PoliticsNew Sokoto Govt House Fence To Gulp N772 Million by bennieman(op): 5:58pm On Jul 25, 2013
The Government House, Sokoto is to wear new look as the state executive council yesterday approved the construction of a security precast concrete fence at a cost of over N772 million.

Commissioner for Information, Malam Danladi Bako disclosed this while briefing journalists on the outcome of the state executive council meeting.
He said the approval for the new perimeter fence at the government house was necessitated for security and other reasons.
The commissioner noted that the present fence is too low and that it has suffered a lot of degradation for close to 30 years of its construction.
Bako asserted that it required renovation, adding the whole wall right from all the perimeter of government house is going to all come down and replaced by recast walls.
He said the work would include “increase in the height of the concrete walls and expansion to include the new buildings that were acquired by government and to replace a lot of all the damage parts.”
The commissioner added that it would also include the provision of two high quality furnished car parks on each side of the main entrance to the government house in the construction period is four month

PoliticsRe: Photo Of The Accident That Killed Patience Jonathan's Mum by bennieman: 5:51pm On Jul 23, 2013
Information reaching 247ureports.com from competent sources in Rivers State indicate that the reported death of the mother of the first lady of Nigeria may have been misreported.

According to the information received, the woman that died in the said car crash was not the mother of the first lady. But our source stated that the first lady called the woman mother.
The name of the woman who died in the crash is Sisi.
-
The remains of the deceased, who was travelling to neighboring Bayelsa, when the accident occurred was placed at Kpaima Mortuary, at Elechi Beach, Diobu, Port Harcourt, which is not far from Government House.

Unconfirmed sources said the accident happened at 6p.m. Monday. The political crisis in Rivers State may have prevented the state government from issuing an official statement on the passage of Sisi – the woman Patience Jonathan calls mother. Ordinarily, the commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari would have issued a statement on the death on behalf of the state government, but she was yet to do that at the time of this report.

CelebritiesSegun Adekoye: Tonto Dikeh May Be Suffering From Identity Crisis by bennieman(op): 6:41am On Jul 18, 2013
I am writing about Tonto Dikeh because she is someone I am genuinely concerned about. You won’t understand my concern. I love Tonto Dikeh. I have watched several of her movies and I sincerely believe she is made for acting (and for music in the afterlife). I wanted to talk about Tonto Dikeh and Rihanna but I believe Tonto’s crisis may be more serious than Rihanna’s.

While we may define success as the number of records and movies sold, awards won, number of fans, amount of money in the bank and so on, some artistes may not feel that way about themselves. Tonto has always been a controversial actress wanting to be in the news for several odd reasons. She begins a modest Nollywood career and begins to hit the high notes (in people’s subconscious) when she starts to take really daring (body-baring) scenes. She becomes a major source of concern after she finds a new career in music. Then, her kind of music and how she tries to pass her lyrics across is another reason to be concerned about the pretty actress. You find yourself reflexively tapping your colleague and asking if all is well with Tonto.

In my opinion, Tonto Dikeh wants to be a music superstar but she doesn’t know what genre to fit it. While she may want to try R&B and Soul, she is afraid that she doesn’t have the voice to sustain it. She also doesn’t have much faith in her rapping skills. Hence, the need to stick somewhere, anywhere that keeps her voice in the safe-zone. She wants to be like Rihanna. She wants to be able to do pop and electronic music. Ask her if she wants to win a Grammy, she’ll probably tell you she’s never considered it. And then ask her why she’s doing the music and she might shrug and say that she wants to make her fans happy.

How do you know Tonto is suffering from Identity Crisis?

