Just to comment on the picture you posted - Can you see any one good reason why that fellow who had the kid on leash could not hold the kid's hand instead? Kids on leash is simply bad parenting!.

So what is the real problem here??

Firstly, can you accept to be leashed like a dog or can you leash a fellow human being like dog? I believe your answers are NO like any other decent and "okay" citizen of this country. You need to understand that there are less fortunate people living in our midst who have been broken, crushed and oppressed by situations and circumstances to the extent that they have become vulnerable to every and anything. People get to certain level where they can accept anything just to keep body and soul together. This is where the authority comes in, to stop people from making indecent proposals just because they can exploit the vulnerable ones among us. Do you really think under normal circumstances those girls will accept to do such? Think about it deep down. Do you know that if you stepped out naked in the public while sane, you could be prosecuted for indecent exposure? Heck, it is your body and your choice to do so but the authorities will not allow it because of the effect of your "freedom of expression" action on the society.

Secondly, if you traveled abroad and while carrying yourself as a decent, gorgeous, successful Nigerian woman, a foreigner offered you a few bucks to leashed like a dog to be displayed in a social gathering, how would you feel? This is one of the far reaching effects of Mike's action. He has dent the image of not only these particular girls, but all Nigerian women and women in general. I can bet there are some sick folks out there who after reading this news would think they can just come to Nigeria to "hire" any women to be leashed for a few bucks. And guess what, the insult will not stop there; you will receive offer for even worse inhuman show that the mind of man could conceive. In short, the stigma is not only on these girls alone, but on all women with dignity. I'm really surprised that no women based org had risen up to condemn and call for this guy's head. Kudos to the governor for "pulling his ears." I wish he had received a better discipline.

Lastly, to answer your question, the real problem here is that lots of Nigerians have lived in an abnormal society for a long time that they don't know what a normal society should be.

Good Morning my fellow naira landers!

I am worried sick about my daughter, she is 16 months old and about 3 weeks back I noticed that when feeding her she holds the food in her mouth and just refuses to swallow for like 3-5mins. I asked her crèche and they said she does that in the crèche too, I had to beg them to exercise patience with her because it can discourage them from feeding her, feeding her now takes about 1hour at least.

After about 2 weeks of this habit gradually getting worse, she just stopped eating completely. when I try to force feed her she vomits everything she took in. I tried feeding her normal adult food(rice, beans, yam) she just takes 2 or 3 spoons and runs away ( her usual food is pap and cereals).

I treated her for malaria and dewormed her, still this condition persisted. I even gave her cyprigold but no improvement instead it got worse.

on Friday I took her to the hospital, the pediatrician sent us for abdominopelvic scan, chest x-ray, blood, stool and urine screening. the results came back this morning all clear. the doctor is as confused as I am.

Through out sat and Sunday I spent the whole day with her, she didn't eat once. the ones I forced her to eat she vomited. she just drinks little sips of juice, chews little pieces of wafers and banana. when I put meat or fish in her mouth she carries it in her mouth till she sleeps, I have to open her mouth and remove them so it doesn't choke her in her sleep. as for rice or other foods, when she sees u carrying a plate she runs away.

for almost a week now she has eaten nothing! am scared, I don't know how long she can continue on little or no sustenance. the doctors are not worried because she is still hyperactive but her weight is dropping and its scaring me.

please Mother's in the house have any of you ever experienced anything remotely like this? how did it turn out and what can be the cause and what can I do? the doctors have checked her and no health issue. help please!!!

@ the bold portion is an area you can exploit - turn feeding to play. Give her one or two spoons, let her run around and when she comes back give her more. Just don't run after her or try to pin her down. Put on your clown garb, sing her favorite songs and let them end with sticking the food in her mouth. Simply get her to think feeding is playing. Patience na the name of the game, bro!

Also, start to encourage her to eat by herself. Some kids will start to refuse food when they are ready to start eating themselves.

Hang in there, she will be fine.

First, I will say from the little I have read that her son seems to have made tremendous strides and that is very encouraging.
However I will note that from her write up-he still displays autistic traits i.e still socially awkward, hyperactive etc.

There is one saying. "once you meet a person with autism, you have met just ONE". It's a very curious disability or should I say differently able in that yes there is the triad of impairment -speech, communication and social interaction but how it presents differs greatly: just like how we are all human beings, have the same biological make-up but yet very different as individuals.

