don't see why a SSS1 student wouldn't be able to do even a better job than that trash. Can the company provide a breakdown please? As per the State putting the cost at N78.3m, let me guess - the ignoramus in charge of the finance was probably looking for something to inflate in order to balance the account and "upgrade of website" sounded sooooo sophisticated and difficult that it became a target. ![]() |
erico2k2:I see. Let Nigeria go to war with Russia and see if they will fight you with ak47s na. My friend, that statement was intended as a simple 'figure of speech.' So seriously, tell me what do you have to contribute?? ![]() |
This is long over due. Haba! In this age and time when countries are building nuclear weapon and drones, our soldiers are still going around with AK47 left over from the Biafra war. Biko, let all Nigerians in diaspora who are knowledgeable in this field come home and help. I'll definitely volunteer in the area of building drones and long range missiles. ![]() ![]() |
tiredof9ja:Your questions are already answered on this thread. Please read from the beginning. Also, you will find answers to your questions and more in the Government of Canada site below: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp ![]() |
Afam4eva:Yes, it is long but not difficult; it is just lots of paper work. They basically want to know what you have been doing with your life since you turned 16. I've not heard about anyone being denied if eligible. Those that failed to get the visa are those that did not follow up. Just apply and go ahead with your life. When they reach out to you for addition info, provide it, and before you know it they will notify you your visa is ready. People get frustrated with the process when they suspend all they are doing and keep waiting for the immigration visa. |
raayah:Thanks for adding your experience. I hope more nairalanders will share their experiences so that those that are still scared of dealing with the embassy will have a change of heart. ![]() |
Afam4eva:As an international student studying in Canada, you are considered a temporary resident. The Canadian government expects that you will leave Canada once you have completed your studies. However, there are several permanent resident categories that you may fit into, including the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Provincial Nominee Program. Some of those categories require eligible Canadian work experience. If you want to work in Canada after you graduate from your studies, you must apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program. See details below where I did "copy & paste" from . . . ![]() http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/publications/study.asp#stay |
Ujoan:Spot on! That website is all you need. Follow the steps there to the letter and if you are eligible and have all they asked for, you are sure to get the visa. Yes, it is a long process but with patient and tenacity, you will get there. Three pieces of advice I'd give ya: 1.) Read the instructions and follow the steps as stated on the site. The instructions are very simple and straightforward; you will actually need someone to help you to miss it. 2.) Don't use any agent, lawyer etc They are not able to influence the embassy's decision. All they do is to submit your document for you and get you updates - you can do all that yourself. There are exceptions to this if your case is complicated. 3.) Start putting money aside in your account, you will need a lot of it for the application and to convince them that you are able to immigrate without becoming a liability to their system. This is very important. Good luck! ![]() |
Afam4eva:Correct, study visa has limited working hours. No, there is nothing like conversion of visa. To work full time, you have to be either a permanent resident or a citizen and that will take you back to the immigration process. |
Yes, you cannot work in canada with visitor visa, and that includes even taxi driving or anything at all to make money. If your friend has the money to visit, he should visit for the experience. If his plan is to wipe out his life savings and even borrow money to travel, he is better off staying home. Life in a foreign land without papers his hard, very hard. By the way, there is no amount of visitor visa extension that will convert him to permanent resident. He will still have to go through immigration process. |
Back in 2013, a Canadian TV station put Nigerian embassy in Ottawa on full blast in respect of their inefficiency in the area of passport processing. See the clip below if you missed the story. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tXgawJ0hbDY I'm happy to inform all Nigerians in Canada that the wind of Change has finally reached Ottawa. I'm not sure when the change started but I visited the embassy last May and it was a totally different experience compared to my previous visit 4 years ago. Back in 2011, I went to the Embassy for passport renewal only to be told on arriving at the embassy on the the day of the appointment that their machine was not working. Up to the time of posting this piece, there has not been any refund of my application fees, not to talk of compensation for time and effort wasted. ![]() Fast-forward to May, 2015 when I was forced to go to the embassy again to obtain the new epassport as I had to travel home urgently for an important occasion. I completed the registration form and paid online. On the day of the appointment, I drove down to Ottawa expecting the best as I've been informed. Change #1: A full body scanner has been installed and a security man deployed to screen people as they come in Change #2: The office has been re-designed. While is looks nothing like Canadian offices, it