Thank you for asking. I won’t go over the definition of Identity Crisis or what causes it. My friend Fola Daniel makes a good note of it here. I’ll just take an excerpt from his write-up:

I call it a process because most of the words associated with identity crisis reveal that they are not things that can come on you just in one night. They are things that happen gradually. You can’t wake one morning and start feeling intimidated by the people around you if nothing had been absent in you to allow for that intimidation. You don’t just see people and envy them right away. Envy is a feeling and a form of emotion that develops usually as a result of another process seen in other people. it is very obvious that most of the people experiencing identity crisis have something missing in them

1. Wants the Illuminatic attention

When Tonto released the video of her song “Hi”, it had similar sound and visual effects with Rihanna’s ” We found love” video. Symbolism and all those things attributed to Illuminati were present in the video. Even if Illuminati wasn’t a propaganda, she too small na. She never reach that level yet. She go need shine her torchlight well well.

2. Endless Twitter Rants & Wars

Tonto will be the first to start trouble on Twitter by indirectly dissing her colleagues. Like she is the Nigerian version Keri Hilson. So Tonto is trying to be like Rihanna and Keri Hilson at the same time. Na serious ish be that o. Tonto is also quick to insult fans that insult her. Like she has too much time on her hands.

3. Getting Drunk before a UK performance and falling on stage

There is no harm in taking a sip before you ride the stage for your performance before an international audience. The only harm is getting so stoned that you just rant like a car without breaks, you scream like a danfo bus conductor “London!”. Then you fall on stage. Who is Tonto trying to become? If she lacked the confidence to hit the stage alone because it was UK, she should have taken a backup or had someone support her.

4. Posting Drugs on Instagram

This is the most annoying part of it all. Tonto posted a marijuana wrap that almost got her in trouble with the NDLEA some weeks ago. This week, she posts the photo of a wrap and some powdery substance beside it. Whether it is drugs or not she has successfully passed her message across. What is Tonto Dikeh trying to call herself? A druggie? Another symptom of Identity Crisis.

5. Telling the world you’re okay when you’re depressed

But we all know Tonto isn’t exactly as happy as she claims and the criticisms aren’t getting to her. The fact that she even writes about it means they are getting to her. Here is what she posted on her Facebook page less than 24 hours ago.

How do you cure Tonto’s identity crisis?

Just say a prayer for Tonto because she won’t see a therapist or a psychologist. And she won’t agree with this write-up. I’d conclude using Fola Daniel’s words:

Don’t let your past failures frustrate you away from what you are doing if you know that is the right thing to do. Keep doing what you are good at, focus on it and take your eyes away from the previous setbacks you have had.

PoliticsYerima Persuades Senate To Support Underage Marriage In Nigeria by bennieman(op): 4:20pm On Jul 17, 2013
The former Zamfara State Governor and current Senator, Sani Yerima, whose marriage to a 13-year-old girl drew widespread outrage in 2009, literally pressed the Senate to reverse a vote that appeared to outlaw underage marriage, almost marring a crucial constitution amendment vote Tuesday.

The Senate constitution review committee had recommended alteration of section 29 of the constitution that deals with the manner of renunciation of citizenship.

The constitution states that full age means 18 years and above and the committee proposed a removal of part b of the clause which states that any woman that is married shall be deemed to be of full age.

Senators overwhelmingly backed the recommendation that it be removed, leaving the prospect of final passage if accepted by the House of Representatives and state Houses of Assembly.

However, Mr. Yerima questioned why the section dealing with age of a married woman was deleted, describing the move as un-Islamic.

He demanded a revisit, a call that was turned down by Senate president, David Mark.

Mr. Mark ruled that as a member of the constitution review committee, Mr. Yerima had every opportunity to have sought a review and was against the chamber’s rule in seeking an amendment while the votes were on.

Mr. Yerima insisted that under Islamic tenet, a woman is of age once married and countering that order as already stated in the constitution would be discriminatory and in violation of another section of the constitution directing the National Assembly to steer away from Islamic marriage.

“The constitution says the National Assembly shall legislate on marriage except those under Islamic rites,” said the former governor whose marriage to the teenager triggered months of controversy. “Islam says once a woman is married, she is of age.”

Mr. Mark however conceded to a second vote after other proposed amendments had been concluded, saying he had to act due to the “sensitivity” of the matter as it concerns religion.