She mentioned that ABA was used in conjunction with dietary approach. I do not subscribe to ABA, when i researched t, it reminded me Pavlov's theory and my son is NOT a dog to be trained to respond appropriately. I have always wanted to understand why things were required of me, if I had that understanding, it was easier for me to do as expected because it made sense.

Using that logic, I would rather not enforce conformity to socially accepted norms, but rather encourage creativity to help my son make sense of the world in a way that HE understands and not the way societal norms dictate.

She rightly mentioned that there is a link with the gut and that has been my experience too, my son is severely constipated but there is no firm link that has been proven to verify this. Probably because not all children with autism present this. Out of all the parents i have met, my son is the only one with chronic constipation and food sensory issues. The other kids eat like hoovers .

All children with autism make progress with the right intervention but no-one can say really what the outlook is in the longer term. For one, it is a neuro-developmental condition, we still understand very little of the human brain so it is hard to predict. In all, I could tell that even though she is highly qualified, we are two very different people when it comes to parenting our autistic children.

Her son goes to a mainstream school, I fought to get my son into a special school, never mind the stigma because I accept him, I want him to know he is different but be proud of his difference...and boy is he excelling. Yes he speech is delayed but we are getting there, but he reads, writes, spells brilliantly, is funny, has a great sense of humor, very loving and he's just 5..most of all..he very confident. That boy don't give a toss, he marches to his own rhythm and you know what? He gets the world much better than even I, his mummy.

In all, we all bring our personalities into parenting and that includes those of us with additional needs, i might not agree with her methods but I know she is doing what she feels is best for her child. But to free from autism? Nahhhh. People just develop better coping strategies.

You are right - every child is different, even those without autism. It seems you have a good grip on what to do to help your son. As long as you are getting the desired results, keep doing what you are doing. I pray for more grace and wisdom for you to continue to help him.

There is no cure for autism. It is a lifelong neurodisability which can be managed.

Dr Natasha's son was diagnosed autistic at three; today, he is a teenager without any symptoms of autism. She has also helped lots of family.

Well, a lot of this is a localised issue in my opinion. Where are the worldwide studies showing corresponding rise in cases in Africa, Asia and Europe? Thats how you know MMR vaccine causes Autism. And I'm speaking from a place where I know a lot of anti-vaccers (who did their best to convince me) versus well-educated, practised medical siblings (who questioned my sanity if I refused our vaccines. One is on the forefront of Paediatric care in several African countries).

@ the bold portion, if you believe MMR causes autism, how would you explain a situation where a child who took MMR did not become autistic? And mind you, the children who did not become autistic after taking MMR far out number those who did. This is the reason Dr. Natasha's perspective got me. While I was a big fat OLODO in biology, I can relate perfectly well to the dr's logical explanation being an excellent IT guy who engages in troubleshooting on daily basis. I knew all along that there must be another factor since the result is not consistent in all cases.

Does MMR cause autism?

Talking about autism it is impossible to avoid the issue of the MMR vaccine and vaccination in general. Following research by Dr. Wakefield there has been a lot of publicity on this subject. The government has put a lot of effort and money into convincing the public that MMR vaccine is safe. While the MMR vaccine was in the lime light, other vaccines got questioned as well, due to the fact that many of them contain Thimerosal, a Mercury compound. Others are new and have not been tested long enough, yet apparently the number of unreported complications from these vaccines is much higher than anybody would expect. On top of all this we have to remember that vaccines are commercial products made with profit in mind. Is it true that the 3 million pounds which the government recently spent on MMR promotion were paid for by the companies who have a commercial interest in this vaccine?

So, does MMR cause autism?

I do not believe that things are so simple. Here we have to look at autism as a whole picture and vaccination as a whole.