at least looks a lot better compared to the "mama put" look of 2011. Change #3: Embassy Workers are now very courteous. I will give them 95% in this area. I'm holding back the remaining 5% because, one of the officers (and I think he is the supervisor) missed an opportunity to demonstrate empathy and go over and beyond. Change #4: A register has been opened to log people's visit after passing through the body scanner. Also, there is a register on the way out for comments and suggestions. Change #5: Processing time - this is off the hook! It is same day service or better still few-hour service. Below is a summary of my visit: 10:15 am: arrived embassy 11:02 am: called to the table to submit my application and documents 1:04 pm: Called to another room to have biometrics taken 2:08 pm: called back to the table to sign and collect passport It took about 4hrs from arrival to the time the passport was handed over to me. While I was in the embassy, about 40 passports were processed and handed out to the applicants. Oh, lest I forget, there was a time a gentleman came to the waiting room to announce that their server went down for some minutes and they had to reach out to Abuja to have it sorted out and that processing had resumed - talking of keeping your customers informed. Even though there has been a great change, there is still room for improvement. For instance, there was no regards at all to the appointment dates; people were attended to as they arrived. In fact, I called the embassy a week to the appointment and the official that I spoke with told me to come at any time – before or after the appointment. Also, there is a flight of stairs to the embassy and there is no ramp. For folks that came with infants in strollers, they had to carry their strollers and babies all the way up the stairs. Furthermore, security is still a bit porous as the security guard failed to scan a stroller that a woman brought into the embassy and when I went outside of the embassy for a few minutes I was allowed back in without being re-scanned or checked at all. Overall, it was a good experience and I was glad I got my new e-passports within a day. ![]() |
@OP, for immediate ejection of hard pop quickly get ENEMA. The Enema solution once injected into the anus will soften the pop and induce the action to expel it. Up till today I still have the empty bottle of enema in my bathroom med closet after suffering so much some years back. I simply fill the bottle with warm water and use any time hard pop shows up. See short note below from Wikipedia. ========= Many self-given enemas used at home are the packaged, disposable, buffered sodium phosphate solutions in single-use bottles sold under a variety of brand names, or in generic formats. These units come with a lubricated nozzle attached to the top of the container. Some enemas are administered using so-called disposable bags connected to disposable tubing (despite the names, such units can commonly be used for many months or years without significant deterioration). ====== In fact, warm water will do the trick if you can find a safe way to inject it into the area A. The brown rubber bulb used to help baby with constipation will work fine. Back in 2009, I dealt with what my Dr called 6 O'clock anal fissure. I cannot wish the pain on my worst enemy. It took several months to go away. I used several OTC med and prescribed med, even the "wait and get" one that the pharmacist will concoct for you on the spot. I know lots of folks have recommended anusol, that did not work for me. "Preparation H" is the med that finally brought comfort. The key to managing anal fissure and preventing re-occurrence is to keep your pop as soft as possible. Eat at least a serving of 5 different fruits per day. Make conscious effort to include enough fibre in your daily diet. I found cereals with high fibre very helpful. |
EfemenaXY:Yes, check out toastmasters. The best I've come across so far. Don't expect classroom training, TM is a club where everything done during each meeting is targeted towards building public speaking and leadership skills. It a relaxed environment where you learn and catch fun. |
@ OP, All you need is practice. There is no need for medication or binding the devil. ![]() You are in luck as I have an excellent recommendation for you - TOASTMASTERS. Visit toastmasters.org and check if you have a club close to you. Below is an excerpt from the site. TM is the only club that I know that provides practical way of learning public speaking and leadership skills. TM has a high rate of success that is outstanding. I've seen a new member that could not even stand up and introduce herself on her first day start giving great speeches in a few months. I found TM when I switched over from the Info Tech world to management. ![]() == Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our membership is 313,000 strong. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 14,650 clubs in 126 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations. The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish, they must communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmasters journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback—and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership. == If there is no TM around you, don't despair; again, all you need is practice. Look around for opportunity to speak in a group. For instance, when you attend meetings in your office, always contribute no matter how small. In your place of worship, take on roles that will offer you opportunity to speak in a small group. Is there any committee you can join at work? etc etc. Just practice! practice!! practice!!! Let me know if you need more info as per TM. Wish you the best as you discover that orator in you. ![]() |