Still, Mr. Yerima’s demand was again thrashed 60 to 35 at a repeat vote but the section could not be deleted as constitution amendments require two thirds of the entire members-73 for the Senate- for a proposal to pass.

EntertainmentBrazilian Woman Who Sold Virginity Was Scammed by bennieman(op): 7:35am On Jul 14, 2013
Remember the Brazilian woman who made headlines last October for auctioning off her virginity? Well, Catarina Migliorini now claims she was scammed by the documentary maker who set up the entire affair. And she questions whether the Japanese man "Natsu" who reportedly paid $780,000 for her virginity really exists, as she has not seen a penny.

Organized by Australian documentary maker Justin Sisely, the plan was to have Natsu and Migliorini have sex in a plane midair between Australia and the U.S. in a bid to avoid prostitution laws. The filmmaker planned to film the couple before and after the deed for a documentary called "Virgins Wanted".

The incentive for Migliorini was the money and fame, and the incentive for the Sisely was to sell his documentary like hotcakes.

"I was misled by Mr. Justin Sisely," Migliorini tells Huffington Post. "I believe he is trying to defraud me and others."

She claims that when she went to meet the 53-year-old Japanese millionaire, Natsu, in a Sydney, Australia restaurant, he didn't match the description Sisely gave her. Nor did they ever have sex.

Migliorini says Sisely was delusional in thinking he could pay for a plane for the couple to have sex because he didn't even have enough money for a car during her two months say in Sydney, reports Huffington Post.

She also charges that Sisely didn't cover her travel expenses nor give her the money promised -- specifically, 20 per cent of documentary sales and the full $780,000 auction bid.

Sisely denies her accusations and says, "We have the footage to prove otherwise," in reference to her having sex. He also says she is responsible for two breaches in contract.

The documentary will debut in October at MIPCOM, an entertainment trade fair in Cannes, France.

What are your thoughts on this bizarre set of events? Who are you more inclined to believe?

Christianity EtcRe: Why Do Some Churches Use Their Founders' Pictures On Billboards by bennieman(op): 5:12am On Jul 13, 2013
I asked a colleague of mine who happens to be a pastor this question and he told me that they put faces to the churches because some people may identify the churches better that way. He said they might have watched the pastor on the television and subsequently have a need to locate the church.

That reason sounded very ridiculous to me and i was not pacified by that lame excuse. He later agreed that he had some reservations on the issue.

Some of these posters are more ridiculous than the others. I saw one yesterday that not only contained the picture of the pastor and his pastor mrs, but also his little children‘s picture. I was tempted to upload some of them but later reconsidered so that it will not degenerate to name calling.
Christianity EtcWhy Do Some Churches Use Their Founders' Pictures On Billboards by bennieman(op): 10:34pm On Jul 12, 2013
There has been a rapid increase in the number of churches in recent times. Consequently, their posters and billboards adorn all nooks and crannies of virtually every city.

I recently came across one of them and I began to wonder the rationale behind the display of their pastors' pictures.

I want to believe that the Almighty God is the one we worship and nobody should attempt to share His glory. Given, God's picture cannot be placed on the posters but must a picture be there?

Dear people of God, what is your take on this issue?
ComputersBeware, Facebook Cloning Now The Order Of The Day by bennieman(op): 8:05pm On Jun 18, 2013
In the past, most Facebook fraudsters limited their operations to cloning the accounts of popular Nigerians to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. For instance, a Facebook search of Goodluck Jonathan would produce tens of profiles bearing the President’s photograph and his bio-data.

Just last Friday, the State Security Service paraded an ex- student of Ogwashi-Uku Polytechnic, Delta State, Mr. Philip Urieh, for allegedly cloning the Facebook account of Delta State Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan. According to the SSS, Urieh used the cloned account to defraud unsuspecting persons to the tune of over N5 million.

However, such a fraud, often perpetrated in the name of top government functionaries, politicians, Nollywood actors and actresses and other celebrities, is now applying to ordinary Nigerians.