Let us have a look at what is happening to children in our modern society. If you look around, how many healthy children would you see? Childhood asthma, eczema, diabetes, allergies, hay fever, digestive disorders, ADHD and autistic spectrum disorders have all gained epidemic proportions! The majority of siblings of autistic children have eczema, asthma or another one of those disorders. And though all these health problems appear to be different, they have one thing in common. A very big thing - a compromised immune system with suppressed Th1 and overactive Th2 parts of the immunity. These two opposing arms of the immune system normally should be in balance. But in these children they are out of balance reducing the body's ability to fight infections and predisposing the child to allergies and autoimmune reactions. A
compromised immune system is not going to react to environmental insults in the normal way! Vaccination is a huge insult for the immune system. The manufacturers of vaccines produce them for children with normal immune systems which will react to these vaccines in a normal way. And perhaps 50 or even less years ago the majority of children had normal immune systems, so vaccination was producing the expected
results of protection against infections without any harm for the body. However, in our modern society with our modern way of life we are rapidly moving to a situation where a growing proportion of children do not have a normal immune system and will not produce an expected reaction to the vaccine. In some of these children vaccination, putting an enormous strain on an already compromised immune system,
becomes that "last straw which breaks the camel's back" and brings on the beginning of autism, asthma, eczema, diabetes, etc.. In other children, whose immune system is compromised to a lesser degree, vaccination will not start the disorder, but it will deepen the damage and move the child closer to it.

But what makes the immune system compromised? What is it in our modern life styles that does this damage?

There are a number of factors which play their part in damaging the delicate balance of the immune system, but some major factors deserve particular attention:

1. Gut Dysbiosis.
2. Use of antibiotics, steroids and other drugs.
3. Consumption of sugar and processed foods.
4. Consumption of trans-fatty acids.
5. Food additives.

Let's look at some of these factors in detail.

1. Gut Dysbiosis.

Not everybody is aware that our bodies are a home to huge numbers of bacteria, viruses, fungi and other microbes. In a healthy body this micro-world is properly balanced and fulfils a whole host of beneficial functions, without which we would not be healthy. The largest population of microbes, called gut flora, live in our digestive systems. The gut wall with its microbial flora has been described as "the right hand" of the immune system. If the bacterial layer is damaged or worse than that, abnormal, then your immune system is trying to function with its right hand chopped off.

Let us have a look at some details.

· The epithelial surface of the colon is inhabited by huge numbers of bacteria, and can be truly described as a "cradle" of the immune system, both systemic and mucosal. The beneficial bacteria in the colon, engage lymphoid tissue of the gut wall and take part in the production of huge numbers of immunoglobulins. For example, in the cell wall of Bifidobacteria, one of the major inhabitant groups of a healthy gut flora, there is a substance called Muramil Dipeptide, which activates synthesis of B and T-Lymphocytes. As a result, a healthy gut wall is literally infiltrated, jam packed with B and T Lymphocytes, ready to protect the body from any invader. Your digestive system is a major gate into the body and needs good guarding.

· The beneficial flora of the gut has got a pronounced anti-viral activity. They take part in the synthesis of such anti-viral substances as interferon, lizocym and surfactins, which dissolve the membranes of lipid envelope viruses. The food and drink which we consume are full of disease causing viruses, but the healthy gut flora would not allow them to take hold in your body.

· Immunoglobulin A is a substance which is secreted by the gut wall into the gut lumen in response to new food arriving from the stomach. It is the immune system's way of dealing with the unwelcome invaders coming with food and drink. Fairly soon after being excreted the Immunoglobulin A naturally degrades. The beneficial bacteria in the gut slow down this degradation, allowing the Immunoglobulin A more time to do its work.

· Healthy gut flora absorb considerable amounts of heavy metals, phenols, formaldehyde and other toxic substances, acting as natural chelators and protecting the immune system from them. It is known that the immune system is particularly vulnerable to these substances. As a result of all this activity your healthy gut flora keeps the two major arms of the immune system, the Th1 and Th2 immunity, in proper balance. The condition, when the gut flora is not healthy, is called - Gut Dysbiosis. In this condition the beneficial bacteria in the gut are damaged or eradicated.

As a result the gut wall gets taken over by a large number of pathogenic and opportunistic bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites, all producing very toxic substances. The digestion and absorption of food becomes abnormal, the gut wall becomes damaged and "leaky". But most importantly, as we are concentrating on the immune system here, the person with gut Dysbiosis becomes immune-compromised.

A number of factors in our modern life styles can damage the delicate balance of the gut flora. Antibiotics and steroids are major contributors, consumption of processed foods, a toxic environment, prolonged stress, etc.