T4kbaba: Allowing contract staff in any nation is a part of government failure. Gbam! So, when your company requires an extra hand on a project for about 6 months, what would you do? @ Gombs, If you were referring to the scripture below: . . . angels are ministering spirits sent to minister for those who are heirs of salvation?" (Heb. 1:14). My question still stands - who is doing the sending? Here is where my confusion lies: when KEH says to pray and say 'Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come,’ it sounds like we (Christians) are sending the angels to do something; however, from Heb. 1:14, there is nothing that suggests that we (humans/Christians) are the ones sending the angels. Agreed, they are being sent to minister for us. So, is there any record in the bible of a man sending angel to do anything? Just want to be sure before I start to dish out orders to the winged beings. ![]() ============== A quick quiz bro, what do you think led to Satan's rebellion? It is pride. ![]() |
Gombs:Do we have an example in the bible we can reference? |
@OP, I've a question as per the portion of the book below. While I fully agree that angels are ministering spirits sent to minister for those who are heirs of salvation?" (Heb. 1:14). Who is doing the sending? is KEH saying that Christians are doing the "sending" with this line: 'Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come." '? ======================= Exercising Our Authority That's why when the Lord told me to claim the money I needed, I understood what He meant. He was telling me to believe and exercise my spiritual authority in the area of finances. The Lord had said to me, "The money that you need is not up here in Heaven. I don't have any money up here. The money that you need is down there. It's Satan who's keeping it from coming, not Me. "Satan is going to stay there till Adam's lease runs out." (Then, thank God, Satan is going to be put in the bottomless pit for a little while, and finally cast into the lake of fire.)*** Hallelujah somebody! The Lord said to me, "Don't pray about money like you have been. Whatever you need, claim it in Jesus' Name. And then you say, 'Satan, take your hands off my money.' And then say, 'Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come." '***Screams!...Leaves my sit, walks outside speaking in tongues, myy colleagues thinks i've lost it*** This was way back in 1950. And from that day to this, I've not prayed about money. I'm talking about for me individually—personally. Now when it comes to RHEMA Bible Training Center, that's a different thing. We present the needs of the training center to people to help us, because that's not just my responsibility. It's the same way with the local church. It's not just one person's responsibility. We all should believe God, not just the pastor. And yet, right on the other hand, the pastor has a responsibility, too, because he's in authority. He has to do certain things and make certain decisions in the church. And that's a great responsibility. Angels Are Ministering Spirits In 1950 when I began to see how faith worked in the area of finances, it was all new to me. In fact, I said to the Lord, "What do You mean? I can understand the part about how we can exercise authority over the enemy, claim the finances we need, and tell Satan, 'Take your hands off my money.' But, what do You mean about the part, 'Go, ministering spirits, and cause the money to come'?" The Lord said, "Didn't you ever read in My Word where it says that angels are ministering spirits sent to minister for those who are heirs of salvation?" (Heb. 1:14).*** Thank God for Jesus Because I thought it said "minister to us," I had to get my Bible and read it. Isn't it strange how we can read Scripture for years and years, and read right over things and not get what the Word said? But to which of the angels said he at any time, Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool? Are they not all ministering spirits, sent forth to minister FOR them who shall be heirs of salvation? —Hebrews 1:13,14 Notice verse 13 says, "But to which of the ANGELS. . . . " So He's talking about angels. Now look at verse 14: "Are they not all ministering spirits. . . ?" Now notice what it said. "Are they not ALL [How many of them? All of them.] ministering spirits. . . ?" They are spirit beings. They are ". . . ministering spirits, sent forth to minister FOR them who shall be HEIRS OF SALVATION" (Heb. 1:14). Well, that's us! These angels are ministering spirits that are sent forth to minister for us. "For" us means they were sent to do something for us! Now over in Satan's kingdom, we could say that Satan is the chief. And, you see, all these demons and other spirits are doing his work. You hear folks say sometimes, "Satan influenced me to do that." Well, he might not have been there present at the time, but one of his ambassadors was. These demons and evil spirits influence people. They'll even influence Christians, if Christians will let them. Well, just as demon spirits influence people, good spirits or ministering spirits can influence people too. =================== |
@ OP, Proverbs 23:7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he . . . All your actions are results of your thoughts. When you mind what goes into your heart, you will master your actions. A good book that lots of people have had success with is "Battlefield of the Mind: Winning the Battle in Your Mind" by Joyce Meyer. When I newly became a christian and still found myself falling into old sins, this book provided an excellent explanation for what I was going through and how to deal with the situation. Note that the book is not only about sexual urges, but how to generally re-new your mind to live a victorious christian life. Hang in there bro, you will for sure overcome. Shalom. ![]() |