Facebook profile cloning is a type of identity theft in which fraudsters make a second profile that looks exactly like your current one. It’s a scam that doesn’t basically require any hacking or guessing of passwords.

The scammer ‘clones’ a Facebook user’s profile, by simply copying and pasting the victim’s profile and cover pictures, contact information, education, work history and every other available information onto the duplicate profile.

These fraudsters also join and like all the Fan pages and groups the victim belongs to, with a view to making it very difficult to spot the duplicated profile as fake. As soon as the duplicate account gets the exact and same look as the victim’s real profile, these fraudsters then go through the victim’s friend’s list and send friend requests to the victim’s actual Facebook friends.

When unsuspecting friends get fooled into accepting friend requests from the cloned profile, they communicate with the fraudster, using the stolen identity. With this, they play the classic “Facebook friend in crisis’’ scam that involves pretending to urgently need money because they are in dire need.

Meanwhile, the smarter scammers, after perfecting the cloning, make attempts to block the real profile with the cloned one. The fraudsters do this by viewing the real profile with the fake account and simply clicking on “Report/block.’’ Once this is done, the victim will never be able to directly know about the existence of the fake profile.

Many prolific users of Facebook in the country say they are witnessing a surge in the cases of what many of them call “Facebook Profile cloning.’’

Our correspondent observes that many Facebook users now urge their friends and associates on the social network not to accept requests from people who appear to be posing as them online.

A Facebook user, Davidson Adejuwon, says on his Facebook wall that he “wrestled’’ to get his account from a fraudster who cloned his profile and warned his friends on the social service never to accept a friend request in his name.

He says, “Warning! warning! warning! Dear friend, please, ignore any friend request in my name on Facebook. I just wrestled my account from the hand of these unscrupulous elements with a stronger password security.

“What they are now up to is to create another Facebook account in my name, using my picture and begin to ask for friend requests as if I’m the one. Apparently, their evil intention is to use my personality to dupe innocent people. Please, do not transact any business with them. Don’t send money and recharge cards. Don’t even believe them.’’

Another Facebook user, Onikepe Oluwadamilola Owolabi, who might have also suffered in the hands of these fraudsters, says, “Please, I am not re-sending friend requests. So, please do not re-add me.’’

Editing one’s Facebook privacy settings such that only friends can see one’s posts and access basic information will go a long way in limiting the likelihood of this incident and prevent one’s friends and loved ones from falling victim to the fraudsters’ scheming. Also, steps should be taken to the extent that the privacy settings of each photo album on one’s profile is set in a way that only friends can see them. Changing your profile and cover pictures frequently may also be quite helpful.

PoliticsFamily Of Madonna University Fire Victim Speak Out by bennieman(op):
On Saturday June 8th, a room at Saint Peters boys hostel in the Okija campus of Madonna University, Anambra State, was gutted by fire, killing one student.

The family of the dead student, Chigozie Orluwehuje, (pictured above) just sent me something to publish so people can know what's happening with the case. See it below...

On the 8th of June 2013 at about 4pm the news of the fire incident got to the hearing of the mother Mrs Norra Orluwehuje and other family members by a student who happened to be a friend of Chigozie Orluwehuje, crying that the boy was one of the four that were engulfed in fire outbreak in the school hostel. The mother plus few of his relatives while on their way to school enquired of the news in the Elele campus and were directed to see one Father Francis who gave no listening ear to them according to a Rev. sister but asked us to enquire about anything in the information Centre in the school. The information center of the school openly told us that they knew nothing as at the time of the enquiry. They also refused to contact the Okija campus as to know the situation before embarking on the journey to Anambra state where the school is located.