Here we are talking about vaccination, so we need to look at babies' and children's gut flora. Babies get their gut flora from the mother. So, if the mother does not have healthy bodily flora, then the baby will not have it either. Widespread use of the contraceptive pill (steroids) in young girls damages the gut flora. When it is combined with regular consumption of processed sugary foods and antibiotics, then the damage gets deeper. The majority of mothers of immune-compromised children with eczema, asthma, learning disabilities, etc. show symptoms of Gut Dysbiosis, such as digestive problems, allergies, skin problems, PMS, migraines, thrush, or simply chronic lack of energy. After the baby is born the breast milk promotes the process of populating the gut wall with appropriate bacteria. Formula milk does not fulfil this function. So, breast again is the best. However, in cases when the mother has a considerable Gut Dysbiosis with an overgrowth of abnormal bacteria, fungi, viruses and parasites in her gut, she will be excreting their toxins in her milk. A lot of these toxins have an opioid structure and act on the brain as real opioids would do. In these cases the mothers report that their baby would fall asleep on the breast after a couple of mouthfuls of this opioid rich milk. In other cases the baby refuses the breast or develops an allergic reaction. The recent research shows that the toxins, produced by abnormal gut flora, play a major role in development of autism.

The population of the gut wall with normal gut flora plays a major part in the appropriate development of the baby's immature immune system. If the gut flora is not normal then we can not expect a normal immune system. The breast milk provides a ready immune protection for the baby. So, while exclusively breast fed our babies can do quite well without properly developing gut flora, but when the breast feeding stops, it takes a few months for pathological symptoms to start appearing. This is exactly when the vaccination, and I mean any vaccination, may prove to be too much of an attack on an already compromised immune system.

2. Antibiotics and steroids, including contraceptive pills, and many other drugs apart from damaging the gut flora have a direct immune suppressing effect. Their wide spread use in mothers before and during pregnancy have a damaging effect on the immune system of the future baby. Antibiotics, taken by the mother during breast feeding, will pass to the baby through the milk and add to the damage of it's gut flora
and developing immune system.

3. 4. 5. Consumption of sugar and processed foods have a direct damaging effect on the immune system. On top of that these foods feed abnormal flora in the gut contributing to Gut Dysbiosis and hence to immune imbalance. Processed foods are a very poor source of nutrition and a very rich source of various toxic substances, like preservatives, colours, flavouring, aspartame, MSG, and all those E-numbers. Food
additives have been shown in a vast number of studies to have a detrimental effect on the immune system, brain chemistry, liver function, etc.. On top of that processed foods are a rich source of very harmful trans-fatty acids. Trans-fatty acids are unsaturated fatty acids with changed chemical structure. They have been shown to have a direct damaging effect on immune system. Children who are routinely fed on
crisps, sugary foods, soft drinks and meals out of tins and packets run a great risk of being immune-compromised.

Consumption of processed convenience foods, antibiotics, steroids, and the toxic environment are all features of our modern life style. Our children are paying the price for it. It is a fact that we can not afford to ignore!

So, my conclusion is that while MMR and other vaccines may not be the cause of autism, in immune compromised children they can do a lot of harm and in some children may well provide the trigger which starts the disorder.

Vaccination, which saved the lives of millions of children world-wide in the last century, is becoming dangerous thanks to changes in our lifestyles. The number of immune compromised children in developed countries is enormous and growing every day. It is time for the medical profession to review its attitude to vaccination. The cry "Vaccinate everybody!" has to change. Here is what I propose: a comprehensive immunological test has to be done with every baby before a decision about vaccination would be made. There are a number of very good tests already in existence to assess the state of one's immune system. These tests have to be put into an appropriate pre-vaccination panel for all babies and results of these tests have to be an essential part in the process for deciding which of the following steps to take:

· The standard vaccination protocol.
· Single vaccines only.
· Delayed vaccination until the results of the tests are better.
· No vaccination at all. A child presenting with eczema, asthma, digestive problems or any other disorder, which would indicate compromised immunity, should be a red flag not to vaccinate!

Those 3 million pounds which the government spent on promoting MMR might have been just enough to develop such a test panel, and in my opinion, a much more worthwhile investment in the future health of our nation.

The penalty is one month in jail or a N10 fine, adjusted for inflation. The penalty presupposes the offender will pass through the criminal justice system at some point. So, the soldiers malign our criminal justice system by taking law into their hands.