Hey Onegai, Long time!!!! Thanks for this piece. It is good to see that awareness is growing in this area. Isiterere:Seriously? Seriously?? Seriously You need to look well. If Sharia is already in the constitution under the so called "democratic" rule and you still cannot see the realization of Islamization of this country, you obviously have not been looking at the right spot. |
@ OP, What is God telling you about your situation? Are you just offering your prayers and dashing out of your closet expecting eveything to happen just as you asked? Remember, prayer is a dialogue. Try to do some listening after offering your prayers - be sensitive to the still small voice, even after you have left you closet at the end of your prayer. A lot of times when we pray, God responds by telling us something; however, because we focus on the manifestation of our desire we miss what God wants us to do which will eventually lead to the answer to our prayer. Answers to prayers do not always come as immediate manifestation of our desires. Why? It is because most of the time we ask for what we are not ready for (or in the bible words - we ask amiss!). Again, what is God telling you about your situation or what has HE told you to do since you have been praying? Think about it, if there is anything God has been prompting you to do that seems so remote from what you are asking for and you ignore it, that is probably the bridge to the answer you seek. Focus on dialogue with God and do whatever He requires of you and He will guide you to your answer at the appropriate time. Now, here is what I will advise you to do: take your post about this issue to God; nothing fancy, no fasting and marathon prayers. Simply, read your post to him and ask him to tell you exactly what you are asking from Nairalanders. After that, wait to hear from him by being sensitive to the still small voice. Shalom ![]() |
@Elijah78, Below are some scriptures and notes for you to consider in respect of your statement below and others on this thread. I'm sure by the time you get through to the end, you will feel like there are contradictions in the bible. Be rest assured that the bible is plain and perfect. ================ I just sincerely wish to share with you some facts in scripture concerning When the Holy Spirit starts to play a role in our lives, and that role is to reveal us to Jesus so that Jesus can led us. It is the Father that reveals Jesus to us through the Holy Spirit when we have diligently seek Him. It is not possible and I repeat, it is not possible to say ''Holy Spirit I invite you into my life"" and the Holy Spirit will come just like that. I will gradually take us from a background and led us to the main point in scripture. Please bear with me. =============== Romans 8:14New King James Version (NKJV) 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God , these are sons of God. John 14:6New King James Version (NKJV) 6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me . Romans 8:9New King James Version (NKJV) 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His . Ephesians 1:13-14 New King James Version (NKJV) 13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, 14 who[a] is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory. Read the whole of acts 10 to get the full picture, but see this excerpt below to wet you appetite: Acts 10: 44- 48 New King James Version (NKJV) While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word. 45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also. 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God. Then Peter answered, 47 “Can anyone forbid water, that these should not be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we have?” 48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then they asked him to stay a few days. - -- Note that the folks who received the Holy Spirit in Acts 10 were unbeliever, but they received the Holy Spirit while Peter was still sharing the message of salvation - no striving, no pain , no asking for Holy spirit, no prayer of the sinners said, no altar call, no seeking of the father for months or fervent prayers etc. What do you think about this? How do we received the Holy Spirit? We receive the Holy Spirit by simply receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior (John 3:5-16). When do we receive the Holy Spirit? The Holy Spirit comes to live in us the moment we believe (Ephesians 1:13-14) How can I be saved? John 3:16New King James Version (NKJV) 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. Acts 16:31New King James Version (NKJV) 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Ephesians 2:8-9New King James Version (NKJV) 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. Once a sinner* believes* in Jesus, the sinner receives* salvation*, Holy Spirit* comes to live* in the "new* person" (no longer a sinner) and the new person can now have a relationship* with the father* (through the Holy Spirit). You need full understanding of each word with asterisk in the above statement in order to comprehend the statement. The message of salvation through Jesus Christ is actually so simple that you will need someone to help you to miss it. |