On Sunday the 9th of June 2013 we went down to the school Madonna University Okija to ascertain what really happened. The CSO who took us to the Hostel and the boy’s room told them that the victims worked out from the hostel themselves mean while they got to the hospital and saw that they were all in coma. The CSO also confessed to us that the victims including Chigozie Orluwehuje who happened to be the hostel Rep. padlocked themselves from outside their room which was not possible because their room is in the third floor of the hostel. We interviewed some of the students who said they never would like names mentioned testified that the school authorities didn’t care about the victims and there was no first aid and to make it worst when some of the students who tried after rescue to rush them to nearby clinic was told there was no keys to open up the gate as at the point of rescue.
Up till this moment the school authority have not formally or officially informed the family of CHIGOZIE ORLUWEHUJE the death student in the fire incident, what actually happened. No remorse at all.

SportsMourinho Joining Chelsea - Perez (Real Madrid President) by bennieman(op): 6:45pm On Jun 02, 2013
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has told British Sky Sports that Jose Mourinho is returning to Chelsea.

The Portuguese coach took charge of his final Real game on Saturday as the Spanish giants beat Osasuna 4-2.

Six years after an acrimonious departure from the west Londoners following a reported fall-out with billionaire Russian owner Roman Abramovich, Mourinho has long been rumoured to be on his way back.

And Sky Sports said he had arrived in the United Kingdom, less than 24 hours following his Real swansong.

Outgoing interim boss Rafael Benitez, who has now joined Napoli, had previously hinted that Mourinho was returning and although the Portuguese has refused to say so himself, it remains one of the worst kept secrets in football.

Mourinho won two league titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups during his previous stint in charge at Stamford Bridge, in just over three seasons, while he twice guided the club to the Champions League semifinals.

In his three years at Real he won La Liga and the Spanish Cup once each while getting to the Champions League semifinals every year, but failing to reach the title game.

I have always wondered whether new ideas and breakthroughs are ever gotten from these works mostly because of their nature. Is the reasoning behind these works to get new ideas or just to practice how a research is carried out?

PoliticsGovernors Forum Election Crisis: Jang Holds Inaugural Meeting As NGF Chairman by bennieman(op): 8:27pm On May 25, 2013
The Plateau State Governor, Jonah Jang, who claimed he was the duly elected Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), has thanked his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him to serve them as the leader of NGF and pledged to work for the interest of the Forum and country.

Governor Jang made these remarks while addressing the media after an inaugural meeting of which he presided as the Chairman.

In a communiqué signed by Governor Jang and his Deputy, the Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko, they vowed to unite members of the NGF, and work for the unity of the country.

According to the communiqué, the Forum restated “its commitment to continue being a platform for peer review, productive and collaborative engagement with all levels of governments.

The Forum also resolved to continue to encourage and collaborate with President Goodluck Jonathan to restore peace and security in the country and to secure a befitting permanent secretariat outside any Governor’s Lodge and thanked all Nigerians for their support while promising not to let them down.

Addressing the media, the Deputy Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum, Gabriel Suswam said in an earlier meeting of the Forum presided over by Babangida Aliyu, they had unanimously adopted Governor Jang as the consensus Chairman and they stood by that decision.

In the same vein, the Chairman of the South-East Governors’ Forum, Peter Obi, and the Chairman of the South-South Governors’ Forum and Governor of Cross River State, Liyel Imoke also announced the decision of the Governors in their zone to support the leadership of Governor Jang.

Fielding questions from newsmen, Governor Suswam described as fraudulent the process that purportedly produced Governor Chibuike Amaechi and said even in a village council election, an out-going Chairman cannot preside over his own election.

He said it was in acceptance of the leadership of Governor Jang that 18 Governors turned up for the inaugural meeting despite the less than 12-hour notice and expressed optimism that the next meeting would bring more Governors to the fold.

In attendance at the meeting were the Governors of Plateau, Kogi, Benue, Enugu, Ebonyi, Bauchi, Abia and Ondo. Others were the Governors of Katsina, Kaduna, Delta, Anambra, Taraba, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa Gombe and Kwara States.