Point is, if a soldier beats up a fellow in camouflage, the camouflage wearer and the soldier are both breaking our laws.

If you do, then let the issue rest and continue. If you don't, then dig further. Talk to her and let her know that you are not going to judge her if she is "indulging" in the indecency. If she opens up to you, offer your support and help her to kick the "habit" before it becomes an addiction. You should understand that everyone will come across porn at some point in one's life; some people are able to resist the pull and do away with it while others get hooked. Both of you could search the web and read about the damaging effect of porn on relationships and on one's life in general.

If something is not done soon, there won't be any ATM machines left to recalibrate if tempers rage.

This period of pain that Indians are now going through, most notably by standing in long bank queues to convert old currency into new, is supposed to be good and patriotic according to the Indian government officials. The Indian citizens are told that they are to imagine that they are like soldiers defending the borders of India from enemy attack. More than 55 Indians have already died in those bank queues and the severing of food supply chains may yet cause many multiples more of Indian lives to be lost.

8. What if India is part of a global central banking experiment to understand what happens when other major economies like the United States, the European Union, China and Japan are subjected to a totally cashless world as soon as the next global financial crisis when all transactions are totally digitised and money does not exist outside the virtual realm? At this point, the banks and governments will then have total control over their citizens and all their privacy and sovereignty will be lost forever.

9. Notice, how sovereign bond yields across the world are rising, save in India, after Trump's election. This means that the over indebted economies of the world, primarily Western, are going to become unhinged very soon as the voluminous corporate junk bond market collapses followed by major falls in equity markets to compensate for the higher interest rates, which will stifle growth, make the dollar stronger in the short term, and usher in global recession with possible double digit inflation.

As the next financial crisis arrives, in late 2016 or early 2017, much bigger than 1998 which involved Long Term Capital Management (LTCM) and 2008 with Lehman Brothers, it is entirely plausible that as the world liquidity crisis arrives, the trillions of currency units that will need to be printed to bail out all the indebted nation states, derivatives markets and other financial credit instruments, will be printed as Sovereign Drawing Rights (SDRs) of the IMF because faith in the fiat currencies and their connection with sovereign bonds may have totally broken by then.

11. When that happens all currencies, including the US dollar, will become localised to the domestic market and will be internationally convertible only via IMF SDR's reference unit which may be christened "Global Currency Unit" or "GCU". Given that China's currency as of 1st October 2016 is part of the SDR, this means China will be an integral part of the bailout of the hugely indebted nation states. This will be an unprecedented development that will concern every country in the world.

12. The cash in the bank, and assets at stock markets, and everything could be frozen in this cashless new world as everything is redenominated in SDRs, thereby heralding the demise of the individual top currencies including the US Dollar, Euro, Japanese Yen, Pound Sterling and Chinese Yuan. Perhaps the Indian Rupee will at that point also be just denominated in SDRs.

13. It's an assumption, as yet unconfirmed that the single global currency -- the IMF's Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) -- may lead the way to our Brave New Cashless Digital World. In the meantime, the countries will continue with their beloved fiat currencies, but all new versions would be devalued and tied to the SDR.

Hello, Nairalanders. I don't know if this is the right section to post this but i will go ahead. I'm a young guy that have been very unhappy recently due to things happening to me. I gained admission into a tertiary institution in Nigeria(State owned) in 2011( i was 16 then). But since then, i have been battling with one problem or the other in the school, some which includes, Absence of matric number throughout my 100 level, No record found during my 300 level and many other problems. I managed to overcome all this challenges. I finished my 4 year course by early 2015( strike issue), I was happy untill i was called back that my result was rejected at the Senate because i didn't register for a course in my 200 level. I went back to write this course and passed, I was hoping that i would be mobilized for NYSC this batch b 2016 but an error was made with my matric number and i couldn't register again. Whereas, most of my colleagues are through with NYSC and moved on with their life and I'm here stucked at one point, all this has started affecting me that i can't even think straight, people are making it worse for me by asking questions like.. "Why are you still at home? You sure say you go school, e don reach 2 years wey you finish and you still dey house, even my Parents sometimes abuse me that your mate are no longer at this point and you are still here, all this have been making me unhappy and I'm afraid i will do something I'm not supposed to do. I'm the type of guy that don't believe things like village people are behind this, one mama from the village bla bla bla because I'm not a religious guy and i don't go to church or mosque ( but i believe their is a God somewhere) but people are making it seem like all this is happening because I don't pray and all. I don't even know what to believe or do anymore, I'm depressed. Pls advice me. .