Elijah78: ££Benjibabs to to add to what ££Cutekemitola has said, That is exactly what Jesus said.@Elijah, what version of the bible are you using? Did you just paraphrase Matt 7:28? I checkered two different versions and below is what I have: == Matthew 7:28-29 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine: For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. == The people were actually ASTONISHED not confused. And the reason for their astonishment was given in verse 29 - For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes. Now, talking about praying in public vs. praying in your closet, whatever prayer you pray in your closet and is acceptable to God if prayed in public will be acceptable as well. Likewise, whatever prayer you pray in public and is not acceptable if prayed in your closet will not be acceptable as well. This tells us that Jesus' teaching @Matt 6:6 was about something other than public or private prayer. My take is that the teaching was about sincerity of our heart when we pray. Private praying is simply a means to an end. As you have rightly mentioned, lots of people (not all people) change their way of praying when in public for selfish reasons, and God can see far beyond their outward presentation to their hearts. So, anyone who finds his prayer in public conforming to people around will do well to pray in private. Let's lay down public/private praying down for a moment and talk about the step 1 of our Christian journey - salvation. Please help me to understand your statement below. ** Salvation is a long, slow, painful, glorious, exciting, fearful, joyful process that requires courage, determination and perseverance. Why? Jesus says so, that’s why. ** What exactly does one need to do in order to be saved? |
@Elijah78 I don't quite get your posting about public praying and some other points you raised in your last post. You mentioned that public prayer and praise are terrible things and you quoted Matt 6:6. See the verses below: === John 11:41-44 Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me. And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me. And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. ===== Did Jesus pray in public here or what ? Were Jesus words contradictory when he mentioned not to pray in public in Matt 6:6 or was he not just practicing what he preached ? Thought please? |
@Ken It is a good thing to see that you are learning humility fast; however, there are a few things I'd say here to help you along your way as you transition from a teenager to a young adult. ![]() I believe you have genuinely realized you mistakes and wanted to sincerely apologize, but the way you are going about it clearly shows your naivety. A few points from your last two posts: 1. you cannot force people to accept your apologies. Agreed, that was not your intention but that was the way it came out. 2. giving excuse for your action nullifies your apologies 3. you cannot request for acceptance of apologies as a favor See comments inserted in your post below for clarity: === @Onegal, I'll keep saying " I'M SORRY till you answer me. {it is a tad forceful} I really spoke irrationally and I'll need y'all to forgive me on that. {I've forgiven you }I'm not like this, probably was in a bad mood at that time. {Excuse after apologies - never a good thing!} Onegal, you're an amazing artist and you're a blessing to NL artists. {Patronizing is not good either }Do me this huge favour and forgive me. {Never ask for forgiveness as a favor - does not make sense} I'll be very grateful and will extinct myself from this thread (if it pleases you).== I do understand you really wanted to right your wrongs, but unfortunately it is not as easy as erasing a wrong drawing. You have to realize other people are involved and you cannot control how they feel or respond. Hurt takes time to heal. So, just apologize without any excuse and leave it, and more importantly change your ways for good. Finally, I still have this feeling that your repentance is not complete and you have not seen the big picture. Why? Here - " I'll be very grateful and will extinct myself from this thread (if it pleases you)." and "Btw, I'll be leaving nairaland, looks like I'm not wanted here (lol)" Extincting yourself or leaving nairaland is not the solution your issue, your attitude is what you need to work on. If you leave nairaland without learning that lesson, you will end up with this statement of yours --looks like I'm not wanted here-- wherever you go. If someone creates a thread for a purpose and you jump in to post "unrelated" material/info, the reaction you'd get will definitely make you feel unwanted. But just try and post related, helpful info on any thread and watch how your likes will skyrocket and the number of your followers will explode. Up to today, the Ken that I know is the one that has been upsetting our class; however, how surprised I was to check your profile and found out that you actually created a thread where you showcased your beautiful art works. Now, be honest with yourself, did you ever feel unwanted on that thread? That is my 2kobo. You can thank me later ![]() |
@onegai For the sake if those of us who are here to learn and have been learning, i would join Kmoore to ask that you re-consider your decision. I believe the other serious students will join in a moment and put in their 2 kobo. As per Ken, the bold portion below explains it all. "Ken Nwadiogbu is 19, I am in my 30s and he speaks to me with such..." He is young, raw, green and uncooked! Pay him no attention, biko. As you know, this is a faceless forum and you will come across the good, the bad and the ugly. I would think the moderators will "moderate" but from what I have seen so far unruly behavior goes without being checked. However, despite all the distractions lots of us are still learning. I understand how frustrating it could be when you are giving your precious time to help folks and some are just bent on causing "katakata." Please don't throw out the good apples with the rotten one. ![]() |

My friend, that statement was intended as a simple 'figure of speech.' So seriously, tell me what do you have to contribute??