Two entire schools flattened in Moore, Oklahoma after 200 mph winds pulverized a 30-square-mile stretch yesterday
At least 91 people confirmed dead, authorities say, and at least another 233 injured in local hospitals
More than 20 children are among the dead, including the seven found drowned in Plaza Towers
Children were told to hold on to the walls, while teachers shielding the students with their bodies
Hundreds of homes wiped out and more than 8,000 people left without power
The devastating tornado was larger than 1999 storm in the area that left 36 people decade

A desperate search is underway for survivors after a giant two-mile wide tornado roared through the suburbs of Oklahoma leaving 91 dead, including seven children who drowned in a pool of water at their school.

Plaza Towers Elementary was in the direct path of the giant twister and today rescuers were combing the debris to find 24 students who went missing after the building took a direct hit during 45 minutes of terror yesterday afternoon.

President Barack Obama has declared a major disaster area in Oklahoma, ordering federal aid to supplement state and local efforts in Moore.

Another elementary school, homes and a hospital were among the buildings leveled by the 200mph winds leaving residents of the town of about 50,000 people stunned at the devastation and loss of life.

Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin expressed her grief on behalf of her state for the parents of the missing children, aged between five and eight, as the death toll across the Oklahoma City suburb of Moore escalated.

'Our hearts are broken for the parents that are wondering about the state of their children that had been in the schools that have been hit today,' Fallin said. 'I know that there are families wondering where their loved ones are.'

She added that rescuers were 'looking under every single piece of debris' for the missing.

CelebritiesAngelina Jolie Undergoes Double Mastectomy by bennieman(op): 11:41am On May 14, 2013
Actress Angelina Jolie announced in a New York Times op-ed article on Tuesday that she underwent a preventive double mastectomy after learning she carries a mutation of the BRCA1 gene, which sharply increases her risk of developing breast cancer and ovarian cancer.

"My doctors estimated that I had an 87 percent risk of breast cancer and a 50 percent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman," Jolie wrote. "Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimize the risk as much I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy."

Jolie's mother, actress and producer Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian cancer in 2007 at the age of 56. Jolie is 37 years old.

In the Times op-ed, titled "My Medical Choice," Jolie said she finished three months of medical procedures at the Pink Lotus Breast Center in California on April 27 that included the mastectomies and reconstruction.

A mastectomy is an operation that removes all or part of the breast.

"I wanted to write this to tell other women that the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy. But it is one I am very happy that I made," Jolie wrote. "My chances of developing breast cancer have dropped from 87 percent to under 5 percent."

BRCA stands for breast cancer susceptibility genes -- a class of genes known as tumor suppressors, according to the National Cancer Institute.

Mutation of the BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes has been linked to hereditary breast and ovarian cancer. A blood test can determine if a woman is "highly susceptible" to the cancers.

Oscar-winning film star

Jolie may be best known for title role in the "Laura Croft" series of films, but also won an Academy Award as best supporting actress in "Girl, Interrupted." She also received a Golden Globe Award and SAG Award for the same role.

Jolie serves as a special envoy for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and has visited refugee camps around the world.

The actress has been in a relationship with actor Brad Pitt since the mid 2000s and they are engaged. The couple has three biological and three adopted children.

In telling her story, Jolie acknowledged that surgery might not be the right choice for every woman.

"For any woman reading this, I hope it helps you to know you have options," Jolie wrote. "I want to encourage every woman, especially if you have a family history of breast or ovarian cancer, to seek out the information and medical experts who can help you through this aspect of your life, and to make your own informed choices."

But for Jolie, the decision ultimately came down to her kids.

"I can tell my children that they don't need to fear they will lose me to breast cancer," she said.

It's a pain Jolie knows all too well from losing her mother to the disease.

Although Fergie is leaving a good team behind, his personal input has been key over the years. I foresee a considerable decline in Utd's competitive edge overtime. Only time will tell...

The fulanis are very troublesome people. I was on my way to Abuja but I had to return due to the blockade. I guess the Tivs are trying to get the attention of the government through the protest. It was horrifying but thank God I left safely.