Ah! I can relate to your issues very well as I passed through similar scenarios a while back. I started noticing such delays when I was in the secondary school. I noticed a test was not recorded for me in one of my core subjects and told my teacher. He claimed he did not see my test paper, meaning I did not write the test. I had the paper; however, the top was ripped off while my class mates were trying to see my paper as I scored a high mark. My teacher refused to record the mark for me. My dad came to my school to discuss the issue with the guardian counselor; he also refused to accept the paper. Anyways, I finished secondary school and when I received my certificate, my middle name was "wrongly" spelt; they put " D " instead of "F" and that changed the name to a different name. Till today I've an affidavit attached to my certificate to draw folks attention to the error and provide the correct name.

These issues followed me to my university days and I suffered serious consequences. A course mate once asked me why I I had to do things twice or thrice before succeeding. Note that none of these issues were my fault - just people writing my name, matric # etc wrongly. Something must just happen to delay my expectation despite my best effort to guard against errors from my end.

Ok. I graduated and started working, the issues still followed me. I remember vividly how I missed a job opportunity with one of the major oil companies. I passed both 1st and 2nd test. I cleared the interview and then everything went dead. Just one cool afternoon, I got a call from my brother, the company had sent him my invitation for medical test. Guess what? the invitation was sent via DHL and it took about 8 days from Lagos island to mainland. Obviously, they have tried to reach me in vain for some weird reasons and finally they reached out to my next of kin, my brother. In order for me to receive the mail in time, I asked my brother to use my current work place (contracting for another major oil company) internal mail system. Normally, any mail sent from the HQ in Lagos gets to the branch I was same day, but this particular mail did not arrive in 2 days. So, the search started and we finally located the mail in another branch entirely. My colleagues in that branch then forwarded the mail to me only to get lost in transit again. Once again, I searched and found the mail in yet another branch entirely. I finally received the mail after all the run around and the date scheduled for the medical test had passed. Just to fulfill all righteousness, I called the clinic. Immediately, I introduced myself, the nurse on the other side screamed, "where have you been? all your colleagues they sent to us for med test have completed their test and started work." She told me to still come and I did complete the test. she told me to give them about a week, but because for all the delays I've experienced I called after about 4 days. She told me the dr. who reviewed my test had approved me but the dr would like to have a chat with me before sending my file to HR. She said she even tried to persuade the dr to at least send my file to HR since I got the invitation late so that they could continue to process my application and I could see him any time before or after I resumed, but the dr. refused. I said, "thank you ma, but I can dash down by tomorrow." That was when she dropped the bomb shell; the dr has traveled on vacation and would be back in three long weeks. Chai!!!! there is God o! Come see old man dey cry like baby. I still feel the pains of those words even as I type now. Anyways, the dr came back and I saw him and guess what he told me? Some regular info about genotype. He advised me to marry someone with compatible genotype so as not to have SS children. I spent about 5 minutes with him and in my presence he signed off on my med result and told me they would send it over to HR. An that was it! I waited and after few days I called HR, I was told point blank, they already hired all candidates they needed and in case someone leaves or a new opening, they would be in touch. Lobatan!!!

A couple of things you should note in both our experiences:
1.) fighting whatever is causing the issue by yourself never solved the problem, the issue only resurfaced in other areas of your life
2.) the older you get the higher the stake

It is good you acknowledge there is a God, the next thing to do is to reach out to Him to help you. As you can see, your efforts and carefulness have not helped too much. Even when you are extremely careful, someone else will do something that will impact you negatively.
You need to get to the root of the issue and kill it off completely so that it does not spring up again.

Today, I'm free from whatever it was that was causing the set back. I went for deliverance in my church and I prayed with fasting. I could recommend my church or other great churches but since you are not a believer yet I'd advise you to talk direct to God. Simply talk to him like you would talk to your father and ask him to reveal himself to you and wait. Once you connect to God, you will understand how to deal with such issues without pointing accusing fingers to one mama or baba in the village.
